Harrison
I loved Laney Landers before most people learned to read.
Blonde hair, blue eyes that rivaled the ocean, and an invisible halo over her head.
She stole my heart the same day she threw sand in my face.
What started as a friendship grew into so much more.
I thought she’d be my forever.
But then life threw me a curveball and I changed course.
Laney moved on and found a different happily ever after...
While I wallowed in grief and regret.
And now she’s here, reminding me that I made the biggest mistake of my life.

Laney
I loved Harrison Montgomery since the first day he saved me a seat in kindergarten.
He was my best friend, my own real-life prince.
He taught me to ride a bike and showed me how to shoot a three-pointer in basketball.
He was my first kiss.
My first love.
My first heartache.
My first everything.
I don’t believe in happily ever after anymore.
Harrison forced me to write a new ending to my story.
But seeing him again after all these years—it makes me want things I shouldn’t.
Because that chapter of my life is closed forever.
Or is it?

CALLING ALL SECOND CHANCE ROMANCE ADVOCATES!!! no but seriously the angst and longing in this book... I may or may not have shed some tears while reading it

TW //

Harrison Montgomery has only had one great love and that is Laney Landers, his childhood best friend and now ex who cannot bear to be in his presence. Five years have passed since Harrison believed it was best to let her go, but now they're back in their hometown and Harrison won't stop until he fix the biggest mistake of his life and get the happy ending they deserve.

second chance romances is my favorite trope which means I'm picky about what I expect from these kinds of books, and this one met all my expectations. Harrison and Layne are literally soulmates, and you can see this from the beginning of their friendship, to their teenage relationship, and again when they met again. The connection and the chemistry between them was always there.

And both characters were the kind that makes you want to hug them and protect them from everything bad. Harrison Montgomery was a sweetheart, all he did was always thinking of Laney's best interest because that's how far the extent of his love for her went, even if letting her go meant he would be in pain. Laney Landers needs to be protected at all costs because she was baby. She loved Harrison so much that she was willing to drop everything to be with him, and even when she was more guarded now, old Laney was still there waiting to get out. She just had to stop settling for something and fight for what was always on her cards.

Besides the romantic aspect, the family dynamics here were very cute. I think this can be read as a standalones, but you should still read the first book to better enjoy the breadcrumbs. The relationship between these three brothers and their mom is funny but also sweet and I love when there are close families in books. And to all this we must now add Laney's family and everything they were going through that made me shed some tears too.

I can't wait for Jack's book because he's the class clown, but I bet he might have some swoon-worthy moments too. And the hints for his li... hmm... interesting 👀

As always, Laura Pavlov never fails in delivering an enjoyable and entertaining novel. This was a second chance romance to remember which felt somewhat akin to a modern day version of "The Notebook" (house renovation and fiancé included).

This romance was steamy but really, it was more of a sweet and romantic love. I loved both of these characters and cannot wait for more of the Montgomery Brothers in the next novel.

I will say that I had some difficulty with how the fiancé was treated when it came to the novel. It may not have been a situation that would have been considered as cheating because it wasn't physical, but there was definitely some dishonesty going on there.

There are some trigger warnings for this novel as some of the content involved topics surrounding: Cancer, Rape, and Sexual Assault.

5 stars for Harrison & Laney!

This was my first LPavlov book, and let me tell you, I am hooked! This was just the type of comfort read that I needed. Such a sweet second chance romance, and best friends to lovers also. Tragedy tears these two love birds apart for five years, but they find their way back to each other in the most beautiful and real way. This book made me tear up as I empathized with the characters, especially Laney and how hard it must have been for her to reveal all that was in her heart that she had been keeping from those that loved her the most. I’m not going to spoil, but this was so beautiful written, and I just wish all would read it. If you don’t know where to start with Laura’s writing, start here. You won’t be sorry. <3

I love second chance romances so as soon as I knew that the next book in the Montgomery Brothers series was Harrison and his one that got away, I was SUPER excited. And let me tell you it was one of the best second chance romances I've read in a while. The connection these two characters shared was just unreal, it was so special and beautiful. I fell in love with these two from the get-go. Harrison is such a special person. He's the sweetest, has the biggest heart. I felt so much for him. It was obvious from the first moment Laney was mentioned in Legacy that he wasn't over her and never would be. And now I get it, I really do. These two were written in the stars, true soulmates.

I swear these two were incredible together. I can't even. Laura writes some of the best relationships I've read. I love her couples and the way they fit and are just so meant to be. *sigh*

Peacekeeper had some emotional scenes regarding many points of the story. I love how Laura's stories always have such important moments with side characters and how each of these characters play such an important role in the overall story and just make the book so much more special. The whole story with Laney's mom and also Harrison's family just brings in so much emotion to certain scenes. I loved these two families so much. I am super excited that there's still one book and I'll get to hang out with them again. And boy I am just so excited for Jack. He's been my favorite since the beginning. There's just something about him. He's so positive and fun, I can't wait to see him fall in love. We got a hint about who his love interest will be and boy am I excited. Coworkers, enemies, sibling's bff to lover.. hell to the yes. It has all the potential to be my fav book in the series. I cannot wait!

Peacekeeper is the second book in the Montgomery Brothers Series which follows Ford, the eldest brother, Harrison the middle brother and Jack, the youngest. Each book is a stand-alone but is part of this interconnected series. In my opinion, it’s best to read Legacy, Ford and Harley’s story first because they are in this book a lot. Without reading Legacy I feel it’s doing a disservice, especially because Laney and Harrison, the stars of this book are discussed often in Legacy.

Harrison Montgomery was nicknamed the peacekeeper by his late father as he was always mediating arguments between Ford and Jack who are usually at each other’s throats. Harrison is a sweet, honestly kind man who has always been in love with his childhood best friend Laney Landers.

They were best friends since they have been 5. When Harrison’s dad died he broke up with Laney and they never saw each other much after that.

Now, Laney has to come back in town because her mom is sick. She can’t stand the idea of tuning into Harrison at first. She felt as though he abandoned her when she needed him most.

Harrison slowly but surely tries to win Laney back, even though she’s now engaged to another man.

The journey of them reconnecting is very slow. Not a lot of steam of fast paced angst in this read which is generally more what I go for.

This was a nice, sweet, second chance story. There are real issues in this book and lessons to be learned about overcoming obstacles and opening up about past trauma.

I enjoy Laura Pavlov’s real life, conversational writing style as opposed to using metaphors.

I love a good family series. My criticism is that it did feel like it dragged a bit. It was really low angst and didn’t captivate me like Legacy did. I loved Legacy whereas I could have skipped Harrison and Laney’s story.

I am looking forward to Jack’s story though. I do love this authors work.

Basically the same old refine story about the guys setting the love of his life free because she just loves her so much. He can’t simply keep his pand zipped while mourning. The only way for him to make sure the universe knows that he has a soulmate that he is devoted to, is to screw other women... Since you know that makes sense. She has tried to move on with a fiancé. Both of these characters are super young. While I love getting back to a second chance before 10 years for once, it begs the question why they both just didn’t spend the time they were apart on the issues that actually kept them apart and show some sincerity. You know, instead of ignoring their tragic angst filled life problems (that for some reason couldn’t have worked out together) and “soulmate” to jump into another bed.

Peacekeeper, by Laura Pavlov, is the second installment in the Montgomery Brothers series of interconnected standalones. Harrison reconnects with Lainey after pushing her away years ago. Lainey comes home after being away for five years to take care of her sick mother.  Lainey has to make some hard decisions about her current life in Chicago. Can she move forward, find true happiness, and heal from her past?  Will Harrison make her see that they should be together?

This second chance childhood friends-to-lovers romance packs the perfect amount of angst, drama, and steam! What a fantastic read! One-click worthy!

This book is the second book in the Montgomery Brothers Series and it was an absolutely fantastic to read. This book needs 5 million stars, I loved it. I really like how this author has written this story and from book #1 and in this book to her writing style is fabulous and I really enjoyed reading it, that I read it all in one go. This book is a real second chance, best friends to lovers romance book and that is my favorite to read.

Harrison is a man that runs the company with his brothers. He is such an amazing person and will do anything for the people he loves. A few years back he thought he was doing the right thing with Laney and letting her go but now seeing her again he knows that those feelings never went away.
Laney is such a beautiful and amazing person that has come home to help her family because her mum is going through a lot at the minute. When she sees him again after breaking her heart all that time ago she still sees him for that guy even if she is a little mad at him. Can these two find there way back into each others arms?

This book really did have my emotions all up and down at times and also times I was laughing, I was really rooting for these two because when two people are meant to be they really are. I loved these characters in this book all of them. The connection that Harrison and Laney has is so beautiful to see that you just cant get enough of them. I loved the brothers together and the relationship that they have with each other and the families are to sweet and Jack made me laugh so much. This author written this story so great that it flows fantastically and the reader can really connect with the characters and I really felt for Laney and what happened to her years back too. I really loved reading these and I really hope that Jack is next to get his own story too. I highly recommend everyone reads these two books.

*I received this copy in exchange for an honest opinion*

Personally, I really liked this second book in the Montgomery Brothers series. I have not finished reading the first one that brings us the story of Ford, the older brother of Harrison and Jack, but I think that each of the books in the series can be read separately, which will not affect the understanding of each one.
This second book brings us the love story of Harrison, the middle brother, and Laney Mae Landers.
They have known each other since kindergarten and, over the years, have become best friends and then an inseparable couple. They did everything together and, to stay together, Laney was willing to give up going to the university where they had both entered, since, due to a tragic event in Harrison's life, he had decided to stay in his hometown, next to the mother and siblings. However, and although Harrison adores Laney, he simply cannot let her ruin her life because of him and asks her to give him space, sending her to university alone.
Five years later, committed to another man, Laney is forced to return home to help her mother fight cancer. In other words, all the times that she has been avoiding returning home so as not to encounter Harrison have been in vain. She had to return and, hopelessly, deal with Harrison and the rest of the family that she once considered her second family.
Obviously, the feelings buried deep in each other's heart for so many years and in such an abrupt way, gradually come to the surface and they, especially she, will have to know how to deal with what they still feel and always they felt for each other despite all the heartbreak and pain they had when they parted.
I really liked this book, especially Harrison's relationship with his brothers and the way his whole family loved Laney and treated her as they always did, and also how her family loved all of them.
A character that I just loved and that I won't want to miss is Jack, the younger brother who brings that humor and lightness to this book. It was Jack who basically mediated the ugliest and most intense fights that often existed between Laney and his brother.
Anxious to see what the author is going to arrange for our cheerful stool with a huge loving heart.

Peacekeeper was a great second chance romance!

Harrison Montgomery and Laney Mae Landers were destined from Kindergarten or so they thought. Circumstances tore them apart but when Laney returns to town to be with her ailing Mother neither of them can deny their pull.

This book was such a feel good read. It hooked me from the start and I enjoyed reading about the Montgomery brothers again. This family has been through so much and many tough issues were addressed in this book. The sensitive topics were written well and even though they were absolutely heartbreaking it will make you fall in love with Harrison even more. Harrison is such the strong silent type - ever the peacekeeper. Definitely swoon worthy! Laney is a strong leading lady who does things smart but sometimes stays too much in her head. She has a hard time just letting go but when she finally does it is game on!

Laura Pavlov did a beautiful job of telling this story you can't help but want to be a part of this crew. Each character has a well needed part of this book and I've enjoyed getting to know them all!

This was my first Laura Pavlov book and I am hooked! It was a sweet second chance romance/best friends to lovers.
Tragedy tears Laney and Harrison apart for 5 years, but they find their way back to each other in a very real and beautiful way.

I empathize with Laney and can understand why kept everything bottled up over those 5 years. She and Harrison are very much alike in that sense, not wanting to hurt the one(s) they love the most.

This is a beautifully written story, and I can't wait to read more from Laura Pavlov.

I absolutely devoured this book, I just kept saying “one more chapter” until the next thing I know it’s 1am and I’m finished. Thats how you know this was a damn good book!! honestly been so long since I was so lost in a book I stayed up reading like this!
Harrison and Laney have such a beautiful and pure love story. I fell for each character separately, and then fell even harder for them together. I love how deeply they cared for one another! How deep the roots of their friendship goes. I love childhood friends to lovers romances and I especially loved Peacekeeper’s second chance element. I loved watching these two build back the love and friendship they had, and seeing it evolve into something even more beautiful! I cried with these characters, and I laughed so hard at Jack and his antics, I’m quite literally dying for his book!
I could go on and on about how much I loved this one. It is definitely going on my list of favorite reads of the year!!
I highly recommend not only this book but this series!!!
Legacy is available now and Peacekeeper is releasing on October 22nd and available for preorder!

Another wonderful Montgomery brother has arrived. We now have Harrison and Laney. This couple grew up as best friends and were destine to be so much more. Young love, promises and then life pulled them apart. They now have a second chance when Laney comes home to care for her mom but it isn't so easy. Laney is now engaged to another man. Harrison is ready to work to take back their future. This couple is sweet, funny and has such an electricity between them. We also have the dynamic funny Montgomery brothers surrounding them. Everyone knows that they belong to one another now if they could just find a way back to one another.

I basically read anything under the best friends to lovers category and this one also had the second chance trope so of course I had to read it !! This is my first time reading this author's work and I'm in love with the writing and her characters. I loved the family dynamic in this book and how the brothers had this really special bond between them.

Laney was such a sweetheart but also a badass. After she got her heart broken she didn't just give up and she moved on and became stronger. Sadly after she learned about her mother's cancer she had to go back to her hometown and deal with her demons...or one demon. Ugh her connection with Harrison was everything!!! That's why I love best friends to lovers books so much you get the easy banter and also the ANGST!!!! I loved reading about them, they were lovers but also soulmates so perfect for each other.

This book also talked about Laney getting rapped and once again I love how they added that just because the girl didn't say no she didn't also say yes, I'm really glad the heroine talked to a therapist about tho.

A really good read, can't wait to read more books from the author!!! I will be waiting for Jack-ass book 👀

This was a fantastic read. Laura Pavlov is an incredible writer. Her writing is gripping, emotional and suspenseful. After finishing Legacy I immediately started Peacekeeper and once again was pulled in and could not put the book down from start to finish.

Laney left home years ago after the end of the relationship, with the love her life , Harrison Montgomery. Not only were they madly in love they were childhood friends first and then became high school sweethearts and were meant for forever until Harrison completely shut down and shut her out after the death of his father.

Throughout reading this story my heart broke for these two beautiful characters. The love they share for the other shines through at every moment they share together and it is evident neither has really ever stopped loving the other. Laney is back home to be by her mom’s side who is fighting cancer and this is a chance for her to get some closure before she moves on and goes back to Chicago to her new life and the man she is about to marry. Or can Harrison mend the mistakes of his past when he was grieving the death of his father, before it’s too late?

I adored this second chance love story so much and it deserves all the stars!

I cannot wait for Jack’s story up next in Rebel.

Peacekeeper- Harrison and Laney

Oh the heartstrings!

Harrison and Laney grew up together, best friends since kindergarten. Then that friendship turned into more..much more. But life change with dad Montgomery passed and Harrison and Laney went their separate ways. Laney lives in Chicago and was engaged and Harrison worked with the family. He doesn’t deny she was the one that got away.

Laney is now back home, her mom is sick, and every encounter with Harrison has been a disaster. They argue non stop and have many unresolved issues. But the more time they spend together, confusion, guilt, hurt feelings..all the feelings have a way of making their presence known.

I think from the first book, Legacy, we wanted Harrison’s story. Such a great read about forgiveness and love. Love the world created in this series. Really looking forward to Jack.

🌶️🌶️.5

I enjoyed this one more than the first book. It was a slow burn, second chance romance that tackled some heavier topics.

Harrison and Laney were childhood sweethearts, but things ended when his father died and he wanted to stay home to help his mother. Laney was willing to change her college plans for him so Harrison ended things. Laney felt abandoned by him and cut all ties.

Now she has returned home to take care of her mom while she is going through breast cancer treatments. They start seeing a lot of each other and the feelings have never gone away. Harrison wants her back; however, Laney is currently engaged.

I enjoyed this one, but I am more excited for Jack’s book next.

Harrison Montgomery has found himself uninterested in relationships since he ended things with the love of his life, Laney Landers. Now, 5 years later, Laney has walked back in to his life and he knows, he can’t let her get away this time. Old wounds are hard to heel though.

This second chance romance by Laura Pavlov sent me reeling in my emotions as I felt so much of what Laney and Harrison were going through. These characters were well written and you find yourself hoping things work out even though there are many obstacles in their path.

These Montgomery boys are the only books I’ve read by Laura Pavlov but I find myself eagerly awaiting Jackson’s story as they were both excellent editions to my kindle library.

I was super lucky to receive an early copy of this book to review. This was Harrison’s story and man does it break your heart. So much heartbreak in this book, but in saying that there’s also so much build up and love to counter it. I love Har and Laney’s second chance. Laney had some things she was struggling with and it was written beautifully how she overcame them. Harrison is just has a heart of gold and you are definitely rooting for him to get his girl back! Laura is really good at throwing curve balls, you know something is going to happen, but you have no idea when and I love that! It was a sweet story and now I’m excited about the next book!

Peacekeeper is a beautiful and emotional second chance romance that will hit you with all the feels. Harrison and Laney have such a beautiful and pure love story and I fell in love with these two from the get-go and was really rooting for them.

I really enjoyed this book and I love Laura’s writing. It always pulls me in and has me hooked. This book is an emotional read and had me on a roller coaster for these two characters and their journey to a well-deserved HEA. They had awesome chemistry, their banter was great and I loved that it was so apparent that they were always meant to be together. This story flowed so beautifully and with a few twists thrown in which made for some gritty reading. Another fantastic story in this brilliant series and I’m so excited for Jack’s book.

I did not love book 1 but decided to go ahead and take a listen to book 2 just in case it grabbed me more than the first! Maybe the brothers would pull me in. I did think the brothers were interesting and funny - hoping for some spark in this 2nd chance romance!! But it didn't happen. I DNF'ed at 56% which is pretty far to quit but really it was boring, I really tried to care but, no, so I just gave up.

eh

This book is very highly reviewed, so clearly I am in the minority here. There were parts I enjoyed but in the end I found Laney Mae Landers annoying and couldn’t get into the big secret plot line - which ended up taking over the rest of the book. So two stars for me because I had to force myself to finish it and I rolled my eyes a lot.
