The Children of the Gods #39

Dark Overlord’s Wife

Rate this book
Jacki is still clinging to her all-or-nothing policy, but Kalugal is chipping away at her resistance. Perhaps it’s time to ease up on her convictions. A little less than all is still much better than nothing, and a couple of decades with a demigod is probably worth more than a lifetime with a mere mortal.

I can't get on board with the marriage plot and how suddenly Jacki only cares what Kalugal will think of her but apart from that this was another enjoyable episode in this series.

I'm hoping no one gets hurt in the next book as that ending was a bit of a cliffhanger.

This is a paranormal romance and is thirty-ninth in the Children of the God series and second in the Dark Overlord series. Jacki and Kalugal have begun to plan their life and wedding together. The mayhem of 2020 (virus and if it can go wrong it will) has found its way into the series. That is not necessarily a bad thing, Ms. Lucas writes wonderfully rich and realistic characters and plausible storylines within the world she has imagined. Kudos to you Isabel

We're Gettin' There

I'm torn between giving 4.5 and 5 stars for this one. There was a LOT of good stuff...but it still dragged a little in other areas.

As for some of the good stuff:

Director Simmons and Dr. Roberts are not giving up on getting their "escapees" back. Since they were able to track Jacki to Kalugal's mansion, they are hatching a plan to infiltrate the fortress. Not only will a few of the escapees be present, but they are determined to capture the other "paranormals" that may be on the premises.

And why will there be a large number of "paranormals" on these premises? Because Jacki and Kalugal are pledging themselves as mates...Say it with me...Awwwwwww!!!!

Even though the idea of getting married came up as a way around their issues of trust and commitment to one another, Jacki and Kalugal came to realize that they did already love one another. They pledged themselves to each other privately, but the grand party is still on...and the danger is increasing.

As far as some of the dragging issues:

Jin STILL hasn't transitioned. What is the holdup?!

Vlad is giving Wendy another chance. Ew. I don't like her...I don't care what her reasons were.

I was really excited for this book and I don't feel like I was let down at all. This book (and the sneak peek at the next book on I. T. Lucas' website) hint at some big action coming up...and I can't wait. I don't know how I'm going to survive until the end of May until this new book (along with a few others) comes out!

I'm so excited for Jacki and Kalugal getting married. I must say it all happened extremely fast. Especially since Jacki is still a virgin and wants to be married before being intimate. But I guess that is precisely why they are rushing to get married, so they can become intimate. Kalugal is really a gentleman and very patient. So happy for this couple.
Everyone seems happy for them and are all willing to chip in and make the day memorable.
Kian, Kalugal and Lokan all seem to be getting along well, while still walking on egg shells around each other. I can't wait for them all to trust each other completely.
Wendy and Vlad are starting over. Hopefully Wendy will make better decisions going forward. I would hate to see Vlad disappointed again.
Dr. Roberts and Simmons are up to no good and I do hope that the clan, Lokan and Kalugal kill that entire program and rescue all the paranormal talents being held by them.
Carol is such a riot. Yes Carol, you are definitely a "Princess".
Crazy to see that the virus is mentioned in this series. I'm glad it is because it makes it appear more realistic since we are currently living in the midst of the pandemic.
Looking forward to the wedding day and what's to come.

Dark Overlord’s Wife(The Children of the Gods Paranormal Romance Series Book 39) - IT Lucas

This was another amazing journey into the fantastical world of Children of the Gods. It was especially exciting to see the story unfold of some fairly new characters, Kalugal and Jacki.
Their union is not only significant because Kalugal is a son of an evil God and has distanced himself from his maniacal father, and Jacki is a possible dormant who is resistant to his compulsions.
Also brewing is the “experimental” alliances of Kian, Kalugal and the clan, and Kalugal with his brother Lokan.
I enjoyed how the author added the “virus” situation we are currently battling, into the storyline. As always it makes for her fantastic and expanding world building based in a realistic setting.
Along with the main storyline of each book there are also so many storylines and characters being woven into the books and expanding the series. It’s a great way to dive deep into this world knowing there are so many books and they keep getting better and better. Book 40 can’t come soon enough.

Finally! Jacki and Kalugal are ready get married to each other, or they're heading in that direction. It goes without saying that Jacki has a few "reservations" about mating with an immortal, being human herself. Kalugal is so charming and charismatic, he does and says everything possible to allay her fears - if she doesn't want to marry him, I will!
Dark Overlord's Wife is almost a reunion novel with members of Annani's clan, the friends and family Jacki is just starting to know, all interested in meeting Kalugal. Lots of excitement in this installment: wedding plans with the ladies, strategic planning with the men, and even Vlad and Wendy are included in the story. True family bonding at its best. Enjoyed every page, and now I can't wait to see what happens next....

Received an ARC for an honest and unbiased review.

Dark Overlord’s Wife KU 330 pgs **** 7/4/21 Kalugal & Jacki

4 stars. Lost one star because again with the other story within a story; Vlad and Wendy which I really could care less about so I actually skim through their little chapters. I love Kalugal and Jacki. She is so real and is exactly what he needs. Once they get over their little paranoia scenario about does the other one actually love them or are they using them, I think they will be the perfect couple. They have good chemistry, good conversations and they just fit each other. Looking forward to the wedding and any excitement that goes with that! I will be glad when Kian gets over his distrust and grandiose actions toward Kalugal because I think he, Lokan and Kalugal will make a great trio in immortal’s survival.

Things that make me say hmm

Another book that I absolutely love! I get so excited thinking about what will be in the next book and whose story will be told next. Kalugal is my favorite character thus far and I'm loving him and Jacki's story. As I head into the 40th book of this series, I find myself wondering why there hasn't been a character of color (African American) introduced yet. With such a diverse group of characters being introduced throughout the 39 books I've read thus far, I was hoping at least one would have been introduced. Especially with all the multiracial families there are in society these days. Maybe I'm jumping the gun. I do have quite a few books left to go through in the series. I guess I will just have to read and see. Fingers crossed.

INTENSE

This was definitely one of my favorite books of the series. I still don't like Kalugal wanting to rule the world, but he is becoming one of my favorite. I am very excited for the next book. I do have a but, I found myself praying Jackie will have a vision that will help Ananni find Khiann in stasis somewhere. I just can't accept the fates providing for others and not for Ananni. You need to read the entire series to understand what I'm saying. You will not be disappointed. I hope it never ends. I honestly believe if someone discovered I.T. Lucas and this series they would make it into movies that would blow Twilight out of the water. Just don't make it PG.

Stunning

I.T. Lucas truly has a way of locking you into her stories . Not only does true love summer and prevail ,but sometimes the bad guys get throttled . Not always , but keep reading . Lucas has a wonderful way with words ,and a healthy dose of sexy fun . Definitely not for those of the younger age group . I was hooked from the first book which I listened to on the audible app. But now I can't wait that long to see where the stories will go, so I always pre order the next in the series . My highest praises to I.T. Lucas !

It still amazes me that even after almost 40 books in this series I'm drawn in entirely with every new book. There's always some refreshing and exciting in each new book. Dark Overlord's Wife is Kalugal and Jacki's wedding/mating story. Of course it wouldn't be true to the series if there wasn't some intrigue, surprises, thrills and trust issues along the way. This series is by far on my top list of paranormal series to read. The mix of mythology, history and folklore is truly brilliant. If you plan start another series this year make sure The Children of The Gods is it.

Jacki and Kalugal :

One thing I felt while reading this was how small I felt Lokan was. He’s larger than life character just felt so small. I know this was about Kalugal and his extremely large personality but I’ve never felt like this from other characters as the story widen and developed. I loved this book. The humor was infectious. Go Vlad!! Proud of that boy! Now I’m on pins and needles about Director Simmons and Roberts. I really hope their plan gets foiled big time. Loved how IT Lucas involved the virus we are all dealing with and how it would be for the immortals.

I really have enjoyed this series from start to this point. I've read all 39 books over a period of 2 1/2 months. I was so looking forward to the love story of Jacki and Kalugal but this book left me feeling o.k. Usually the other stories contained in these books would keep my attention as well but I really struggled through this one.
Since I'm so far into this series, it won't deter me from finishing the series because there are story lines that are not yet finished.

Looking forward to reading how the wedding goes. I'm hoping those two old doctors get what's coming to them. I'm glad I.T. didn't take too long to admit to the attraction of a couple of story lines in this installment of the series. Glad to see Vlad and Wendy's relationship budding as well as the main characters... Jacki and Kalugal. And who will Richard finally end up with? All exciting stuff to look forward to in book 40.

Good addition

I am excited for the union between the brothers and cousins. I want them to succeed and bring the Doomers along to be better than just villains. Kal and Jacki are getting along even though his second is infatuated with Jacki too. Kian is so cautious but I can understand his reasoning. Let’s hope that they can help each other stay safe and be successful. Read On!

Amazing Series!!!!

Every book in this series is amazing and suspenseful. There is never a dull moment with any character and it's wonderful to catch up with mated couples. Just can't wait to read the next book. I keep thinking the story is headed in one direction only to veer in the opposite direction.

Great book

I am glad to see the cousin’s trying to get along and attempting to trust each other. The suspense is building and when we see what the government has planned the day of their wedding when both leader’s people are present it is terrifying. I can’t wait for the next book!

Another amazing installment to the series! The plot has me fully pulled in and my mind is racing wondering what can possibly happen with those two government men and their plan. Hoping they get taken out and fail miserably! Also hoping Kalugal and his men full on join the clan. Love all these characters and cannot wait to devour more!

Oh Shiitake Mushrooms!

Just finished reading this book and a load of expletives flew out of my mouth! I don't know if I can wait a month for the next book. I need to know now what happens! Just when I think I will get bored with the same boy meets forever mate scenario, I.T. Lucas pulls a twisted rabbit out of the hat! How many days do we have left again?😀

Another great pairing

Ooh that was a cliff hanger! I hope it back fires on the old men. Luckily I can go download the next book right now. I have a reminder in my calendar to go download all three books of the next pairing. The only thing I didn’t like was the Wendy/Vlad story. They are the first couple that I really am not interested in knowing about.

Melting the Ice Goddess

Oh boy, Jacki is in heavenly bliss! How will she defend herself and her husband against the Director and his minions? I'm curious to how the author is using today's current health and environmental events to write sensual, romantic relationships about immortals. Who'd think?

Once again I. T. Lucas has written a winner! I don’t know how she can write so quickly, including current events, and still keep me spellbound. I can’t wait for the next installment.

Another great story

Once again the storyline flows fast and furious tension and tenderness in equal measure. Once you start to read a book in this series they are incredibly hard to put down before you get to the end which always seems to arrive too soon

Trust

This book concentrated on trust, the rebuilding of trust with Wendy and the building of trust with Kalugal. I do enjoy how these books keep you interested and the author even managed to throw in the complications of the virus effecting the humans.
