Proof that a mother's love is with us through it all...

Meet Savannah, the thirty-something owner of Life Celebrations, a party planning business. Despite losing both parents as a teenager, Savannah is creating a positive life for herself, surrounded by friends and co-workers who are now her family. But she also has a secret—as much as she wants to settle down and have children, she is afraid of getting sick too, and having to leave them without their mother, as she herself was left behind years ago.

Her mother is Deirdre Rose. She continues to watch over Savannah, who feels deeply connected to her mother whenever a dragonfly crosses her path.

Now meet Ben, a good-looking, talented recording artist who is already a household name. Yeah, he’s famous, but he’s also painfully lonely. He trusts few people because it seems everyone wants something from him instead of getting to know who he really is.

As fate would have it, Savannah and Ben cross paths at a yoga retreat in the Massachusetts Berkshires.

They are drawn to each other’s creativity and outlook on life.

She sees beyond his celebrity and he admires her strength in what she’s had to overcome.

What happens when the retreat ends and they're forced to go their separate ways?

Will they be able to make a long distance relationship work?
Can Savannah put aside her fears, and will Ben allow himself to be truly vulnerable?

Above all . . . what message do Deirdre Rose and Dragonfly have for both of them?

Welcome! I write stories that stir heart & soul!

I've been writing stories and novels since the sixth grade when I was assigned to write a short story and instead turned in a 40-page novel about a little girl who stumbles on an underground cat colony! My English teacher (thank you, Mr. Ballantine!) was so impressed, he sent it to a publisher. The publisher did not respond, but Anne Marie decided right then and there to be a Writer (note the capital W).

Flash forward 50 years and I am still writing stories and novels (among other things)!

I have published several books about the intuitive process of SoulCollage®, as well as my two unique cancer journeys. I am now focusing my creative energies on fiction, and you can read my FREE 50-page novella, All You Need is Love...and Lilacs just by signing up for my monthly author newsletter, Inky Blessings: https://AnneMarieBennett.com/newsletter

My women's novel Feathers in the Sand will float onto bookshelves 7/11/22. I am happily blogging about the process of publishing a novel on AnneMarieBennett.com and you can receive updates along with info about extra-ordinary give-aways via my monthly newsletter, Stories That Stir Heart & Soul (link above).

I live with my big-hearted, silver-haired, number-oriented husband Jeff in eastern Massachusetts (with extremely frequent visits to Maine). My daily journey is also accompanied by two beloved adolescent felines (Louis and Seymour) who grace our lives with love and excessive cuddling in their above-ground cat colony of two.

Dragonflies at Night is a novel of relationships past and present. It is story of loyal friends, destinies, fulfilling dreams, appreciating life's beauty and true love. This is a captivating, inspiring and uplifting tale.

It is a story of a woman who lost both loving parents, within months of each other, when she was only 15-years-of-age. Fortunately, Aunt "Zan" gave her a loving home and Martin becme her best friend and was always there for he during the good and bad times. After college, they were married. After several years, and through the encouragement of her other best friend, Andi, she painfully divorced him. Savannah and Andi, then went in business together.

Savannah, eventually took a most needed vacation to a Yoga retreat. While there, her life was changed forever!

In this love story, through dragonflies and other individuals, Savannah is forced to deal with her "demons", trust in other's words and her heart, to make the best choices.

I love the quote the essence of the story is built upon:
" We are all made up of light and we can all reflect that light in powerful ways, if we choose. No matter what dimension we are in ... No matter if the sun is shining or if we are walking through what seems like an eternal nightmare..."

The author created individual characters who seemed so real. The scenes were portrayed well and easily visualized. It was easy for the reader to feel connected to the story. The Title and Book Cover were, also well chosen.

The one objection I have to the book, was the few times profanity was used. It could have easily been avoided.

**Reader Beware: The subject matter is very adult and sexual situation do exist but none are explicit. There is brief use of Profanity a few times.

*This book was gifted me with no requests for a positive review. This is my honest review.

At the heart of this beautifully written book is a love story, a very satisfying love story. Savannah and Ben came from two totally different walks of life and from opposite ends of the country. As fate would have it, their two worlds collided at a secluded yoga retreat. At that moment, something stirred in each of them and a strong connection was made. Their extraordinary bond affected not just them, but many others in their circles of work, family and friends.

And yet, as the cover of the book says, this book is more than a love story. There are profound losses in this book. But along with the losses, hope was realized and experienced. Sorrows were mixed in with joys. Friends and coworkers became chosen family members.

The characters in this book are exceptionally well developed and well connected. I found myself caring about them and their lives.

I loved the ways that magical realism was seamlessly incorporated into the storyline. The communications between the living and those who had already passed were done through dreams and messages. They were truly heartwarming and were some of my favorite passages.

I loved the roles that dragonflies played in this story. They are such exquisite creatures. In my life, dragonflies remind me of certain loved ones who have already passed. And I, like Savannah, have a sterling silver dragonfly necklace that is very special to me.

Truly a heartwarming, satisfying, splendid book.

This is a good book to read when you want to be soothed with a happy love story with a strong element of fantasy fulfillment (there's a very sweet rock star involved). Anne Marie Bennett is an excellent prose stylist who writes natural dialogue, and the book is well-edited. I did feel it suffered a bit from a lack of suspense and thus the pacing through the middle was slower than I would prefer, but I enjoyed returning to it each night anyway during this crazy pandemic time. You'll need some tolerance for dead people as recurring characters (one long dream conversation definitely pushed my limits a bit). Recommended if you enjoy calm, soothing, spiritual fiction with a touch of magic realism. Disclaimer: I know Anne Marie because she's one of my own lovely readers, and we're also both in the Women's Fiction Writer's Association; she provided me with a complimentary copy of this novel.

Bravo Anne Marie Bennett! This is a beautiful story that deals with loss, faith, love and family - which comes in many forms. Anne Marie takes you on a spiritual adventure that hurts your heart a little, brings you peace and shows how friends and family can help you in your darkest days. I was blessed to be selected as an ARC reader for this book and I am so thankful. Truly, one of the most beautiful, heart warming books I’ve read.

One Sentence Summary: Savannah lost her mother and father in the span of six months as a teenager, but her mother continues to watch over her, and helps guide her to Ben, a superstar looking for one true connection.

I don't really consider myself to be a romance reader, but I was intrigued by the metaphysical aspect of this novel, of the idea of a mother continuing to watch out for her daughter beyond death. As a mother of a daughter myself, this struck a chord in me, so I felt I needed to read this story. It turned out to be saccharine sweet, but the constant flow of a mother's love shining through on every page, as well as the maturity both Savannah and Ben showed, made it palatable and just right. The author's note at the end also made the premise a lot easier to swallow.

The Plot: Such a Sweet Story

Dragonflies at Night is a very sweet romance with a touch of the supernatural. Savannah has suffered through several heartaches throughout her life, starting with the loss of both of her parents within months of each other when she was only a teen. But she still feels her mother looking over her from beyond, especially when she sees her mother's favorite creature, the dragonfly. Ben is a wildly popular singer who can't go anywhere without having to travel incognito and he isn't particularly interested in a relationship. But there's a spark between Ben and Savannah when they unexpectedly meet at a yoga retreat.

This is a cotton candy sweet novel, but it's also the most realistic romance I've ever read. Yes, it does fall into the template for a romance novel and, yes, I did find it a little too sticky sweet, but it also really showcases a couple who are established in their lives trying to find a middle ground in which to let their love flourish, who are willing to risk in order to find the happiness and love they both deserve. And, sweetly, the love Savannah's mother knows her daughter will have.

There isn't a ton of tension in this novel. It all unfolded quite naturally and almost too easily for a romance novel, which was actually quite refreshing. Reading it felt more like I was shadowing a couple, listening in on the complications they happen to need to navigate around. I liked that Ben's fame needed to be taken into consideration and that Savannah very seriously and maturely considered what it would mean for her and the life she had worked hard to build for herself. Most of all, though, I adored how mature they both were about their relationship. While most stories would lean heavily on miscommunication and fired up emotions, Savannah and Ben were so mature, so down to Earth, that I couldn't help but know it would flourish no matter what.

But there's another layer to this story, a supernatural element. Savannah lost her mother to cancer when she was a teen, but her mother continues to look after her. I really enjoyed the interludes narrated by Deirdre Rose, Savannah's mother, as it showcased so beautifully and so fully how a mother never stops loving, worrying, and caring about her child. There's a connection between mother and daughter throughout the entire novel that's just so tender.

Dragonflies at Night did seem to unfold a little too easily, a little too conveniently. Of course, there were some hurdles, but they were not of the insurmountable sort. It read more like a fantasy or dream with how easily and quickly it flowed. From love at first sight to the easy slip into a serious relationship with no major issues, this makes for a light read that might have a reader screaming about how unrealistic it is, but that also gives it it's fantasy feeling, one that let's the reader's imagination ask what if?

The Characters: A Couple Made in Heaven

Dragonflies at Night is the story of Savannah and Ben, of two souls that didn't know they needed each other. At the beginning, both seemed quite content with their lives, but meeting each other somehow made their lives more complete.

Savannah is sweet and fun and so incredibly understanding. Despite her losses, it seems that knowing her mother is still watching out for her and loving her from beyond enables her to still love openly and freely. She was neither particularly spunky or quiet and shy, but quite down to Earth and comfortable in her own skin. Ben, for being so famous, was remarkably down to Earth as well. He was humble, but still an artist at heart. Sometimes his incredible focus on his music, even while with Savannah, annoyed me, but it was also kind of endearing since he was so inspired by her, showing her he loved all parts of her and understood her as well and deeply as lifelong partner should. Together, Savannah and Ben were like a match made in heaven. They fit perfectly together, making their love at first sight seem somehow easier to swallow and their romance absolutely magical.

There's also a large supporting cast around them, from Savannah's deceased mother to Ben's bodyguard. From the love and care that surrounds the couple from these people, it's clear they're special. There were times when I did feel doubtful of one character or another, but they really pulled through for their friend, which could make an already sweet story even sweeter, but it melted my heart a little because it can be so hard to find friends who love each other like that.

The Setting: Bi-Coastal

Dragonflies at Night mostly takes place on one coast of the US or the other. Savannah is based in the New England area while Ben makes his home in Los Angeles. I didn't get a clear sense of either location, except one felt more prone to rain and the other had a lot of sun and heat, which let me down a little bit since I live in LA. But I did like that it created a layer of uncertainty, an obstacle for Savannah and Ben to jump over. If anything, dealing with the distance was probably the only real tension and major hurdle in the story, but it was used remarkably well over the entire middle section, keeping it from being a bit of a lull as middle sections are wont to do.

Overall: A Very Sweet Perfect Love Story

Yes, Dragonflies at Night is super syrupy sweet and, yes, the love at first sight and falling in love with a celebrity do seem a bit unrealistic and over the top. But it also worked out really well for this story. Savannah and Ben were the perfect vehicles, especially since they're in their thirties and have lived life a little. Their maturity and understanding made their story easier to swallow, and, honestly, invited readers to indulge in their own fantasies of a romance with a celebrity. I also liked the light supernatural touch and the unwavering love and devotion of a mother. It was neither too much nor too little, but really served to sew the story up nicely. It gave an added layer of depth to Savannah and said a lot about Ben in the way he handled her loss and fears. Overall, very sweet, very tender, but definitely a warm and fuzzy kind of read.

Thank you to author Anne Marie Bennett and publicist Penny Sansevieri for a review copy. All opinions expressed are my own.

Savannah Rose Adams runs a successful party planning company with her best friend, Andi. However, losing both parents as a teenager has affected her in more ways that she realises and has left her terrified of commitment. The last person she expected to meet on a yoga retreat was world famous recording artist, Ben Shepherd…

This is not my normal genre but I really enjoyed Dragonflies at Night; it’s a pure slice of escapism. The beginning from Savannah’s mother’s perspective was incredibly touching and beautifully done, the prose was quite different from the rest of the novel. All the ‘interludes’ were lovely and the dragonfly motif throughout was simple but effective. I thought the spiritual angle worked very well and was not overplayed.

The characters were extremely convincing, even fairly minor ones such as Daysie and Tomas. Savannah and Ben are likeable and individual from the outset, although I did find Savannah grew a touch irritating in parts. I enjoyed how the chapters were structured, flitting between Ben and Savannah’s perspectives in third person and the cult of celebrity around Ben was nailed just right. It can be difficult writing a story between a character who is incredibly famous and one who is not, but Dragonflies at Night maintains credibility and the relationship between Ben and Savannah was completely believable. Dialogue throughout was deceptively well-written, very natural and cleverly used to move the narrative along without you really realising.

Although Savannah has had more than her fair share of grief, it would have been nice for a touch of shade to have fallen onto her and Ben’s romance. There is a brief contretemps but, at times, it is so perfectly wonderful, it did set my teeth on edge with saccharine sentimentality but the writing is so good and there is such a sense of life running through the novel, it’s all quite addictive and I did struggle to put it down – it would certainly make a brilliant holiday read.

Dragonflies at Night; a sweetly satisfying novel that is well worth a look.

This was a beautifully written book, with a message about staying in the present, not being afraid, and understanding that there will be both good times & bad. Life will always have sadness & loss, but you can’t allow that to stop you from looking for love and happiness too. This was such a timely read, especially since I’ve recently dealt with loss myself . I found myself identifying with the main character, Savannah, often throughout the book, as she has also dealt with loss. I really enjoyed it & I’m glad I got the opportunity to read it. This book left me feeling hopeful that happiness can be found when you least expect it.

DRAGONFLIES AT NIGHT, soothe the soul.
Lost their way, seeking the light.

Time of sorrow, hit when young.
The tomorrows took, and left alone.

Along comes one, life's book opens.
World of possibilities, if but trust.

Doesn't come easy, every day questioning.
Happiness and sorrows, come and go.

When you let, light shine through.
Those around you, see the changes.

Brightens their day, and continues on.
So too did, book for me.

Now it's your, turn to glow.
DRAGONFLIES AT NIGHT, at your fingertip.

The key themes of this book are loss, love and family. We meet three main characters: Deidre Rose, Savannah and Ben. There are also some supporting characters which help the storyline move along. This story is told in multiple point of views which at first threw me off on a loop but you know who the chapter is going to be about since they are named to the corresponding characters.

Deidre Rose is Savannah's mom and she passes away due to cancer. The dragonfly symbolizes her throughout the whole story. Savannah is grieving the loss of not just one but both her parents. She does have a great support system through her friends that lift her up when she needs it. She goes to a yoga retreat and falls for celebrity/musician Ben. Their love story is sweet and told in a day by day narrative. By the end of the book a year has passed.

This is my first book by Anne Marie Bennett and she did a great job at having the reader understand that celebrating life in the now is what really matters and that above all things love always remains.
I should note that this is not a Christian Fiction piece. It also teeters on the line of a clean read. When I first signed up for the book I was told that there would be one "closed door" scene but I felt like there were too many sexual scenes, multiple references to nudity and multiple conversations regarding to it as well. I am not opposed to clean reads but just wanted the readers that follow me to be aware.

(I received this book from the author as part of the Prism Book Tour. I was not required to post a positive review. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.)

Wow, one of the best reads this year for me. I am lucky to have read an ARC of this book. It is a story that has the love of a parent and child and the love of a romance between two people that will fill your heart and soul. Savannah loses her Mom, Deirdre Rose at the age of fifteen and associates a dragonfly to her Mother's spirit. She is an owner of Life Celebrations, a party planning business and surrounds herself with friends and colleagues to make a successful business. One weekend she goes on a yoga retreat and meets Ben, a famous recording artist. He might be well known, but he is alone. It's like kismet when they meet. Is it love at first sight? Can the life that Deirdre Rose wanted for Savannah, become a reality, even with her parents gone and now her Aunt Zen also. Immerse your heart and soul into their story, as love transcends the loss of family and creates a new family. This book is truly amazing, bravo Anne Marie Bennett for the joy you have written into this book, to celebrate life, through the power of words and dragonflies at night.

We too often forget that we are here to experience love, not as we think it should be, but as life presents itself. Dragon Flies at Night is a dreamy yet grounded love story. The love at first site romance is exquisite but this book expresses so much more about love. Unspoken but ever present love between a mother and daughter. Solid love of our chosen families. The return of love when we share ourselves with others. Synchronicity love ever so present in nature if we just listen. And if that was not enough, Anne Marie Bennet sprinkles in the magical love that music elicits with a poetic dose of the mystical love in the messiness of illness and death. I prescribe this kind of love for every heart!

Thank you in advance to the author, Anne Marie Bennett, for providing a review copy through Prism Book Tours. A positive review was not required or requested and all words are my own.

What drew me right off to this book by a new-to-me author was that super gorgeous cover. My goodness! Could anything be more perfect? The colors are my favorite so that is a bonus.

But, beautiful covers don’t make a book a great read – it is the characters and plot that drive the story.

The characters in this book are nearly flawless – Ben and Savannah are as darling as can be. I even warmed up to Ben’s bodyguard/best friend Brando, who surprised me as he warmed up to Savannah.

There were other minor supportive characters that are just as wonderful, but it is Ben and Savannah who take the literal center-stage. Ben is one of those celebrities who wants to be seen more as regular person than what he does for a living. Thus their relationship is more about being friends and being themselves than focusing on his celebrity. The author shows some diversity with two minor characters that are gay/bi-sexual. Ben’s sister Lila has a minor role at the end, though I didn’t like how strong she came on with Savannah.

With regard to the plot? Who could not love a story about falling in love with a celebrity, especially one you’re very fond of. Oh, do I have my own wish. And, Bennett’s writing “style” only added to this unique story.

The story is told from multiple POVs. The “ludes” are told in first person either through the departed Deirdre Rose (prelude/ two interludes/postlude), Savannah’s mom, or Aunt Suzanna (two interludes). This is similar to the style of Alice Sebold’s “The Lovely Bones” where the character of Susie is watching her family from her “heaven”. Only it is Savannah’s mother and aunt who are watching her.

The story takes place in six parts with 27 chapters with Ben and Savannah’s perspectives told in third person. Some chapters are long, others are short. They’re named for the characters or scene that is taking place. The prelude is the most heart-breaking part.

I slightly identified with Savannah’s character due to the fact my mother is a cancer survivor.

Bennett takes the readers through a journey – starting with the heart-breaking loss of Savannah’s mom to the beginning of her splendid life. It is interesting that Savannah’s business is called Life Celebrations. The way she treats her staff and appreciates them is precious. She has truly shown bright despite the darkness that took both parents.

When Savannah meets Ben it is instantaneous love. And, I wondered if perhaps her mother had something to do with it.

As soon as Ben meets Savannah his music takes a different direction. Most of his songs are from things she says, does, or his feelings for her. Though, I do wonder how long that would last.

The story for the most part is uplifting and inspiring. There were some things that could’ve been left out. I would have been very interested to see how his fans took to his relationship with Savannah. I would also have liked to know, past one issue, how well Savannah and Lila did get along given the animosity that Lila originally showed.

The relationship factor was definitely whirlwind – by the end the couple had been together a year. Most of the book is about their “day to day” life which could drag down a reader who wants a more concise read.

There are a few “relationship” hookups that are quite predictable, at least I saw them coming to fruition in the story. Some readers may see them, others may not.

There were some punctuation and grammar issues, but they were not that distracting.

This is more or less a “slightly clean” read. I say that because there is no foul language, but one character does take the lord’s name in vain. For some Christian readers, this might be a bit offensive. There are multiple references to nudity. With regard to sex – there are multiple sex scenes, though not told graphically. I was a bit surprised by the amount of sex in this novel as I thought it was one “closed door” scene. There is multiple conversations about the sex as well. This acts as a warning to some readers who might want cleaner content.

The lessons are numerous in this poignant, inspiring, and beautiful story – celebrate the life that is given, long or short; also that no matter what happens, the love remains.

In the postlude, Deirdre Rose has some beautiful words – “we are all made up of light and we can all reflect that that light in powerful ways if we choose”. This is one lesson that is the most important.

Fans of the author or those who enjoy this genre will probably enjoy this. This has some elements of magical realism to it.

There was a sweet moment I enjoyed, yet cried – on pages 320/321, Ben is humming a song that has a very dear meaning to me. It is Art Garfunkel’s “All I Know” which I heard on a TV show back between 2003-2010.

In some ways, every time I hear the song – it is like a message, much in the way the dragonflies are a message to Savannah.

How auspicious can you get - this publication date of 9/22! Purposeful, no doubt, but I still love it! Thanks, Anne Marie, for this touch and for the honor of being an advanced reader. I agreed to provide an honest, unbiased review, so here it it!

Dragonflies at Night is a contemporary romance, featuring elements of spiritual connection and synchronicity. Savannah and Ben meet at a yoga retreat center. Both are taking much-needed breaks; Savannah from her hectic business and Ben from his busy concert touring schedule. Each works to connect intimately with the public. Susannah plans and facilitates celebrations for special landmarks in life, such as baby showers, birthdays, wedding anniversaries. Ben is a singer-songwriter whose songs express his emotions and inspire others.

The author effectively switches perspective as the novel moves forward, with sections by Ben and by Savannah and the occasional Interlude from Auntie Zan and Deirdre Rose to add another dimension, the point of view of the older generation. All the secondary characters are integrated well into the storyline and I can imagine future books featuring these characters.

Each major section begins with quotes from Ben’s songs. Ben writes songs about Savannah and their relationship, many of which are quoted in the text. The reader learns how Savannah influences Ben’s songwriting, as he puts his developing feelings into lyrics and describes their connection. These poignant lyrics give us a window into Ben’s soul.

Ben and Savannah feel an immediate connection when they meet. As they get acquainted, their connection deepens quickly. Other reviewers will surely cover the author’s portrayal of their developing relationship, so I’d like to focus on a different element of the story.

An unusual thematic thread that runs through Dragonflies at Night is hereditary cancer. Savannah’s mother and one aunt died young and the fear that the cancer is inheritable is introduced early in the book. Both the early loss of her mother and the fear of suffering the same fate factor into Savannah‘s personality and her vision for the future. Understanding how these fears affect Savannah’s actions and reactions adds a depth to the presentation of her as a character and to the plot. Kudos to the author for handling this sensitive topic that I have never seen in a novel before. She writes with candor and compassion, portraying the uncertainty and fear. I know this topic intimately and I am impressed with Anne Marie‘s portrayal of the psychological effects of familial cancer.

I found this to be an entertaining read, with much food for thought but without being heavy. I was motivated to continue reading to find out what happened. I appreciated both the content and structure of this novel. I only rate Booker Prize, National Book Award, etc. winners with fives; so this one gets a max of 4, hands down.

Thanks, Anne Marie, and I wish Dragonflies and you all the successes you can handle!

Savannah is the owner of a party planning business called Life Celebrations. Even though Savannah has lost both of her parents as a teenager, she tries to create and foster a positive life for herself. She surrounds herself with friends and coworkers that she treats like family. While Savannah is happy with her life, she yearns to have a family of her own. However, she is afraid of getting sick and leaving her kids without a mother.

Savannah's mom, Deirdre Rose continues to watch over Savannah. Deirdre leaves "gifts" of dragonflies to let her Savannah know she is being watched over.

Ben is a good looking talented recording artist that is looking for more in life. He is famous but, he constantly feels lonely. He fears trusting people because very few people want to know the real him. He feels that most people just want something from him.

However, when Savannah and Ben cross paths at a yoga retreat, they feel drawn to each other. They feel a bond that they never felt before. Savannah wants to know the real him and Ben appreciates and understands Savannah's past. But, when their retreat is over, what will become of their relationship?

I thought the novel had an interesting concept of a mother/aunt looking over their child. However, I felt like the novel was moving very slowly. The characters were interesting but, I couldn't stay interested in the novel. If you like cozy romance with elements of magical realism, then this is the book for you.

First I would like to say that both the title and cover of this book is so visually appetizing to readers. It instantly made me want to read the book before even reading the synopsis (which I will include in the comments).
Reading this novel was like diving into the water of the romance genre, and being completely and totally immersed in a refreshing wave.
It has so many unique qualities to it that I loved, and that make it stand out in contrast to the typical ideas that most authors of the genre fall back on. This is the first book I have read with a celebrity/ “normal” person romance trope, and I had a lot of fun reading it. It was never dry, and always kept me turning pages. The interludes weaved in from Deidre and her sister was so new and different, and I liked how this book switched POVs. I enjoyed the musical theatre references immensely, and how this novel covered some heavy themes without the actual book itself coming out heavy or depressing.
This book definitely has a meet-cute, and I could practically feel the sparks coming off the page from the meeting of the two main characters. Because of this story, I am convinced now that love at first sight does exist. I have always been a skeptic of the idea, though I’d always liked for it to be true.
My only negative comments is that for my personal preference, I would’ve preferred less language and steam. The content is not racy and the language is not overly profane. It is more along the lines of PG-13, but it is included so frequently that it was a bit too much for my taste. Due to my faith, I also disagreed with some of the spiritual aspects involved.
Because of this, I rate this novel:
🌟🌟🌟🌟 /5 stars.

That being said- these are ALL personal preference matters and NOT book quality!!
If these factors are not an issue for you, I can easily see this being a 5 star read. It definitely would have been for me if it wasn’t for this, and I alternated back and forth between 4 and 5 stars myself.
Add it to your TBR and give it a try!

“Dragonflies at Night,” by Anne Marie Bennet, is more than just a love story. It’s a story about overcoming grief, the fear that arises from its confrontation, and the ability to heal with help from the most unlikely of people. In the book, a woman named Savanah experiences a horrible loss as a child due to the death of her mother. Still unable to let go as an adult, she goes on a weekend getaway where she meets a man named Ben. It’s through their relationship that she slowly begins to open up, finds the courage to cope, and realizes that the worst situations in life can be overcome with love.
As someone who went through a similar situation, her story brought me to tears but it also made me smile as it gave me the tools to deal with my own loss. I appreciate that the author told such an unconventional love story, as it showed that love is truly a powerful feeling to help anyone move beyond the struggles that are met after losing a loved one. True love, and the support of others, can be the key to getting through life’s most difficult situations. You just have to let people into your life.
As the book itself said, in a few lines that still resonate with me afterward, it’s that “love is not always easy, but we have each other. The love of others helps us through difficulties.” I highly recommend this book.

There are already some wonderful reviews about the inspiring plot, well fleshed out characters, and the power of love to overcome obstacles. So I will write about how reading Anne Marie Bennett’s novel made me feel. I felt pampered. I felt as if I could relax into this novel and be treated to such a comprehensive experience while reading. Here are some of the things I loved: The colors of the Book cover-blues, purples, turquoise with bright dragonfly wings: the way that the author included song lyrics from the lead male character, Ben, throughout the book; reading the voice of Savannah’s mother, who passed away when Savannah was a teenager; the recurring theme of the dragonfly as a connection for Savannah to her mother; the organization of the voices of both Savannah and Ben throughout the book. I looked forward to curling up at the end of the day and reading a bit more. The author’s writing style allows you to feel present with the characters and their story. And on a side note, a few of the days I was outside, and thinking “i would like to sit down and read a bit more of this book”, a dragonfly was literally flying past me as i was thinking this. So there is that as well. It was meant to be! I am grateful to have received an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. I highly recommend this book for those looking for a poignant romance novel.

Savannah lost both her parents as a teenager but has still built a positive life for herself. She owns a business with her best friend called Life Celebrations that does parties and is very successful. She still feels a connection with her parents, especially her mother, and whenever a dragonfly appears she knows her mother is near. Ben is a talented and popular musician/singer but often feels alone. He wants to find someone who wants to get to know the person he is, not get something from him. When the two meet at a yoga retreat, it's Fate in the making as they feel an immediate connection that goes deeper than the physical.

I received a free ARC of this book from Hidden Gems in exchange for an honest review. This book is absolutely wonderful! It's a tearjerker at times and will tug at your heartstrings throughout. It's a beautiful and moving love story with a spiritual element as we learn the lessons of Dragonfly. The story is about more than the love of two people. It also embraces family, both natural and chosen, and friendships as well as that which comes from those we've loved and lost. I highly recommend this book, it's an absolute must-read for anyone who believes in love.

Dragonflies at Night is a tale about Savannah, a party planner, and Ben, a celebrity singer and songwriter, and the effect their love has on them and the other people in their lives. Savannah, a woman who has suffered loss and grief, harbors fears relating to her long-distance relationship with Ben, while he wants nothing more than someone who loves him for himself.

This novel leans heavily on the romance between Savannah and Ben, and, early on, I thought I knew in which direction the plot was heading, only to be proven wrong. The story conveys an important message of positivity and hope. I especially enjoyed the spiritual connection between Savannah, her mother, and her aunt, along with the symbolism of the dragonfly. Occasionally, the pace is slowed by too much detail, but the author does an admirable job of engaging the reader with well-fleshed-out characters.

Sublime Line: “The power of love is the theme of this well-written story about a couple who have to overcome their fears and insecurities in order to find happiness, while drawing on the support of loved ones, both present and past.”

Right from the beginning, the first sentence, I was hooked. The book started in a place that was so surprising and shocking I had to know more. I am not usually one to like a book that starts in such an odd fashion, but this one is definitely worth the read.

We start the story following one of our main characters Savannah, who after losing both of her parents and going to live with her aunt for the rest of her teenage years, is now a thirty something party planner. Savannah wanted to go to one of her favorite places to unwind and relax, and she never thought she would meet someone so famous. In walks Ben, a celebrity musician, who is looking for time away from the spotlight and for some good yoga. Their two very different worlds collide in the solitude of yoga and the fresh air and everything clicks into place. This book was a wild ride of changing point of views and great storytelling on both sides of the relationship, as well as from Deirdre Rose, our narrator from beyond the grave.

Dragonflies at night is exactly what the title implies. It's more than a love story, it is a narration of love and loss, and a journey of healing for a woman and a man who need this more than they ever thought they would.

Loved this heartwarming story about finding love. The symbol of the dragonfly as a messenger from loving family that have departed the world was lovely. The dragonfly, as per the author (quoting from Dragonflytransitions.com); "symbolizes change, transformation, adaptability and self realization." These themes were illustrated throughout the book.
The two main characters, Savannah and Ben, meet at a retreat center in a yoga class and the instant attraction is mutual. Savannah has a successful business called "Life Celebrations" and Ben is a super star musician and songwriter. They live on opposite coasts and have busy professional lives. As their love blooms, these obstacles are overcome. There is a nice "happily ever after" ending that left me yearning for more.
This story is hugely uplifting and warmly satisfying. I couldn't put it down! I loved the support characters and their story lines as well and am hoping Anne Marie will write a sequel.

This was slightly outside the normal genre for me to read, but I really enjoyed it. I’m not one for straight-up romance – I lean towards the paranormal or darker urban fantasy when not reading serial mysteries. This was refreshing, smart and sweet. I enjoy the theme of love beyond death, and the idea that one can be looked after and loved by someone so much to feel it even after they are gone. Many couples face the kinds of logistical challenges that Ben and Savannah do, if not on the same scale, so it remains a relatable situation. They find support and solace in close friends, and provide healthy examples of ways to stay grounded, open and honest with themselves and each other. Of course, there are stumbles along the way, but they are worked through in ways that normalize healthy boundaries, therapy and communication. I liked the supporting characters of Bando and Andi and would be interested in reading more about the same group of people in future books.

Endearing romance of two people coming together to heal each others soul. Savannah Adam meets Ben Shepherd at a yoga retreat and fell in love at first sight. Question is can their love survive two souls that need healing. Savannah lost her mother to cancer at a tender age of 15. Can she learn to trust love no matter what obstacles life throws at them? Ben as a famous star has hurt by a former girlfriend. Can Ben learn that not everyone is out to gain from his fame? Once I started reading the book I couldn't put it down. I found myself wishing I could find Ben Shepherd's songs to listen to. I could diffently see a play list going along with the book. That and just the idea that a family member who passed away could send us signs to guide us on our journey in life delight me. I have often felt the same thing with signs I see in nature. If your looking for a cheerful read during these hard times this book is it!

I really enjoyed reading Dragonflies at Night by Anne Marie Bennett because it was such a fantastic book about Savannah and Ben. Savannah had been rocked by tragedy in her life and struggling to balance her life. Ben was a famous musician who loved his fans but was lonely. These two meet and thus begins a whirlwind romance that neither expected so quickly. I loved the interaction of Savannah's mom and aunt in between the stories. I teared up at those. I also loved all the dragonfly facts and that dragonflies were the one thing in Savannah's life that was constant. It was her lifeline to her mom. These book made me think about things and tear up a lot. It was such a moving book that I highly recommend reading. I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest opinion. I absolutely loved it.

I like how this story has three main characters, Savannah, Deirdre Rose and Ben. Savannah is a young woman who has her own business, she has been through it and as a teenager has lost her parents, she has a secret and is afraid to tell anyone. Deirdre Rose is Savannah’s mum, she has a thing for dragonflies as they make her feel connected with her mum, and Ben is a guy who is handsome and successful but deep down he is lonely. When Savannah and Ben meet at a retreat, they are drawn to each other, will they tell each other their secrets or will they be wrapped up forever. I love the way the dragonflies play a major part in the story and from now on I will really appreciate them. I enjoyed this book.

This book is very east to read and brought me many smiles. I truly hope that the lessons taught are true: that love at first sight is real, and that love always remains, even after death. I hope that I am contacted someday, somehow, by loved ones who have departed. Other themes that the novel covers are that love is the greatest gift, which affects the couple involved as well as all those around them. And that we cannot live in fear of what might happen. Life is scary, and we just need to live and savor life.

I really like the structure of the book, with parts, chapters, and narrative back and forth between the main characters so that you got to read both perspectives.

If you would like an uplifting story, I encourage you to read this novel. I received an advance copy.

Dragonflies at Night is a riveting novel. The character development is excellent - getting to know Savannah, the lead female character from her youth and the death of her mother and how it affected her. The lead male, Ben, is equally wonderful, a celebrity who has a HUGE heart and is not afraid to show it. The story flows, sometimes leaving me wonder what was going to happen and sometimes making me take a breath as I experience the difficulty that can be a part of such a relationship.

I would recommend this to all who love romance and a bit of mystery. It is well-written and I couldn’t put it down! Thank You, Anne Marie Bennett. I cannot wait to read your next novel!

DRAGONFLIES AT NIGHT is a wonderfully inspiring love story filled with the promise that REAL LOVE is enduring. I truly enjoyed the character development of Savannah and Ben. The honesty in the communication between them is a great example of what it takes to make a relationship strong. Savannah and Ben were mature enough to know who they were and what was important to each of them as individuals. Anne Marie Bennett’s writing filled the book with many great life lessons and surprised me with narratives that kept me excited to read more. While I was gifted this book, it came with no requirement to give it any specific rating. I think you will enjoy it as much as I did! I'm looking forward to more from Anne Marie Bennett!

What an inspiring and heartwarming book by a delightful author! This is a love story about Savannah Rose who lost her parents at the age of 15. She has a successful career as an event planner and goes to a yoga retreat. There she meets Ben, an international recording artist. Is it love at first sight? Their love grows and reaches out to others in their lives spreading love and compassion. But this is more than a love story...it is a story of hope, a story of feeling the love and protection of those we have lost, a story of healing and a story of new beginnings. One of the best books I have read and one that will stay with me for a long time!
I did receive this as an ARC and was asked for a honest review...and to be honest, I wish there was an option to add more stars!
