As it turns out, this is a war story. (And a wartime story, as distinguished by Elizabeth Bowen in the postscript to The Demon Lover and Other Stories.) That makes sense, because Kiara has been reincarnated into an RPG rather than an otome game, and as a spellcaster, she's on the front lines and has to deal with what that entails. It's dark, but Satsuki does a good job of balancing out how everyone feels, which includes Kiara being too caught up in other things (like keeping her friends alive) to figure out Reggie and Cain hitting on her. Granted, they don't seem to want her to figure it out either, so...

Anyway, it's different enough from all of the other similar-sounding titles out there, and definitely worth a read.

Didn’t boat my float like the first one did, but outside circumstances have caused me to be less into what I’ve been reading recently. Not the book’s fault. Putting this series down until I can give it the focus it deserves. 3, it’s me not the book, stars.

I really want to give it four stars but some parts of it fanned my annoyance so much that I wanted to drop it. To begin with a positive note, I once again liked all the action though it might have been a little dragged out and some new characters that were introduced, the only reason I pulled through. I actually like the overused trope of kind and pure female lead but here, it's quite distasteful. Two volumes and I am not really seeing any character growth, I understand it's hard to delve into every minor character's psyche as this is only a light novel but god I really can't stand men forcing themselves on the fl and her completely mistaking their intentions, I wish the author would stop running us through this again and again.

I always liked isekai, even more so when the MC is not overpowered and the world feels believable. Book 2 spans just a few battles, and we get to see Kiara's magic and personality grow among the action. The otome drama (potential love triangles, Kiara panicking over little things, forceful men being acceptable behaviour) is at an acceptable level for me and I have seen worse representations of the effeminate muscle guy, but I can see those being a negative for some. All in all, an enjoyable read and I am looking forward to the next part.

Decent

Not as good as the first book,but still decent. There was a bit too much explaining things in the first part of the book. This wasn't as horribly done as other jnovels but seriously, taking the time to explain reincarnation to the reader, even if briefly, in the middle of the second book of a series where the main character is reincarnated? I think it was Kiaras internal monologue that made the book entertaining.

Vol. 2 was a pretty good continuation of the story set into motion by the previous book, although not quite as compelling.

We got some development for most of the main characters, pretty much in the ways you'd expect. I wish the author would give Kiera a more intense character arc, but I also know I shouldn't ask too much of a light novel. Volume two accomplished what it set out to do, with new characters introduced, new places seen, and new battles fought.

Volume 1 shows potential, and volume 2 fritters it away. In volume 2, the story of Kiara, an aspiring spellcaster in a world where magic is usually a death sentence is buried under concerns about who saw her underwear and whether someone is going to kiss her.

It's really exciting to see how Kiara continues to try to change the fate of the characters in this fantasy world she finds herself in. I'm eager to see the development between Kiara and Prince Reggie. She's kind of oblivious to his feelings for her so hopefully there's progress on this.

It’s okay, nicely written, but a bit less enjoyable than the previous volume. Also, a personal thing, but I don’t like how the romance is developing so far? Whatever or whoever it was that brushed Kiara’s lips in her sleep... idk if that’s supposed to be romantic, because I don’t find it to be, and the whole wanting to lock-up-the-person-I-treasure-most just reads as terrifying to me.

Aside from that, the characters are nice, Kiara getting stronger is good, and we’re starting to learn a little about Salekhard’s leader. She’s a good mc so it’s nice to read about her, although she does get off track sometimes.
