Their Tygress

Rate this book
Three tiger princes find their lost princess, and they’re never letting her go…

Exhausted after a double shift at the diner, Kimber Leigh falls asleep in her crappy apartment, only to wake up on a strange planet surrounded by huge, ferocious tigers.

They’re licking her awake and purring as if they found a delicious treat. Turning into a tiger snack was not on her to-do list today, but they don’t hurt her.

Instead they start talking, and things really get weird.

Doing her best not to freak out, she listens to the tigers’ tale about their world, Dhalmaria, and the four tribes of Tygers. Each tiger is a prince of his tribe, and they believe she’s the lost princess of the fourth tribe. Which is certainly ridiculous, because she’s human. Isn’t she?

When the tigers shift into three gorgeous men determined to claim their lost Tygress, she may never wake up from this fantastic dream.

Because they’re never letting her go…

This was too short and didn't have the depth of the Vampire Queen series. The story isn't even complete because it doesn't get to the part where the FMC takes on the role that was destined for her -- uniting the four tribes and overthrowing their rival alien race, the Sitti. There's no explanation as to how they were expected to do that, also no explanation of how the three Prime princes survived when the Sitti had killed every Prime they could find. The princes live in that huge treefall house, it's surely pretty easy to find and really obvious, sticking out like a sore thumb among the landscape? That doesn't sound like they're in hiding. Basically I felt like everything in this story moved too fast and it was disappointing that the author ended the story where it did instead of completing the whole concept.

It's hard to find short story's with unique premises and the plot in this story was different.

In it we have a young woman who wakes on a strange planet where three tiger shifters claim that she is the last prime alpha Tigress. Naturally she had never shifted into a giant tiger and had a lot of trouble believing them.

While the Tiger princes try to convince her they tell her about the struggle on thier world and why she was sent into hiding on Earth.

Eventually she accepts her role as the last Tigress and that she needs to mate with at least one of these Tiger princes and continue the Prime line.

Now this is where the story went sideways for me. Our girl says she can't choose between the three of them and they all decide to become her mate. But she has no trouble choosing who get's to have sex with her first and, at least in the book, she only actually has sex with that one Tiger prince that she chose. It's one of those rare RH novels where you think that she could actually choose and be happy with one guy.

Also, the premise of the story in that the prime line is dieing out and the three guys and her are the last of the primes and they need to continue the line. From very early in the story it became clear that if she claimed all three guys the next generation of primes would all be related and then could not have more Prime Alphas unless they decide to go the route of incest.

Basically this story would have worked better if it was not a Reverse Harmen. I would have loved it if it hadn't been made a RH.

This one wasn't really a hit for me. I guess it's mainly the fact that we get the HEA, after only 50 pages or so... I would've prefered a second or even third short story after this one, to see the characters and their relationships evolve.

Despite this, I'm not going under 3 stars, because I still enjoyed it =)

Tyger tyger burning bright

(Honestly, the 3 stars are simply for the brevity, not the content.)

Kimber woke up next to fur and fangs. Not how she had gone to sleep, so that was a little confusing. But not as confusing as those tigers talking to her. Hunger will leave you in a weird head space sometimes but this one is all new to her. Especially when they mention she's royalty. What? Is there a way to never wake up? Because losing this dream may be the final straw.

Spoilers ahead.
I loved her Isador series. Some of the follow up books in the series were ok. I didn't enjoy them as much but I think that's because you invest yourself in 6 strong books of the same characters and then the later ones are smaller and focused elsewhere. So, I hesitated before grabbing this one. But, while a lot shorter, it brings back that feel of Queen Takes Knights. A new world, new beings, new abilities, and new relationships. The world building is scant but it doesn't feel lacking, just exploratory on behalf of Burkhart. Like she's sounding out the readers to see if investigating in it is worth it. I hope she decides to do so. I want to know how the tygers speak. I want to learn about the various crystals. I want to see the tygers take back their home. And I want to learn more about Kimber and the princes that I can't name currently lol. I'm horrible with names. K, M and D are all I can remember. Some parts move quickly and I'd like to learn if that's because of the tyger half running things. I'm hoping, even though it wasn't mentioned, that there's a plan to remove the S... Ack, whoever the aliens are that are destroying their world. But I'm intrigued. Her characters are captivating as always and the editing nailed down. So, bring on the tygers, as Kimber said lol.

Holy cats! I LOVE this novella. This is a fantasy/sci-fi, reverse harem romance. It has some of my absolute favorite things: tigers and trees. If that wasn't enough, well, there's a sweet and spicy story with one female Tygress and three Tygers. I love how it feels a bit like Alice in Tigerland, with Kimber waking up in a strange world. It also feels a lot like the Their Vampire Queen series, but instead of a lost aima queen, there's a lost Prime Alpha.

I wish this was longer, but I'm guessing that there will be more to Kimber's story. I felt like I only got a taste, and I'm starving! I want to see Dharius, Marak, and Kazhar woo the heck out of Kimberly. I want to learn about the world of Dhalmaria. I need to explore the treefall(s) and more tree houses! I'm intrigued by the tiger shifting aliens, too. What kind of stuff can they do? Will they be like tigers on Earth, with the ability to freeze others with a wall of sound? (Yes, I'm a huge tiger geek.)

The Tygers mention the villains, the Sitti, but they're more a phantom menace in this story. Will they cause more problems for the Tygers? How can this fabulous quad defeat the enemy?

I am so excited to see more! Hopefully there will be another story soon.

Burkhart has a definite feminist point of view, and matching it with an undeniable talent to describe characters, she's been unstoppable. This is my first non-Queen story of hers, and she doesn't stray from her roots. While the world building is done skilfully, it's her characters that dominate in this paranormal story about a young woman who discovers she is more than human.

Burkhart plays on a delicious thought with her Kimber character-one we have all wished before at one point or another. What if we were special? Different? Meant for more than your average waitress job that was going nowhere? After wondering if it was all a dream, she has to decide what to do next. Go home to nothing, or stay with three gorgeous men and help rule a kingdom? Easy decision? Maybe.

This seems like only the beginning to an epic not yet written. Kimber has the makings of being another strong female character in Burkhart's arsenal...just waiting for her future to fall into the pages.

Story left wide open and unfinished...

This was a quick read..about 66 pages with an incomplete, abrupt ending. I thought maybe this would be a prequel to a new series; I was sadly mistaken.

If you're familiar with the author's Vampire Queen series like I am, you eagerly await the release of each new book. They are truly a pleasure to read. That's why I didn't hesitate reading this story. But I was disappointed.

This story started out with a strong female who wakes up surrounded by three tigers on another planet. It turns out that she's the lost Princess who's supposed to mate with the three remaining Princes (the tigers) in order to defeat their enemy and continue the Royal bloodline with each tribe.

But she's too afraid to believe that its not a dream. Afraid that she'll wake up back on Earth alone. Once she believes her mates, they have sex, then she shifts into a tiger. That's how it the book ends.

I expected more.

I haven’t read tons by this author, mainly Their Vampire Queen series. She is swiftly becoming one of my favourite authors, though. Their Tygress is a complete, short story with a happy ending. This one is about Kimber, who goes to sleep in St. Louis and wakes up on a different world surrounded by talking tigers. She has to find out whether their history is her lost one. I really enjoyed this short story. It was heartfelt in a lot of ways without being too heavy, and happy endings are never a bad thing. I would have for there to be a bit MORE. It was a brilliant story, and this was one of the few complete ones in the set that I wished had just been a bit longer (or even a full series).

Kimber is a skeptical, emotionally confused woman in this short. Shes struggling to come to terms with her new reality and her attraction to the three tiger shifters. I completely understand where her conflict is coming from as she woke up to her new reality and thought it was a dream. It does make it difficult to tell what's reality and what isnt. But she handles it in the best way she can when you factor in her attraction.

The world building sounds fantastic and I'm sincerely hoping that we see more from this storyline in the future. I'm a fan of how Ms. Burkhart portrays her characters and worlds and as I said I hope we see more of Kimber in the future.

I did like the book. The characters were interesting and it was great to see another kickass heroine. I will say that there is some similarities with the vampire queen series with the main character not knowing who she is and with her amazing new tigers having to break the news. That was a little too repetitive for me but that was probably my only pet peeve. The new world and the chaos installed is great to read and the development of the relationships between each of the characters is endearing. I can't wait to read more. I was given a copy in exchange for an honest review

What a way to wake up...

Kimber Leigh wakes up... convinced she is having an amazing dream that, as it turns out, she’d rather not wake up from, but as events unfold it turns out the waking up is more metaphorical, and when all is said and done we may have discovered an interesting new world.

I’m curious if there will be more stories, as hints are dropped at events going on that could be interesting fodder for more tales, but as it stands this is an entertaining, done in one quick read.

I was not expecting this short book to be so good.

Picking it up on a whim, I am so glad that I managed to get hooked from the very start. The story, as well as the past aspects scattered throughout, gave this book a plot to keep the reader interested in things other than the main characters and their dynamic, which could have been easily depicted from the other ones.

I was also not expecting to laugh as much as I did. I don’t think anything was particularly funny, just the unbelievable nature of it all might have put me into a giggling fit. Not a bad thing at all though.

It was a unique read

I enjoyed it. It was a unique read. The characters are likable and have ok personalities. They’re not deep, but it’s enough for you to be engaged. The Kimber Leigh is a good protagonist. Her reactions are fairly believable (and hilarious sometimes). It was cool to see her viewpoint of things. The sex was pretty good. I have the admit though, the idea as a whole is pretty goofy. Otherwise, this’s a nice, short read. If you like shifters then you might want to check this out.

"I hoped... only to be destroyed time and time again. I'd finally given up hoping for anything better. It hurt too much."

This was such a short read, too short to have any depth, I feel like this story has so much more to it. It has potentials, the storyline was unique, including tiger shifters, why choose romance and a long lost princess. I enjoyed it for what it was but I also see so many opportunities for a full length novel.

As for the characters, Kazhar was my favorite out of the three men but I wish to read more about them all. This read felt too rushed and incomplete.

This was an enjoyable short and sweet paranormal book.

I really liked the storyline, the history to the Tygress and the world etc, but needed more - more time to get to know the characters, more time for them to develop feelings for each other, and I need to know more about the world and what happens next now that Kimber is there with them.

All in all it was enjoyable, but i'm really hoping this becomes a series as I want more. :)

Beginning to think this author has a thing for purring :)

Loved her previous books so I was eager to try this book out. Loved the book. Would love to read more. The only thing I missed was a villain and the book felt more like a set up than a complete book since it was all background and convincing her that she wasn’t dreaming. So if she can build on it on the next book, that would be great since we are left with an incomplete feeling.

Short but so good!

I really hope this is the start to a new series for this author, like a prequel or something, because I really want more! This is my first time reading anything from Burkhart and it was so good for a novella. I'll definitely be looking to read her other stories. And even though this is very short, it doesn't end in a cliffhanger (at least not in my mind) but has an open ending.

The novella had an interesting setup and world, but unfortunately it wasn't long enough to allow for proper development of the world and characters. The backstory was info-dumped in one go, and the insta-love was rapid. The main conflict was the FMC Kimber trying to decide if her situation was real or a dream. Overall, I thought it was still a fun read though, but I think it would have been better as a full length novel.

Short, steamy and yet full of sentiment. Although the story is a short one since is part of an anthology, we can really connect with Kimber and her loneliness.
As always great world building and the Tigers were also a pleasant surprise.
I can see this as a prequel if Joely wants to write more about Kimber and her Tigers and their adventures to save their planet.

Short (65 pages) story about a struggling waitress who wakes up on another planet.

Kimber worked her shift and went home tired and hungry, she crawled into bed and shivered her way to sleep. But she woke between three huge tigers, and they talked to her. Will Kimber listen to them, or run back through the portal that brought her here?

I loved this story and liked how the princes worked together to reveal themselves and Dhalmaria to Kimber. I was hoping for more. More romance. More sex scenes. Did they have a commitment ceremony? Did they rule together and chase the Sitti off their planet? Where they able to have Cubs? Repopulate the Primes? Please tell me more of them is coming???

Waking up to fine yourself!

Kimber goes to sleep in her small, cold room in St. Louis. When she awakes she is warm and surrounded by tigers. She is even using one of the tigers as a pillow. This must be a dream!

Is Kimber really dreaming? Where is she? And why is she here? How do the tigers play a part in what has happened to her?

I read this book mostly because I was bummed that the dynosauros series was over and I wanted more of the same kind of dynamic. This was fell pretty flat for me. It's a short story, and the main character got on my nerves a bit. The world building was entirely too much for such a short novella with no continuation, and overall it just wasn't what I was looking for.
