They arrive on the tide, and with them, they bring death.

Reyna heard the warnings all her life. Pirates take what they want and kill what they don’t. One just washed up on her shore, and she must choose whether or not to ignore that warning and save him.

When Fallon is betrayed and thrown to the sea, his last thought as he sinks to the dark depths is for his brothers. He wakes in a cave with a beautiful woman and the knowledge that it’s only a matter of time before the hunters find him.

The warning comes true as her village burns to the ground. Pirates hunting for something buried long ago. A pirate king searching for power to rule the world and all that live in it. Reyna can trust a pirate or be killed by one, and either choice could lead to death.

Well, I’ve finally read my first multiple partner (Reverse Harem) story ever!! Normally I shy away from these, but since it is one of my favorite authors and it’s a whole series, I thought I could ease myself into it. Don’t ask me why I’m not really into them because I don’t know. I will let you know my final feelings when I read the last one in this series.

This paranormal, dystopian story is awesome. I love where it is going and the world building is very unique. Waterworld meets-Sabrina the Teenage Witch…Ok, maybe not quite. It is a Waterworld esq society but with pirates and fearful land dwellers. The Pirates take and the land dwellers seem defenseless. But the real story is the one that will save the world from the pirates and how her five mates help her find her way to greatness. Yes, I did say five mates.

Each of the five pirates are uniquely intertwined with Reyna and provide her with support in different ways. They are like one big family, of sorts, thrown together from childhood and bound by shared experiences. Reyna is the interloper and must figure out where she fits in this motley group. She has a way with people that puts them at ease and bends them to her will that is unusual among the pirates and their way of life. Having a woman on a ship is not done during these times, but the Captains find their crews are not bothered by Reyna, in fact, they are all enamoured of her. Almost as if she's bewitched them all.

We don’t see much of the antagonist in this first book, but he’s out there wreaking havoc on the land dwellers and then the pirate ships. This first book is about the relationship Reyna builds with all her mates and finding her magic. I’m giving this a 4.5 of 5 because, of course, a cliffhanger is involved…Oooh how I hate them. I know they are necessary, but I hate them all the same. The romance isn’t super hot, but the writing is heating up between Reyna and her men. I’m sure the next books will be hotter as Reyna figures out how to navigate the five and becomes more secure in the harem relationship. Please pick this one up. It is a good book, I highly recommend. And please feel free to tell me how you feel about Harem story lines and where they fit on your “hotness” scale.

Wow... Leave it to S. Lawrence to get me to read a pirate romance. This would normally not be my genre, but since it's loosely connected to her Guardian Series, which I loved, I figured I'd give it a shot. I am so glad I did. This was so good, I started reading in the evening and only put it down when I fell asleep. The story starts out a little like the waves on a quiet day; they roll in giving the reader small peeks out what is still to come. By the end of the book the waves are high and rough knocking me off my feet. The characters are well rounded and still not quite done developing. Reyna is just coming to grips with what the tide dumped at her feet and her pirates are finding their place at her side. I can't wait to read the next book in this exciting new series. S. Lawrence did it again, and like it's mentioned in the preface of the novel, it's not necessary to have read the guardian series, but I would definitely recommend it, just because it enriches the story.

This is Book 1 in the Chronicles of the Marked Series. Wow! That’s all I can say. It’s so good. I wasn’t sure how I was going to like it but it more than surpassed my expectations for it. It starts out after the Gods fought and destroyed the world as it had been known. We meet Reyna and the pirate, Fallon, after he has been hurt. Not too long after that, Reyna’s world as she knows it, comes to an end. After that happens, she meets up with Fallon’s brothers, Cyder, Wilder, Hagen and Lash. As I read, I became glued to the book and I didn’t want to put it down. So much happens and in unexpected ways. The way Reyna interacts with each brother just has you wanting to take her place. I highly recommend this series. There’s magic in here and it will take you away. I do want to say though that it does end in a cliffhanger so be ready for that. And it ends at an exciting moment in time! I almost pulled my hair out on that ending. I can’t wait for the next book to get here now.

Chronicles of the Marked, book one: Born Magic, is phenomenal. S Lawrence completely immerses us in a world where we are stranded, after the world collapses, and then she proceeds to grab us and drag us from adventure to adventure, all with a completely unique RH story.

I LOVED every moment I spent reading this author’s words!!!

She writes as though she has epic tales to tell and we are the fortunate readers of her words <3

This is a unique, fun pirate reverse harem romance. I really enjoyed Reyna's dynamics with Fallon and his brothers especially their interactions. The flow of the story is smooth with a fantastic story and plot line. This is a great read and start to this new series. I am very excited for the next book.

4.5 Stars!

Leave it to Susan to make me try a Pirate book and LOVE it ~ I have come to the realization that I can broaden my horizons, step outside of my box and feel comfortable doing so with this Author. I was instantly drawn into Reyna's world and enjoyed watching how she fits into Fallon's family. The five brother's were so different, yet they fit together perfectly. I love seeing the things happening in the background that will shape this "New" family, how all their individual strengths will evolve and become a joint force to be reckoned with. This was an awesome start to what I know will be an amazing series I am ready for more from the Chronicles of the Marked!
