A lonely track near a rural highway has long been the scene of an unexplained, ghostly light.

It also hides a deadly secret.

When seventeen-year-old Gabe disappears after a visit to the Edge Creek Light, brothers Sully and Dez are called upon to find him. As private investigators, they come with a unique skill: Sully can see the ghosts of homicide victims.

Focused on piecing together the circumstances surrounding Gabe’s disappearance, the brothers quickly find themselves embroiled in a murder case.

Unexpected connections between the teenager and the ghost lead Sully and Dez deep into a traumatic incident that shattered lives.

Uncovering the secret could cost them theirs.

The Braddock & Gray Case Files—a series of standalone ghostly mysteries—follow the events in The Sullivan Gray Series. Enjoyed by fans of Odd Thomas and the brother dynamic of Supernatural.

Raised on a farm on the Canadian Prairies, words quickly became my means of exploring the world around me and giving life to the one created in my imagination. Fascinated by ghost stories and crime fiction, I have been writing both for well over two decades, drawing on more than fifteen years in a career in a criminal justice setting. When not putting Scrivener through its paces, I enjoy reading, portrait drawing, travel and spending time with family and friends.

I really enjoyed the entire Sullivan Gray series. It had mystery, suspense, thrills, ghosts, murder - all the things I need for an entertaining read. Naturally, I wanted to start the next series with Sully and his brother Dez, The Braddock & Gray Case Files. I just can’t get enough of these brothers!

The Edge Creek Light sees Sully and Dez working for Lachlan as private detectives. Their newest case is focused on a missing teenager, whose girlfriend reported him missing after they witnessed the ghost light on the train tracks near the abandoned/destroyed city of Edge Creek. It’s an odd case because the boy’s parents don’t care that he’s missing. On top of that, the ghost light isn’t just a campfire tale. It’s definitely real and there’s quite a bit of ghostly activity going on. In addition, the missing person case has strong ties to a supposed suicide that happened over a decade before. Definitely an odd case for their first one as detectives.

I love Bayne’s style. She does a great job of developing characters, describing action scenes and scenery, and moving the plot effectively. You won’t find any waste of space, so to speak. No dragging sections. No scenes that seem unimportant. Everything clicks nicely. I fell in love with Sully and Dez in the first series. It’s nice to see them develop more and create deeper connections with secondary characters. I appreciate the way Bayne handles issues concerning the indigenous people of Canada. I liked this mystery and the connections between cases. All in all, a great way to spend a few hours of reading.

Good ghost stories!

The Edge Creek Light
By H.P. Bayne
I love ghost stories and this was pretty good first in series. It introduced the characters, which are very interesting. One sees ghosts that died from homicides. They are brothers that are PIs now but were cops before. There boss is strange but entertaining too. It's a good intro to the series!

"The Edge Creek Light" is well-plotted and very well written but it didn't quite work for me. It seems a little cold and clinical with no character development of any sort.
The story links the disappearance of a teenager with the death of his father, apparently by suicide, many years before on the railway tracks where the 'Edge Creek Light' regularly appears.
Private investigators Dez and his psychic brother, Sully, take on the case. In the main it is a traditional murder mystery and, in fact, would remain a solid novel even without the ghostly influences.
If you like your mysteries with a touch of the paranormal then you'll probably enjoy it. But it is not for me.

3.5 stars!

A homicide thriller, complete with a supernatural backdrop. It wasn't scary in the least but, it was an enjoyable read. I do like my stories darker though and that's why I didn't award it 4 stars.

Part police procedural, part paranormal mystery, this is one book you are not going to want to put down! When a teenager disappears at a site rumored to be haunted, Dez and Sully are on the case along with their boss Lachlan who has curious ties to the place as well. Secrets don't like to stay buried, and this case is full of them!

This is a fast paced story with lots of twists and turns and truly repugnant villains, but it has a lot of heart too. The dynamic between brothers Sully and Dez - and Dez's family is constantly evolving. The relationships of the characters they come to know through the investigation is important too. I loved the addition of the reaper and the possibilities that opened up for future stories. Sully is still learning about who he is and his potential as well.

This series pick up a bit after the Sullivan Gray series, but is an independent self-contained story that can be enjoyed without having read Sullivan Gray. That said, Sullivan Gray is an excellent series and if you enjoy this book I highly recommend picking up the boxed sets because you won't want to stop with just one!

The phantom train with the Edge Creek Light is barreling down the track toward Sully & Dez!
Sullivan Gray sees the ghosts of homicide victims and tries to find their killers; his brother, Desmond Braddock, was a by-the-book policeman. Their new private investigation firm gets a case with a strong paranormal phenomenon that even Dez can see, which totally freaks him out. This is one of my favorite series — the suspenseful mysteries run deep, the plots full of heart-pounding danger. The brothers usually wind up battered and bruised, because the living are more dangerous than the dead ... in most cases. I’m hooked on Sully & Dez!

I became fascinated with Sully and Dez and the rest of the characters in the Sullivan Gray series, so I'm so happy for The Braddock & Gray Case Files. This book didn't let me down, it's just as good as the 7-book series I fell in love with. I love murder mysteries, but I also love ghost stories, so this is the best of both worlds. These are stand-alone books, where the Sullivan Gray series was not, but I suggest reading that series first in order to know the characters on a deeper level. The main characters have a strong moral code, which I'm drawn to. And the mystery is solid, with no guessing "who done it," and no unanswered questions. This book was an all around wonderful read.

I was so excited when I saw there was a spin off series, having read all of the original series (Sullivan Gray) I can definitely say this series is just as good! Each book is so unique and builds on characters we’ve already met as well as those that are new to the stories. Won’t say who but absolutely love a new character that is introduced as well as another twist that’s been included. So so happy to be back in the world of Kimotan Rapids and Dez and Sully, will never get bored or reading about them! Highly recommend!

This book is a twisting and turning ride of excitement. Dez and Sully are back and better than ever. This new mystery grabs you and doesn't let you go. I was unable to put down the book until I read every word. The characters are great together and they bring out the best if each other. I like that the characters keep growing and learning. I anticipate reading more from this author. If you are lucky enough to get a book by this author get ready for spine-tingling and hair raising enjoyment.

I loved this mystery that kept me on the edge of my seat. I loved the Sully and Dez series and HP Bayne has brought them back as private investigators who land a case of a missing boy. During their investigation, Sully's ability helps them solve a 17-year old murder. If you enjoy your mystery with a touch of paranormal, you will love The Edge Of Light. I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest review.

Wow, another great book

I absolutely love these books. Sully can see ghosts of people that died through murder and he and his brother Dez and boss Lachlan help. They are private investigators, Dez and Lachlan help the living whilst Sully helps the dead. There is some sadness but also happiness in these books. I can't wait to read the next one and I hope there will be many more to come.

I thought this book was terrific. It takes a talented writer to invoke the chills and thrills that go with this great story and plot solving crimes with the dead’s help. It is fast paced, has good wit and humour, murder and fear. It the whole package, including love and family. Totally clean and awesome.

A great ghost story

If you like things that go bump in the night, you'll like this book. While investigating a missing person case Sully and Dez stumble onto a murder. The murdered person is the father of the boy that's gone missing, the only link is the boy was last seen at the place his father died. If that doesn't give you chills, read the story of will!!

Love!

Again, a great read and a book that gives food for thought. It gives just enough balance between relationships and the other world to stop it feeling like a huge ghost story. The introduction off reapers and the afterlife in the form of a train is interesting. So far I have thoroughly enjoyed all of H P Bayne's books.

Having finished the other books, I've started on the case files and they are as good as the other books, in a way better, because Sullivan is much more assured and confident with who he is and what he does now. Helping a dead person find out who murdered him, through his son who went missing is a brilliant story and very satisfying.

H.P. Bathe is my next writer to follow

Dex and Sully are personable, intelligent and stubborn in the pursuit of justice. Sully's ability to see people who did by violence makes their lives a bit difficult. But it does help solve cases.
