This book opens your eyes to confront fears about talking, praying to God? It provides ample examples from biblical encounters with the author’s experiences to help you understand the simplicity of conversing with God? Each chapter contains questions for reflection and conversation starters which help you focus on a particular prayer concern. I like how the author uses the word “talk” instead of “prayer” because it frees our traditional understanding of “praying” allowing us to understand that God talks to us when we pray.

It would be of a Reader’s best interest to read through the Table of Content and identify the chapter that presently resonates with them. Begin practicing that conversation starter, as suggested by the author, for 5 to 7 months (or as the Lord leads) before moving on to another chapter. If not, you’ll become bogged down with author’s life experiences and biblical references. The conversation starters are practical disciplines which you can easily be applied.

Although I have practiced some of the conversation starters before, chapter 10 has been especially useful. This is not a book you need to complete, but a book you need to apply in different seasons of your life. So take your time.

Many people don’t consider that prayer is a conversation with God. It’s usually perceived as something formal and stuffy, with plenty of thees and thous thrown in along the way. But a conversation is exactly what it is. That raises more questions. Like how exactly do you talk to the Creator of the universe? And what exactly do you talk about with an Omniscient God? The answers to these questions are easier than you think.

In this book, Bowling offers conversation starters that can lead to incredible talks with God. Each conversation can go deeper than surface level as you speak with the One who made your soul and body. Practice is key with prayer, and focusing on one of these conversation starters for longer stretches of time will open up richer conversations as you settle your mind and heart on God.

A quick read that is worth revisiting again and again, Hey God, Can We Talk? has fantastic ideas for what to talk about with God in your prayers. I believe that you need to take your time with each conversation, but that the variety of topics will guide you to God and a deeper connection. If you have ever wondered what to talk about with God, this book offers some great ideas.

A book that you will want to spend time in. Filled with narrative as well as conversation starters (aka methods of prayer). I look forward to taking the time to use the conversation starters in my prayer life. Highly recommend for those interested in learning more about talking with God.

"We must realize that God is initiating a deepening relationship with us—not the other way around. We are responding to God’s continual initiatives. He is beckoning us to experience His loving-kindness. He gives us grace, wisdom, and strength, invites us to a deeper relationship with Him, enters our daily living for fellowship, and connects with us!"

Wonderful!

This book is wonderful! I love the different ways given to help individuals start conversations with God. It’s especially helpful if one thinks of prayer/talking to God as being formal and stiff. I’m looking forward to finding out which of these would best work for me. Highly recommended!

Be Careful. I ordered a knock off book with the EXACT same title: "Hey God, Can We Talk?" I was mortified when I pulled out the fake copy I purchased and everyone else in my study group had the correct version. The knock off has a cheap looking clip art cellphone on the cover while the real book has a beautifully designed pattern. Hopefully this helps others avoid the same mistake I made.

On to the review:

Sarahs writing encourages the reader to experience an openness and honesty in a conversational relationship with God. I am already incorporating Sarahs suggestions by including, gratitude, forgiveness, in light of Gods majesty and grace.

The book can be life changing as Sarah introduces guidelines and steps to opening conversations with God: when you feel you have failed God, when you desire nearness, when the future looks desolate, or you are confronted with choices.

I begin to feel that each chapter was designed with me in mind as felt the impact of the presence of God at in these encounters. Examples from the Scriptures and real life experiences of real people demonstrate the depth of connecting with God through meaningful conversations.

Highly recommended.

Such a heartfelt book. The author acts as a mentor/wingman for igniting or rekindling a relationship with God. Not only does the book discuss prayers but the book also provides specific examples from the author's life demonstrating how God has impacted her life. Best of all, the author provides specific exercises for the reader to complete, essentially conversation starters. Never overbearing, the book offers a gentle hand each step of the way. Additionally, the book can be read straight through or each chapter on an as needed basis. I would highly recommend this book and see myself rereading this book frequently.
