It pains me to give this author this rating but I LOATHED the heroine
She was a selfish person who only thought about herself even when the choices she made affected Nixon and their baby. I can’t understand how being a professional in mental health, she reacted so badly (SPOILER ALTER) when she got the position in Brazil after Nixon told her what happened to him. She was so obsessed with her ‘freedom’ that she didn’t even care that it was probably that Nixon wouldn’t be able to see his daughter or be present in the delivery room. Besides it was strange that being trained in the psychology field, she thought it was ok for her daughter to live in precarious conditions and no sense of stability (there are studies that support what I’m saying) just because she was born in them, which explains her bad psychological state of mind and her inability to make lasting connections. This is shown when she doesn’t see or mention her old roommates who were her friends.
Nixon was the whole package and he was willing to give up his dream, even when Liberty wanted to take away his child acting like she was the only one who made decisions, and she was a complete bitch

A sports romance read that I didn’t enjoy as much as I wanted to...

Nixon and Liberty were very likeable characters, who reconnected due to a coming pregnancy after their great night in Vegas.
Although they had an amazing chemistry, they exceeded in the sex department but lacked in communication.
So, after plenty of chapters, they expressed their feelings and their relationship was on the right track.

Nixon was sweet, caring and a loveable character.
However, after Nixon presented Liberty a beautiful surprise for their not-yet-born baby, she took a very serious decision on her own and tore apart everything.
While throughout the story it wasn’t easy to connect with her, after her last action there was nothing to redeem her for me.

They managed to reach their HEA, which was very short and hardly any.

I'm sorry but Liberty is the worse ( Spoiler Alert)

In a strict literary standpoint this book would get 5 stars, it was well written with great character development. Even the fact that I hated Liberty as much as I did meant the author did a great job at character development.

That being said I really wish I could give this book more stars but Liberty made me hate this book with a passion. Even ignoring my disdain for the concept of programs like "Breaking Boundaries". Liberty was self-centered, opportunistic, and dense. My first issue with her was if her greatest dream was to go to Brazil with this program and then travel indefinitely ( this being a dream she actually dropped everything and everyone for without a days notice ) she should've explained this completely and honestly upfront when she told Nixon about the child. If not then, absolutely when she found out that Nixon was invested in staying in the child's life. Regardless to her feelings with Nixon, they could've figured out a plan from day one but Nixon only got clued in when she got the results both times and only a peice of the information. Also for a physiologist she is terrible at sorting her own life. She was so self-concerned that she didn't delve deeper into her supposed friends toxic relationship, even though it could've been harmful, didn't care or delve into why her own boyfriend had ocd tendencies. Then she essentially used Nixon's own trauma and pain and his unborn child to get him to bend to her will so she can have some sick twisted form of accomplishment.

This book is centered around mental illnesses is so many forms and the one character that should be able to offer wellness or helpful coping strategies or solutions is the most toxic catalyst.

The author writes in a way that the characters know what the readers know. Where the readers are privy to both character's knowledge and thoughts. This when the author makes Nixon the bad guy and expects the readers to sympathize with Liberty it doesn't make sense.

I loved mostly all of her other books but I think she tried to take on the challenge of these deeply broken characters and throw in what's supposed to be a professional character to help the others. Instead the psychologist acted contrary and more harmful to the characters. There was no healthy growth for Nixon who was the character that needed it. If an author is going to write a character like Nixon and pair him with a character with the backstory profession like Liberty then there has to be healthy growth for him, not just him tailoring to her wants and desires.

If Teagan's story is next I really hope this author didn't take another hard topic like domestic abuse (yes emotional abuse is still abuse) and romanticize and glaze over it like she did with Nixon.....

Nixon is great. I wanted his story when I read Nathan’s book. Unfortunately Liberty sucks, and even though there was a HEA I guess, it’s not very satisfying when a good character ends up with a Terrible one

3 Lacklustre Stars

A sports romance involving an accidental pregnancy.

Written in dual POV.

I liked Nixon more than Liberty by the end. Some tiny skim reading happened at the half way point.

Holy crap when Samantha Whiskey steps off the ice and onto the gridiron she sure as hell knows how to score a touch down. Nathan Noble was one of my favorites of Samantha's heroes but his twin Nixon sure knows how to bring the swoon.

Thank god what happens in Vegas didn't stay in Vegas for Nixon and Liberty because holy crap this was one of my favorite surprise baby books.

Get ready to meet the Raptors, because Samantha has a whole new cast of characters for you to fall in love with.

Loved the story and this couple...up to a certain point.

There was a decent amount of character development and plenty of hot moments between Liberty and Nixon. And when the couple finally admitted their feelings I believed them. But when Liberty placed her wants ahead of Nixon--and not even discussed it with him-- I began to doubt her feelings. Did she love him as much as she claimed? I understood her desire to pursue her life long goal, but when she that's when I thought 'has this girl lost her mind?'

Except for that crazy plot twist, I thought it was a good start to a new series. Can't wait to read the stories of Nixon's teammates.

Nixon is the first book in the brand new football romance series, the Raleigh Raptors, by Samantha Whiskey. This author sure knows her sports and can expertly pen a steamy contemporary romance!

Nixon Nolan’s twin brother Nathan is a defenseman for the Carolina Reapers in her Seattle Sharks hockey series. He meets his now fiancé, Harper Thompson, in book 9, Defender, of that series. These characters do interconnect, but Nixon is a complete standalone and you will have no trouble following this book if you haven’t read her hockey series.

Nixon meets Liberty Jones, in Las Vegas, when she wins a date with him at a charity auction thanks to her friends. Sparks fly and they spend the night together resulting in her getting pregnant. I am not giving away any spoilers, because this information is in the ads promoting this book, but when she seeks him out to tell him he’s going to be a father, that’s just the beginning of these two. They are basically strangers embarking on the most important journey of their lives as parents.

He’s 30, which I personally like, a bit older and wiser than someone fresh out of college, and has strong morals and values. I truly like everything about him, everything! He’s generous and kind, family oriented, strong and protective, looks out for his teammates and is a leader, confident on the field but not so much in his love life due to a past betrayal, and best of all, is hot and handsome but is not a player. He has demons from his past that hurt him deeply, and in time, he shares them with Liberty.

The two of them are complete opposites. Where he is controlled and organized, she is more of a free spirit having been raised by a single hardworking mother who was a missionary placed wherever needed around the world. Liberty is pursuing her doctorate in psychology and plans to follow in her mother’s footsteps regardless of the fact that she is now pregnant.

There are so many things I liked about Lilly. She’s smart, compassionate, easy going, and couldn’t care less about his millions. But unfortunately there are also character traits that I didn’t like about her, and that is why my normal 5-star rating for this author is lower. The writing as always is excellent, and I realize not all characters in books are perfect–I rather like them flawed, but three quarters into the book, after they finally established a healthy relationship and he did the most heartwarming gesture for their soon to be born baby, she does something so horribly selfish, irresponsible, and cold to me. She rips the world right out from under him without even a discussion. I don’t want to spoil it for readers so I won’t go into detail, but even though the book ended with a HEA and they compromised, I can’t look at her as a heroine I admire. She was a trained professional in speaking to others and knew without a doubt a better way for her to discuss with him an opportunity she was offered.

She wasn’t a single woman anymore after committing to him and made a decision about their family without even consulting him. She said from the beginning and repeated it throughout their relationship that she didn’t need anything from him including his money, and that bothered me, too. She worked a part time job while pursuing her doctorate degree, most likely in debt. I do admire an independent woman and she never asked for anything and wasn't materialistic, but her actions were really self-serving.

Nixon was so loving and generous, sweet and vulnerable. He opened up his heart and home to her and accepted her unconditionally. He was so supportive of her and I couldn’t love him more. I loved how he was a great brother and son, and how he handled himself with so much class and charisma in social situations and at home. He was the total package. He was clever enough to know how to handle the fan girls and the media, and so humble. And to top it off, he loved the baby and was at every doctor’s appointment regardless of his football schedule which she didn’t even consider.

I also wished Felicity would have reached out to her new girlfriend who was being treated poorly by her boyfriend who was a teammate of Nixon’s. I am assuming this gets addressed in a future book because mental and/or physical abuse by a partner is never acceptable. I did love Nixon’s relationship with his brother and friends and am looking forward to reading more about them in future books, as well as the coach’s daughter.

Make no mistake; even though I was not a fan of some of Liberty’s actions in this book, I am a big fan of Samantha Whiskey. I love how she writes such strong, swoony heroes every time. She makes you feel deeply as if you know all of the characters personally. She is a very descriptive writer and does know her sports so it’s very real and relatable for readers with a passion for this genre. It never overpowers the story either, their professional athlete status is perfectly balanced in the story. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Idk if you know this... but Liberty is a traveler.

There is no way to say this without being harsh... This book was stale. The character work was only skin deep; many of the characters came off as a list of traits rather than a fleshed-out person. Liberty was the most developed by far, thus the most interesting. I don't think that showing(over telling) every aspect of a character is necessary but the story could have used a little more of it. We were told every other page that Liberty was a traveler and that Nixon was damaged by an ex-girlfriend and brother. Because many traits and backstories were so plainly stated it took out the tension that the story desperately needed IMO.

Overall, a meh experience.

While Nixon pretty much drops everything to cater to Liberty, Liberty is just meh. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed this book but mainly because of Nixon.

I feel like they had chemistry but towards the end Lib just pissed me off. She has a moment of 'this is my new life and I want what we have here' only for her to switch the script the next chapter. She drops a bomb on Nixon and when he is understandably enraged and she acuses him of being selfish and throws his trama in his face. I don't feel Nixon reacted badly or did anything wrong, Liberty had a all her plans tucked in her mind and never once clued Nixon in on the extent of her plans and unfair berates him for it. That was so not cool.

Its funny because up until Chapter 17 I rooted for them until I didn't. Honestly Chapter 17 made me realize how one sided the relationship was because while Liberty talked a good game of love and feelings her actions never matched but for what Nixon didn't say he showed in his actions and more than proved himself a good man.

Also I love a happy ending as much as the next person but sometimes the over hyped, fall-in-to-place endings are way too much and unrealistic that its off putting.

Idk I'm torn because I loved the book until chapter 17 but after that I just could care less. So yeah lol do with that as you will.

A CR. I could not choose between 3 & 4 stars, so
I went w/ 3.5 stars

Nixon was the NFL's highest pd QB. He + Liberty fooled
around in Vegas, & drank so much they had sketchy
memories. Liberty shunned materialism, as her mission-
ary Mom taught her. Liberty was a psychology PhD
candidate. I can't conceive of a near PhD engaging in
this risky behavior. She had a 'crush' on Nixon but met
him only once before. About a month+ after Vegas, Lib
discovered she was pregnant. The hero's response?

This story had several complex emotions, but the sex
scenes became repetitive filler. Nixon & his twin Nate,
a NHL star, remained close. Nixon acted brooding &
avoided emotional intimacy, especially with women.
Nix had zero responsibility for someone's death, yet
he blamed himself. No logic here.

Lib acted too independent. MCs-both too stubborn &
not compromisers. Toward the end the MCs agreed to
an impractical mode of living. Smitten Nixon took too
long to admit his feelings. Doubtful that Lib would've
settled for a 'kept woman' role as she did for much
of this story.

Overall I enjoyed this story and it had the perfect amount of angst without being too dramatic. But the heroine near the end really really had me disliking her and I actually never gained my like for her back. I thought the ending was cute and that kind of saved it but her actions almost ruined it for me.

Right up until the last 20% or so, this was a solid 4 star read. I loved Nixon! And up until that point, I loved the heroine, but then she does something incredibly selfish, and instead of making it right, HE is the one to do so. I hate when the person who did nothing wrong is the one to fix things. She kept saying she loves Nixon, but I was never really convinced...but they got their HEA in the end so there's that at least.

Still, a great read up until the heroine ends up being a dick. Then I just skipped to the end.

As for future books

**SPOILERS**

First of all tribes in Croatia. WTF
I absolutely hated Liberty. She is supposed to be a psychologist and completely ignores friends toxic relationship. She is totaly self-centered and don't think how her actions affect other people. Because of her childhood she doesn't know how to have lasting relationships with other people which shows in her relationship with her former roommate. She keeps talking about future and life with Nixon's and staying in one place for a change but then immediately starts packing when she gets internship in Brazil. I got the feeling that she wouldn't even explain the situation to Nixon had he not been there.
I did not like the ending and the "compromise" they reached "together".
I tought about giving this book 2 stars but I can't do that to Nixon.

2.5 stars. Would have been higher but honestly I hated Liberty by the end. I think she's the one who is so incredibly selfish no matter how she turns it around. She made no attempt to compromise, had zero considerations for the father of her baby and how he'd feel with her taking said baby away, and ran so she wouldn't have to talk it over face to face even though her flight didn't leave until the next day. But I'm sure she's a great psychologist.... It's rare I read a female MC who I don't find to be redeemed by the end of the story. I wish Nix had gotten joint custody and found someone much better.

Liberty Jones got one date with her celebrity crush, Nixon Noble, after her roommates won him in an auction. Well, she got a lot more. Their one night in Vegas resulted in two pink stripes 👶🏻.

We’ve seen Nixon before but never like this. He is very rough on the outside but a huge softie on the inside. His relationship with Liberty was very unique. They were complete opposites. Nixon loves control and you’ll find out why. He’s more complex than you’d think. Liberty was raised to only own as much as she could pack up in two suitcases. She is such a free spirit.

These two had an undeniable chemistry but their dream careers clash in major ways. Would Liberty decide to put down roots in Raleigh with Nixon and their baby?

I am convinced that Samantha Whiskey’s athletes are the SEXIEST 🔥
This new spin off series is brilliant. I’m pretty sure the Raptor are already my new favorite team. She scored a TD with Nixon. He’s literally a dream.
This book kept me on my toes and wanting more. I always finish a Samantha Whiskey book feeling satisfied 💛

What Happens in Vegas Lasts a Lifetime.

Oh Samantha Whiskey, you have done it again!
“I wasn’t just hooked anymore… I was addicted.”
This was how Nixon and Liberty’s story had me...up to the wee hours of the morning despite having to be up for work.
Liberty was tough...she stood independently and held tight to her goals and dreams.
She was just the tank to break down Nixon’s walls, everything he didn’t know he needed.
Nixon though!?! *insert swooning meme and fainting meme too*
Gah, I just loved him, the way he loved so hard. When he talked to the baby: I felt tingly all over, ovary explosion.
My heart gets the flutters just seeing his name.
Then talk about emotional, one scene had me with the biggest lump in my throat.
Whiskey gave you the good, the bad, the heartbreak and the swoon.
O.M.G. DID I SWOON over this man??

Best book boyfriend in sports romance books ever!
Safe read, ONS pregnancy
Both celibate before meeting, both celibate during separation
Great caring tender thoughtful man, beautiful inside and out
Heroine i didnt like too much: she left this precious man, she was 7 months pregnant and she went to archive her dreams too far away, and she knew he was in love with her and with their child. It was very cruel step, i hate her for that pain and hurt she made.

If a heroine was going for a worst heroine award, we'd have a real contender here folks. Liberty is hands down one of the worst heroines I've read!
Sp oi ler is h co n tent ahead!
Liberty was raised with her mother all over the world hopping from one missionary gig to another. Now Liberty is at UNC Chapel Hill getting her doctorate in psychology. She's obviously been stateside and settled in one location for sometime to get to this degree. Though she mentions never really staying in one spot longer and six months. She also says she has no friends. But yet her sorority sisters got her the charity bid date with Nixon, the hero.
She ends up preggo from their date weekend together.
She pops up like a month or so later and tells him. He's shocked.
Next day she tells him he can sign his rights away. He says NO. He wants the baby.
He moves her in.
Buys her a new car.
Takes care of her.
Is ACTIVELY involved, is clear he wants her AND the BABY. Loves them.
Nixon lost his brother tragically and due to this has struggled with mental health issues and has to maintain a routine and level of control/order in his life.
She's trying to be a counselor for goodness sake and she's a MESS. Unorganized and hippie ways. Once she hears this reasoning behind his ways, she mentions once trying to be neater.
Anyways, the horrible part. She NEVER tells him the internship she wants is in BRAZIL where her mom is.
She gets another one in town.
Then BAM she gets offered Brazil instead. She whirl winds through to her room in his house and starts packing to leave right away.
He's like whoa, what?! And she starts freaking out like how could you try to keep me from my dreams yada yada going off on him. It's ALL ABOUT HER. He's like but you're nearly six months pregnant and that's my baby and I love you. She's like quit football and come with. And he's like but I'm under contract and she's basically like okay well, see ya.
Seriously. This is her attitude!
She leaves. Month goes by and he shows up there to tell her he will quit football and she's all no, you can't do that. Her mom sounds terrible too btw.
Back home NO ONE is telling him how horrible she is for doing that to him. He's not even thinking she is! She basically took his child from him and ran off. Abandoned him!
She finally comes back and says we will compromise.
This works out to be him donating 4 million a year and her doing her counselor thing in third world locations 4 to 5 months a year in his off season dragging the family with.
It was ALL about her. She didn't even care about her Childs needs or safety. It was all HER DREAMS yada yada.
When she decided to keep that child, the father deserved to know and HIS opinion matters too. She should have altered her dream to a reasonable option when she decided to keep that child. She could have easily still practiced in the USA and then volunteered like a month a year or so.
He deserved someone SO MUCH BETTER. I would NEVER have forgiven her.

Liberty so far is the worst heroine that I’ve read out of all the writers series. Even though she “compromised” in the end, thinking she could take the man’s baby away from him because she had a dream to be in a third world country is just ridiculous. Especially third world mental health care? That’s the more important dream, so let’s rip a daughter out of her fathers arms. I hope this series gets better, I had higher hopes for Nixon especially after his vulnerability in Nathan’s book. He should have sued for full custody and I would have rather he fallen in love with the Nanny (gage and bailey style).

Could've been a 4 star read but I took a star off for Liberty.

I don't recall them mentioning how old she was but for someone doing her PhD in Psychology, she sure was making alot of stupid and selfish decisions with no regard to how it would affect her child.

I am all for never giving up your dreams because of a man but when your dreams entail you thinking it's perfectly okay for you to pack your bags and move to a 3rd world country without having any discussions with your boyfriend and father of your child, that's seriously messed up.

I found her childish and it pissed me off so much that I skimmed through the end of the book because I was already over her shit.

I was given an ARC for an honest review.

HOLY SMOKES!!

I LOVE sports romance. I LOVE surprise/accidental babies. And I have LOVED Samantha Whiskeys last handful of books. But I was a little cautious going into this one. I'm not a crazy fan of the Vegas trope. And that has to do with the fact that I live in Vegas. 🤷

It is *ALWAYS* portrayed wrong and I just get so frustrated and cant't help being defensive of my home!

So I went into this with a grain of salt. However, I definitely came out happy! For me at least, the whole Vegas part wasn't a large chunk of the story. So there was no opportunity for it to be displayed incorrectly.

Now on to the good stuff...

I loved how supportive Nixon was and tried to be. There were absolutely points in time in which Liberty frustrated him and readers. But I did like her carefree no frills attitude.

What I really liked about this book though, was how it gets really right into the meat of the story, right away. However, I wasn't left wondering and wanting info. Vegas, is more of a "Flashback" and we go right into Liberty finding Nixon and informing him of her being pregnant. I *HATE* when books beat around the bush and it takes 50% to even get to that point.

I honestly didn't think it could get better than Samantha's Hockey series (hockey is my FAV-- GO KNIGHTS GO!!) but I am really pleased with the start to her FOOTBALL series. I cannot wait for more!!

I was really excited for this one, knowing it’s the pregnancy trope. But this really disappointed me. Nixon Noble is the twin of the other Noble brother from the Seattle Sharks series.

When I first started this I felt no connection to the main characters. As it went on, I feel like there was no depth and back story to Liberty mainly. The epilogue was cute though.

I was given an early copy for my honest review of this book.

Nixon is the first book in the Samantha Whiskey newest Sports Romance series, Raleigh Raptors Series.

We’ve met Nixon Noble before in her Carolina Reapers series, he’s Nathan Noble’s identical twin brother. Nathan is an NHL defenseman and Nixon is an NFL quarterback.

The book starts of with Nixon at practice with his team before the new season starts. Early in the book, we know Nixon is still thinking about his charity date winner, Liberty Jones. The two had a hot and steamy weekend while in Vegas with Nathan’s teammates.

Still thinking about her months later, he sees her at his team practice. Liberty then drops the “I’m Pregnant” bomb which naturally leaves him stunned. Liberty is a free spirit who grew up around the world with her mom volunteering with such organizations like Doctors without Borders. Liberty has it in her mindset that is how she wants to raise her child and doesn’t want or need anything from Nixon.

Nixon and Liberty’s relationship is complicated, but it works for the two of them. I absolutely loved the dynamic of the couple. Liberty is a free-spirited minimalist woman and Nixon is a man who loves nice things with a mild case of OCD. You can’t help but falling in love with the two of them. Both Liberty and Nixon are fighting some demons from their past. Whiskey brings the feels when it comes to them.

Whiskey’s books are always great and filled with drama, laughs, steamy scenes and a slice of humble pie. I can’t wait to read more books in this series. Whiskey always introduces second primary characters who you love and can’t wait to read about next

I decided to check out this series as they cross over with the Reaper series so much, so there are somethings I have been spoiled on as I'm caught up on that series.

I actually really liked how Liberty was when she came to tell Nixon she was pregnant, not out for anything, but more you are the father, you should know. I found myself laughing at his reaction of stunned stupid, spewing out the very wrong things to say. Sadly that interaction set the tone for their relationship. Half things were said, assumption on the part of one or the other of them, then a big flip out when the details came out. It's too bad that it took them so long to figure things out because they were good together and just what the other person needed. I was glad that they did work things out in the end and in a way that allowed both of them to get their dreams.
