Many dark points and triggers for some. The triggers would be the abuse that Ember suffered at the hands of Samuel. She talked about what he did to her and what he did at night when he went into her room (he didn’t touch her but he did something else) she also talked about what her mother went through at the hands of this guy. Right kind of dark, action and romance for me.
Ember is a mafia princess, her father was the Boss from before she was born until she went to college. She has only one best friend Liz (possibly might have her own book) and two guys Anton and Maddox that could be like brothers to her even when their are a pain in the butt. But her biggest pain is Nixon who shows his real person in the dead of night hidden in the dark, but when the light of days comes up so does the (at the time) underboss but also even as a Boss.
Nixon is holding the underground on his shoulders at a young age when Ember’s father passed him the title of Boss and his priority is Ember. After reading a letter from his father (that was killed years prior) Embers safety became top priority over the underground.
Ember’s past is letting himself be known and she’s the target of the crazy man and he’ll will pull a stunt that will be his downfall. Will Ember get her closure of her past and see justice served or will he slip away again?? Will Nixon and Ember get past their stubbornness to get their relationship on course that he was so desperate to keep her away from??

DNF @27% I gave up on this one because the writing was really basic, the plot super unoriginal and I absolutely could not see any of the male MC's as "alpha" or as crime bosses.

Wow! This book enthralled me from the start, so much so that once I started, I continued reading until the end in just one sitting. Ember and Nixon were friends from the time Ember was a child despite the difference in their ages. Ember's father was a mafia boss, and Nixon's father was his second, both fathers hoped that the day would come when their children would marry each other. Nixon was Ember's confident and protector, many times in the dead of night; the pair would raid the kitchen and talk of their hopes and dreams, both knowing that their future together was waiting until the time was right. In some ways, it was harder for Ember than it was for Nixon. After the death of Nixon's father, Nixon took his place in the organization, and eventually became the Boss when Ember's father retired due to ill health. Ember left for college, and things between them became distant as Nixon took on the responsibility of running the organization. It was in her final week of college that a threat to Ember's life became known, and Nixon vowed to protect her with his life. A specter from the past raises his head, and the time has come to pay for his sins. This book was a complex story that slowly revealed hidden pain in Ember's past, and the conclusion to this story was everything a reader could desire. This book is a book with a storyline I will treasure for the enjoyment it gave and the eventual happy ending.

Great story line and plot with action, suspense and some twists and turns. Ember is a strong easy going mature young woman who takes mob business in stride and she has been in love with Nixon for years, even though he has ignored her for the past 6 years. Nixon has always protected Ember and loved her, and has always shown her his nice side, but now things have gotten serious and he needs to show her the tough, vicious side of him. I loved how Nixon showed her the Mafia boss side but only aimed at someone trying to hurt her. Nixon and Ember has amazing chemistry, and I loved how he tried to fight it by being abrupt with her. Great story line, great character development with steamy mafia chemistry. A must read.

Honestly wanted to love this book but just couldn't. In the starting I found the female lead's knowledge and understanding refreshing as most of the female leads are written running away from their own safety put ups but it came down to this exactly, her attitude was just too calm, too submissive like taking everything in without any reaction. ALWAYS accepting, dude I mean seriously!? Be angry, fight! There was one scene, the bed one in which her all too accepting attitude seriously pissed me off (you will see if you decide to read it). The writing wasn't anything special and I know that is okay and it's totally on me at that part because I feel like I have read so many better books with so much unique things and different storyline. This was just your everyday thing that happens in these kind of books.

Nixon has loved Ember and was her protector since she was a child. He knew someday she would belong to him. But like pieces in a game of chess, changes needed to be made to the hierarchy in the world they both lived in and secrets had to be revealed. The reader gets glimpses of the harder side of Nixon, but for the most part this book deals with the sweet romance that has been building between them. I loved how Ember was included in some decisions and her thoughts and opinions were never downplayed as irrelevant. Watching Ember deals with the past and with the future of the family and sets up for future books for the secondary characters.

My first book by this author and im hooked. this is the mafia romance story of Ember and Nixon. Embers life is dull and boring even with her family being mafia but the excitement she needs in her life is nothing compared to what she gets when some one starts to come after her an the only person who can protect her if Nixon. This is a captivating read with a great story line and engaging characters.

J.B. Reding did a great job on this story. Watching Ember had a well written plot. Nixon and Ember were strong characters, their journey was a tad bumpy but they were good together.
Nixon was very protective when it came to Ember, he would have done anything for her, she was his world.
The connection was strong between them, their chemistry was off the charts, they were made for each other. I enjoyed this story, it was good.

This book was outstanding! This is the first book I've read by author J B Reding but I will be reading more in the near future! I couldn't put my kindle down for a second. Nixon King and Ember Lane were great characters. This book told the complicated love story of Nixon and Ember. They had blazing hot chemistry. Kudos go out to the author on a well-written mafia romance! This book is a must read and I highly recommend!

This is my first time reading anything from this author. It’s a mafia-based romance and the first book in a series, that means there are going to be subjects that may be triggers for some readers. This story centers on Ember and Nixon who are drawn to each other whether they like it or not. It’s an enjoyable read and I’m looking forward to more in the series.

This was one of the best stories I’ve read this year. The subtle nuances playing behind the scenes of the storyline were fascinating as they were felt but even more so when they were revealed. Nixon was awesome in his strong but formidable character. She was strong as well given her upbringing and the things she’s gone through. I loved the suspense and drama. I enjoyed reading this book with its beautiful love story.

Loved the book it was great, the story was well written and the characters are interesting. Ember is a mafia Princess, she is a strong woman, she had gone through abuse when younger, and then her father died so Nixon kept her close to him. Nixon and Ember the chemistry is hot, there is secrets, pain, twists, suspense, passion and love.

Watching Ember by J.B. Reding. I’m happy to say that this is a new author for me and I was pleased with this story. Dark mafia type drama that moves a good pace with plenty of action, suspense, passion, and charismatic characters. Story touches on a few trigger subjects but ends with a nice HEA. Watching Ember is the first book in the Monsters Series and focuses on Ember Lane, daughter of a crime boss, and Nixon King, who has been protecting her since he has been in love with her since he was young. This well written book was hard to put down with its suspense, drama, twists, and sizzling chemistry.

Finally a good Mofia HEA
Happy to report this is a great read. Easy to follow, engaging and the character actions seem realistic to their age and maturity level. Excited for book two.
