On her birthday, as Kiki Kittie is making her wish, a pile of fashion magazines tumble on her head and voila! Fashion Kitty is born. As such, she helps other kittens with their wardrobe dilemmas and with their interactions with their peers. The story, though seemingly simplistic, touches upon a variety of themes including bullying, self-esteem, and family relationships. Fashion Kitty is a sassy, smart animal who, though concerned with haute couture, still has substance. Primarily illustrated through a variety of pinks and grays in a cartoon style, the pictures are artistically appealing and visually spectacular.
Fashion Kitty is a graphic novel about a cat with fashion-crime solving powers. She helps her friend, Mary Jane, to avoid a fashion faux pas by matching perfect outfits for her, and helps her to get revenge on the popular girl in school who tried to make her wear a silly outfit. In the end, the popular girl gets teased and Mary Jane comes to her aid, showing how kindness is always the best way to act, even if someone has been mean to you. This graphic novel is very “girly.” The illustrations are all in pink, black and grey, it’s about fashion, it portrays the girl bullying that sometimes occurs in schools, and it even has an interactive outfit matching section in the middle. I never have read graphic novels, because I always thought they were for boys. This book can be a good way to open up a young girl to this genre. A criticism I have of this book is that it over-explains everything that happens. While sometimes it does so in ways that are cute and funny, I think it would better serve kids if there were more action, because the majority of the book is explaining things about Fashion Kitty. At the same time, this explanation does allow the reader to be exposed to a lot of concepts they may have never thought about or words they haven’t heard of. Another criticism is that I also think it comes very close to crossing the line when Fashion Kitty chooses revenge and being mean to the other girl, instead of just helping Mary Jane. But in the end, Mary Jane chooses to be nice. All in all, I thought this was a cute and clever book. It has positive messages about being unique and about treating others kindly, and it is very fun to read. I would recommend it to any elementary aged child, or even middle school, as a fun book and a way to explore the graphic novel genre.
Kiki Kitty is just her normal, fashionable, kitty self...until one day an unexplainable event occurs and she is given fashion super powers! Fashion Kitty is born, with the abilities to to help little kitties everywhere with their fashion crises.
Fun, silly, and girly, Fashion Kitty is a quick read with lots of appeal. The pictures are adorable. The storyline is very simple and pretty wacky/a bit nonsensical...kind of like something a kid would make up. I could see this inspiring kids to make their own comics, it's got such a home-made, improvised feel to it. There's a sweet message to the story, too - Fashion Kitty helps a nice kitty who is about to be tricked by a mean kitty into making a major fashion faux pas. Nice Kitty is saved (and gets a major confidence/fashion boost!), Mean Kitty is taught a lesson, and everyone is friends in the end.
These books are pretty popular at my library - in fact, anything by Cherise Mericle Harper does very well. I think her adorable picture book, Pink Me Up, might have been our highest circulating item this year. Anyone who likes girly and quirky will appreciate this author, including her Fashion Kitty series.
Fashion Kitty is about a cat family with a mouse for a pet. On Kiki's birthday, a disaster happens with her birthday cake, the candles, and a shelf of fashion magazines falling on her head as she was blowing out the candles. Because of this, Kiki turned into the Fashion Kitty, where she had a secret costume to disguise her looks and could fly. She flew to a classmates house to help her decide what to wear to school, and even played a mean trick on the most popular and rude girl in school.
This book was written in comic book style, so that made it fun to read. The plot was good, but a lot of unneeded information was given at the beginning, and seem to ramble on and on about the kitty families pet mouse, which ended up having nothing to do with the story line. I do understand that this particular book was the first in a long series so I suppose the author was setting the audience up with background information, but I do not think it flowed very well. I do however see young girls being very interested in this story line and type of writing style.
Fashion Kitty by Charise Harper is a fun graphic novel for children. It reassures children that being unusual and different from everyone else is not a bad thing. It teaches children to accept people for who they are and to be kind to them. I loved how this book related to the Cinderella story-line with the evil step sisters and step-mother since Kiki's life was ruined when her father decided to remarry and move the family to the other side of the country. I think many students could relate to how Kiki felt. This story could give many students hope about new parents, families, changes, and more. The illustrations for the novel matched the story-line. The colors used were different making Fashion Kitty stand out. The images also were entertaining and kept my attention throughout the book. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to children between ages six through nine. It is also a good book to use for children who learning to transition from picture books to chapter books.
1. 4th-6th grade 2. This book is about a fashionable kitty cat that happens to get superpowers for her birthday. Those superpowers consists of her being able to mix and match hundreds of outfits in a single second. She uses those powers to help out her friends and peers who are having fashion emergencies. 3. I think students would like reading this book if they have an eye for fashion or superhero books. This book is adorable but also really cool. I like how long it is and the different style of outfits they show in it. 4. Since this book is more directed toward girls, I can't imagine making a lesson out of it. I would definitely have it on my bookshelves for people who are interested in fashion and superheroes.
THE WAY THIS SUDDENLY APPEARED IN MY HEAD DURING MY LATEST WEATHER-FUELLED FUNK. WE HAVE GOT TO STOP MEETING LIKE THIS. ANYWAY I BORROWED THIS SEVERAL TIMES FROM THE LIBRARY BECAUSE ITS ABOUT A FREAKING FASHION-THEMED CAT SUPERHERO
The summery they have for this book is not correct. This is about a kitty who loves to combine all sorts of patterns and colors to make great outfits. She hits her head and becomes a fashion super hero. Find out more of what happened by reading this super fun book!
It was an OK book for me. It cracked me up when fashion kitty's sister Lana wore her underwear on the outside of her tights!
Jody recommends this book for Piper but she says not to tell piper because she wants to find it for her birthday.
It was a fast read. I read it during my hour quiet time. Lots of pictures and reads like a comic book.
"Fashion Kitty" by Charise Mercile Harper is a story of a Kitty who gets into fashion after a pile of fashion magazines fall on her head on her birthday. She kicks it up and notch and becomes a fashion hero! I enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it to young girls. Girls love fashion, and so they can really relate to and enjoy this book. The story had great humor in it which definitely enhances the enjoyment of the story. As a teacher, I'm not sure I would read this aloud to my class, since it is mainly a book for girls, however, I would definitely introduce it to my ladies and encourage them to get a good read with it.
Ah, this was so much better than Babymouse! While they both have similar girlie audiences and hype up the pink, Fashion Kitty is surprisingly not so materialistic, whiney, and self-centered. As the back of the novel points out, she has a (mostly) good heart. The first volume also seems more about dressing to look good than fashion and has some great funny moments.
Fashion Kitty By Mericle Harper No awards Grades: 3rd- 4th Summary: Kiki is a slightly odd cat with a great sense of fashion. On her birthday, she discovered she has fashion powers. She now can, mix and match hundreds of outfits in a single second. Kiki helps other cats by preventing them from making fashion mistakes. Review: This book is so cute! It definitely is geared more towards girls but it can be argued that it can get girls into graphic novels. Activities in the classroom: Go over the color wheel in more detail. Talk about complementary and contrastic colors. Have the student create a color scheme with 4 or 5 colors and have them all match. Have the students label every article of clothing on each other (Encourage them to include fabric type, colors, fasteners, and any other details) Have the students design their own superheroes in a writer’s workshop
Fashion Kitty is an exciting tale of a cat who becomes a superhero. She saves the day by helping other young cats with their fashion emergencies and day to day struggles they may face. The story also brings in important topics to be addressed with elementary age kids, like bullying and self- acceptance. With such an adorable concept and unique approach towards teaching necessary lessons, it's no wonder that Fashion Kitty is so entertaining and popular for elementary school students. The colorful and interesting illustrations throughout the graphic novel really assist in telling the story and make it even more intriguing for young readers. I think this story would work best for independent reading activities with students in grades 2 to 5.
This book, Fashion Kitty, is very girly filled with tons of fashion and pink. It is weird to me because it is mainly about being made fun because of what you wear, which I don't feel is a huge issue and young kids wouldn't really care much about it. This book is supposed to be about self-esteem, but Kiki seeks out those who don't dress the way she does, and helps them to be more stylish. This is sending the message to kids that they are not free to express their own dress style. Kiki also uses tons of pink and suggests all her friends she is helping out should wear pink as well. The message is just confusing to me. Overall, I enjoyed the illustrations and how they appeal to children.
This book is about a cat named Kiki who while blowing out her candles on her birthday, is hit with fashion magazines. She turns into Fashion Kitty and he faced with helping rescue and save other kitties who are in a fashion disaster. I loved how this book was set up because the inside was filled with a pink color scheme. All of the illustrations were pink and colored with different shades of pink. It is also set up like a comic book scheme where there are speech bubbles. I love that each page can be a different layout which makes if fun for the reader so every page isn't the same. This would be a great book for young readers who are interested in fashion and superheroes.
This book is a fun and engaging graphic novel perfect for young readers who love fashion and superheroes. The illustrations are full of energy and movement, in a cartoon, all-over-the-page style, making them easy to follow and engaging for young readers. The graphic novel format allows for an engaging reading experience, with the use of panels and layouts to pace the story and build tension. Overall, "Fashion Kitty" is a delightful book that will entertain young readers and leave them wanting more. I recommend it to children between the ages of 7 and 10 who are just starting to explore graphic novels.
Fashion Kitty is a graphic novel about a cat that has a good fashion sense. The cat has crime solving abilities that of course are fashion. She goes to help her friend who is having a fashion crisis. She gets her friend Mary Jane together with a now matching outfit. This book is great for children to read because it expresses that it is okay to be yourself. This is something I believe all children need to read. It is a fun read for the ages 8-12, or anyone who loves a good fashion book.
