It was August 1st 2002 when Sally Watson was murdered inside her home. She was the first victim of the soon-to-be infamous killer known as the Jinx. The series of murders were horrifically violent and tragic- but they also made for good reading. They practically launched Debbie Harris’ career in journalism. But, like all celebrities, the Jinx developed a warped and twisted fan base.

Fearing for her daughter Jamie’s safety, Debbie took her and ran away to the quiet village of Little Ivywood. It was the perfect hiding place…or at least it was until Jamie, now seventeen and a mother, finds herself the object of desire of a brand-new killer. Everyone close to her is now either a suspect or a potential victim— but who can she turn to for help when even the police seem unable to stop a killer who can seemingly appear anywhere in the village without being seen?

Little Ivywood’s teens are dropping like flies and it becomes a race for survival. They’ll have to use all their wits and cunning if they want to expose the killer and make it out alive…

I basically suspected every character at one point or another as being the killer and still ended up being shocked by the twists in the end! It wasn’t predictable at all.
Definitely would recommend for slasher movie/horror fans!

After Jamie's mother covered the Jinx killer they moved to a small town outside of London to escape the threats. Now, years later a copycat has found their town of Little Ivywood and is targeting Jamie's friends and anyone who poses an issue to her. If this new killer, who calls themselves the Curse, follows the same MO as the Jinx then Jamie will be the final girl. Can she or the police find this terror before she and many more lose their lives?
I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. I love murder mystery books, shows, and movies so this book was enjoyable for me.

While I enjoyed the book I'm so used to American processes that the fact that a serial killer that is obviously mimicking a prior serial killer not resulting in FBI joining the investigation is foreign to me. I don't know if other countries have similar processes, but with as much as the author seemed to like the tv show criminal minds I am sure they are somewhat familiar with the concept. I can't imagine other countries wouldn't have something in place. A contingency plan of sorts. Especially since serial killers aren't isolated to just America.

The characters were fine in the book and while I guessed who was behind the murder's the author did a good job of trying to shuffle blame in other directions. While I'm always happy to be wrong on who I think did it there is a certain degree of satisfaction in getting it right. This book was a mix of young adult and murder mystery. The young adult aspect being the fact that the victims are teenagers. All 17 to 18.

I don't have a favorite character in the book, but if any other books by this author are similar to this one I would be willing to read more. Definitely not an author I didn't enjoy the writings of, which does unfortunately happen from time to time.

gritty horror

Hush is a horror story with several twists and turns.
Jamie is a teenager still at school, though she is also a young mother. Her mother is a famous journalist who broke the story of a mass murderer several years earlier. Now with new identities in a small town, they are both living simple lives. Unfortunately, life is about to take a dangerous turn when a young girl is murdered and the citizens become victims to a copy-cat. Or is it the original murderer?
I loved watching Jamie as she grew into a determined and strong protagonist. The killer is malevolent and dangerous. As I said, there are several twists in the story that sends the reader down many false roads that switch back and u-turn, so just when you think you’ve got it sussed, something happens that makes you gasp in surprise.
This story has the same feel as a horror movie, in that the author seems to be a fan of the genre, so has some of the same trope’s (silly female characters that do stupid things when danger is just around the corner). Nevertheless, this story is full of strongly realistic characters that bring the story to life.
I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this book even though I am not generally a fan of horror. I look forward to reading more of this author’s work.
Disclaimer: Although I helped edit this book in its early stages, it has been over a year since I laid eyes on the manuscript. Therefore, I couldn’t remember the whole story precisely. I later purchased this book when it was first released, but have only recently had chance to read it once more.
