The term “wealth management” doesn’t only apply to wealthy people.
You don’t have to be wealthy to start managing wealth; you can start growing it now from right where you stand. Too many people don’t understand the roles and responsibilities of financial advisors or financial planners and therefore fail to take advantage of opportunities to grow their wealth.
Some financial advice books are too complicated, and others are a little too basic, but this book aims to give you the tools and education to think properly about your money, to identify who should be on your financial team, and to offer insights into what each of them should deliver.
Wealth management can be complicated, but it doesn’t have to be. Echo Huang is a rare find when it comes to wealth management. She advocates for more women to get into the wealth management industry as well as for people to start financial planning at much younger ages. In her book, you’ll discover:
· How to simplify financial planning · How to create your financial independence day · 5 Steps to bullet proof your investment portfolio · How to create a money management dream team · Tax strategies, estate planning, long term care and charitable giving strategies that generate more wealth for you · What things to think about if you are an immigrant managing your portfolio in the U.S.
Own Your Future is the story of how a poor immigrant came to live the American dream and how you can too. It’s a story of dreams manifested as a result of the guidance offered by the author’s seven core principles: daring to dream, being adaptable, respecting education, setting goals, utilizing smart and deliberate planning to achieve success, seizing opportunities when they arise, and benefiting from the wisdom of others.
Based on the author’s twenty-five years of experience in the trenches, not just of investment management but also of private and public accounting, this book educates the reader about wealth management and offers useful tools that can be used to make our financial lives more organized.
Echo Huang pulls back the curtain on the wealth management profession as a whole and shows you how to make it work for you, as well as whom and what to trust, who should be on your team, and how they should be working together in a holistic way to help you reach your financial independence day.

Own Your Future is an extension of a wealth management blog by the author, certified financial planner (CFP) Echo Huang. Within the book’s pages, Huang tells of her childhood in a Chinese village so poverty-stricken that she and her family lacked running water. An abiding belief in the importance of education, she writes, was her first step towards success. She quotes Malcom X: “Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.” Huang also strongly advises readers to establish certain guiding principles, including maintaining adaptability, setting goals, and seizing opportunities. She speculates that some lack of financial self-control may be due to hyperbolic discounting, or the preference for small payoffs now as opposed to larger ones later. Her solutions to this are saving for retirement and making investments, both as early as possible. I enjoyed this book immensely. It provided reader-friendly financial advice in the form of a literal rags-to-riches story. After finishing it, I feel more informed in my financial decisions, and I highly recommend it.
Informative and enlightening. A wonderful story of someone who came from China with very little and took advantage of every opportunity to become successful in the financial field. I particularly enjoyed the sections on Behavioral Biases, Long-Term Care and Charitable Giving. This book is written in a easy to understand way and makes for enjoyable reading. I feel like I came away with a lot of useful information and ideas. I won this book in a GoodReads Giveaway. I hope you will pick up a copy and enjoy it as much as I have done.
I read Echo’s blog about charitable giving and I was blown away by the concept that I could be donating to charity the wrong way. I saw she wrote a book so I bought it! Just by following her instructions on creating a financial dashboard and calculating my risk number, I feel so much more confident in my financial positions and that I’m going to be able to retire when I want to. I recommend reading Echo's book if you want to take control of your financial freedom.
Own Your Future: One Women's Story of Immigration and Financial Freedom by Echo Huang is not just another book on personal finance and achieving financial goals. Not only is it an uncomplicated look at setting monetary goals but is penned from a unique author and her perspective.
This author is an individual who knows what it's like to be without the comforts of modern society, growing up in a poor village in the People's Republic of China, and as a result of her experience, hard work, and self-control she has achieved her own financial goals and now professionally advising others.
And so the writing begins with the reality of her life and learning and she shares that experience with the reader. She then builds on her success and experience by informing that management and accumulation of wealth is not complicated. She also delves into how individuals behave and respond to money and specifically encourages the reader to not give up the rewards of the accumulation of money but to delay the satisfaction that accumulated wealth can bring.
Added to the mix are new and informative and useful ideas about financial planning.
A few of the topics include steps towards a financial investment plan, tax strategies, estate planning, long-term care, charitable giving, etc. Of particular interest are "tips and tricks" that will empower the reader.
Also, an intriguing teaching of the book is the 8,000-day plan…very interesting.

Own your future is a great finance book that gave me a lot to think about. It wasn’t like any other typical finance book with the jargon that would go over your head. Each chapter had a lot of practical financial advice with the perfect amount of emotional investment. Starting from author’s personal experience and how she achieved all to giving hope, courage and motivation to every women around the world. The 7 guiding principles and how one story leads to the next principle is remarkable. I was especially able to relate to the “Overcoming Behavioral Biases” chapter since it describes various personalities when it comes to taking financial risks and decisions. I learned a lot of new terms, plans and differences between various types of accounts/funds. The chapters are divided perfectly into several sectors of financial planning. Being from an Asian country, I understand the author’s intentions in motivating women to be independent and capable of taking care and interest in financial planning. My mom being a homemaker always wanted me to work hard and be financially independent instead of depending on a man and we both are pretty satisfied today with my financial situation. I still have a lot to learn and implement what I have learned from this book, since I am still in the early phase of my career.
An astounding and painstakingly detailed approach to personal and financial success.
This fascinating book not only describes the astonishing journey of a woman's life that began in a small village of Communist China and continued in America as a highly qualified and experienced personal financial advisor, but it also incorporates her journey into a set of principles that she used to plan her life. In this book Own Your Future: One Woman’s Story of Immigration and Financial Freedom, the author shared important things and advices on how to become financially independent in your own ways. It emphasized how one shouldn’t be rich in the first place in order to gain wealth, but just doing the right choices and decisions. I love books like this because nowadays, it is very essential to really do the right thing when it comes to money matters. The author was able to pull up straight-forward tips on how to manage finances. I know that by reading this book I could really make use of it no matter what my projects are in the future.
Most people get intimidated when they hear the term “wealth management”. However, the author of this book wants to show you that it is something for everyone, not just those who are rich. Striking the best balance between simple and complicated information, Mrs. Huang structured the book to cover multiple areas: how to simplify your financial planning and create your investment portfolio. How to determine different strategies and whether you can combine them to better suit your needs. One section that many books do not cover, is how to manage your portfolio, if you are an Immigrant and have a different structure, or view on how money should be managed. I liked that the author reached back on her experiences, both personal and professional to showcase the information. She had an easy to read writing style, and I really liked that part about immigrants as I am one myself and some of the American ways of managing money make no sense to me. This is an interesting book with a wide target audience.

Migration and financial stability are tricky steps. Some people migrate to have a better life and seek better economic opportunities. After becoming a migrant, I realized that the dream we imagine is not as easy as we think. On my journey to better understand how to balance my financial future, I discovered this book. Echo Huang is an amazing writer. She effectively convinces the reader to take action and learn how to navigate the complexities of financial planning. What I liked most about her book is that she shares her experiences and lessons learned. Through her actions and insights, she provides useful tips and strategies. This approach is completely different from other books on financial freedom that I’ve read. I appreciate that she truly understands the value of context, particularly for migrant populations, and how challenging it can be to adapt to new economies and begin creating wealth. You will learn a lot from her and value her knowledge and experience. Give yourself the chance to read it and understand that, as a migrant, you can succeed.
Stories that portray women as main characters are my favourite and this one has just stolen my heart.
Echo Huang is a Chinese immigrant and writer of “Own your Future”. She courageously left her country and faced the world, and this book is just a glimpse at her bold and fearless life.
The book focuses on Huang's financial advice. The suggestions she provides are clear and sound. Most importantly, they are real because they have been written by the sole main character of the story, by the writer in first person.
But this book is not just that - behind the guides, options and steps, there is an inspiring view from a woman’s incredible story.
I have learnt that, as someone once said, if there is a will, there is a way. This is why I recommend women to read this book.

There is nothing more pleasant in learning something that will accompany us for the rest of our lives, especially if it is as important as the science of finance. I am a woman, so this book blew me away. It filled me with new and fresh energy, and inspired me to do great things without being afraid. This is the story of how a poor immigrant came to live the American dream and how we can do it too. The author, Echo Chan, describes all paths in an exquisite way, because she is the main character of the story. I could learn a lot of her seven core principles, and I can apply them in my daily life too. I would have liked that some issues have a bit of more development. Without hesitation, I would recommend this book for those who have dreams to follow, and support on resilience, vision and wisdom.
This is a simple, easy-to-follow and practical book about money management written by Echo Huang, a professional world class investment advisor. I really enjoyed reading this book as the author combines her knowledge, anecdotes and experiences with some useful principles and effective tools to learn how to handle and manage your money properly. I really liked it as her message is not only clear and concise but also encouraging and motivating. Sometimes it is hard for women to become independent and confident when it comes to money management. Yet, Echo Huang provides useful and realistic tips to achieve my goals successfully. 5 stars to this amazing book!
What caught my attention right away was that it was written by a woman, the majority of books I found in the past were all written by men. I think it is a great way to emphasize women's representation.
Another thing I liked was how Echo Huang makes a point on how important it is to be present and connected to the decisions and choices we have to make along the way. They are key to achieving financial independence.
I found this guide to be very informative and inspiring for me and I think every woman out there wants to take control of their wealth, so this is a great book to have at hand.
Own Your Future: One Woman’s Story of Immigration and Financial Freedom written by Echo Huang is a very interesting and inspirational read. I agree with the author’s idea that although wealth management should not be difficult, it always seems to be a hard thing to accomplish. It is inspiring to read about the story of an immigrant who could live the American dream; something so wanted by many. Apart from that, the author shows all her knowledge in the field and I can say that I learnt many things I did not know about wealth management. It was interesting and well explained. I recommend reading it.
Interesting and readable book about wealth management, with a focus on getting women into this field, which is such a nice and necessary goal. And it's rare that I enjoy when the author talks about their childhood and the things that led them to where they are today, but I did enjoy this author's telling of growing up in a poor village in the People's Republic of China. This is a good book to read if you want to learn how to best handle your money, told in a relatable and easy to understand way, with plenty of anecdotal stories and examples of clients' experiences, which always help to drive the message home for me.
This author's method is really very convincing. I think we tend to get stuck in our personal finances because on one hand, we don't know where to start and on the other, we get too tangled when we want to do it. Well, this book makes it clear that financial planning should not be tedious or a challenge full of complexities.
In short, the tools it has given me in terms of financial planning are invaluable and very easy to apply, in fact I started to use them during the reading, which motivated me more and more to continue and continue reading. Several times, I went back over the pages because the usefulness is clear.
It is incredible how in 216 pages, Huang, the author of this great book, takes the reader through a path where she explains how you can get control of your finances. There are 11 chapters, ranging from the easiest to the most complex, which explain how you can achieve good financial security, with terms and explanations that are easy to understand. It is a reading loaded with realism, because in the first two chapters, the author shares how was her life in China and how was her arrival to America, and founded a wealth management company. In addition, it can be considered an inspirational book, which shows that, with order, tenacity and desire, dreams can be fulfilled.
Echo Huang’s story really shows how determination and hard work can help someone overcome tough challenges. What I really like about the book is how it emphasizes the power of education. It’s clear that learning and growing in knowledge opened so many doors for her, and it shows how education can truly change lives. The book also stresses the importance of financial independence, which is such a powerful tool for anyone who wants to take control of their future. By giving practical tips on budgeting, saving, and investing, Echo Huang shows that financial freedom isn’t just a dream, it’s something you can work towards with the right mindset and skills.
First of all, I really love the author’s story about how she was able to basically go from nothing to a very wealthy individual. She has a lot of education under her belt and I learned a lot from her. I think the first growing principal of daring to dream can be a good lesson for those of us who have a lack mindset instead of a growth mindset. But don’t stop there, there are so many steps to follow to get to where you want to be financially, and I really feel like everything was explained clearly and concisely. For me, it’s all about baby steps, but I am slowly growing through the process. Great book!
Own Your Future is an empowering and refreshingly clear guide for anyone looking to take control of their finances, especially immigrants navigating the U.S. system. Blending personal storytelling with professional expertise, Huang demystifies complex financial concepts without talking down to the reader. Her five-step investment approach is practical and easy to follow. As I was just starting and seeking financial freedom, this book offered me the motivation and tools to truly own my financial future.
I found Echo Huang’s story to be very impowering. What I like the most about this book is Huang’s recommendation of adaptability and continuous learning in both career and life choices. I plan to give this book to my granddaughter because it offers a comprehensive blueprint for long-term financial success. Also, I found the chapter on estate planning to be exceptionally informative and beneficial, particularly as someone who is retired. I think this book gives financial information that caters to all ages. Highly recommended to everyone of any age.
