In Accretion the cosmic dust has already hit the proverbial fan, and the cataclysmic Event is happening. I’m still not clear on what’s actually happening, or what drives it, but the effect is felt through the whole galaxy, and the bad guys, led by the enigmatic Paosh Tohon, utilizes the chaos to seize power in system after system. Only Galla-Deia, captain on the stealthship Fithich, and her team, can make a difference. They have a bold plan, and it will take everything they got, and a bit of luck, to defeat Paosh Tohon and its evil followers. Unfortunately we will not know until the fourth and final book. Lucky I bought all four in one go, and so should you! Really, really good space adventure!

I am fortunate to have been an early reader of all 3 books and have loved them all. Each built upon the last book while taking you on a new adventure that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Accretion makes you want more so honestly the fourth and final book can’t come fast enough! Patiently waiting….

As always, stellar writing from J. Dianne Dotson. The world building is so rich and vibrant. I loved the growing relationship between Rob and Galla and Ariel’s pregnancies.

Super excited to read the next book! You won’t regret reading the Questrison saga!

The third installment of the Questrison Saga wastes no time picking up where the, smartly written, “Ephemeris” leaves off and it barrels ahead at breakneck speed.
There are more twists and turns than a wooden rollercoaster!
I think what author J Dianne Dotson has achieved is remarkable. Once again, the story revolves around a family of sorts. A tight unit, on an epic quest to save the Galaxy from an evil force that feeds on the pain of others. This is a story about a central group of individuals that care deeply for each other and express their humanity...no matter what species they may actually be. These are people you know, and the dialog is written in a manner to be fully relatable to the reader. I was happy to see that the “F” word has survived well Into the future! Accretion is great story-telling, its fun, it’s fast, it’s exciting and full of memorable characters. I can’t wait until Book 4 arrives!

All of the setup from Ephemeris pays off as the stuff starts to hit the fan. Really looking forward to the conclusion!

This book is titled perfectly.

As you get further into the book, things move faster and faster, and heat up dramatically. You can tell there is something massive that you're being drawn towards.

This book picks up right where Ephemeris left off. Galla is continuing her journey to the mysterious device worlds, as well as recruiting telepaths to help. Her adversary, the sinister Paosh Tohon and its cohort of Valemog fanatics, are growing in strength. The veiled menace is shedding its veil and moving into the open. Time is running out.

I started this book in smaller installments, reading half an hour here, half an hour there. As I passed the halfway mark, I was finding it harder to put the book down, and found myself returning to it sooner. The last time I picked it up, I was caught in the inescapable accelerating spiral, and I read the final one-third of the book in a single sitting.

Accretion picks up immediately from where Ephemeris left off, with our heroes scouring the galaxy for ancient Devices and telepaths with which to counter the dual threats of the Event and Paosh Tohon, except now, the Event has happened and everything is in disarray. The book starts off with a recap of the story so far, which I thought was a nice touch, then it leaps into action once more. I love it when series take the big world-ending cataclysm that everything’s been pointing towards and just bring it forwards. It’s a great subversion I’m absolutely here for. It shows that the universe doesn’t operate on, nor cares a jot, for the timescales of the heroes. Then the story becomes less about stopping it from happening, but dealing with the fallout of it happening. That’s great because it’s a huge change to the world and shakes the story to its core. This subversion reminds me of The Shadeward Saga by Drew Wagar - I won’t go into detail on that, but it’s similarly well-executed.

The returning characters are magnificent in Accretion as they are more well established in their roles and can really go for it. And there are also returning characters from Heliopause, which was very nice to see. There’s not many brand new major characters introduced, apart from the telepathic Prince Hazkinaut. He’s a great character; earnest, enigmatic, but also a bit cowardly. He and Galla have an interesting dynamic. In general the character work in Accretion is excellent, and this is where Dianne’s exhortation to “buckle up” comes in, because it gets very heavy emotionally. Even while everything seems to be going right for our heroes, it’s all on a knife-edge and could go wrong at any moment. Of course, it does, certain characters don’t make it (trying to be as vague as possible) and the weight of grief and loss is beautifully handled. Thing is, you kind of expect it, but it’s no less of a gut-punch when it happens. And the ending, which was utterly devastating, reminded me a lot of a certain part of Mass Effect 2 (I won’t say which bit; spoilers). Very fitting, given the characters involved. It actually had me going “Nooooo!” so I’m very glad no one else was in the house when I finished the book!

I feel like my one issue from Heliopause and Ephemeris - namely that things move along a bit too swiftly - is pretty much rectified here in Accretion. We get a good amount of time to dwell on the consequences of what happens, and it’s very good.

In short, Accretion is an excellent third entry in the saga, and I’m looking forward to seeing what Luminferous holds in store for Galla and the Questri. Highly recommended.

I'm just glad I have the next book available to read immediately, because this one is a doozy of a cliffhanger. The action toward the end goes at a breakneck pace, and the author is giving George R. R. Martin a run for his money. I can only hope that the final book follows the adage "it's always darkest before the dawn." I'm hooked.

Another great continuing story from J Dianne Dotson. The windup towards the final confrontation continues. Ms. Dotson keeps raising the stakes for her eclectic group of characters. I have been most impressed by her sense of pace and characterization. She can build tension exquisitely through the smallest moments, yet avoids resolving them with giant flash-bang, Hollywood-style explosions. Some of the tensest moments take as little as a page and involve not-the-biggest stakes in the grand scheme of the story. Yet the time and skill Dianne spends getting the reader to care about her characters make for some nail-biting scenes. This is a book I thoroughly enjoyed. Not just for the story, but also getting readers to cheering on the characters and watching them develop as actual people. I eagerly await the conclusion in Book 4.

A fast-paced, pull-no-punches book with a cliffhanger ending that has me already looking forward to Book Four!

This series is old-school space opera in the best way -- telepaths, inscrutable aliens, galaxy-spanning scope -- and each book has been better than the last.

Can't wait to see how it all wraps up!

Wow!! Great story continues.

Dotson has done it again. Accretion is an excellent continuation to the Questrison Saga. As we continue to follow The Capt and her crew we see new worlds new partners in the fight. The story is well paced. I like to stretch books out but you get to a point where you can't put this book down. When I got to the end I just froze for a moment wondering what just happened. Patiently waiting for the next installment. Great job.

This third book in the Questrison Saga continued to outwit me. The plot is sound, with the unusual feature of running two major plot lines at the same time in a seamless way. I did not know what was going to happen from page and page, and often I was very surprised. In addition, there is considerable believable character development. I am very much looking forward to the fourth book. I have no idea what is going to happen.

In this penultimate chapter of the Questrison Saga, all the stakes are raised, every part of the status quo is challenged, and absolutely no character is safe. And with such a character-driven series, you’ll be so attached to them that you won’t feel safe either! My only real criticism is that this chapter ends on a nasty cliffhanger, but since I’ve already downloaded Book 4, that won’t be much of a problem.

I have said it before and will say it again; The Questrison saga BURIES Star Wars. J. Dianne Dotson weaves quite the tale with powerful, nigh-unstoppable villains, and heroes that are good, but flawed and hard-boiled, and thus relatable. None of the characters are immune to mistakes, so they embody that in each of us that makes the story so much better. I enjoy all the characters (Rob is my favorite of course), and look forward to more brilliance from this author!
