Different Worlds

Rate this book
Natasha Seychelle, heiress to the vast Seychelle Enterprise, has been on a crumbling road ever since losing her mother. Losing her friends, falling away from her work responsibilities, and sinking deeper into depression, rumors are she won’t be able to succeed the company at the end of the summer.
Annelise Benson just lost her kitchen job and is in freefall. With rent looming and college tuition still to save for, she’s desperate enough to take a sketchy job offering more money than should be possible. But the summer caretaker position she signs up for gets tricky when it turns out she’s a tool used to try shaming Natasha Seychelle herself into reforming.
The two come from vastly different worlds and clash in an ugly meeting that sets them head to head. Annelise’s dedication to completing a job is too strong for Natasha to shake her off, but—maybe, just maybe, they’ve come together for a reason.

Different Worlds is a 100k enemies-to-lovers slow burn romance featuring a class difference romance, themes of grief and loss, comfort and healing, and lots of sentimental emotional fluff. Content warnings for depression, loss of family, references to self-harm, and one really nasty uncle. Oh, and sapphic flirting. Don’t read this book if you hate seeing girls flirting with each other. Definitely not.

This book should be called 'with friends like these, who needs enemies?' seriously what shitty, shitty friends these people have.

Despite that angst, I really did enjoy the romance aspect. Both MCs are dealing with the death of their respective mother's as well as depression and unsurety of lifes direction and purpose for each of them, feeling trapped in the class systems they were born.

I liked that these two lovers were able to bring out the best in eachother, and shrug off the oppressive expectations of others. I do however wish that involved getting rid of their selfish manipulative friends and work mates. I could not understand for the life of me why they would accept such behaviour and treatment as fine enough to allow them to still be considered best friends and important colleagues three years later in the epilogue!

Natasha was literally depressed and drowning in her grief after her mother died just 3 months ago, as all her friends and colleagues (who want her to take over the family business) just tell her to get over it, and try harder and say things like 'your mother would be disappointed in you!'.

Only the new employee Annelise gives her any form of compassion, comfort and understanding, to offer a different perspective.
Annelise is also depressed about her lack of direction in life, but finds purpose in helping Natasha. And love.

But her best friend is a manipulative wench. Who soon utilises the relationship to her own benefit, (including selling her texts and photo of her love interest) - as does other employees who try to split them up and taint the relationship with doubts, and all around sabotage the couple to meet their own selfish greedy ends.

The fact that all this is forgiven in the end astounds me. So it's up to others to decide if they would want to give this one a go.

4 stars - fantasy romance - check your brain at the door - super enjoyable read

In order to enjoy this book, you just need to go with it. Don't think to hard, just accept that:
-the CEO of a multi-million dollar company would advertise for a caretaker via a flyer on a college campus
-that a depressed 20-something is being pushed to take over the company when she is clearly not in the right mental state to do so
-that a broke college kid is basically good/expert at everything she touches from cooking to event management to investor dinner chat. To know her is to love her.

Trust me, just nod and say, "Yep, makes sense!" BECAUSE this book is hella fun and omg does it get lovey-dovey when the two the leads get together, esp at the very end. If you like a lot of over the top declarations of love, this is the book for you.

This book hit me just right to ignore stuff that might otherwise really bug me. I dunno what to tell you, I just really enjoyed the story and loved the epilogue.

Another gem of a book from my TBR shelves! Lily takes you into the world of a depressed heiress and the woman hired to take care of her. Natasha's mother started the cosmetic company and she passed suddenly. Natasha doesn't know what to do because of her depression. She's super to succeed the company. So her uncle hires Annalise, a college student with kitchen/ events experience to help her and other events around the house. She would be paid $30,000 for 3 months work.
What the uncle didn't count on was the two young women getting close.
This is a beautiful rich girl/poor girl slow burn, HOT love story! I LOVE THIS BOOK! 5 stars!!

A desperate job search leads to a job that challenges, comes with self discoveries and a love never imagined deserving.
This was a time well spent with the characters and their revelations. It was also a story that deserves some reflections....there some wise sections here.
On a little downside for me are some of the cheesy lines....some made my eyes roll back. Nevertheless, I sincerely enjoyed myself.

I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.

Lily has done it again! Another amazing book. I particularly liked the ending of this one, it finished on a strong note!

Different Worlds tells the story of Annelise and Natasha, who come from different financial worlds. Natasha is a millionaire heiress to a beauty empire and Annelise has just been laid off from her waitressing job and desperately needs money for rent.

In her hunt for her next job Annelise stumbles upon a caretaker ad, put in place by Natasha's uncle, and she gets the job.

Natasha's uncle is a horrible person. Her mother died 3 months prior to the book beginning and Natasha is in a deep depression, yet her uncle keeps forcing her to do events and whatnot, trying and failing to ready her for her succession of the company. Hence the 'caretaking' job.

I think this book handles depression well. It doesn't shy away from the emptiness at all, and we see Natasha grieve and grow organically. Annelise is a large part of Natasha's healing process, as she also lost her mother and is the first person to show Natasha that what she's feeling is okay. She's allowed to grieve.

This is enemies to lovers, one of my favourite tropes, as Annelise and Natasha get off on the wrong foot. They soon start dancing around each other though, which was also fun to read.

The side characters in Different Worlds are a strong part of the book too. All of them felt fleshed out and fully realised. I particularly liked Imra and Zara.

So yeah! 5 stars!

Lily Seabrooke has done it again.

In her newest novel, Different Worlds, Seabrooke has brought together a romance that’s both exciting and endlessly comforting, with a collection of deep and multi-faceted characters that really pulls the entire story together.

We begin with Annelise, a (perhaps too) hardworking young woman trying to find her place in a world of costly tuition prices and rent requirements. She is willing to take on any hurdle if it means keeping herself going to her next goal. This includes answering an add for a summer caretaker position that turns out to be a manipulative play by the current head of the Seychelle family to shame his niece into picking herself up by her bootstraps.

That niece is Natasha Seychelle, whose mother died only a few months before. As heir to the Seychelle Cosmetics Co., she is expected to move on far sooner than she’s ready to (let’s be honest, far sooner than anyone should be expected to). Her Uncle has no patience for her and her few friends see, to be unable to help. Struggling to cope with the loss and trying to keep going, Annelise presents a serious stumbling block as she represents the way Natasha’s Uncle feels about her: that she’s being a child and needs to be treated as such.

You can see how Annelise and Natasha might not get along, yes?

What follows is an up and down journey traversing such topics as grief, romance, and the confidence in oneself and others. We get to see Annelise and Natasha slowly open up, not only to each other but to the reader. Their vulnerabilities and flaws are revealed to make them the same as everyone else: human. Most of all, we get to see how they grow together, in a heartwarming and sometimes heart-breakingly honest portrayal of the challenges that occur in different social and economic spheres of life.

I feel like what really makes this book, aside from the romance of course, is the collection of side characters. So many of the characters really show the struggles that both Natasha and Annelise face. Alex, a sort of encouraging influence in Natasha’s life who also deals with his own frustration and stresses. Rachel, Annelise’s best friend, who frequently makes poor choices and hates herself for them. Zara, Irma… the list goes on and on. They all seem like real people and add a depth to the story that makes it all the easier to lose yourself in.

Overall, I completely and utterly loved Different Worlds. It’s the kind of book that gives you a warm glow, that (I think, at least) should be read amidst comforting music, a glass of wine, and a heart willing to fall in love with Seabrooke’s writing all over again.

This book was really as gorgeous as the cover. It managed to be escapist and realistic at the same time: Annelise gets swept up in Natasha's glamorous world, but the story never forgets the real things she's struggling with and how hard poverty is to escape. Natasha's grief about losing her mother is also beautifully depicted. Annelise is the only person who notices her struggle and helps her come out of it through her sympathy.

And even as these characters are dealing with these complicated issues, their love story is so tender and romantic. They start off on the wrong foot, but the moment Annelise realizes what's really going on with Natasha, she melts, and they quickly become each other's refuge. They get to share soft moments like a spur of the moment trip to Paris, but they also help each other deal with their problems and become stronger people. You really can't miss this one.

Not my first and definitely not my last Lily Seabrooke's book.
The cover could make you thing about this book that it's a fantasy. Not at all.
I'm really fond of this kind of trope, the rich girl and her assistant getting off on the wrong foot but time and discussions make things so much better.
I loved the story and the writing. The characters are great and well developed.
Oh and the ending is perfect too
I highly recommend this book!

Breathtaking

Definitely a gripping book! It’s intense, emotional... Dazzling! If you aren’t in a hurry and you want to feel all the feelings this is the book you need to read! This is my first book from Lily and for sure it won’t be the last one! A beautiful love story with a delightful chemistry not only between the leads but also all the characters involved.

Nice care-taker romance with a decent supporting cast. The build-up in the relationship does take some time as befitting a slow-burn story. That said, the jump to girlfriends happens suddenly and is a little jarring. Towards the end the story arc wanders into extreme melodrama as things fly off the rails in several directions. With the help of some hand waving all is put right by the end and the main characters have their HEA.

Lily is back with another book! And this one really touches on a lot of different issues.

Different Worlds follows Annelise, a struggling college student who's just been laid off from her waitressing job, and Natasha, the heiress to a billion dollar beauty company. The two are from vastly different sides of the poverty line. Different Worlds.

Natasha is supposed to succeed the company from her awful uncle at the end of the summer, but only three months since the death of her mother, Natasha's depression is at its lowest. Her uncle, who has been pushing Natasha to attend events and meetings despite struggling with her grief, posts an ad for a "caretaker," offering thousands for the summer months leading up to the succession.

After Annelise applies and is hired for the job, the two get off to a rocky start. But despite how much Natasha wants everyone in her life to think she's okay, she needs someone like Annelise. And Annelise just might need someone like Natasha, too.

This book did a great job of tackling some big issues in a good way. Lily didn't hide how ugly depression could be, and she made it clear that depression is just as difficult as any physical illness, and grieving is a process that takes time. Reading as these two figured out how much they had in common, growing from it, helping one another, made this story heartwarming.

If you're looking for a good enemies to lovers story, this one is for you!

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Lily Seabrooke is such an incredible writer, and this is such an incredible book.

Different Worlds is about two characters from very different worlds - Annelise, a woman who works hard to make ends meet, and Natasha, heiress to a cosmetics company who's struggling with the loss of her mother.

They meet when Natasha's (downright horrible) uncle hires Annelise to assist and care for Natasha before she takes over the company, and what is initially a frosty working relationship melts into a loving romance.

The development of Natasha and Annelise's relationship is fantastic, and as usual, Lily Seabrooke shows that she's such a talented romance writer.

The book also deals with topics such as grief and purpose in a careful and impactful way, and I finished reading it with my heart a lot lighter, and more full, then it was when I started.

It's not a light read at times, but it earns every emotional moment and weighs up these moments with many wonderfully light-hearted and comedic ones. It is also so well-paced that you can race through it.

With a stellar cast of characters to boot, I think it's Lily Seabrooke's best book yet.

This was a lovely quirky story that keeps you glued to the screen to see what happens next. The premise is Annelise needs to find money for college , she has been runnng herself ragged and finds an flyer at college about a caretaker job For 10,000 a month. It turns out that no one else applied because they thought it was a scam. She finally meets Natasha who is having an breakdown because she is supposed to takeover the company her mother founded. She is miserable to everyone and is falling apart. Slowly more than a friendship builds between the two women and Annelise and Natasha realise they need and want each other. Throw in a few plot twists that keeps you wanting to yell at the characters to do something less destructive. It is hard to love someone different than an yourself . This is a book that keeps you glued tot he screen or page to see what happens next. Spoiler alert there's an HEA but it's a romance novel

I just finished reading an advanced review copy of this novel, and it put a big smile on my face. A natural storyteller, Lily Seabrooke writes with a refreshing voice that was a pure pleasure for me to read. This enemies-to-lovers tale is narrated with delicious prose and contains a cast of three-dimensional characters. It's a delightful escape into a lavish world of fashion, parties, and travel, but more than that, it's a really sweet romance.

I appreciated the book's side theme of recovery from grief and the transformative power of love and understanding. I also liked the fact that the main characters not only have a physical attraction to one another, but also develop a deep, emotional connection that takes their relationship to a deeper level. I look forward to reading more of Seabrooke's works. She is a gem of an author within the lesfic genre!

Once again Lily has knocked it out of the park. The book has a fairly heavy start to it. Losing a parent isn't something I've experienced but I now know what emotions to expect. The whole book is filled with emotive writing, wonderfully written and so easy to believe. Natasha's pain leaked out of the pages making her likeable from the start despite her awful attitude. Good supporting cast to go besides the two MC's who were so right for each other you couldn't help but wonder why it took them so long to see it.

Beautifully written romance with depth from Ms. Seabrooke with leads Natasha (millionaire beauty empire heiress) and Annelise (laid-off waitress) plus supporting characters that add weight to the storyline. The author intertwines the sensitive subjects of grief and depression with deep emotions, some humour and slow romance. Hooked from inception, I read through the night to the end. Highly recommend as a very worthy read with 5 stars.

Lily Seabrooke mastered the slow burn in Different Worlds. In addition to a well-crafted and fun storyline that drew me in from the first pages, she’s managed to create palpable tension and excitement throughout. With artful writing, she had me racing through the pages, hungry for more. I loved the characters, as well as the incredible character development. Would read again, and will certainly be looking for more titles from Lily in the future.

I loved it than by the end i just liked it.

The book gives me mixed emotions. Its a nice read, emotional but not to the point. Things were happening i started to like them but did not reached where they should be.
There were few moments in this book i loved, so due to those i will remember this book for a long time. The enemy to lover transition was good, but i have not read many enemy to lovers book so not an expert.
Romance was good but the conversation between both main characters felt too plastic to me. It was not like a real ones.

I really liked it! I was of course drawn by the enemies to lovers thing, which I'm a huge sucker for. It wasn't quite as antagonistic as I would've liked, but I kept on turning the pages nevertheless. It was very enjoyable. The twist at the end surprised me, I did not see that coming and I'm very glad it came! That was a very important lesson, not only for Anneliese, but the reader too. I am, (un?)fortunately not as selfless, but I still felt touched by the message.

The first half to two thirds of this book were amazing I found. The rich/poor and slightly unbelievable elements of the story are such common ingredients I would think that I'm fatigued with the tropes but the early interplay between Natasha and Annelise is so incredibly well done and heavy. It suckered me in so bad I could overlook anything else in the book.

The latter points of the book fell a bit flat for me but it remains overall, a great read.

Well developed

This was a well developed story with great characters and told from the viewpoint of the main characters. The depression of one of the characters is heavy and told from her viewpoint. It is described well without messing with the readers mood. I found how both women reacted to their similar losses to be a good counterpoint in how a wealthy person can react versus one who has vey little choices in life.
All around I found it to be an engaging god length read.

Honestly, the chemistry between Natasha and Annelise was so nice to see. The power dynamic was even, even though it seems like Natasha would have the upper hand, right? The intimate scenes were amazing to read, Lily really knows how to capture the vulnerable moments between people.

Highly recommend!

Great read

This a fresh take on the enemies to lovers theme with an honest look at how grief can twist a person up. I enjoyed the supporting characters as much as the Mains. There were also some very funny moments. This book hits all the "feel points" & is definitely worth the read.

I loved this story

I don’t really know what I expected with the story, but it was really a lot deeper than I could have imagined. I was happy with how sweet the story was, but really glad it didn’t just continue on the east path till the end. I was constantly waiting for the shoe to drop, and though it was brief, it was really nice that it showed us more about other characters.

I did enjoy the story. Not really too heavy, understandable differences and grief process. A bit on the fairy tale side but one needs to read a lighter story now and then.
