Fine. Not a spectacularly interesting story, but good enough to persist with in spite of not knowing half the words. One warning: it's mainly narrated in the past tense. Lots of preterite, trapassato remoto, imperfect subjunctive and other somewhat more advanced verb constructions that are essential for fluency but which you're unlikely to need at the gelateria. So, great as part of a program of developing fluency; not much use if your objective is "competent tourist" level.

This is my second book by the author of Italian Conversations Made Natural, and another step forward in my immersion process. I found that the 8 stories in the life of Adriano were told with a particular attention to feelings and details, which provided many opportunities to build my vocabulary in a real life context. Each story is followed by an extensive Vocabolario of words and expressions used in the text, then by Domande di Comprensione, multiple choice questions in Italian, followed by the English translation of the story. I used the process called extensive learning throughout the book, as described in the introduction, and reading became (almost) a breeze. It has definitely changed my outlook on learning Italian.
