When a well-known mobster turns up dead—gunned down in the refrigerator at her favorite local restaurant—Detective Rosetti has no choice but to get involved. Unfortunately, it’s not long before a familiar name emerges as a suspect, making the case her most personal one yet. The infamous Angelo Rosetti, Kate’s father, is back.
Along with her new case, Kate is forced to balance a cozy weekend with her (almost) boyfriend as she dives deep into the Rosetti family history. However, when romantic dinners turn into stakeouts, her burgeoning relationship stumbles onto shaky ground. If Kate can’t find a way to lock up the hitman who has turned his sights on her, it’s not only her love life that’s on the line…
Originally from St. Paul, Minnesota, Gina LaManna has also called Italy and Los Angeles home. After studying numbers and equations in college, she realized multiple choice tests were “just not for her” and began writing books instead. She loves cappuccino foam and whipped cream and would subsist solely on sprinkles if possible. She currently lives in St. Paul with her wonderful husband and family.
In this book we get more information about Rossetti’s father, and that was enjoyable. I didn’t like the plot as much as the previous books, but it was enjoyable enough.
Kate has another murder case, right when Jack Rossi has flown in to spend the weekend with her. And the case is bringing her back in contact with her estranged dad.
I am really getting into this series. I thought this installment really explained more why Kate is such a workaholic and seems to be pushing everyone away. I must admit I was a bit annoyed by it in the last 2 books. Kate came across a bit cold and standoffish towards both Rossi and Gem and also a bit rude. But now I understand why and - fortunately - Kate seems to get it also, finally. There were some genuine conversations in this book that tugged at my heartstrings. Really well done.
I am not sure there will be more books about Kate, but I really hope so!
3 1/4 stars ***this review is for the audiobook format***
Kate's idea of a first date doesn't quite meet the norm. Instead of a romantic dinner at a nice restaurant w/perhaps a good-night kiss, it's a stake out, pizza & necking in a car. Still it matches with her "possible boyfriend" Jack's personality. This investigation hits close to home as her father (ex-dirty cop) was pals with the victim. How will Kate handle it all?
Well, she handled it w/a touch of humor, good story & great supporting characters.
This is an example of a writer who has improved & developed a series so that it's gotten better each book. The narrator does a great job & it's an entertaining listen. and while the Fed is in the running, i did like that Gem returned & they've established a friendship. (though i still root for him)
The Killer was a complete surprise to me. I didn't see that coming. (hence the extra quarter star) Way to go Ms. LaManna.
FBI Agent Russo has come to town to try to spend a romantic weekend with Detective Kate Rosetti, who unfortunately can not seem to relax and forget about work. This time, a mobster is shot and killed in a local restaurant and her estranged father has suddenly cropped up with ties to the case and is refusing to give her an alibi. I loved the surprise ending, and I am really rooting for Kate and Agent Russo to find a way to make it work, despite all of the work obligations. This is a fun quick read with a great mystery.
Don’t you hate it when a murder gets in the way of a first date? That’s exactly what happens to Kate this time around. Her father is back and that’s bringing all sorts of realizations for her. This fast paced mystery kept me guessing the whole way through. Always entertaining when Kate is on the case!
Poor Kate, she can't catch a break! Her date weekend is interrupted with a murder in the walk in freezer of not only her favorite bar/restaurant, but one her relatives own. Turns out the guy murdered has ties to her dad! Can Kate solve the murder and still make her date?
That tease at the beginning of the book was intense. It was hard not to flip forward and find out. I didn't and I wasn't happy with her choice, but I have a feeling it won't last......maybe? 🤷
3.5 stars but rounding to 4. Things are picking up and I have hopes the series continues to get more interesting. Fingers crossed Russo gets "in there" with Kate. ;D
After reading the first three in the series, I have found that I liked the first book enough to try the second (despite the love triangle thing) and I really liked the second (lots of action and a few twists in it). The third one was quite slow - looks like the love triangle is resolved, but there was too much dialogue inside Kate's head about family and I don't like her uncaring attitude towards others- the book was just not as enjoyable as the first two. Will see what the next in the series brings - maybe I will continue, maybe I won't.
This was an enjoyable, yet frustrating read. I've enjoyed this series, despite the feeling of deja vu from reading a similar plot from other authors (ahem, Janet Evanovich). I was able to overlook that when I thought this was just a 3 book series. Because I thought it would be 3 books only, I was looking forward to resolution of plot lines with this book. I was very disappointed at the end to find out that the saga continues! I can put up with slow development only so long before I get bored and want to move on. Heck, I read 20 or 21 Stephanie Plum mysteries before giving up on them, and they rated way higher on the steam-o-meter. I'm just not willing to go down that slow road again. Sorry, Gina, but this looks like more of the same. Been there, done that, and done with that.
This is the third book so far in the series and while I enjoy most of the characters and the easy read I’m already sick to death of Kate. I was happy Jimmy said something in this book about being a cop longer than she’s been alive. Kate should never have been allowed on this case at all. Also, this is the second book in a row Kate was so concerned about herself that she missed obvious clues. Finally, I personally think the use of a billionaire that’s able to help when she hits a roadblock is lazy writing. I will read the next one but if it keeps going this way I might not be able to take it anymore.
Misty's Corner Review: Follow the Money is the perfect title for Gina LaManna's newest book! Even the cover page has that greenish glow of money, and something more! In this third installment, the Rosetti family history is unearthed, piece by piece in the wake of murder at Bellini's! How does Kate do it? With a little bit of badassery, her suit boyfriend/not-boyfriend, a couple of unlikely accomplices, and the money trail - of course! To think, all of this takes place inside of what was supposed to be a cozy, romantic weekend...
I loved how Kate's family history is brought to light in Follow the Money! We're taken down a path of redemption and family loyalties, not to mention the ever so sweet love story! Gina has a way of teasing the details out, whether it be in regards to the Rosetti's, her personal life, or the case! Or really, all the above. I particularly enjoyed the epilogue as we get a bit of the closure we need right along with a delectable hope at something more!
What will come next for her family? How will Rosetti and Russo juggle their work and love lives from afar? How long will Gem be content to remain in the friend-zone? I'm ever so curious to find out what case lies in store next for Detective Kate Rosetti! I'd classify this as a cozy mystery at it's finest!
Yes, I've rated this another five-star, but for an excellent reason - I rate every book based on the book itself and not on my previous experiences with every book that I've ever read. I either loved it (5*), liked it (4*), it was alright (3*), I didn't like it (2*) or I hated it (1*). I tend to read books that I know I'll enjoy; I get very little time to read, and when I do - I want to savor it, escape if you will. Simple as that.
Many thanks go to the author, Gina LaManna, for providing me a complimentary copy of this title in exchange for my honest review! I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a quick read of a cozy mystery - although I'd suggest starting at the series' beginning with Shoot the Breeze and Riddle Me This. Fans of Janet Evanovich will surely appreciate LaManna's style! Order now on Amazon or check it out on Kindle Unlimited! Thanks for reading! Poor Detective Rosetti. Finally going on a date for the first time in probably years, and it ends abruptly as she gets called in for a case. Even more unfortunate, it hits a little too close to home. Not she not only needs to find the killer (who may or may not be related to her,) she has to deal with her emotions about seeing her dad for the first time in years... since he was sentenced to prison. Oh, and that's not all... she has to figure out how to do the whole dating thing and come to terms with her feelings about that. Yeah, she's got a lot going on in this book. These books are all well written and well plotted, and this is no exception. The characters all feel real, and act like you'd expect them to act, (as real people would.) Nothing overly dramatic or acted out for effect. There is a little more romance in this book than the previous two, as the romantic interests get to know each other more. If you are familiar with the series, she has two men interested in her, but she has kept them both at arms length. Well, she's starting to let her guard down. You do not need to read the previous books to follow this one, but you'll get more background on the characters if you do. The mystery itself has many possible suspects. It seems like whenever Kate gets an answer to one question, several more questions arise. This is a pretty safe read. No sexual content, no violence (there is some shooting, but it isn't brutal or bloodthirsty, or anything like that.) It has a coziness about it in the fact that it is a clean read, but it doesn't really feel like a cozy read (of course it takes place in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, so not small town.) It's kinda a crossbreed of cozy and thriller. It reads quickly and easily.
Kate Rosetti hasn't been dating for forever. She just has an inate distrust of men and so she is married to her job. When FBI Agent Jack Russo walks into her life, he won't take no for an answer. She is drawn to him and agrees to go on a date. When there date is interrupted by a murder at Belllini's restaurant, he understands that she must investigate, especially since it has to do with her family. Her estranged father who is now out of jail for being a dirty cop is there and she investigates him as well. The author employes drama, romance, family issues, a bad cop never caught but now retired as well as dating issues, not only with Kate, but with her mother too being divorced from Kate's father. Thankfully for Kate, Jack Russo is more than understanding, even though he took a 3 day weekend to be with Kate. He is so enamoured of her that there is nothing that will get in between his desired attachment to Kate, something she is not only thankful for, but feeling guilty for even though he is her calming influence. He understands the job and the need to put it first like she does which is why they are meant to be together, but can Kate overcome her issues of having a real relationship with a man? Will her daddy issues get in the way? Did her father have something to do with the murder? With all the potential witnesses who one way or another have something to do with an organized crime machine keep mum? No one wants to be a snitch. As kate starts unravelling the mystery with Russo tagging along, but not getting in the way, she is shot at. Will she solve the crime before someone takes her out? A great read you just can't put down once you start! I received an ARC from the author but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
Kate Rosetti is trying to date Jack Russo, really she is. But The murder in Bellini's walk-in cooler involves her dad, and she just can't turn off cop-mode! Fortunately that's a mode Russo understands and is willing to include in the description of dating Rosetti! You know, dinner and stake-out... Gina La Manna has done it again! Not only is the book stuffed with humor and "Rosetti-cisms", it is full of another great detective story and even family action. I found myself racing through the book to try and put the pieces together before Kate, but that was impossible. I loved the story and sighed in relief when the promise of more books in the series was forthcoming. A wonderful author who can find perfect characters and bend them to her sometimes 'devious' will. Don't miss the book or the series!
I really hope this is not the last series for Kate a workaholic, badass, best female cop in Minneapolis. She can’t always keep up with her family and friends, she’s too busy chasing hard crimes and coming near death to solve this, but this time it’s personal- involving her estranged dad, ex-cop, left with a bad rep. This happens to be the week Jack Russo the Fed she has been partnered with twice flies in from D.C. for a friendly visit with Kate. In this book Kate really opens up with Jack and finds out a little more about her dad, as she takes on the new case where a death took place in the kitchen of the mafia family restaurant. Heartwarming, funny, and suspenseful- it’s another great book by LaMana- keep-’em coming!
Wow! This series is amazing! Every book gets better than the last. I love how Ms. LaManna lets you get into the heads of the main characters. Her descriptions of her friends, family and enemies make you feel like you know them. Also, the descriptions of their locals put you right into the story. I usually have an idea of who is the bad guy, but I’m never right! You can read this one as a stand-alone, but I suggest that you go back and read the first one, “Shoot the Breeze”. You’ll get a better feel for what makes Kate tick. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys edgy mysteries with a strong female protagonist investigator with strong family ties.
Follow the money/Gina loved the series of detective kate and the two men vying for her attention, agent Russo and the billionaire, Gem. A story of a top notch detective on the police force dealing with family issues and murders, serial killers and her mom and sister and a father with a shady pass. A writing style that's up there with deleon, evanovich, both authors I loved. It is a little different that for the most part is amusing and seeing the character realize she has flaws that need working on. Need to read the series from the beginning to understand the dynamic of the characters.
Finally our hard boiled detective is looking toward becoming a well rounded human. We still have our two possible suitors but one is pulling ahead. It’s a tickle watching the entire city trying to get some love under our Detective Kate Rosetti belt. We get some solid scenes with the sister, mother and father that thankfully begin opening Rosettii’s eyes to what’s really going on in her beloved families’ lives and hearts. Here the crime is a conduit to eye opening revolutions. I liked the crime in general because of how it introduced us to the ends and outs of the community at large. The conclusion was simple and fun. I’m happy with it.
Good character development in this series installment. We find out more about the protagonist's backstory, and it works fairly well in the plot. And Rosetti finally makes a decision.
The plot is a bit of a mess, with a really contrived ending that doesn't follow at all from most of the story action. And there is no way that a detective would ever be allowed to work on a case that directly implicates her father.
If you're looking for a romance with some sketched-in mystery elements, this series might be a good choice, but I'll look elsewhere.
This was a fabulous third instalment in the amazing new series from Gina LaManna. Detective Kate Rosetti is a fabulous fun and feisty character that is attempting to find her feminine side, start dating and continue to solve crime. This is a much more emotionally charged book, with romantic angst and daddy issues, but is still a wonderful gripping detective adventure.
Loving this new series... keep them coming please!!!
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
I love this series. I am disappointed that Gem is not in the running for boyfriend. But I will survive.
Kate gets a meet and greet with her criminal father after years of silence. He wants a relationship but she can’t seem to let go of the past. But when a case hits close to home and her father’s name is on repeat in the case, she realizes there is more to the case than she thought.
Good, but . . . Sometimes I wondered why we were dealing with something. Other times I thought I was following closely, but felt lost. I wanted to shake Kate’s shoulders and tell her to quit trying to do everything herself. I think she got the message eventually, but it was a long time coming. I know, you are probably thinking: What kind of a review is this? That’s the way I felt about the book: what’s happening here and why are we dealing with this?
This is a great book; this is the third book in the Detective Kate Rosetti Mystery series written by Gina LaManna. This is another great series by Gina LaManna that is just as good as her other series. Kate has another murder to solve and her father is a suspect. She has to put her romantic weekend on hold. Once I started reading this book I couldn’t put it down until the end. The story flowed very well and was very enjoyable. I can’t wait for the next book by this awesome author!
This series just keeps getting better and better! LaManna created an amazing interaction between the characters, especially Kate with her family. I was trying to figure out who shot him and why through the whole book, which is way better then being able to figure out the plot when I've barely started. Plus Kate & Russo's "relationship" had me begging for more. Yeah for keeping me entertained and in suspense!
Well these are fun easy reads! I boycotted books for the first part of this Pandemic and I love to read! Someone posted the books they read while we are Safer at Home and I was ashamed I've been leafing through magazines. So I dove into this series as I've read Ms LaManna's other series. All like popcorn you can't have one handful! So thank you I'm reading a book or two a day!
Detective Kate Rosetti is a great cop. She doesn't rest until she solves the case. In this case, she finds out that a mob murder might have her father involved. While her FBI boyfriend is in town for the weekend he doesn't get to see much of her while she works the case. Kate will do anything to find the killer including putting herself in danger. You have to hang in there to.find if she will get the bad guy before he gets her
I don't like leave negative reviews, but the protagonist is unbearable. Self-centred, rude, and entitled. The stories are interesting, but I will never find out what happens, because I cannot bear any more of Kate using of her friends, interrogating her family members, throws a fit because investigation happens without her, and disrespects everyone around her. That any of the other characters put up with her is the most fictional element of this.
Lost interest less than halfway through. Probably because of the mob connections? I'm always bored once I hear "mob" "drugs", "human trafficking" and "missing child." Doesn't leave me with much, I know.
Also, Kate spends a weekend, I think, with Russo - but no sex. I'd lost interest by then but I do know I was changing my mind about Russo by then and thinking the Brit will turn out more interesting. Not sure if I will return to the series.
Wonderful and exciting! I can't wait to see what lies in store for Rosetti and Russo next! I couldn't put the book down one I started reading because it was so action packed! Twists and turns and murders new and old needing to be solved with a bit of romance as well! I voluntarily received and read an ARC for an honest review.
