Nicola Casimir has a talent for finding trouble, or rather, it finds her. Six months after most of downtown Austin was leveled, her new case with the sexy federal agent assigned as her handler pits her back up against the shadowy forces that almost killed her.
There's no hiding the sparks between them as they navigate their evolving relationship. Old adversaries become new allies. New enemies are unimaginably powerful, and both of them will learn that nothing burns as hot as someone who has nothing to lose.
S.M. Butler is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of romantic suspense and military romance who has a penchant for Dr. Pepper, ice hockey, and fully admits her addiction to creative journaling and art supplies. She lives in Texas under a not-so-secret identity with two teenaged monsters, writing books, and planning the next step in her evil plans for world domination into the twilight hours of the night because that’s when it’s quiet in the house. She loves to hear from readers.
Our heroine has barely recovered from her last case when she needs to go in the field again. Our hero will do everything he can to help her, but it is going to be an uphill struggle.
This is book two of the series, but it works pretty well as a standalone. The essentials are covered early on.
This is a romantic suspense story with an urban fantasy twist. There is a lot of action and mystery which draws our couple together in exciting and steamy ways. The story is well written and easy to read with an excellent, well developed cast of characters. I really like both our hero and heroine who are both smart and flawed at the same time. It helps that they also have really good chemistry and work together well when things fall apart. The plot is fast paced and has plenty of surprises to keep you guessing and turning pages. Overall, an excellent read and I look forward to going back and starting from the beginning.
Highly recommended.

Agent Alexander Harrison was ruthless but he was going to protect Nicola Casimir who almost died with what they did to her. She had to heal. But they were giving him only 6 months. He needed answers and all he got were lies. There was no denying what was happening between them. Would he find the answers in time to protect her? Because now she was going up against the forces that almost killed her the last time. And her new enemies are extremely powerful. Does she risk her very survival this time?
This was a great book to curl up with, this is the first one I have read but I will be checking out the rest of this author's books. I was sucked right into this book and could not wait to see what happened next; I would definitely recommend it I did not want to stop reading.
