She couldn’t lose another sick baby… then he brought her his dying daughter.
As an undercover CIA agent, Daniel Callahan was an expert at keeping secrets. None of his family or American friends knew about his two children until his baby daughter became sick, and adults were dying all around him. The only person he trusted with her care was his first true female friend, Nita. Even though she’s his sister’s good friend and teammate, Daniel's feelings her are far from familial.
After a tragedy in med school, Nita Banks decided she never wanted anything to do with treating sick children ever again. When Ebola breaks out in the middle of a Central American coup, she has her hands full between missions and helping the CDC find a cure.
When Nita discovers Daniel’s baggage includes a diaper bag and a rollie with superheroes on it, she’ll have to face her fears or lose both the baby and Daniel.
Unguarded Love is the forth novel in KaLyn Cooper’s Black Swan series filled with strong heroines and the alpha heroes who dare to capture the heart of a woman warrior. Each romantic suspense features one of the active duty women secretly trained in SpecOps and a member of the Ladies of Black Swan.
KaLyn Cooper’s romances blend fact and fiction with blazing heat and heart-pounding suspense. Twenty-two years as a military wife has shown KaLyn the world, and thirty years in PR taught her that fact can be stranger than fiction. She leaves it up to the reader to separate truth from imagination. She, her husband, and bird dog live in Tennessee on a micro-plantation filled with gardens, cattle, and quail. When she’s not writing, she’s at the shooting range or on the river.
I love this series, but I will say of all of the ladies, Nita was my least favorite character. We finally get her back story, and Daniel's story as well. It makes it easer to understand Nita and where she is coming from. I love the backdrop of knowing more of the undercover work that Daniel was doing, and the virus that effects the Nicaraguan citizens as well. I also liked that they were friends first, as they both had very active sex lives. I like love stories, not lust stories, so having their friendship as a foundation was a great plus. The only thing that I wished, since they had a friendship, was that they had a conversation as to why Nita reacted poorly to Baby Bella initially and her aversion to being around and treating babies. I also wished that conversation could have been had with her girls too since they are also the best of friends. I thought that this was pivotal information that should have been discussed. Otherwise, I loved the story and the ending.
Read a few chapters about 20%. Had no motivation to continue. The description of the special team, what they are doing etc was not really compelling. Didn't pull me in. The central character seemed obsessed with sex. every few pages she wants to do it with someone, sometimes more than a single someone or is recollecting doing it with someone. When the sexual chemistry is part of the storyline it is fine. But when only sex is the storyline and the CIA/special teams doesn't really pull you in, I feel like its time to give the book a miss
Nita and Daniel are already friends at the start of the book, and apparently the relationship changer (from friends to interested) happened in the last book because she uses his kiss as a distraction while training at the beginning of the book. Both consistently think of that all-night-long conversation where they bared their souls to each other, but nowhere--in this story, at least--are we told what was said.
The plot is the principal component of this story. I looked up the Nicaraguan Canal because I'd not heard of it. It was cool to have current events, new technology, and governmental machinations be pertinent parts of the story while keeping it fiction (I checked; the Nicaraguan president has been in office since 2007).
Character development was lacking. Yes, we see what happened to Nita with a baby in the past and her reaction today, but it falls flat. We see a little of Daniel's childhood, but it, too, doesn't illuminate him as a person. I simply don't know or understand either character.
The setting is Costa Rica, and I didn't get enough of either the jungle or the beach to satisfy my curiosity--no flora, no fauna, no temperatures and humidity, and no local dishes. This could've been set in the desert mountaintop where I live, and not many words would change.
You might like this book if you're interested in reading about a woman who isn't strong enough to acknowledge she has vulnerabilities. You might like this book if you like stories lightly sprinkled with guerilla strategy, technology, US governmental influence, and medicine; and liberally doused in sexual thoughts and actions and in swear words.
Do I need to read books before this one: Yes, see my top paragraph. I feel like I missed more than half their romance, and just got the sex part Would I read more of the series: no Cliffhanger: no POSSIBLE TRIGGERS Sex: talk of oral sex, fantasizing, multiple sex scenes Language: 105 F words, 25 Lord's name in vain, 31 S words Violence: evidence of child abuse, gun fight, dead bodies
Unguarded Love is a fantastic addition to the series. It is a well-written story with relatable characters that have believable issues and a love story that tugs at the heart strings. I really enjoyed the main characters and their dialogue in this book as well as they story-line; though some of the political stuff was a bit much for me, but realistic just the same. I liked that Ms. Cooper put so much thought and back story in the book to explain Nina’s fear of babies and helped her adjust and work through her issues gradually instead of her suddenly being better and everything perfect. I also liked the fact that Daniel was not made out to be the perfect man. He had a lot of flaws and made a lot of mistakes but owned up to them all and admitted how clueless he was about raising children and was willing to give up everything to be the father they deserved. The love story between Nina and Daniel was slow building and just right. Though they came together physically, they kept their heart apart. They had issues to work through personally and together and it took time to build up a true bond of trust and love. This was a great addition to the series and worth the read. *I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and am leaving my honest review.
Black Swan ladies... This book like the others are the best I've read... hands down!
You know when you pick up one of KaLyn Cooper's books that it will be loaded with suspense, romance, hot sex and intelligent, talented characters. Nita and Daniel's story is plausible, and intriguing to the last word. You can't help but pull for their HEA... I fell in love with Simon from his first words; love that little man! Start your journey today...
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. I was not compensated for my review and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.
Characters are unlikable, unrelatable, and very ego driven. They take no responsibility for their actions or the repercussions. Oops, doctors and scientist ccidentally expose people to a deadly virus and become shocked when an outbreak occurs and people start dying. The lead male has 2 children with a,woman he doesn't trust and considers nuts and has no clue that she may be hurting those children because he rarely sees or interacts with his children. I became angry with the lead characters and their excuses.
Book 7 in the Black swan series by KaLyn Cooper. Inloventhese books about strong heroines fighting from their country and the men they bring to their knees. Lady Harrier (Nita) is up next and is suffering from down PTSD from when a baby died in her care but no-one knew what was wrong with the wee thing. Some years later she is with the Black swan and doing a great job and she meets Daniel, one of her friends brother and they spend the night talking about things. He goes back undercover and she moves on to her job.
Daniel is undercover to help topple the government in Nicaragua and insert a new power that will do good for the country. Having got his orders from his uncle, he goes back until the coop starts and an EMP knocks everything out and he has to get some scientists out with the last person he expected.........Nita. Things take a turn as an unexpected epidemic hits and people start dying. It's a race against time to find a cure and then Nita finds something out about Daniel that makes her rethink getting to know him.
This book had a lot of highs and lows but was written with the same attention to detail as the rest of the Black swan ladies. I can't wait for the next one that comes out and hope that group 2 get books as well. I received an advanced reader copy of this book
Unguarded Love: Daniel & Nita: A Strong Heroine Military Romance is book four in the Black Swan Series by Kalyn Cooper. CIA Agent Daniel Callahan is working undercover in Central America. CIA Agent Daniel Callahan had a secret his two young children who travel with him everywhere. One night his daughter became ill, and the only person he trusted with his secret is Nita Banks. However, Nita Banks had her secrets will her fear stop her from helping the sick child. The readers of Unguarded Love will continue to follow CIA Agent Daniel Callahan and Nita Banks to find out what happens.
Unguarded Love is the first book I have read of Kalyn Cooper and as always have read a series out of order. I engage with the plot of Unguarded Love from the first page. I love the way, Kalyn Cooper portrayed her characters and their interaction with each other throughout this book. Unguarded Love is well written and researched by Kalyn Cooper. I like the Kalyn Cooper description of the settings of Unguarded Love that complimented the plot of this book.
The readers of Unguarded Love will learn about women in the special forces regiment. Also, the readers of Unguarded Love will know about Ebola, and the devastate it courses to communities.
Unguarded Love is the 7th book in the Black Swan series by Kalyn Cooper. As always a book by this author is a kick ass emotional story surrounded by suspense, political intrigue, loyalty. friendship and hot chemistry between the main characters. Nita Banks aka Lady Harrier is a doctor and tasked with stopping an Ebola outbreak in Nicaragua during a political takeover while trying to save the niece of her best friend. No stress right but the ladies of Black Swan can multi-task with the best of them. Added to all of the upheaval Nita is falling in love with Kaitlyn's brother Daniel and you have a phenomenal story you won't be able to put down. This book is a standalone and can be read out of sequence like the rest of the books in this series. if you like luck ass women and the equally alpha men who love them and support them Kalyn Cooper is the author for you. You can't read just one of her books. She is addicting and you will quickly become a fan.
Riveting. I love this author. She is one of my very few automatic one clicks. This story was fantastic. If I didn't have responsibilities I would have finished it in one sitting. KaLyn Cooper was able to weave current politics into the story in a way that was humorous and fit the needs of the story without being offensive to anyone. (Serious gift if you ask me) The book was fast paced without being so fast that it left any details out or cutting corners of plausibility. There were many elements that as an everyday average woman I could identify with. Filters, uncle's, motherhood and loss. I really got a kick out of the ending. Awesome ending. Sweet and a chuckle all in one. I did receive an ARC in exchange for an honest review. And this is as honest as it gets. If you get it you won't regret it!
There were so many things I liked about this book but my number one thing would be how Mrs. Cooper was able to make Nina so relatable. Sometimes in books like this, the hero or heroine almost takes on a larger than life persona. Nina is such a smart, capable kick ass woman. However, in this book, we found out a weakness she has. I loved reading about the who, what and why she has this weakness and the lengths she was willing to go to overcome this.
Daniel was also enjoyable to read. He was this warrior that overnight became a single dad to two small children who were sick. He had to learn very fast and what it means to be a dad and reevaluate his priorities.
This book tugged at the heartstrings and really made you root for the two of them.
These two characters have to be my new favorites of this series. While Alex and Kat are awesome, Nita and Daniel are so much more than just that. Even more so since Daniel is Kat's brother.
We learn much about the mysterious Daniel. All we knew before was that he was deep undercover with the CIA, now we get to know all of it.
Now the reasons they initially meet up in a 'work' environment also brings them together again. This time at the home in Costa Rico owned by his family and he brings quite the surprise, his two children, the baby very ill.
The CDC, a race against time and hold your breath moments with another BIG surprise which I loved!
I laughed, cried and kept myself hydrated for those steamy and sometimes sweet scenes with Daniel and Nita. You won't be able to put this book down!
I do love the Ladies of Black Swan and I really wanted to love this and although I enjoyed the story it didn’t quite live up to my expectations. Nita and Daniel’s love story delivers on the action, suspense & emotional upheaval set against the backdrop of Nicaragua & Costa Rica & the Ebola virus. Nita Banks is a doctor & kickass special operator, Daniel is a deep cover CIA operative, they are both live hard, play hard people but underneath you sense their yearning for something more, their back story also helps understanding of why they are the way they are. They were friends first & their love story grows from that foundation. The sex is pretty hot too! I have to confess I had to reread some parts to fully gasp the Nicaragua coup plot to make sure I the sides & intentions straight. The scene when Nita meets Daniel’s children I think needs editing as Nita seems to know he has 2 children before she even sees Simon. Both characters have enormous hang-ups from their past and I don’t understand why they never talk to each other about them especially as they were friends first. Nita never talks about what happened to her & her fear of treating babies not to Daniel or her team, then suddenly her fear is gone - it doesn’t make sense. Although not my favourite characters it was an enjoyable read, it was a good plot that kept me interested, the action was good, the children were cute & I liked the ending
Unguarded Love: Lady Harrier & Daniel is a phenomenal military romance by KaLyn Cooper. Ms. Cooper has slammed one out of the park with this well-written story. Nita is a member of the Black Swan unit, Daniel is an undercover CIA operative and the brother of Nita's team leader. Their story is packed with action, suspense and sizzlin' sex. I suggest you do what you have to do before picking up this book because once you start it, you won't want to put it down. Kudos to Ms. Cooper for another outstanding book. I loved every page. Unguarded Love is book 7 of the Black Swan Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete story, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
OMG! What an intriguing story. This story is about Nita and Daniel. These two found each quite a while ago but only recently found their love for each other. Nita finally got over her fear of babies to take care of Daniel's daughter. There was not very much violence in this book - because of the children - but there was way too much death. An epidemic can do that. Simon is a hoot. Bella is adorable. Once the team rescued Nita - even though she could take care of herself - Daniel was finally able to get his kids out of the country. These two had the shortest ever engagement. Daniel proposed and 5 minutes later they were married. WOW! I am happy these two found their happily ever after. FANTASTIC job KaLyn! I would recommend this book.
Daniel a CIA operative in South America and his sister a Black Swan Navy SEAL who is team member of the same of a tough woman MD named Nita and the assisted take over of the government --- yes this is really complicated and so many characters and its past my bedtime! So Daniel has 2 children while undercover down in South America, the mother dies and he needs to take the kids with him. If you are able to follow this you are better than I am. I understand the plot and most of what happened and really enjoyed the story and the characters--- but it is just too hard to explain but if you like wild rides-- this will float your boat. Action and adventure, Ebola virus , romance and some sex. Have fun!
This is a stand-alone HEA book that grabs you immediately. I love how Ms. Cooper's attention to detail drives a mesmerizing tale of family, love, and politics. The ladies of Black Swan are amazing and now she has introduced a second Black Swan team! Daniel and Nita's story is sweet and although Nita is a bad ass it was good to see her softer side explored as well. This book left me both entertained and educated at the same time. Loved it. I received this as an ARC and was not compensated for my review nor required to write a positive one. My opinion is my own and my opinion and recommendation is to 1 click this book.
I love kicka** military men & I like kicka** military ladies even better. Nita, Dr. Banks, was pretty hardcore, excellent at her job and not looking for romance, sex only. She had met Daniel a few years ago, and now again in South America, amid chaos, subterfuge, a coup, an epidemic with some horrifying effects, and some mightily kept secrets. This had me from the 1st page. A very fast-paced, easy read with so much action packed into it, you'll forget it's a romance, until you get to the panty meltin bits, along with the Little Bits. Loved it All!💚💙
This story seemed so familiar to me, that I can’t help but wonder if it is a rewrite or pre-write of another book I have read. It was just Soso. I did not really believe any of the characters or the emotions they were supposed to be feeling. I did not feel the relationship between the main characters. Not anxious to read other books in the series, happy to be finished with this one and move onto something else. This book is part of a series but there is no cliffhanger.
Got to love all these ladies and finally getting Nita and Daniels story was wonderful. Nita who was always the player and had endless 1 nights finally found the right guy. Daniel was also a wonderful character who was undercover for years and ended up with a couple of surprises of his own. Loved the chemistry and the entire story. Learn so much more about Nita and she was such a believable character. One of my favorites in this series! Loved it!!
Nita is a doctor, but a bad experience with a baby has done a number on her. She's one of the Black Swan ladies and is in Costa Rica to develope a serum for EBOLi. Daniel has been undercover for years with gurellas in Niguara. He has 2 kids his sister and no one else knows about. When Nita is kidnapped, Daniel goes nuts and his cover gets blown. A really good story. Plenty of heat, danger, secrets and surprises. HEA
I cant tell you hiw much I have enjoyed Nita and Daniel book the emotions the journey is unbelievable but beautiful. KaLyn Cooper just seems to bring this strong women into your heart and then she throws them in to a adventure that is real and dangerous. Then the whip creme and cherry is the amazing men that come into their lives with their own baggage. All i can say is spectacular reads
Fast paced and sexy 4.5* Set almost entirely in Nicaragua and Costa Rica, with covert missions, Ebola outbreaks and adorable children, this is a must read book in the Black Swan series. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.
I really enjoyed reading this book! I really loved 3 year old Simon and his inability to say words with an s in it! As if he had a lisp. There is action in this book that is not enough to keep the state of Alaska warm in the winter time. I will definitely recommend this book to others!
Have you ever wondered shat Daniel was doing when he wasn’t visiting his sister Katlin? His and Nita’s story are explored in this book which is mainly set out of the United States. I’n not saying anything else because that avoids spoilers. Lot's of time with the Black Swan characters. Has swearing and sex scenes.
This continuation of the Black Swan series is a wonderful story. Meet new characters and Simon! Him your gonna love. Can't wait till KaLyn's next installment of this series is out.
Intense, dramatic and so freaking wonderful. Daniel and Nita are fabulous, Simon and Bella are absolutely adorable. I loved the story-line/plot, and the writing is great Two thumbs way up KaLyn Cooper!
What a great read. Could not put it down. Love Nita and Daniel. Strong female showing emotion. Can't wait for the next instalment. Had to read in a day! Love the Lady Swans.
