Fact 752 - If it's male, it lies.

I knew better than to fall for the bad guy. Love only gives you heartache, and in my case? It got me poisoned. Literally. Tough break, right? It gets worse.

The Elven government "said" it was only one task, but I should have read the fine print. That teensy job? Taking out the biggest baddie our worlds have ever seen. Spying for the enemy wasn't the plan, but every attempt
to escape only entrenches me deeper into a criminal war I never wanted to be part of.

Good thing my mama taught me how to fight dirty. I will play their game, and do the one thing they didn't think possible. I'll win.

Fact 521 - Vengeance doesn't have wings. She wears stilettos.

Not quite as good as the first ‘book’ (3 novellas really) but still super enjoyable. A couple of plot holes that I couldn’t ignore and a feeling like the storyline had been changed a couple of times leaves me at a solid 4 star.

A bit more plot driven than the first and less character development. I wish I could have seen more... gone deeper, especially into the characters other than Allie... it was implied that they had a full story and motivations but I just wasn’t totally convinced... a few threads left dangling but still a satisfying end... mostly.

Worth the read given the writing style and aim of the book; it was fun, quick and after all the “no, what?! Him? No!” It left me smiling with a warm fuzzy feeling... just what the doctor ordered.

A HEA that shouldn’t be

The romance in this story was highly problematic for me, as were elements of the plot. First, the male lead lies (major lies) to the heroine, and blackmails her with lies and threats to her friends in order to force her to work for his organization and put herself in an incredibly dangerous situation that almost gets her killed and gives her PTSD. But she just…gets over it. We never hear an apology or even a really good excuse for everything he did to mess with her mind and ruin her life (other than “the greater good”) and he’s only sorry at all because she’s supposed to be his mate. And she just…gets over it. She doesn’t want to hold a grudge, essentially. So instead of being angry at and avoiding this man who manipulated her and caused truly horrible things to happen to her, she just decides to let it go and be his mate, after he does nothing to make up for it except eventually rescuing her from the situation he put her in. It’s unbelievable.

There are other equally implausible elements to the plot itself, like why a girl from a moonshine making family is so important to a psychotic intergalactic despot, and the threat of rape hanging over the heroine’s head for weeks that doesn’t actually manifest for nebulous reasons that really boil down to the author wanting to keep the book G-rated. The steamiest it gets is a kiss. Apparently, in this universe no one has sex (or anything beyond kissing) before marriage (mating). A willingness to have premarital sex is how you know someone is a bad person. (Apparently lying and coercing someone into a life threatening and traumatic situation doesn’t preclude being a “gentleman.”)

Bottom line, I found the story more and more implausible (in its plot twists and developments) as it went on and I have no idea how either the heroine or the reader is just supposed to forgive the male lead (with no satisfying explanation or remorse) to allow for a satisfying HEA.

Well I'm as conflicted about this book as I was with the first book, Pirates, Princes and Payback. Amazon lists the series as "Aliens and Alchemists" which is where I downloaded my copies from. However on Goodreads the series is listed as "Mixologists and Pirates" 1-3 or 4-6 depending on which book you are reading, book 1 or 2. I find the differences between both sites incredibly misleading. You have to read Alphas, Airships, and Assassins in order to know how book one ends. I hate to even call it book one, this series really should have been formatted and edited in such a way that it was released as 1 novel, not this 6 mini story parading as a duet mashup.

Having said all that I found the story to be enjoyable. Even though I continued to dislike the FMC. I couldn't pin her down. At times she was incredibly intelligent and then at other times she was spouting Southern sayings and theorizing at how her mom would "smack her on the butt" for certain behavior. I guess she was this weird mix of book smart but immature? I don't know the best way to describe her other than tiresome. There are only so many times I can read about how her family would be ashamed of her and her behavior for not having perfect manners, even while she is constantly abused and betrayed by the people closest to her. Seriously? She isn't allowed to be upset and rail against her betrayers? We at least get a conclusion to her story with this book and I liked the epilogue.

I've got some major awwwwws happening right now! My oh my! How I've loved Allie and Blade and this Av world that she's been abducted into. This conclusion was filled with twists and some major surprises. I absolutely have enjoy this unputdownable series and I'm hoping for more!

Everything about Allie has drawn me in! From her southern sayings and charm to her clumsy ways and good hearted notions. Seeing this alien world through her eyes has really been an adventure.

The supporting characters have been so entertaining and frightening and highly intriguing! I liked the brothers because they all had such varying personalities and watching their dynamic with Allie was loads of fun. Jer was intriguing too! Their bestie bond was genuine. Blade was all alpha male and confusing and rocked the broody tude pretty perfectly. What wasn't to love about these characters!?

I'd happily go back to this world for more epic adventures! The way in which Frost Kay expresses her character's thoughts is spectacularly addictive and charming. Who knew space pirates could be just so captivating!?

A fine follow up to the first book.

The book picks up in the middle of a scene that cut off at the end of the last book. It’s not seamless, more like the author wrote the entire thing but didn’t know where to cut it into two books so she just picked a line. The first few chapters she’s dealing with the fall out and emotional turmoil of what happens in the beginning, it was very well written and seemed like the author was taking a better approach but then it just abruptly stopped like the author switched. Everyone in her life lies to her constantly, all the way to the end of the story and she just forgives them. There’s no real romance story between her and the romantic lead.
Overall it’s a quick, fun read that is entertaining and good for what it is. Fairly well written, with only a couple editing errors.

Ok so Allie is traumatized by her mission and finds herself in deeper as she is now being blackmailed by the person her original blackmailers were having her spy on.

I did not care for this one as much, even though it was still kinda fun. Honestly the issue I had was all of the lying. Every single person Allie has come into contact with has lied to her. And none of them told the truth until they got caught, that's not people who are your friends. Allie just forgave them so quickly...and most of them were still lying! So the love story didn't really work for me because of that so it just kinda brought it down a notch for me.

Loved this book!

I love this world that Frost May built. I couldn't put this book down. Allie is such an awesome, fun character. I am so glad the team was able to save Allie. I was surprised to find out who Slovan is to the triplets. I would recommend this book/series to everyone. Such as fast paced great story. Can't wait to read more books by Frost Kay!

Great series.

I do not normally read future or alien anything, but I had read a couple other Frost Kay series and loved them so much that I thought I would give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised to find this series was just as good as the others! Allie Sai was a very interesting and quirky character.

I think I enjoyed the first one more, but that doesn't mean that I didn't have fun with this one too. I really liked the ending, but the middle wasn't my favorite, which is why it's getting this rating. Overall I enjoyed it, and I would consider getting another amazon kindle subscription just to binge more of this author’s books.

Great series. I felt like it had so much potential and fell a little flat. There were questions that were never fully answered for me. Also- the worldbuilding was lacking for me, she did a great job with the aliens but I could barely picture their planet, their home, etc...

Spies, lies, and the guys

I kind of feel bad for Allie because so many people have been keeping secrets from her. There was a lot of action which gave the story a fast pace. It feels like there could be more to come even though Lore's story has a conclusion.

I want more I started the 1st book when I should have gone to sleep and stayed up to read #2

I good mix of light syfy and romance. A nice jump into a universe of multiple species of aliens. Plenty of room to grow the series and I genuinely hope its continued.

This was fun!

I was pleasantly surprised that this was an interesting read and fun as well. There is darkness/violence but much more to the story. The alien world and people are interesting and I would definitely read more in this world or with these characters.

I enjoyed this book. Even though the heroine experienced some unpleasant things, I still found it to be a fun read. This is the second series by Frost Kay that I have read and enjoyed and I'll be checking out her others,

Funny sci-fi a rarity

I really enjoyed this book I look forward to reading the sequel. Me and my siblings really thought this book was funny. This story has a unique story line though I can recognize some crossover from other series. (I liked it even better then the tainted)

I had read the separate volumes and finished with this one. I would like to see more of the characters and don't always need a universal "big bad guy".

Not Bad

Fun fast fantasy. Fun read and as a local Southerner, refreshing to see a lady hold herself to high standards despite surrounding circumstances and culture.

The continuation of the fun read. Not a deep or serious read, but a bit of a lot of things: space elves, fated mates, and a southern belle.
Oh, and moonshine.

Disappointing.
I like this author but as with her other books the romance is dragged out to not give you any real satisfaction from it.
