She has had a varied career including successfully working as a jazz singer and over 25 years of experience in the fields of:

This book is so helpful. I have been struggling with anxiety since I became a stay at home mom. The book doesn't give you the secret to the universe but questions to help you figure out the reason your not feeling centered. My favorite quote from Ms. Taylor is:
"If you stay at home worried about being rejected, you will never develop the muscle that eventually allows you to shrug your shoulders and say "Hey your loss.""

Super book! Quick read with great info on coping strategies that are simple enough for kids to use. Highly recommend to anyone who struggles with stress, anxiety, and fear!

Trish Taylor’s initial plan was to write a book on happiness but through her research, she discovered that the greatest impediment to happiness was fear. Thus, a new book concept was formed. Why Am I Scared? takes us on a journey of fear and offers numerous solutions on how to overcome our fears and anxieties.

Many aspects of the book resonated with me, like the idea that most of our fears are of mundane things—not being liked, offending someone, or making a mistake. I truly believe, as the author eloquently stated, worrying rarely helps. Instead, it adds energy to that which you fear. I appreciated the stories and analogies offered, like relating fear to reading a horror story—the fear is often in our heads.

The book challenged me to contemplate things like whether I miss out on good times because I’m focused on things that could or might happen. Solutions Taylor offers align well with the Law of Attraction. Instead of hating how you look or how you feel, which puts out negative vibrations, Taylor suggests focusing on aspects that you like. This puts out positive vibrations and attracts more of the same. There is practical information offered on how to address one’s fears in the workplace, fears about abundance, health, relationships, and many other topics.

Techniques Taylor covers to work through fears include: meditation, visualization, affirmations, Thought Field Therapy (TFT) and Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT.) These are tools we can use to deal with fear, anxiety and any other negative emotions. I found the tapping technique particularly interesting and plan to give it a try. It combines acupressure with psychology and has proven successes with people and animals.

Why Am I Scared? is an easy, enjoyable, and empowering read. I recommend it for anyone who is looking for helpful nuggets of information and useful tools to enhance his or her life.

The ultimate guide to positive thinking

This book is a home run. There is a wealth of information and techniques designed to mitigate stress, anxiety and of course actual fear. The author provides engaging stories and insight based on personal experiences and adventures on multiple continents. A must read even if you think you aren’t afraid of anything at all!!

I very much enjoyed this compilation of strategies for overcoming our fears. Many of the solutions the author presented were ones I was familiar with or had at least heard of (mediation, EFT and visualization were a few mentioned techniques), but I hadn't necessarily associated them with overcoming fear and anxiety and the author did a great job showing how they can do just that. And the narration on this was excellent, authors aren't always good narrators, but Trish Taylor definitely is. It was like listening to a friend share advice they truly believed in or that had worked for them, she was conversational and heartfelt. I plan on getting the Kindle version of this so that I have a print version to reference as well as listening to this again in the future.

This non-fiction, self-help book is articulate and well written
The author addresses specific points of why we are afraid and the many reasons for our angst. She uses her own fears to make suggestions for coping with these everyday occurrences. As a writer myself, the part regarding procrastination made me smile, when she said she avoids knuckling down to writing by doing housework. I’m just the opposite, I avoid boring household chores by locking myself away and writing.
The content devotes time explaining how we can cope with our fears by tapping on various parts of the body, a practice which seems odd and I’m yet to try. However, the book is interesting, informative and well worth a read. 5 worthy stars.

LOVED this! This author shares her personal experience and professional training with fear-conquering tips and techniques. While she does differentiate between "fear" and "anxiety", I wish she would have made her professional credentials more apparent sooner. Until I discovered them in the last section, I kinda thought she was just another schmuck with a book. Knowing that she believes in her methods enough to pursue higher education specific to the things she has written about is important to me. I will definitely be checking out her YouTube channel.

Really enjoyed this book, with straight forward advice and techniques that are easy to use in day to day life.

I bought this after a bout of bad anxiety and the low price point. Well, then I got on medication and I forgot about this book.

But I was searching through my Kindle library and found it again, despite not having as many issues with fear. It was easy to read so I kept going.

I love the way Taylor writes. It's not snobbish or too professional, it really feels like you're having a conversation and she's talking directly to you, as a normal, humorous person.

The first half of the book is personal stories that Taylor has experienced or from people she knows. I'm a sucker for diary-like stories so I really enjoyed the relatable stories. Then the last (less than) half of the book is direct new techniques to try out. I can't say she convinced me to start tapping on my head in a specific order, but it was enjoyable to read nonetheless.

This could really use a clarification of anxiety vs. fear however. She says in the beginning that this is about fear, not anxiety. But yet majority of her examples seem to be about anxiety. So maybe I just don't understand the difference in definition - she could've clarified at the beginning.

There is an overlying spiritualist message that may not resonate with everyone, such as plenty of talk about the universe interacting with you or energies: "A decision to not do something is still a decision. Leaving things as they are when you are unhappy sends a message to the universe that you do not want change." and "So why do we buy cheap junk when we can afford better? It’s fear— fear of running out of money, of being ripped off, of not being able to afford something else. When we overcome our scarcity mindset, we attract more of what we want. Money is a commodity, an energetic force that we can use for good or not- so- good outcomes. Like love, happiness or friendship, it can be abundant if we don’t hold on to it too tightly. We need to enjoy it, share it, love it and allow it to flow."

Though at the same time, she is forthcoming about how some people may find it to be too spiritualistic, "Even though this is probably a load of bullshit, I will give it a try and I know I will be OK."

The bad thing is, much of this book is probably already common knowledge for anyone who has done 10 minutes of Googling on mental health. But the good thing is, she still provides some interesting new information, such as the tapping technique. Or new ways to think about old mental health tricks: "If you didn’t call it meditation and thought of it as time with yourself and your thoughts, how would that be?" and "We must give our mind instructions just as we must give the GPS a destination. Our mind wants to know what our destination is and needs a reasonably accurate address." and "Imagine they have a sign over their head that says, “Please love me, no one else does”. People often behave badly because they are in emotional pain. If you can see them as more vulnerable and human, they become less scary." Not exactly new ideas, but certainly new and interesting ways to think about them.

I do worry about if she just wrote a book for the sake of writing a book, as she even says herself she had to force herself to keep writing and get over the fear. But some pages and topics feel added in just to up the word count. There are a couple topics that only last 2 paragraphs, or are simply just a list. The topics are quite all over the place, such as a random section about how to not be poor, but I guess I can see how this relates to fear.

So overall I enjoyed reading and it gave me new ways to look at some mental health ideas. But I can't say I would recommend this book over other self-help books out there. She does give an interesting recommend reading list though.

One last interesting fact I learned from this book: "James Dyson, inventor of the innovative Dual Cyclone vacuum cleaner. He spent years making numerous prototypes and modifications before he found the one that worked best. In interviews Dyson claims in total he had 5,126 failures before he succeeded on number 5,127."

I see that I’m in the minority here, but I didn’t feel this book provided anything new or especially enlightening. Most of the book seemed to focus on the author’s own fears and struggles. I only found myself able to relate to a small portion of the book. Even still, I ALWAYS take notes and leave having gained something. Here’s one of my favorite takeaways:
Why do we procrastinate and put off what we really want to do? Because we can only fail if we actually begin. Starting something new means trading in the safety of languishing in our own comfort zone for the potential of success. Sometimes we’re afraid we’re not good enough before we even try, but we need to fail along the way in order to learn and progress.

Every review I have read seems to imply that the reader loved this book and I wanted to love it too, but I was only able to like it.

Encouraging with some good technics for helping one overcome their fears, but most of it seemed like things I have read before. That is not to say the book is not informative, just more of a same if you have read other books on the subject.

I was given this free copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Good book. Easy read. But the first half of the book seemed to drag with long chapters not saying much with a lot of examples. The end of the book were shorter chapters with less examples. Continuity would be key here.
