Ruth Shores—cruise ship pastry chef extraordinaire—is busy creating her scrumptious desserts for an upcoming class reunion. The party includes an appearance by the famed alumnus and world-renowned author, Vincent Von Hemmingsly.
Understaffed, Ruth must work alongside her best friend, Loretta Moran, to meet an unrealistic deadline for the party. But there is a shining hope: newly hired John Anderson, a recent graduate of an esteemed culinary arts academy. However, instead of being an asset to their team, it’s soon discovered that he’s clumsy and prone to causing calamity in the kitchen.
But Ruth’s fumbling new team member is the least of their worries. The reunion party ends as tragically as one of Von Hemmingsly’s novels, and Ruth and Loretta find themselves in the middle of another mystery. When it is discovered that the victim was poisoned by Loretta’s chocolate soufflé, Loretta is deemed the prime suspect.
Will Ruth help her best friend prove her innocence? Or will their futures be as beyond repair as the dozens of cupcakes splattered on the kitchen floor?
Shenanigans. Madcap fun. And murder. All wrapped up in this fun and quirky cozy mystery!
Killer Soufflés & Clichés is the second book in this nutty, lighthearted Cruise Ship Cozy Mystery Series. So, get nestled in a cozy chair, pour your favorite beverage, and get ready for an exciting Bahamas escapade aboard the Splendor of the Seas!
Ruth shores is a cruise ship, pastry chef. Loretta Moran works with her, along with John Anderson. The reunion party ends as tragically as one of Von Hemminglsly's novel. Poisoned by Loretta's chocolate souffle, making her the prime suspect.
Fun read with a cruise, baking, and a murder. I'd like to have read more about the former, and less about the latter. Since I was a baker in the Navy, that portion interested me. Good read.
Ruth Shores was a former pastry chef who needed an outlet for her baking talents, finding her dream job on a new luxury cruise ship, Splendor of the Seas. She is busily preparing desserts for an upcoming class reunion event that got moved unexpectedly to an earlier time, giving them only a few hours to get ready. One of the attendees will be a world-renowned author, Vincent Von Hemmingsly. With insufficient staff to help, Ruth and Loretta and struggling to meet the fast-approaching deadline, relieved to learn that a new hire, John Anderson, will be able to help. Unfortunately, he’s more of a disaster than a help.
When the party is over, Von Hemmingsly is dead, a victim of a poisoned chocolate soufflé. Will Ruth and Loretta be able to solve the mystery? Or will Loretta, the prime suspect responsible for the creation of the chocolate soufflé that poisoned him, find herself thrown in the brig!
This second book in this series continued to be amusing and fun. The characters were believable and the story line was well-paced to keep the reader entertained as Ruth and Loretta try to figure out who the real killer is. Grab your copy and see if you can guess the culprit!
I'm really loving this sleuthing duo of Ruth Shores and her crazy but well-meaning roommate Loretta. Somehow she reminds me of a certain character on TV past named Barbara Jean ;) lol. Their boss wasn't exactly a tyrant, but Janice could be one if pushed too hard, so Ruth always had to make sure she had the chief security officer's blessing to sleuth while trying to keep it from her boss.
Their new employee was a lovable 20-something klutz named John, and he actually stayed alive lol. The pastry chefs were helping with a class reunion, and we all know the drama associated with those type of things! One of the classmates who was a famous author was killed, and there wasn't any lack of suspects. I got a kick out of the nerdy guy, Bartleby spouting all his unneeded facts, but in the end, nerds get girlfriends too. We got a little hint at the end of what the next party aka book will be. Let's just say Loretta was very excited for it! I'm definitely borrowing that one from KU too!
Killer Soufflés & Clichés is the second book in the Cruise Ship Cozy Mystery series. It tells the story of Ruth, a pastry chef on a cruise ship. Together with her best friend Loretta and the new and clumsy colleague John, they have to help make a reunion a success by making pastries. But suddenly there's a murder and Loretta becomes the prime suspect. It's up to Ruth to prove her innocence and find the real murderer. I really enjoyed this story! I liked the characters and the fact that it's set on a cruise ship is also fantastic for me. I love to travel so it's a nice extra for me. The characters were also really likable. I can't wait to read the other books in this series! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes to read mysteries.

This is another great series by Mel McCoy that is highly entertaining. Each is a cozy mystery that takes place on a cruise ship. Ruth finds herself in the middle of another murder mystery and must do what she can to prove her friend and roommates innocence.
It contained a clever mystery, strong story line, awesome characters. Written as a single pov. Each book can be read as a stand alone and has a completed ending. However, time is progressive and the stories are great, so I highly recommend reading them in order. Also, go back and read the previous series staring her granddaughters and husband. So good!

Killer Soufflés & Clichés is the second book in the Cruise Ship Cozy Mystery Series and is a great addition to the series.
Ruth and Loretta have a less-than-helpful helping hand in the kitchen of the cruise ship when a murder is committed with Loretta as the main suspect. This story has great characters and a fun plot at sea. The storyline is amusing and well written, with a calamitous baker, poison, murder, and mayhem. This book is a terrific, lighthearted way to spend an afternoon.

Ruth and Loretta survived their first cruise as pastry chefs and are now on their second, getting ready for a party for a class reunion cruise in their lounge. They really want an event free trip, but when a famous author is poisoned, they once again find themselves in the firing line - and becomedetermined to find out who the murderer is. Is it his wife, who has cause to be jealous? Or his highschool love? Or maybe his ghost writer? Lots of twists and turns in this entertainimg read!

Ruth is on another cruise baking her pastries and dealing with another deadline. A class reunion on board caused changes in the schedule and Loretta will be making the chocolate souffles. Ruth is also mentoring a new chef, whose main talent seems to be causing catastrophic kitchen chaos. The reunion brings petty jealousies, revenge, and murder to the Splendor of the Seas. I really enjoyed the contrast of personalities and humor between Ruth and her roommate.

As Ruth and Loretta starts off on their second cruise with new hire John that at times do not live up to being "help" in the kitchen, they stumble upon another murder from a high school reunion on board. With infidelity, claims of plagiarism, and the cause of ruin to a fellow classmates' future, tensions run high as old wounds are reopened and the resurfacing of feelings that never died.

Ruth and Loretta are right in the middle of another murder onboard the luxury cruise liner. A high school reunion has booked the dining room and things don’t go quite as planned when a guest dies. I love Ruth’s deduction abilities. She’s fun, compassionate and smart. She and Loretta make a great team and John is some good comic relief with his clumsiness.

Death by Chocolate Another exciting cruise on the Splendor of of the Seas with Ruth and Loretta. They have a new pastry chef joining them, fresh out of school and nervous. Between his clumsiness and the drama provided by the class reunion guests, there is always something to cause stress.

The second book of this series is so amusing and fun. With its well-paced and well-written story line, it keeps the reader focus and entertained throughout the story. The chemistry between the characters also add another point that catch my attention at the very beginning and keep me interested untill the end of the story. Great story.
I love a good cozy mystery. The story line is entertaining, has the right amount of mystery, suspense and a bit of humor. As you start reading, you're pulled in and captivating by the well written story and the entertaining characters. A great read for the summer.

This is a cute series so far. Although you don’t have to read the first book or her pet series to understand it I enjoyed them as well. Mystery, drama, and some comedy. Very likable characters, a fast paced story, and overall just a fun book. I’ll definitely be reading more from this author.

Vincent Von Helmsley was a famous author and member of the Arden Heights class who were having a reunion on the ship. Unbeknown to his public he used a ghostwriter to write his novels and hopes to keep his secret from the public. He has a wife and a roaming eye. When he ends up dead of course they look at the wife

This was an interesting book. They added another pastry chef to the mix and he is a bumbler and makes several mistakes. But Ruth and Loretta solve the murder....and I didn’t see this one coming.
Ruth and Loretta are back and they have a new clumsy sidekick, John. A high school decides to have it’s reunion on a cruise ship, and old rivalries have not been forgotten.
When a classmate is murdered, it’s up to Ruth, Loretta, and John to figure out what happened.
