“the old wolf never forgets its old ways...” Perfect title for a perfect story. The series is a heart-pounding thriller that never lets up, there are so many fronts, it was difficult to keep tabs on them all, a complicated and exciting trapeze, but tightly interwoven, turning it out into a lovely design of colourful kaleidoscope of action, trepidation, suspense, intrigue, deception.. fantastic threads of intense read. Misinformation, disinformation, and betrayal from almost everyone around the protagonist, makes this story a Trademark of breakneck action and suspense. Amazing settings, with great characters. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this installment and left wanting for more! I hope the next book comes out soon! I received a complimentary copy from the publisher and my review is entirely voluntary.
This story has Javin assigned to extract a Nuclear Scientist who was suspected of working with the Iranians. Unfortunately, this effort was botched when one of the team members killed the scientist. After this incident, he went to Bahrain and with assistance by a Mossad partner, they went to gather information to find a second scientist. During this time, Javin received a call with bad news. After the call, the team went to several locations finally winding up in London wher they were attacked.
If you want to find out whether they accomplished their mission and what that bad news related to, then you need to read this book. You won't want to miss the ending, it is a doozy.
I’ve enjoyed many of Ethan Jones’ books from his earliest stories to this, his latest Javin Pierce spy thriller. I’ve always thought his books were engaging, featuring believable characters and no one does action better in my opinion. Deception has all the hallmarks of his writing but it feels a level above what he’s written before. There are so many complex agendas by many different characters it must have been a headache just keeping track of them without the added challenge of weaving them all into an entertaining action thriller. The action is hard hitting without being gratuitous and it’s as exciting as anything you can read. As I said, this story has many overlapping arcs from the different characters but we naturally focus on Javin Pierce for the main story. Who should he believe and who can he trust when everyone lies? Especially when someone from his own past is out to kill him. Deception is a great story that had me hooked right from the start and shows the author has raised his game yet again. Recommended.

Javin Pierce is tasked with retrieving a nuclear scientist from Iran before Iran can develop an atomic bomb. But the operation takes a wrong turn forcing Javin to work with Mossad operative Yael to recover a second Iranian scientist. When they get assistance from a Qatari Prince via an aide - support that comes with a price. Qatar needs someone found, someone with terrorist ties who betrayed the prince.
During the operation, Javin receives news that shakes his world. And what's worse, this operation is about to cost him more than he ever expected. Betrayal is never welcomed, and when the costs become personal, Javin is a man to be reckoned with.
Deception is the sixth book that features Javin Pierce, an agent with CIS. Javin has an intensity that can be unstoppable, and when those who mean the most to him are in danger, you had better watch out if you are behind it. Intense action set in the Middle East, what's not to like? And the most unlikely individuals could be just the allies Javin needs. Can you trust your enemies with your life? Javin is about to discover who he can trust and who is ready to betray him.
An excellent new offering from Ethan Jones, filled with high-action suspense that does not sacrifice clean reading to achieve it. Highly recommended reading.
I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion ~ all thoughts expressed are my own.
Ethan Jones continues to be my favorite author. "Deception" is book # 6 in the Javin Pierce series (note: while you could read this book as a standalone, I recommend you read the whole series so you'll understand the characters better). Javin, the CIS operative is teamed up with a Mossad agent in a hunt for nuclear scientists suspected of helping Iran in its quest to get a nuke. Politics makes strange bed fellows the saying goes; well the same is true in the spy/intelligence world -- the Mossad agent Javin is teamed up with (Yael Rosenbeg) tried to kill him previously! The story starts out with 2 scientists but one winds up being killed so the remaining one becomes critical to find. Non-stop action from the Mid East to London. Oh yeah, Javin's CIS partner, Claudia, gets kidnapped which provides even more suspense & action. Is Claudia rescued? Is the nuclear scientist found? Who is on who's side? Twist & counter twists throughout the story. Once you start, be prepared to stay up late!
The book to beat in 2020. I had the privilege of reading an advance copy of this book, and hands down, it's one of my favorites in the series. This book will keep you begging for more.
When friends betray you, turn to your enemies...

Deception is the 6th in the Javin Pierce spy thriller and another Awesome read by Mr Jones and does not disappoint.
Mr Jones has an uncanny ability by constantly surprising me with the direction of Javin’s investigations, plots, betrayals, deceptions and loyalties from Greece, the Middle East to London being assigned to find a scientist and partnered with Yael, a Mossad operative that has tried to kill him doesn’t make Javin and Claudia’s life any easier.
Love that the Author makes me feel like I’m in the middle of the action along with Claudia and Yael and I’m on one hell of a roller coaster ride.
Thank you Mr Jones for another awesome adventure and the need to find out what Javin and Claudia’s next mission takes him and if Liberty remains a constant in the future.
Deception can be read on its own but I highly recommend reading his books in order to get a more complete picture of the characters involved
Javin Pierce has partnered with female Mossad operative Yael Rosenberg. It is an interesting partnership since she had previously tried to kill him sometime in the past - twice. Their current mission is to stop Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon by capturing a nuclear scientist who was trying to get to Iran and pass on his secrets.
But things are not going well for Pierce. He has a personal tragedy that is going to be hard to ignore during this mission. And soon, some of their friends began deceiving them. Then adding another blow, Claudia, his CIS partner, is kidnapped.
So read Deception to find out if Pierce manages to weave through his enemies, is successful in locating Claudia, and is able to keep Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. The latter, of course, would be preventing Iran from starting a war with the "great satan", the USA.
A great name for #6 in Ethan Jones's fantastic A Javin Pierce Spy Thriller series, Deception really is the name of this fantastic, convoluted tale of global espionage, that will whisk you away from fears about Covid-19 and any Lockdown Blues, to a shadowy covert underworld full of double and triple-crosses, as Javin and fellow CIS agent Claudia must co-operate with those who are ready to betray or have them killed!
Move over James Bond and Ethan Hunt, Javin's the Man who'll put a spell of delicious duplicity and a global search and rescue mission like no other. Check the safety's on your sidearm, lock all the doors and turn off your phone, as you won't want to miss a single page of Deception, the latest in Ethan Jones's brilliant series...get going to get your hands on the truth...or is it?
I’ve read a variety of Ethan’s books and have enjoyed them all. He has a knack for developing stories that grab the reader’s attention at once and lead him/her on a wild roller coaster ride through twists, turns, double dealing and betrayal. This book is no exception. It’s impossible to quess who to trust, and impossible to put down. Who will survive the competition between the multiple intelligence agencies and grab the nuclear scientist before he gives Iran the bomb they desperately want? All with an ending that will blow you away! I highly recommend this book and series.
I received an ARC of this book – this is my honest opinion. I also purchased a copy to support this great author.
Ever since the development of nuclear warheads the scale has swung towards utmost devastation for any two countries that might engage in such a war. Hence smaller countries trying to obtain such a capability to frighten off their enemies and the bigger countries trying to prevent unleashing a nuclear winter on earth. As recently happened when Adam Hussein tried to obtain such an ability. Which brings us directly to the plot by author Ethan Jones in Deception when Javin Pierce got engaged on his next mission...finding two missing nuclear experts who might just have been covered into helping Iran obtain that ability. If not for one thing...in the background moves are also afoot to get Javin Pierce killed. Treachery abounds. As does the rising body count and mistrust galore. Phew! Enjoy
Javin has a very difficult time in this latest mission and as usual it is very dangerous. it also has a very harsh affect emotionally and psychologically. I think it is very hard for agents to follow the rules when they want to use their own judgement in some fraught situations. I think Javin must wonder a lot of times what to do for the best. I enjoyed this latest Javin Pierce story though it had some sad moments. I can highly recommend it if this is your gen re of choice. Ethan Jones novels never fail to please.
Again Javin's adventure grabs you in the first few pages. Inter-agency cooperation, will it work? Can they trust the Iranians? What choices will he make in his personal life? So many questions that keep you turning the pages to see what will happen next.
Great character development. I love to lose myself in Javin's adventures
I do have to say that Javin has lived up to his normal character attitude. He is excellent in getting himself into trouble in every adventure. He is not a kick assed guy like Mitch Rapp. He is his own get in your face person who does not possess any patience. Fast paced ace read.
More betrayal and backstabbing. Javin causes his boss nothing but trouble!
Jam-packed action with plenty of twists and turns. It was hard to keep track of who was on which side with all the fluid allegiances. Javin has really gotten himself into a pile of trouble this time. How bad will the consequences be? And what an ending! It took me completely by surprise.
Pierce is given the task to get a nuclear scientist away from Iranians. Along the way he meets up with his a Mossad agent who is trying to also get him. They work together, but are continually running against others rethought to be helping, but are they? ENJOY!
Author Jones has provided us yet another great CIS (Canadian Intelligence Service) novel. High intrigue, underhanded, double-crossing alliances, and intra-agency assassination fill this book with non-stop action.
Lots of action, betrayal, subterfuge, and mind-bending political machinations. This book will not only keep you guessing, but whirling in the wind trying to keep up with the plot twists. Recommended. This is my honest, voluntary review of an advanced reader copy of this book.
No doubt about who you can trust, no one. Lots of action and back stabbing espionage in this one. Keeps you guessing and wondering if anyone is on your side.
Again, read in one sitting...these stories keep you reading to see who will back-stab Javin and his partner next. Will they ever be able to trust those he has to work with or will every mission mean he has to watch his back for "friendly fire" in order to accomplish his mission....
Javin’s op goes from one issue to another. All down hill. His own life and the life of others is in jeopardy at each turn of a page. Death follows him and people around him constantly. A must read book in the series that has you asking for more. Javin’s future, in life ,love, friendships, and service hang in the balance
