What would you do if in order to save all humanity, only one man had to be sacrificed… and that one person were you? As the fear of nuclear attack becomes more real than ever, the key to saving everyone's lives lies in the courageous relationship between a shy teenager and his loyal dog.
Our planet is on the verge of World War III and a cloud of paralyzing fear is drifting in the air.
While the leaders of the free world try to find a solution to the continuing crisis, the voice of The Prophet—a mysterious figure that has gathered momentum in the last few years—becomes increasingly louder.
The lives of thousands have already been saved thanks to his appearances in the media during which he issues timely warnings against natural disasters and dangerous events.
Within an already unstable security situation growing worse due to a deepening recession, an unemployed detective named Paul McBride is invited for a job interview. Paul suspects someone senior is behind this offer, perhaps even the prophet himself. The task given to Paul seems too easy: to follow a shy, introverted high school student named David who is always escorted by Max, his dog.
Soon the investigator finds out the young man is hiding a dark secret of far reaching consequences.
When David’s secret is discovered by evildoers, he finds himself with his back against the wall, forced to demonstrate incredible courage in order to save himself, his loved ones, and the entire human race. But… will that suffice?

Author Orson B. Wolf weaves a gripping action-packed sci-fi thriller with intriguing twists and turns that will easily captivate the reader’s attention from the beginning. The author paints a dramatic and suspenseful tale that blurs the lines between reality and imagination. In addition, the characters are drawn with great credibility and conviction. It’s a well-written novel that will keep you engaged from the first page to the last.
The book description gives a sneak preview: ‘As the fear of nuclear attack becomes more real than ever, the key to saving everyone's lives lies in the courageous relationship between a shy teenager and his loyal dog. Now, if that’s not enough to get your curiosity juices flowing, I don’t know what will. But if you want to find out what happens, you’ll just have to turn the pages for yourself! However, I will say it was well worth the read. It’s a very impressive debut novel that has a distinctly cinematic feel to it.
The story had every element a good story should have. A solid plot, attention to detail, but best of all fleshed out, well-written and well-rounded character development. There’s an abundance of well-illustrated scenes that make you feel like you are right there in the story, and that’s something I look for in a good book.
I enjoyed the story, character development, and dialogue. There were plenty of plot twists that I didn’t see coming and that added to the book’s mystique. When I stopped reading to work, I found myself wondering what happened in the book, and replaying parts of the novel in my head to see if I could figure more out. It’s been a while since I enjoyed a book this much. It’s a first-class thriller with perfect pacing.
This was a fascinating and captivating read that had me immersed from the beginning. The story flowed from scene to scene with ease, and the author shows exceptional ability when it comes to storytelling. There are plenty of attention-grabbing moments in this page turner that will take the reader on a truly mesmerizing journey.
Highly recommended reading and a well-deserved five stars.
‘and a little child shall lead them’ – A brilliant new novel!
Israeli author Orson B. Wolf earned his degree in Visual Communication from Tel Aviv University, and graduate programs in screenwriting, copywriting, website design, webmaster/campaign management. He enjoys a career and life of rich experiences. Professionally, he is a copywriter, a social network content editor and a digital marketing specialist. His passion: animals – and he is a volunteer at the SOS Pets Society as well as creator of Israel’s first homeless pet publication website. All of this he blends in this impressive debut novel CHASING THE PROPHET, Book 1 of his Trilogy.
Orson’s skills as a screenwriter are in full force as his descriptive and involving prose attest in this debut novel. He has created an engrossing story that reads like a rocket launch, defying the reader to try to leave the progress of the story before the superb ending. His knowledge of how the public at large – especially the younger set – is consumed by hi tech network media, and that make his titular character (the Prophet) more credible.
In his Prologue Orson defines the world situation his story faces, a situation that is so very close to contemporary reality that the unfolding tale is most credible. Example: ’Against this backdrop of growing concerns about the possibility of a global war, the recession continues to deepen, and unemployment is raising its head. Everywhere change is on the wind, and with angry howls it carves an unknown, unpredictable destiny. The eyes and ears of the entire world are now focused on a single distinct voice, clear and steady. In recent years he has gathered much power. No one knows who he is, and many are the speculations about his true identity. They call him, “The Prophet.”
The gripping story is complex, but very well distilled in the synopsis: ‘As the fear of nuclear attack becomes more real than ever, the key to saving everyone's lives lies in the courageous relationship between a shy teenager and his loyal dog. First class story weaving by a bonafide exceptional new author. Very highly recommended.
I won this book on Goodreads. It was a fast moving and fascinating story that could really happen. The ending was wonderful making me definitely want more.
I knew this book is going to take me to a whole new level of experience when I've read the premise that says: What would you do if in order to save all humanity, only one man had to be sacrificed… and that one person were you?. I was totally sold out and was more than ready to start the book after that phrase. I was not disappointed because when I've read the story, it was more than what I have expected.
Chasing the Prophet by Orson B. Wolf is a different take on an apocalypse science fiction. It highlights a teenager and a dog as main characters and heroes to end a nuclear war that is about to start. In a way I found the story of this book quite relatable. Not to mention that was an absolute page-turner because of its amazing plot with a good twist. I would highly recommend this book to all science fiction lovers!
LOVED this book!! So much action and suspense, it was so entertaining. I loved most of the characters as well, minus what I call the brat pack. LOL I wish it didn't have to end, as I'd have loved to explore some more of the different story lines. Maybe there'll be a sequel?? Overall, GREAT book if you love action, suspense, a bit of dystopia, animals, and hero boys.
I enjoyed reading this book despite finding out the truth behind the prophet early on. The potential twist at the end surprised me though. I won this book thru a goodreads.com giveaway
I got this book on a lark as I don’t normally read books with such a young central character. Surprise, it was very interesting. The characters were well developed and clearly ready to continue the world of the novel. Can hardly wait to see what happens.
This book was a really good thriller. I couldn't put it down after the first few pages. It had lots of twists and turns and some very intriguing surprises. Loved the characters, especially David and Max, and the ending was perfect! I won a copy of this book in a Goodreads giveaway for this honest review.
A bit choppy getting everything in place, but once going great story. Enjoyed the book and really look forward to the next. Please don’t take 20 years on this one.
Wheels within wheels within wheels, and we are all the guinea pig who run inside the inner wheel, never knows there are multi layers of wheels out there. That's how I felt after reading this book.
I have it a five star rating. Why, because it thoroughly entertained me. While a little wacky it brought to the forefront the pandemic and who would save is. A Profit of all things? Who and what created the software and who controls it. The world is on the brink with the missels are aim and ready for someone to push the button first. Teens would like this because it sets a strong base in bullies both big and small. It is also a story of love and family. Enjoy
Believable characters, terrific plot, could this happen? Maybe. One of the few books I have read in the last few years that I couldn't put down late into the night.
Just at the right time This incredible story came to me just at the right time, in a very atypical year, where we are going through a pandemic and are feeling uncertain about the end of this terrible situation. I really liked “Chasing the Prophet” since it is narrated from an adolescent’s point of view. This boy is being chased by a detective whose mission is to discover this young man’s dark secret. This mystery involves, among other things, a world war. From the perspective of A high-profile prophet who has saved society in several occasions with his messages and speeches, this time is different and the only solution to save the planet seems to depend on the bravery of an ordinary teenager. I recommend this book to anyone who likes fiction and mystery.
This book is about a young computer genius who creates a program that can predict the future .
This was a great read I really liked this character but I felt like his character should have been flushed out more . It's like David the main character was a typical high school nerd trope especially with Rachel being the hot girl that he falls for but than Rachel is dating the rich bully . And than you have the Rich bully and his pathetic henchmen like I said this was a great story but I felt that this book had the potential to be so much more . Plus we never found out what happens to the bully and his henchmen what they did was a serious crime and let's not forget the crazy priest guy .
I read through half of this book before I had to put it down. I hadn’t realized it is a YA novel, and it is written with little connection to reality. The main character is a young teen who is has a secret identity on the internet that literally everyone, — governments, big business, organized crime, hackers, journalists, armchair detectives and more — would be actively and rabidly trying to uncover. It is clear that the author doesn’t have much experience with cyber security or how law enforcement tracks down their suspects, because every action the teen takes as his alter ego would lead even semi-competent detectives to him. Then the kid hires a former police detective for protection from bullies but insists that said detective never reveal himself to protect him, which of course is no protection at all and leads to crazy machinations to get the kid out of trouble. Why not just hire a bodyguard for when is away from home or school? The final straw for me was when a low level FBI field agent knew (and told a civilian about) when the US military would be launching a nuclear first strike at Russia. Huh? Why would she know that or reveal it? I could go on and on with gems like that.
Author Orson B. Wolf takes you on a thrilling sci-fi adventure in this story. Readers will meet Paul McBride, a detective who receives a strange job offer despite peril throughout the world. McBride is curious about this issue and starts to think that something sinister is behind it, perhaps The Prophet himself.
McBride accepts the offer which is to follow a shy teen who always walks with his dog. At first, McBride is confused. Why is he following the youngster? However, he soon learns that this teen isn’t as innocent as he appears.
Wolf includes plenty of impressive plot twists in this story that will shock you. You’ll also meet some interesting characters that add their own touch to the story. While well-written, a few areas do go by a bit fast which could make some sections difficult to understand. At 404 pages, it will take some time to read, but the investment is worth it.
Chasing the Prophet is a book written by Orson B. Wolf and is the story of David, a boy that is always accompanied by Max, his dog, and how a detective named Paul McBride was hired to follow him and record his every steps. Soon the investigator finds out the young man is hiding a dark secret of far-reaching consequences. I have to say I was very surprised with this book. It has it all! Very good characters that are willing to do everything for their cause, a great back story about our world in the way to have a third world war. And a lot of sci-fi elements that make this story very relatable in a couple of years. And the cherry on top, Max, a wonderful and playful dog. What more is there? Such a great story to follow! I had a blast reading this book and I totally see this becoming a movie! Great read!
This was a strangely addictive read that captivated me as soon as I saw the cover. A boy and a dog always catch my attention, and the storm anticipated me that something a bit scary will happen, so I didn’t doubt and I chose it. I was absolutely right. This is a creative masterpiece that I enjoyed from the beginning to the very last page! Suspenseful, full of unknown things, and absorbing, “Chasing the Prophet” transported me to a very different apocalyptic world. The main characters are sympathetic and realistic. The writing is very solid with a mix of action and quieter scenes and the protagonists’ activities and decisions make sense. This book deserves more than 5 stars, five is a low number that doesn’t do justice to this interesting story, believe me! I really loved this piece of work and can't wait for more to come!
The planet is on the verge of a third World War and a nuclear attack, a shy teenager and his loyal dog become empowered and are the only hope of saving everyone's lives. However, they are not the only characters that would keep this story flowing, the Prophet is actually one of the main protagonists here. All of them are trying to deal with chaos and find ways out of this plausible apocalypse. I enjoyed reading this tale a lot because I felt particularly connected to the adolescent and the dog. The exchange of communication between them was intelligent and even. Author Wolf has been able to maintain suspense until the very last word in the storyline. A lot of excitement is what I felt as I was reading, thanks to the entertaining twists and turns scattered along the 73 chapters.
Chasing the Prophet by Orson B. Wolf is a Sci-Fi Thriller that has a realistic vibe and technology twist. David is your normal, tech, nerdy teenager. He tries to stay hidden in the shadows as he saves lives, but predicting WWIII cases him in danger. David's dog, Max, can't always protect him, so Paul McBride was hired to watch over him from afar. Paul doesn't know the whole truth, but enough to know David has a deadly secret.
I found Orson B. Wolf to be a fascinating author that grabs your attention from the start. I enjoyed the short chapters as Chasing the Prophet picks up speed with the magnitude of David's secret. You feel a connection with the characters as the story unfolds. I think a young adult would love reading this book as the character faces many of the same issues.
Although some of the aspects of the possible Global Apocalypse drawn in this book seem quite outdated (since it is about the historical confrontation between America and Russia), the natural disasters and dangerous events scenario are believable. The story itself is flawlessly paced and full of surprises. And in the middle of its intricate plot, the characters of a detective, a shy teenager and his loyal dog are perfectly developed.
“Chasing the Prophet” by author Orson B. Wolf is an outstanding thriller, full of twists and turns that make the tale even more interesting and difficult to put down. I highly recommend it, not only to teenagers, but also to any adult who enjoys science fiction.
What can a dog, a teen and a detective do? Well, seemingly save the world! Taking a unique spin on apocalyptic literature, Chasing the Prophet by Orson B. Wolf paints a dystopian world in which the most unassuming characters turn out to play the largest roles in saving the world from impending disaster. Written in an easy to read style, the book is geared towards young adults but with the elevation of language, could easily be enjoyed by readers of all age groups. I wouldn’t classify the book necessarily in the sci-fi genre as it is more apocalyptic, but this does not take away from the novel at all, and it is certain to provide one with an enjoyable experience.
I have to be honest and say I picked this book only because of the cover. I love that the main characters are a couple and that one of them is a dog. “Chasing the Prophet” is a well-developed sci-fi novel that is going to take the reader on a rollercoaster of emotions knowing the world could disappear at any time.
Author Orson B. Wolf wrote a good plot with a fast pace making a very captivating narration. The characters involved are well balanced throughout the story and the fear of the Apocalypse happening gives that touch of excitement in the read.
To sum up, it is a nice book that teen and young adult readers would enjoy without a doubt.
A page turning novel When I started reading, I was mesmerized by this creepy but at the same time hopeful novel. “Chasing the Prophet” is a compelling sci-fi story written by Orson B. Wolf. I liked it very much. Paul McBride is an unemployed man who received an unexpected call that will change his current position and life. At the same time, there is David with his dog Max, who have made some evil deeds, but it won´t be easy for him to fulfil them. It is a page turning novel full of turns and twists that didn´t let me put it down. I experienced a mixture of emotions while I was reading it: fear and anxiety were two of them. But, without a doubt I recommend this thriller.
I recommend this book because of its brilliant storytelling, character arcs, and suspense leading towards a satisfying ending. The only negative was the length of the book—it was too long and unnecessarily so, with some redundant scenes! David, the 14-year-old main character, is as smart, organised, and flawed as they come, which makes him interesting, and even his dog is so 3-dimensional that they both make the perfect duo for a book like this. This is a story with interesting villains, and power plays. It's worth noting that the apocalyptic theme gives you a lot to think about even as an adult reader. Thank you author for publishing this book, and possibly do publish a sequel!
At several points I nearly put this book down, but I'm glad I didn't. First is the reality that one person really can make a difference and corruption really exist. Second is the realization that our safety rests on a very thin thread and we need competent people making our decisions, not some Magic 8 Ball type mentality.
Despite the required suspension of disbelief for this book I do appreciate how much is demanded from me to think critically.
