Breaking Down Breakups: A Guide Through the Winding Maze of Breakups

Rate this book
The emotional significance a breakup can have on an individual is vastly downplayed by modern society. Breakups are viewed as a “bummer” that need to be endured but rarely talked about. Some couples get back together and some don’t, but rarely do we gain insight into the reasons why or even how.

Dating Guy (aka “DG”) is a dating advisor on YouTube who has helped thousands of people through the mysterious winding maze of breakups. Whether you want to understand your breakup more clearly, gain closure and move on, or re-attract and reconcile with your ex, DG outlines his observations and insights from years of advising clients.

Whatever stage of the breakup you are in, DG has designed this book so that you can expand your mind and have a resource of useful tips to turn to. If you read this book from cover to cover you will likely feel differently about your situation and yourself by the end.

Chapter 1 is about understanding your relationship in the full context of your dating history; how and why you attached to your ex in the first place.

Chapter 2 is about the dumper's experience because you need to understand how your ex thinks in order to process the breakup properly and know what you are up against.

Chapter 3 is about the breakup itself, common mistakes, how it happened, how to be broken up with.

Chapter 4 is about the immediate aftermath of a breakup and why you want to chase your ex, as well as why that never helps to get your ex back.

Chapter 5 is about getting yourself back, healing from the breakup, and preparing to move on.

Chapter 6 is about taking your ex down from the pedestal so that you can recover from the breakup. There are useful tips and mental exercises to help let go of your ex here too.

Chapter 7 is about no contact, the science behind it, how no contact works, why it's the best strategy for most breakups, and why it works.

Chapter 8 is about the exceptions and situations that can happen after breakups in no contact.

Chapter 9 is about social media and breakups, what your ex is posting, blocking, what you should post and not post.

Chapter 10 is about long-distance relationships and long-distance breakups, how to get your ex back, why the breakup happened, what to do if you the distance is no longer an issue.

Chapter 11 is about being back in contact with your ex, rebounds, hot and cold behavior with your ex, if they are dating someone new, how to get your ex to meet up and the dumper's and anxieties at the time.

Chapter 12 is about reconciliation, how to deal with your ex's needs and what they need to see in order to get back together, useful tips to aid communication, build trust, forgive your ex and reconcile fully into a commitment.

It’s important to remember that although you are in the middle of a traumatic transition period of your life, that you will get through this… and you’re going to be fine.

Highly recommend DG's book and the content of his YouTube channel, for anyone going through a breakup. It's an honest insight into relationships and breakups that don't sell you false hope, or manipulative tactics. And he's a pretty funny guy too!

I had high expectations for this book because of all the positive reviews I read online and bought it even if I felt the price was a little steep for someone who has no professional background nor long impressive experience about psychology and breakups. There is sadly nothing impressive or extraordinary about the contents and if you watch his videos this is basically what he is saying in those videos in written format. It was a forgettable read and I have no regrets not finishing it. While reading this, it does not feel like a self help guide but a sappy pity party / "woe is me" book.

Highly recommended for help understanding the thoughts behind both the dumper and dumpee and showing the shared experiences among so many relationships. However, the end of the book is less helpful and ill-fitted with advice on how to manipulate your ex as the dumpee in hopes of getting back with them.

Comforting book when going through a breakup. However, the book reflects far too much from the dumpees perspective and plan's to get back with the ex. He does mention acceptance, but this is shadowed by the step by step plan to get you former partner back. Despite these, I still reccomend this book for those going through a breakup so long as they don't get too sucked into the plot to get back with their ex.
