Wild River #4

Stars Over Alaska

Rate this book
The Alaskan wilderness may be the best place to protect her client, but also where it’s impossible to protect her heart.

Needing a safe place to hide her latest client, agent Leslie Sanders returns to her hometown of Wild River to wait out the search for the young Hollywood star’s stalker. Just being back in Alaska is stirring up emotions she’d buried, and as much as Leslie believed she was moving on with her life in LA, she’s still not over the death of her fiancé. The sun, sand and surf made it easy to forget cold Alaskan nights snuggled by the fire, planning a future with Dawson…but seeing Levi Grayson just makes everything that much harder.

Levi Grayson has been one of Alaska’s elite group of wildland firefighters for almost ten years, but nothing about his job rattles him as much as seeing Leslie again. When Leslie left Wild River after Dawson’s death, it had hurt to lose his two best friends in a matter of weeks. Resisting his feelings for her when Dawson was alive was tough, but he’s not sure he’s strong enough anymore to fight the attraction between them, or to let this last chance at love slip away like smoke through his fingers.

Levi, Leslie and Dawson have been best friends since childhood. Levi has been in love with Leslie forever. Leslie fell in love with Dawson, but on the day the two were to be married, Dawson was killed in the line of duty. After that, Leslie left her hometown of Wild River, Alaska, for Los Angeles, to work security detail/bodyguard to celebrities. Leslie hopes to leave her past and painful memories behind her, including contact with best friend Levi. Levi remains in Alaska missing his best friend (and love of his life) like crazy. When Leslie’s current client, Selena (former Disney child-star and now queen of romantic comedies) picks up a dangerous stalker, Leslie heads back to her Alaskan hometown to hide the starlet away. When Levi learns Leslie is back, he wonders if he might finally get his chance with Leslie, despite the painful memories the two must overcome regarding Dawson.

This was such a thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable read. I really loved the characters in this one. Levi is one of Alaska’s elite group of wildland firefighters. I totally felt for him suffering from his unrequited love for Leslie—loving her forever, and her not returning his feelings. I liked Leslie’s occupation and thought bodyguard/security detail to the stars was an interesting profession. And Selena really made the book for me. Her character added so much to the story and provided a lot of fun. The ski-resort town of Wild River, Alaska, provided a great setting. The story was emotional, cute, fun and had some sexy love scenes. Overall, this was a wonderful read.

That's it. I probably need to stop reading this series. The tropes that Snow indulges in are the worst ones for me to read about in romance books. I hate the dead best friend/brother/sister to loves trope. Just no. Stop it. And I absolutely hate the exboyfriend/girlfriend to lovers trope. My sister would kill me dead for dating and ex and vice versa. The books either have highly unrealistic reactions to said dating, or people are super okay about it. Stars Over Alaska indulges in the first trope and I was bored senseless. I was really hoping to get into the character of Leslie since she showed up in the prior book, but honestly I didn't like her throughout the book. She acted like an ass to her mother (for really dumb reasons I thought) and then acted like an ass to the star she was supposed to be protecting. The romance side of things felt forced and unrealistic.

"Stars Over Alaska" follows bodyguard Leslie Sanchez as she runs back to Wild River to hide the woman she's supposed to be protecting from a deranged stalker. Leslie thinks going back to Wild River will allow her some time to regroup. But dealing with her family and the long simmering "tension" between her dead fiancée's best friend Levi Grayson are making things more complicated than it should.

Sorry, I am literally laughing and sighing her. So first off, it makes zero sense that Leslie would go back to Wild River. She hates going back there and she won't speak to her mother. Literally when you find out what the falling out was between Leslie and her mom I was on team mom's side frankly. Also how Leslie show Selena (the former Disney childhood star now Hollywood actress) started to bug me. She saw her as being selfish and self absorbed and I maybe laughed a few times. I actually liked Selena who seemed to have a better head on her shoulders than Leslie and kept calling her out for how she was treating everyone around her. Levi and Leslie made zero sense to me. We read a lot of why Levi has always had feelings for Levi, but it was all a bit....really her after a while. Cause I didn't see anyone that I would be putting up with for longer than 10 minutes.

The big stalker plot line was a snooze for me. We have some resolution with that, but honestly, you can figure out who the stalker is in five minutes just by process of elimination.

This book was weird though since you get a bonus story in here called "A Wild River Match" and it follows Mike Toldeo who is forced to do a Valentine's Day camping trip with several potential couples. Maddie Frazier is on this trip, but only because her sister talked her into it and she's supposed to be meeting a potential match during the trip. Things go south when the guy doesn't show up and she's forced to share a tent/igloo thing with Mike who is her sister's ex-boyfriend. Of course sparks fly. I refuse to even get into the ins and outs of this story because I just shook my head and said this makes no sense like 10 times.

One thing I noticed is that this book was really the dividing line for some Wild River readers. I keep hearing eh about the latter books, so don't know if I will continue on with this series or not.

Stars over Alaska

Lesli was annoying.
I liked Selena better, and that was a person I would normally not be friends we with, so to say

Levi was perfect.

Eddie seemed like a different guy, I didn't recognized his character from the last book.

Took a long time to get into this book. Heroine annoyed me so much. Had to put this book down several times and read another book in between.

I liked Levi. He deserves a better heroine. He and the secondary character Selena (So excited that Selena will get a book too. YAY!) were the only enjoyable parts of this book. Also catching small glimpse to previous characters was nice.

My least favorite book of this series.

Leslie Sanders left Wild River when her police officer fiancé, Dawson, was hit and killed by a criminal he was chasing. She is working in LA as a protection agent and is working as a bodyguard for a young starlet, Selena, who has picked up a dangerous stalker. Fearing for her life and also that someone on the inside is giving away information, she returns to her hometown of Wild River to hide out in the family cabin. She tells no one where they are going except her boyfriend and co-worker. When the cabin burns down, she comes face to face with her best friend from her childhood as well as the best man in the wedding that was canceled. Levi is a firefighter, rescue worker and he is called out to the fire. He has had feelings for Leslie for most of his life but was happy his two best friends loved each other. Now, those feelings are about to cause complications. Is this his second chance at a relationship beyond friends with Leslie.

Stars Over Alaska is an entertaining and enjoyable story. I really liked the characters in this one, including the secondary ones. Levi is one of Alaska’s elite group of wildland firefighters, putting his life on the line and determined not to get involved with a woman. I felt bad for him and his unrequited love for Leslie. Leslie never knew how he felt about her, as he never told her. She also had feelings for him, but when he never acted like he cared about her as more than a friend, she began dating Dawson. I always like when the female characters work in professions that have long been considered male roles and do a great job. Leslie’s occupation as a bodyguard/security detail to the stars was a great job and was an important part of the story. Selena, was such a hoot. She began the story as a spoiled, whiny starlet, but she did grow and change as the story progressed. She was also very interested in getting to know people and added a lot of humor to the book. I have enjoyed the setting of Wild River and getting to know so many of the characters that lived there. There is a bit of steam in this one, but it can be skimmed if that is not your thing. Once again, Melissa Moran. narrated this audiobook and I felt her expression, tone, voice and emotions added to my enjoyment of the story. I recommend this book and series in either format.

I enjoyed this story. For the remote Alaska cabin. The best friends reconnection. The drama was a little much sometimes, but it was a fun story and I’ll have to delve into the rest of the series now. ALASKA.

Inhalt siehe Klappentext.

Content Note:
Fehlgeburt, Panikattacken, Stalking, Verlust

Meinung:

Sweet Jesus do I have STRONG FEELINGS about this book. I don't think I've ever read a romance novel that I wanted to hurl across the room quite as much as this one. It's hard to enjoy a book when you want to strangle both the main characters. I lost count of how many times I said "Leslie you BITCH" under my breath while reading this.
Yes, I get that Leslie has a lot of trauma about Dawson dying, but guess what my good bitch! Your trauma is not your fault, BUT IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. Go to therapy for fuck's sake.
Levi has his own clear attachment issues and he should have given up on Leslie a long a time ago, but he definitely should have given up after he confessed and she still kept basically using him! It was a one-sided "friendship" with Leslie taking everything and giving nothing back. You can't set yourself on fire to keep other people warm, Levi. Go to therapy.
There's just so much wrong with this from the start. Don't sleep with someone who has confessed their undying love to you and then run away again because hur dur emotions hard me immature, Leslie you manipulative bitch. It's unreasonable to expect Leslie to do the 180 that she does at the end without some serious therapy. I'd never trust her not to run away at the slightest sight of conflict since she has the emotional maturity of a 2 year old. None of this is a recipe for a healthy relationship.

5/5 🌟

Another in the Wild River series, in which Leslie Sanders is a police officer serving as a security agent for a Hollywood starlet. When her charge is threatened with a stalker, Leslie decides it's time to get out of town. She goes back to the family cabin outside Wild River, only to have the starlet burn the place down, which places her in the middle of Levi Grayson's duties as a wildlands firefighter in rural Alaska.

He's always had a thing for Leslie, but she was in love with his best friend--until the man died. Does he still have a chance with Leslie? Will he even admit his long-held feelings for her? And what about the growing attraction that Leslie can no longer ignore no matter how hard she tries?

Then there's the perceptiveness of the starlet, even when the stalker finally reveals himself. But can they escape his clutches after Leslie is knocked out and tied up? And will Levi be able to help when he's been sent to Florida to fight fires there? Exciting complications all.

Good story. Characters are the story, rather than anything in particular about Alaska. Security agent Leslie Sanders has escaped Los Angeles with her client, star Selena Hudson, whose stalker was getting closer, and exhibiting more violent tendencies, especially when he/she invaded Selena's home and ransacked her bedroom, while Selena and Leslie were there. Leslie's default action - take Selena to Leslie's family cabin in Wild River, Alaska. Leslie left in grief after her fiancee, Dawson, a state trooper, was killed in a high speed chase on their wedding day. And also in Alaska, Levi Grayson, Leslie and Dawson's best friend, who has loved Leslie as long as he's known her. Seemingly spoiled starlet, old flame, stalker, bad memories, what else can go wrong?

STARS OVER ALASKA is Jennifer Snow’s 4th book in A Wild River series and A Wild River Match is a short, sweet bonus tale about a Valentine’s Day weekend bringing two people together.

STARS OVER ALASKA is an adventurous tale about Agent Leslie Sanders needing a safe place to hide her latest client from a stalker. However, a fire at her family’s lodge brings Levi Grayson back into her life and stirs up unwanted emotions she once buried over the death of her fiancé. Ten years later, the attraction Levi felt for Leslie is stronger as ever. Could this be Levi’s last chance for love before it slips away through his fingers like smoke?

Jennifer Snow put together potful of drama, hard-to-ignore attraction, and danger in a unique Alaskan setting of this friends-to-lover troupe.

This was my first Wild River read. Not having information from the first 3 , I found this pretty hard sledding (pun intended). The only truly likeable character was Selena. Levi and Leslie futzed around for over half the book before FINALLY settling into a relationship. And by "futzed around" I mean nothing illicit. The book was bland, the conversation unrealistic, and I threatened to DNF on almost every page. I realize this was apparently a well-liked book, and I'm sorry -- I just didn't care for it.

Leslie is on the run with het client she is protecting. She goes hone to Wild River to hide out, but through many different happenings she is in hiding. She runs into her former best friend Levi. He, her and Dawson had been thick as thieves growing up..

When tragedy struck years ago Leslie left. It wasn't just her family but Levi too.

Will she let her guard down to let people in. Thanks to her client she is coming around until she dies the same shutting down again.

Loved this story and the bit of mystery!

An ok read. Grew tired of all of the drama between Leslie and Levi. Leslie fled her hometown after her fiancé died on their wedding day. Levi, the best friend to both in the trio had loved Leslie all his life. She has become a private security/ body guard to the stars and her latest client who is being stalked by a psycho. She goes to her hometown in Alaska secretly to keep her safe. Lots of emotional drama… probably won’t read this author again…

I didn’t love this one as much as the others in this series for two reasons: 1. We didn’t see as much of the former lead couples 2. I wasn’t a huge fan of Lesley as a heroine. With that being said I still really liked it. I thought Levi was so sweet and Lesley grew on me as the book progressed. I also really liked Selena and her growing friendship with Lesley.

It made me so happy that we got to see more of Kaia! I love that kid.

I found this to not be particularly memorable, but I DID find it entertaining and binged it in a day! And sometimes, that’s all you can hope for, right? We get childhood friends to lovers, small town vibes, it’s always been you, he fell first, female bodyguard, fun side characters, dealing with grief, a betrayal, and the list goes on. I found the FMC at times frustrating, but in a realistic way. There was a twist I saw coming from a mile away too. But overall, this did its job!

I will say this is one that the more I thought about, the more holes I could poke in it, but in the moment, I totally enjoyed it! This is also apparently number four in a series, so if you think you want to read and would like, maybe start at the beginning. It seems to be a series where you can read them as standalones, but you’ll get fun easter eggs and character cross-overs if you read them in order.

Stars Over Alaska is an emotional, slow-burn romance that stands out for its depth and honesty. What captured me most was the shared grief between the two main characters; the pain they both carry after losing someone they loved deeply, a friend and a fiancé. Jennifer Snow does a beautiful job showing how grief can connect people as much as it breaks them, and how healing often happens in unexpected ways.

Good story. I skipped the multi-page sex scenes. Leslie and Levi have lots of issues and we are really rooting for them. This is the only Wild River novel I have read and will not read the others since there is more grapic sex than I like. This book appeared in my Little Free Library and will return there.

I enjoyed this slow burn story. As with all the books in this series, it was a stand alone story though best read in sequence. The author has a habit of a lot of internal dialogue that gets old, but the story itself was good. Sweet with a bit of naughty, it has a few steamy scenes that add to, not detract from, the overall story line.

I love going back to Alaska in these books and this one was no exception. I enjoyed the friends to lovers one in this and the stalker mystery. It did take a little long to get started and some of the family stuff was a little long which is why I dropped a star.

Tragedy- angst-unrequited love- undiscovered love-new friendship and old. This story covered it all. Loved the Hero but the heroine was lackluster and I never saw the draw to her. The story was good for a light read.
