As Jacki and Kalugal prepare to celebrate their union, Kian takes every precaution to safeguard his people. Except, Kalugal and his men are not his only potential adversaries, and compulsion is not the only power he should fear.
After 40 books, I just keep being blown away at how good the series still is. After all this time, Instead of losing interest, I anxiously wait for the next book to come out. The characters are all so well written that you want to know more about all of them and see them find their mates. And I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again, I am continually amazed at how the author can write so many characters and keep true to all of their personalities in dialogue and action, even though some of them were introduced 40 books ago. Just an amazingly talented writer.
Side note with a wish from me - I hope that someday we see William get a mate. I know he liked that one college aged girl many book back and it didn’t work out, but I’d love to see him find someone eventually. He’s been supporting the team for so long and really deserves it. Maybe they find someone for him in the paranormal program when they shut it down. :)
I love this series so much I’ve read it twice. I think the possibilities for a great story line exist with Roberts and his compound. Also a great possibility with all the new romances now. This entire book was about Jacki transitioning and Vlad fear of sex. That could have been told in one or two chapters. So it deserves 4 stars for plodding along and redundancy.
After 40 books, this series is still intriguing and keeps me looking forward to the next in the series. Happily ever after! Another great couple, fated for each other, gets their happily-ever-after ending. It seemed like such a great ceremony. Short and sweet. Precautions were in place, but no one expected an attack like this. Simmons and Roberts attack the reception, but thanks to Kian's paranoia, they were some what protected. It was really great to see Kian, Lokan and Kalugal working together and getting along to protect their people. Jin and Jacki both transitioning is such a boon to the clan and Kalugal. What is going on with Jin's transition? Her and Mey are so different from all the others, what could this mean? Wendy and Vlad are growing closer. Vlad is able to get through Wendy's insecurities and fears. Wendy is opening up more to Vlad. Vlad deserves love and I hope Wendy is his true love mate. What a great idea Carol and Amanda had for making an immortal dating app. I was laughing out loud when they made the announcement. Sounds like it would help match them easier than introducing them 1 at a time. I look forward to seeing how that app works for them. Can't wait for the next fated couple story.
I’m going to try to stop taking off stars for the filler repetitive inner monologues full of illogical and irrational thoughts and statement because it seems that’s the author’s crutch. But boy is it annoying and a mood killer when trying to remain focused on the story.
So one main thing that irked me in this one was that they never asked about how they were tracking the escapees. That should have been something on William and Roni’s mind and definitely the inquisitive Kalugal. Kian and Turner should have also had a desire to know. They hadn’t encountered anything like that before, plus they new it had to be a new kind of technology, something they’ve been actively watched and advancing since lord knows how long, and it never even crossed their minds to ask about it. Oversight on the authors behalf.
Vlad and Wendy are making progress, as as usual, it’s slow progress and they are put on the back burner.
Anyway, not much else to comment on without given spoilers so I guess that’s all. On to the next book.
See my notes and highlights on Goodreads. Happy reading!
Dark Overlords’s Clan(The Children of the Gods Paranormal Romance Series Book 40) - I.T. Lucas
This series is so awesome, with Book 40 the story keeps morphing into a new world, this one encompassing new immortals ,new family ties and old ties being rekindled. I was very relieved to see how both clans (Kian and Kalugal’s) worked together to avoid a dangerous Plot against the clans. Jacki and Kalugal make a very romantic couple with Kalugal being the more “experienced” partner, both learning to trust and figure out the whole “love” thing. At the same time Kalugal and Kian have to figure out the future of their clans, the threat of Navuh , the newly reunited Annani and her sister. The series’s refreshed with awesome possibilities to come. Hoping for many stories the author has hinted at for future books (don’t want to give away any spoilers). Readers should definitely enter this mesmerizing world I.T. Lucas has created starting with the Book one all the way to a hopefully soon released Book 41!
Dark Overlord Clan KU 334 pgs **** 8/6/21 Kalugal & Jacki
4 stars again because about ¼ of the story was about Vlad and Wendy which I could not read, I had less interest in that couple than any in the entire series. The wedding was going so well until the government people plotted against them. That was interesting and exciting! Kian, Lokan and Kalugal became better acquainted but there was still that huge last of trust with Kian of Kalugal and even Lokan. I am disappointed that Logan and Kalugal didn’t get to spend much time with each other. I was really hoping they would have a great, special bond. Hopefully they will in future books. I missed Annani and her bunch in this book. There are a few transitions so that is always a great to read too. I loved the plotting, the closeness of all the females and the way the females don’t let the males pull any punches with their “neanderthal” bossiness!
Another great book in this series. #40 and still going strong. I'm thoroughly enjoying the mental chess game going on between cousins Kalugal and Kian. Everyone around Kian thinks that he is overly paranoid. I think that he will prove them all wrong, unless Jacki can convince Kalugal to take a different route to world domination and the important role that Kian can play. I've already pre-ordered book # 41. I'm looking forward to the first romance between clans, Edna the judge and Kalugal's second in command. Bring it on. I want to see Edna stop hiding and bloom [nto a beautiful flower. The end of June can't come soon enough.
Dark Overlord's Clan is book 40 of I.T. Lucas' world renowned The Children of The Gods series. With every book you are drawn in from start to finish. In this book we learn that no matter how prepared you believe you are there are always surprises waiting to jump out and change everything. Kalugal and Kain believed they had covered all bases to ensure the safety of their people. Unfortunately, mistrust of each other blinds them to a danger neither saw coming. Working together may prove to be the thing that saves everyone, if only they can learn to trust each other. This series is one of my absolute favorites and I can not wait to see what's next
I finished on 1 day , and loved you absolutely put all the good things in this book, I was hoping for the wedding to be saved and you hear me out. I was looking for the paranormal center to be stopped and it feels like it. I was very happy to see Vlad in love with Wendy and to Jackie and Jin to transition and you give me that too. So thank you for give me something wonderful to read. I was able to forget about what is happening around the world. Looking forward to next book.
Wendy and Vlad’s story is now progressing and actually fun to read. It’s kinda sweet to read about their first young love. It’s very hilarious at times. Jacki and Kalugal’s story has been extremely entertaining to read. They are so adorable together. His love for her is so romantic. Love how she grounds and tempers him. Can’t wait to read his reaction when he meets Annanni.
Disappointing. It's soo slow. At least better than the 2 previous ones. Without KU I would never read them. You definitely won't get enough for your money. So many chapters but no developments overall. All the things we want to know, we don't get to know. Where is the meat of the story? We get glimpses here and there and the resolution comes probably in another 12 books. I should just stop reading them, I get so annoyed afterwards. Sorry for the rant 🙈
Thank you! This series is addictive! I can't wait to read the next book. They are awesome!
I believe that Kian has met his match with Kalugal but in a good way. I loved this story because it is bringing the two warring factions together by love. I also like the incorporation of real time events and national concerns. I give this book and the entire series 4 STARS for its romance and originality.
40 books in and I'm still as hooked as I was with book 1. I truly love all of the characters and love reading more of them each month! The back and forth between Kian and Kalugal is very entertaining. I really hope that eventually both Kalugal and Lokan fully join the clan. Looking forward to reading about Edna and Rufsur next, as well has following the other plots! Definitely recommend reading this series!
. I always love reading this series and can’t wait for the next edition to come out. I. T. Lucas is a wonderful writer. Kaugal and Jackie had the most romantic wedding until Dr. Simmons ruined it. I’m glad they were able to overcome the interruption. Also I can’t wait to hear more about Rufsur and Edna. Maybe even Phinas and Atzil could find a mate. Honestly I would like to see Atzil paired up with Vanessa and Phinas paired up with Alena.
We get to witness two dormants transition in the ending of this book, a true cause for celebration. More trust is built between Kian and Kalugal, and we even get updates on Vlad and Wendy. This book is pact with action and drama. Looking forward to continuing this series.
I. T. does it again. This series has so many twists and turns, love and life, war and peace and is so thorough and includes so many characters that it still amazed me that each character is so complete and has interlacing plots and is absolutely perfect. So we'll rounded and so complete that it's worth reading over and over!!!
So Simmons.. got to say I’m thrilled with that out come..I was terrified to read this instalment after the ending of the last one. And I’m looking forward to the next book cuz I’m thrilled with the new change of events. Such a brilliant and talented writer 💜very exciting things to come and I can’t wait🤗
Not one of my favorites. I'm a little less invested in Jacki and Kalugal now and the romance with Vlad and Wendy is a little too forced and quick for my liking.
I would have liked the government raid to be a bit more meaty after all the build up and the dating app idea I just can't get on board with.
Still was fun to see old characters and have the story progress.
I love this series so much. I am already worried about when it ends what will I do and read next. This series has been therapy for me. Stress, anxiety and sadness can be tolerable by reading to escape. The strong female characters are a band of encouragement with a hard life. I would recommend for anyone who wants to escape into another exciting life.
Just saying how fabulous these book are doesn’t come close to doing them justice! This series is over the top! And easily one of my favorites if not THE FAVORITE! I can not wait for the next book!!
I’m not normally a paranormal series reader, but this series is well written and you can’t put them down. Don’t miss reading these and her other books!
Although it seems loose ends have been tied, I’m wondering if there’s still something coming down the pipeline. I love the side character stories sometimes more than the main story. The plot thickens & I’m still wondering what Losham is up to...
Love love this series have read all the books waiting for next month's release. This would make an awesome series could be the next Game of Thrones. Hope someone will realize it. Please read these books!

I really love the ' The Children of The Gods' series. It's so interesting how all of the books incorporate the old characters, while introducing new characters. It keeps things fresh. I can't wait for the next book, I'm sure it'll be as good as the rest.
This installment is alright. If you have read the rest of the series, you know essentially what will occur in the book. Personally, I think it is way past time to wrap it up.
The overall plot & complex characters make the Children Of The Gods series really enjoyable! I can’t wait to read what comes next & the new interesting characters that are introduced in the series!
The only thing I disliked about the story is that it is stretched out over so many books. The stories are awesome and I real!y love them.Thank you for writing and sharing your gift with us
I finally decided to read the ending of Jackie and Kalugal story and it did not disappoint, I loved reading about Vlad and Wendy too. Don’t want to give anything away but I’m happy director Simmons got what he deserved. On to the next one.
I have read the series from Book One (Dark Stranger) through book 46! This is the best paranormal romance series I have ever read. Even better than the Shade series by B. Forrest! I read them all since the beginning of the summer till Oct 27 2021
This entire series is beyond a shadow of a doubt is the absolute best. I rarely reread any book but these will be the exception I've already reread books one - five just because I needed a fix between some of the books. LOVE LOVE LOVE them all.
