Mercury Steele is a womanizer who has left behind a string of broken hearts. Handsome, sexy and downright cocky. An avid collector of classic cars, so when one of his cars got stolen, he was far from amused. It didn’t help when he saw said car in traffic on his way to a meeting. On further investigation he discovered it was being driven by the beautiful Sloane Donahue.

Sloane left home to prove to her parents she could make it on her own. They were intent on forcing her into a loveless marriage all in the name of money. When she refused, her father gave her an ultimatum, his way or the highway. She chose the highway. However, a string of bad luck has since followed her. Despite not being pleased with how the incident surrounding the theft of his car, Mercury offered a helping hand when he discovered her predicament.

This is the twelfth book in the Forged of Steele series and can be easily read as a standalone. Mercury’s brothers whose stories have already been told appears in this installment. I liked the book, but I was not in love with it. I enjoyed the writing, but found the story predictable.

Initially Mercury acted like a jerk, but he changed as the story progressed. I didn’t like how he kept things from Sloane, knowing how much she wanted to prove her independence. The manner in which she discovered the truth was predictable, but her reaction was not one would expect in such a situation.

Sloane’s need to prove herself was understandable, but for someone down on her luck her refusal to accept help when offered reeked of stupidity.

The romance developed quickly and I found to it be unrealistic, given the circumstances and the time frame in which the events transpired. The sexual tension, however, was intense and when they became intimate it was hot and steamy.

Sloane’s father was a manipulative and an evil bastard. His reasons for wanting to force his daughter into a loveless marriage revealed the extent of his depravity. I am glad to see he got what he deserved.

Conclusion/Recommendation
Seduced by a Steele was a quick and easy read, which would appeal to fans of romance with a hint of spice.

Mercury Steele's classic car has been stolen and the police hadn't found it. While driving he realizes that he sees the car. He call the police and then proceeds to follow the car. When the car is stopped it is a beautiful woman, Sloan Donahue, driving it. Said she bought it real cheap and she didn't think it was worth much as it was old. She was on the run from her family who was telling her who she had to marry and what to do.
Mercury is a billionaire playboy and doesn't know what to do with her so he takes Sloan to his mother to deal with her. What he doesn't count on is in helping her find an apartment and get her a bank account, because her dad has reaches in high places to stop her every move. Falling for her is not in his cards.
You could tell these 2 had chemistry off the bat and I enjoyed seeing what was going to happen to bring these 2 together.
I received this from Harlequin and NetGalley for review.

Little spicy HQ romance.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The good thing about these stories is that the structure is still the same so you know what you’re going to get. So I have to say when I dived into the story I was amused but thankful for a book that captured my attention, was well written, and even added a bit of spice that we don’t traditionally see unless you’re reading the Desire series.
The story is an engaging Insta-love that will give you the warm and fuzzies. The surrounding characters are fun and lighthearted and seem to be a family that you would want to be around. Even though this book is part of a series, the book can be read as a stand-alone. Yay, because these Westmoreland brothers are totally hot!
This cozy and warm story is just right for any time you want to escape reality. The right amount of sizzle and spice to keep you happy and begging for more from Jackson!
Pleased to be reunited with the Arizona Steele's. Who can resist six green eyed brothers who exude such male masculinity that it make women purr. I have issues with this short book, as with almost all of Mrs. Jackson's books, I do find them entertaining. What I love the most is the familial love and the reminding that black people can be successful, wealthy, pillars of their communities, educated and loving. It is nice to read about black romance. We need to see ourselves in stories and not just portrayed as baby mamas.
Gannon's story is next. He won't be single for long.
Seduced by a Steele by Brenda Jackson is book twelve in her Forged of Steele series. This is a Mills & Boon Romantic Suspense: Heart-racing suspense, adventure and romance under extraordinary circumstances.
Well-known Phoenix sports agent, Mercury Steele, sees his stolen 1967 Camaro and gives chase. He follows the car and locates it in a mall parking lot in the possession of spoiled heiress, Sloan Donahue. Mercury is livid and Sloan is indignant. Neither can believe the audacity of the other. Mercury doesn’t know what to do with the woman running from her overbearing parents, but his integrity and his mother’s teachings force him to assist the damsel in distress. Is he opening himself to a persuasive seductress or a woman even a playboy could love?
Brenda Jackson is a master of the romance genre and Seduced by a Steele is another bestseller in the making. The characters are strong yet endearing. The backstory brings the reader up to date and makes this twelfth book in a series read like a standalone. The plot is intriguing and the romance adds just the right amount of spice. This is a quick, entertaining read that rates 5 out of 5 stars. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys engaging romance.
My thanks to HARLEQUIN – Romance (US & Canada) and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book. However, the opinions expressed in this review are 100% mine and mine alone.
Disclaimer: I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. First of all, I love that we start off with a car heist thing. I couldn’t imagine what I would do if someone stole one of my vehicles and then was told that they bought it cheap. I couldn’t imagine being in Steele’s shoes especially since I’m pretty sure it wasn’t as cheap as Sloan thought. She’s a mysterious one, an heiress on the run from her family because of issues? I wonder what could be so bad that she had to run away.
Now, Mercury Steele has his hands tied because for some reason, he’s into the mystery that is Sloan Donahue, despite her stealing one of his classic cars for cheap apparently. Do I like her? Possibly. Am I slightly jealous that she is a runaway heiress? Totally. Am I slightly jealous that she caught the eye of one of the famous Steele brothers? Totally yes.
It’s always cool to see how the beginnings of what could be a interesting relationship can form from some of the strangest of circumstances. This one definitely was not an exception. Not only does Mercury have to deal with the whole car thing, but after talking with his mother, he has to pretty much set Sloan up with a place to stay and work on getting her a bank account so she can get out of her family’s control. Could you imagine having to pretty much figure out how to take care of a stranger that you weren’t anticipating? Very, very interesting.
Seduced by a Steele is the 12th book in the Forged of Steele series by Brenda Jackson. I haven't read any of the other books in the series but there isn't really any need to.
The Steele brothers have a reputation for being ladies men, that is until one by one they find love and get married. Two brothers are left single and Mercury Steele is one of them.
He has no intention of settling down but all that changes when he meets Sloan Donahue. She's a beautiful woman who he catches after he sees her driving his stolen car. His precious vintage stolen car.
Sloan's parents have tried to force her to marry somebody she doesn't want to marry. Wealthy families want to make an allegiance and Sloan refuses. Her father gives her an ultimatum, it's his way or the highway, she takes the highway and he cuts off all of her income. She has a small amount of cash but it isn't going to last long especially as she paid money good money for the car that Mercury accuses her of stealing. She explains her circumstances to him and she brings out all the protective instincts in him that he never knew he had. He convinces her to let him help her and from then life is never the same for either of them.
They both have reasons they should stay away from each other but their attraction to each other might just be too strong to fight. If they were to give in to it though would Sloan's father be able to put a stop to them being together? He is a powerful man who is desperate to have her marry the man of his choosing, but why IS he so desperate?
All will become known when you read the book!
I enjoyed the story, I loved Mercury in his role of hero, and of course, he is gorgeous, irresistible, and according to the author is very well endowed which makes for some interesting intimate scenes! Sloan tries to be independent as much as possible despite her circumstances and I love that she doesn't want to just accept anything Mercury wants to buy her just because he can afford it.
The only negative thing about the story is how the author more often than not uses the characters full names when talking about them including their middle names. I saw no need for it and it got quite annoying. I just read the first names and carried on. I just can't see how anybody in conversation with a friend would keep referring to their mother or relatives as their whole names, especially the mother because surely they should just call her mum! Other than that though I did enjoy the book and am looking forward to reading the next book in the series even with all those long names lol.
Mercury Steele is part of a large, very wealthy family and has 5 brothers. He has it all. When his car is stolen, he is sent on a hunt to find his prized posession and finds someone who he was not expecting.
Sloan Donahue has no job, no money and nothing to her name after she finally escapes her manipulative family. What will happen when Mercury agrees to help her?
But soon they both get more than they bargained for.....
I am coming in very late to this series and this is the first in the Forged of Steele series I have reviewed. I got through this in a matter of hours. I was proud of the changes in Sloan and liked then disliked Mercury then liked him.
Quick writing and the pace didn't lag. Sensual. Emotional and realistic. The dynamics of both families are well shown.
At the end of the book, there's an excerpt for book #13, Claimed by a Steele which is Mercury's brother Gannon's story.
I would love to check out the entire series.
Thanks to Brenda Jackson and Harlequin Desire for my eARC in exchange for an honest and voluntary review.
Sorry, the story sounded good, the cover was good but this is just another boring, derivative piece of fiction that seems to appear with monotonous regularity. The characters were stereotypical, boring and predictable. I really must learn not to fall for the ‘hook’ and investigate the author more. It’s not badly written but it didn’t capture my interest at all. I loathe books which have characters without nuance or depth. Just absolutely not my cup of tea. Sorry.
Mercury's story was a lot more interesting than Jonas'. There are just too many books in this series and sometimes its better to quit while you are ahead.
That being said, Mercury and Sloan have great chemistry and I loved watching them fall for one another. The Steele's are a close knit family that really looks out for each other. And that's a good thing for Sloan because she'll need their support to stand against her sleazy, crazy parents.
This is the twelfth book in the Forged of Steele series by Brenda Jackson for Harlequin Desire books.
In some ways I had a hard time believing how naive Sloan was. Her father had run her life, given her an allowance and allowed her to run free. But when she didn’t play by his rules, he completely cut her off financially. She buys a classic Camaro for $300 and when Mercury Steele sees his stolen car on the road, he follows her and wants her arrested. But then he meets this mysterious beauty, hears her story and goes against his better judgement and sends her to his mom for assistance.
I like how the entire Steele family was brought into this at one point to show Sloan how a normal family lived. This story was a really, really slow burn. In fact, I wasn’t sure if these two would drop their guards long enough to fall in love at all. Be prepared for a suspense bonanza here. It made the ending all the more sweet.
The whole situation is definitely a bit hard to believe but the author really pulls a great rabbit out of the hat and makes this a winner of a book. I look forward to picking up other books in this series.
Harlequin books may have a formula to them, but dang! That formula sure works for me!
I received this as an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) in return for an honest review. I thank NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this title.
Having reported his vintage car stolen, Mercury Steele cannot believe it when he catches an apparent thief, Sloan Donahue, driving it. Mercury quickly learns why Sloan has is precious car. What is more is that Sloan is running away from a controlling family. Mercury offers Sloan protection. I loved how Mercury recognized Sloan's reason for distress, and then took her home to his loving parents, particularly his mother, a character I thoroughly enjoyed while reading this book.
It soon becomes apparent that both Mercury and Sloan have feelings for one another. However, Mercury is acting with caution, especially when he finds that Sloan is keeping someone from him. It certainly becomes quid pro quo in this book because Mercury has issues and doesn't communicate well with Sloan at times. This was an enjoyable conflict to read in this book, and it was a delight to see how things worked out, especially as the sizzle of attraction turned into a flame.
Seduced by a Steele is the 12th book in the Forged by Steele series. However, I hadn't read the previous titles. While this does more than well as a standalone novel, I did feel a connection with several side characters that I am sure were from previous books in the series. This delightful book was a quick, sexy read and gave me the opportunity to read a book by Brenda Jackson, something I've wanted to do for quite some time.
Many thanks to Harlequin Desire and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
Good book. Wealthy Mercury Steele made a name for himself, first in the NFL, then as a sports agent. There are two things in life that he enjoys: a wide variety of female companionship and his classic car collection. He's furious when his 1967 Camaro is stolen, and the police can't find it. He's stunned to spot his car one morning on his way to work and follows the driver. He can't believe it when the woman informs him that she bought it for $300 and thinks she got cheated because it's so old. He's glad to get his car back and even agrees to drive the woman home.
Sloan is a young woman raised in a very wealthy family. Everything she needed was provided for her, including a fiancé. But Sloan puts her foot down at this point. She doesn't love Harold, and he doesn't love her. In fact, he intends to keep seeing the woman he does love after he's married. Sloan's father is furious when she breaks the engagement and tells her that it is "his way or the highway." Sloan chooses the highway and goes to Phoenix to stay with a friend. Unfortunately, daddy is exceptionally controlling and ruthless, and she soon finds herself locked out of her bank account and credit card. She is determined to stand on her own, but circumstances work against her.
I loved that first meeting between Mercury and Sloan. Once he gets past the car problem, he can't help but notice how beautiful Sloan is. Despite that, he will drive her home and forget about her as he has the feeling she could be trouble. Sloan sees his good looks, too, but her mind is taken up with her problems. Those problems only get worse when she arrives at the apartment she's sublet from her friend to find she's been evicted. For all of his playboy ways, Mercury can't drive off and leave her, and does the only thing he can think of - takes her to his parents.
As Mercury discovers how badly things are going for Sloan, his protective instincts are aroused. The more he learns about her treatment at the hands of her parents and ex-fiancé, the more he wants to help her. Sloan is enjoying her first taste of independence and doesn't want to rely on Mercury's help, but thanks to her father, she isn't given much choice. I liked her insistence that the help was only temporary and that she would pay him back for everything. I loved her excitement at standing on her own, being responsible for her bills and expenses. I liked the support that Mercury gave Sloan, though keeping the extent of his help from her would come back to bite him later.
I liked the development of the relationship between Mercury and Sloan. He is wary of the effect she has on him. He was burned by a college girlfriend who was more interested in his earning potential than in him and has sworn off relationships since then. Something about Sloan stirs up his emotions, and he tries valiantly to resist them. Sloan appreciates Mercury's help and support, especially when it comes to learning how to deal with her family. I loved the way that she took his advice on "temporary solutions" when her ex showed up to drag her home. The more time that she and Mercury spent together, the closer they grew and the deeper became their attraction. While Sloan recognized her feelings for Mercury quickly, he fought against his. There were a couple of funny scenes with his brothers because they could see what he refused to admit. There's a little bump in their journey when Sloan's father shows up, but Mercury's support gave her the confidence to stand up for herself. There was an interesting twist at the end that explained some things but did not do anything to redeem her parents. I enjoyed Mercury's big moment with Sloan.
I loved the part that the Steele family played in the book. It is clear that there is plenty of love to go around. Eden and Drew Steele are obviously very much in love with each other, something that Sloan had no experience with when it came to her parents. I loved seeing the whole family embrace Sloan and make her feel welcome. I also had fun seeing his brothers tease Mercury about his fascination with her. There was a hilarious scene where they were grilling him but were doing it in Russian so that she wouldn't understand them. That is until she said something to them - in flawless Russian. I laughed out loud at their reactions. I loved how the entire family stood behind her against her ex's threats. There were also some peripheral appearances by a couple of Westmorelands, as well as a link to the Catalina Cove series.
While I haven't read many of the Steele books, I intend to read the others when I can. This one can easily be read as a standalone.
Sloan is trying her best to get out of her parents thumb and goes off to do her own thing defying her parents wishes for her to marry a guy with a side piece. Problem is with every step she goes something keeps happening. Mercury was on the hunt for his missing car and manages to find Sloan and gets to know her story. If you like an alpha who is the type of take control you'll definitely like Mercury. He tried to do everything he could to help Sloan and while she was really trying to assert her independence he was there to help her out and back her up if needed. He was highly generous to the point of being ridiculous. To me that was the flaw of his is I both liked and disliked because the women was really trying to do her own thing and he was kinda meddlesome for someone who bearly even knew Sloan. I loved how caring and supportive his family was they also did their own thing helping out but it was a normal level of help for someone you barely knew. As for the story other then the things that were going on between the two Sloan's father was being meddlesome so it was only a matter of time when he'd show up and I was wondering how things would turn out with that mess. Overall this book was pretty good I really enjoyed it.
I enjoyed this book but it fell a little short for me in some places and picked up in others. The chemistry between these two characters were off the charts even though it was such a slow burner of a read. I wish I could add more to this review but then again it would go against everything I believe in which is not to spoil the book for anyone who is looking forward to reading it so I'll stop right there.
Nobody writes sexy, intelligent and charismatic heroes quite like Brenda Jackson and she is back with a red-hot tale of scandal and seduction readers will devour in one single sitting: Seduced by a Steele.
Mercury Steele is passionate about two things in his life: beautiful women and vintage cars. With a notorious reputation as a playboy, the gorgeous billionaire can have any woman he wants – and he frequently does! While nearly all of his brothers have found their soulmate, Mercury has absolutely no interest in shackling himself to a woman for the rest of his life. He is perfectly happy playing the field and keeping his relationships casual and devoid of all feelings and emotions. And as for having a family, his collection of vintage cars are his pride and joy and the only children he will ever have in his life – or so he thinks. When one of his prized possessions is stolen, Mercury is devastated, but when a chance encounter propels him straight into the path of the ‘thief’, little does he realise he is about to get a lot more than he had ever bargained for…
Sloan Donahue is a woman determined to stand on her own two feet. Having spent her entire life being spoilt and cossetted by her parents, Sloan never wanted for anything. Whatever she wanted or needed was delivered to her on a silver platter, but she soon realized that there was a very high prize to pay for this level of luxury. Her parents have arranged a marriage for her to a man whom she does not love and who has made it perfectly clear fully intends to continue seeing his mistress long after the ink has dried on their marriage certificate. Sloan is not about to put up with this, so she decides to stop being a spoilt princess and live life on her own terms. But being an independent woman with no money and no support system is certainly not a walk in the park as she discovers. With less than a couple of hundred dollars to her name, Sloan needs to get a job and find somewhere to stay. Having spent a large chunk of her money on a beat-up old car, Sloan is overjoyed when she schedules a job interview. But all her plans go awry when she is accused by billionaire playboy Mercury Steele of stealing his car!
Mercury was incandescent with rage when he realized that Sloan Donahue had stolen his prized vehicle – even though he grudgingly had to admit that she is one of the most attractive women he has ever met. Although their first meeting is not exactly promising, Mercury soon realizes that Sloan was not a thief but a woman who had fallen on hard times who had been duped. Unable to stop thinking about her or to let her fend for herself when everything seems to be stacked against her, Mercury’s gentlemanly and protective instincts are fired up – as is the flame of desire that sizzles between the two of them.
A red-hot affair quickly ensues, but as things get far more complicated between the two of them, can they forge a future together? Or will Sloan’s secrets ruin any chance the two of them might have of a future together?
Brenda Jackson turns up the heat with her latest novel for Harlequin Desire, Seduced by a Steele. A red-hot tale that sparkles with sensuality, danger and desire, it is impossible not to root for Sloan and not to fall madly in love with sexy playboy Mercury.
An intense, emotional and passionate love story peppered with humour, scandal and drama, Seduced by a Steele is another winner from much-loved author Brenda Jackson.
This is the first book I’ve read by author Brenda Jackson. I’m not really sure what prompted me to buy it? I must have gotten a recommendation from one of the authors who regularly send me emails about new books or perhaps it was a recommendation by Amazon. Since she was described as a Best Selling author, (one of thousands I’m guessing) I thought I’d give it a shot even though it wasn’t available on Kindle Unlimited. I believe it to be the 5th in a series based upon the Steele family. After reading this story I suspect there are several more books based upon extended members of the family.
I guess just based upon the lead male character’s name, Mercury Steele, I should have guessed it would be a bit over the top. As I read the first few chapters my thought was the characters have no depth. They’re one dimensional. Mercury’s parents were too caring, too kind, thoughtful and wise. Sloane the female lead was too cluelessly naïve for a 25 year old college graduate and her parents were too cold hearted and manipulative. The authors voice felt too stiff and proper with everyone speaking in perfectly eloquent grammar. Once I realized this was sort of like the old seventies prime time soap operas Dynasty and Dallas on steroids, I just decided to sit back and go with it and it was a hoot!
After having his heart broken in college by a gold digger, Mercury is a confirmed player. He doesn’t do love. He does causal with plenty of orgasms. Despite the fact four of his five brothers are now happily married, Mercury is holding fast to the Bad Boy Steele’s banner. He’s not about to fall in love. Which is why he can’t understand why he’s so completely emotionally as well as physically drawn to the gorgeous Sloane. He’s going to fight the attraction for all its’ worth but a man can only be so strong.
Sloane a rich heiress has led a sheltered life. She’s about as naïve to the way the world works as a new borne babe. She buys Mercury’s prized stolen classic Camaro off the man who stole it for $300.00 thinking she over paid for an old car but felt sorry for the guy selling it. When Sloane’s parents try to force her into a loveless marriage to a man who tells her he has ever intention of continuing his relationship with a woman he really loves after they’ve wed, Sloane rebels against her parents. It’s then she becomes aware that living off of their money her whole live has allowed them to control and manipulate her and they’re not going to willingly give up that control. Seriously the fact that it took Sloane until she was 25 to come to this realization, really made me question just how much common sense she possessed.
This is a fairly predictable story with only one startling revelation near the end. The angst is minimal, the happy feels from the Steele’s big supportive family are many, there’s plenty of steam to keep this a not for under 18 story. Fun, enjoyable, quick read. I can see why Ms. Jackson is so popular.
I was disappointed. This book was so much like the last book I read by this author that it seemed like just the names changed.
I really, really wanted to like this book. It was boring. All the brothers in this series seem to be carbon copies of each other. Is it possible for one of them to have a personality? Maybe be a little less arrogant. I think it is the arrogance that really bothers me.
They always talk about being taught to respect women, but sleep their way through whatever city in which they live, ALL the women want them, and these men consider themselves as being respectful of women because the women know the score upfront. Then, the brothers that have gotten married, stand around and talk to the single brother with such a judgmental tone. Like they were not doing the exact same thing before they got married. And let's not forget the whole TLC thing, really?
Then we have 25 year old Sloane. She exceeded being naive. She had no common sense. She obviously didn't spend all her time around her parents. She had at least 2 friends that seemed to be self sufficient. Didn't she ever pay attention, talk to them, wonder how they lived?
Sloane went from being taken care of by her parents to being taken care of by Mercury. And it took them what, 4 days, maybe a week to fall in love? I felt like they had a bit of chemistry, but no chance for a relationship to build. Mercury was too busy propping Sloane up. I don't believe they had a date, one adult to another. When they did something together outside of helping her build her life, there was no detail given. It was mentioned. I felt there was more time communicating with the Steele brothers then there was building a relationship with Sloane.
This book seemed short to me believe it or not. It can be read as a standalone, but if you haven't read any of this writer's other books, you may be a little confused. When you start reading about the Westmoreland's who married the other Steele's or someone else who is the cousin to a Steele husband who happened to be a Westmoreland, it can be a bit much.
I want to read Gannon's book just because I have come this far. But then, I don't want to because if I get pretty much the same story again, I am going to be disappointed. The early Westmoreland and Steele books is where I became hooked on Brenda Jackson. Maybe I should just re-read those books.
This is the 12th book in Brenda Jackson's Forged of Steele series. Mercury Steele the fifth of six brothers has sworn against marriage. At one time, all of the six handsome green eyed brothers had the reputation of being ladies' men but that changed when the oldest brother down to the fourth brother started falling in love and getting married. One of Mercury's vintage cars gets stolen and he found it in the possession of a beautiful woman down on her luck, Sloan Donahue. She was a newbie in town who had ran away from her wealthy parents to avoid an arranged marriage. She had bought the stolen car for a pitiful amount of $300. After dealing with the police and Mercury, Mercury drove her back to her friend's apartment where she was planning to stay for a month. On getting there, they found her belongings being thrown out by the landlady because the check for rent payment bounced. Mercury decided to take her to his mom to stay. From there, he got her an apartment and a car secretly in his name and pretended that they were in her name because he knew she was broke and he gave her a 'loan' until she could get a job. They started having sexual sparks between them right from the time they met. By the time Sloan knew that the house and car were not in her name, Mercury had already had a change of heart and changed those properties to her name as he was in love with her.
I enjoyed the book although I already knew what to expect with this book i.e. boy meets girl, sexual sparks fly, both deny the attraction and then, they eventually accept their passion for each other, the end. The author did not make the book boring in order to reach the ending. I like the sexual tension and descriptions of the characters and their feelings. However, I feel like the end was rushed because Sloan easily forgave Mercury for his deception on the issue of ownership of her car and apartment. It also seemed a little unrealistic for a man to help a woman in the way Mercury helped Sloan. But what do I care, what with all the sizzling in the sheets between a handsome chocolate guy and a beautiful, curvy woman? Haha! Then, there is no gang banging with deadbeat dads and baby mamas as is often common with stories that have African Americans as major characters.
Mercury Steele is one of the last Steele brothers that has not fallen under the love spell. The way he figured it, it was his and Gannon’s job to keep the single ladies happy. Mercury Steele is about to have his busy life flipped upside down by a powerhouse sure to cause him a bit of trouble. I enjoyed Mercury Steele so much from the previous books in the Forged of Steele Series.
Sloan Cunningham was quite the little surprise for me, so thank you again Brenda Jackson for such a memorable heroine. Sloan’s world is take a turn that could end her or make her a stronger person, the one big draw for me is this heroine don’t go down without a fight.
I enjoyed the interesting vibes between Mercury and Sloan, resistance is futile. *grins* Sloan is finding after everything she is stronger than she thought and she can with a little help be on her own. Mercury is determined not to give his heart to another, after his ex simply crushed it. In all actuality both Sloan and Mercury seem drawn to help each other, to show each other that whoever they ended up with the person would be very lucky to have them.
The supporting characters are fun and intense as always, never lacking in family fun and drama. I am seriously looking forward to Gannon’s fall. There is a question I have, Will there be a spin-off from the Forged of Steele Series Mrs Jackson ?
Heartfelt family moments, characters that will stay with me for years to come, even Sloan’s nasty family had grabbed my attention from the beginning. Brenda Jackson is known well for her ability to create passion so powerful between her characters this it’s hard not to get loss in her characters. What is with these Steele men, from the father too the youngest they make my heart flip.
Seduce by a Steele is the 12 story the Forge is Steele series .In this story, Sloan Donahue is against the arranged marriage her parents are trying to force on her. To escape a marriage where she knows a mistress will be involved, Sloan flees Connecticut to avoid a loveless marriage. While there she buys a stolen car and has a run in with the owner Mercury Steele. She explains her circumstances to him and Mercury took it upon his self to help her gain her independence . He had no idea that he would lose his heart in the process. I was so excited to read another Steel novel but I can honestly say this book was disappointing. Sloan was naive to the point where it was unbelievable. I get having rich parents to take care of you but the reckless decisions that she made was just ridiculous.I had a real hard time believing that they actually fell in love.They didn’t spend any time together. Mercury spent the whole book avoiding her, pawning her off on his parents and convincing himself that he wasn’t attracted to her. When exactly did we witness them fall in love? I’ll wait. I understand and respect the fact that Sloan wanted to be independent but if we are honest here, she wasn’t . Mercury still took it upon himself to “take care” of everything so in actuality she was still “dependent” on someone. Just not her parents. Speaking of parents. They are really horrible people. I expected a complete resolution when it came to the horrible situation concerning her father. I felt like it wasn’t properly handled . We got no resolution. This story felt rushed and underdeveloped. While I did love meeting up with the Steele family, I couldn’t help but feel unfulfilled.
Brenda Jackson has done it again.
I love her way with words and characters are phenomenal.
I would love be a relative of the Steeles.
Brother # 5 Mercury of the Steeles of Phoenix "The Bad News Steeles" has recently had one his prize possession car stolen and reported it as stolen to the PPD. While out on his way to work he spots his car and phones into the PPD and decides to follow the culprit. Sloan Donahue, didn't steal Mercury's car she actually purchased it for $300.00. Sloan left her home town of Cincinnati because she is being forced into an arranged marriage which she was going along with until she finds out that her fiance' is already seeing another lady and is refusing to give up and that said lady with be a integral part of their marriage.
Sloan informs her parents and they want her to go thru with the wedding. Sloan's mother married for money and wants Sloan to do the same.
Sloan is experiencing Murphy's Law what will go wrong will wrong. She wants so much to be an independent but how can she when she has no money, no car, no place to stay because her parents have cut her off until she comes to her sense and marries Harold. Mercury feels responsible for her so he decides to help her with being independent. With Mercury's help things are slowing coming around for Sloan until her ex Harold shows up one and her father shows up another. They do know who they're messing with "The Bad News Steels" of Phoenix.
This was a awesome love story. Another Steele bits the dust. Next in line is the baby of the bunch Gannon who will capture Gannon's heart and then there will be no more "Bad News Steeles" left.
Mercury Steele is on hot pursuit of the thief that is driving his stolen car! He is bound and determined to capture the thief red handed. When he pulls up to his car in a parking lot, a very pretty young woman named Sloan and she tells him she didn’t steal it, she bought it. Now they are both off to the police station to straighten the matter out.
Mercury finds out that Sloan is trying to make a new start in a new place after running away from an arranged marriage and controlling parents. She has no money, no job and no where to turn. Mercury decides to take Sloane to the only safe place he knows, his parents house.
Soon the whole Steele family is trying to help Sloan and Mercury is determined to stay away as he doesn’t need another woman in his life that will break his heart. How long can he stay away after a few stolen kisses start heating up his body and his heart?
I loved this feel-good story of family, loss and love. It was fun to meet all the Steele brothers and the author Brenda Jackson did an excellent job of filling in all the information of the supporting characters. I read this as a stand alone novel but I would love to go back and read the whole “Forged of Steele” series. An excellent book to curl up with this Spring. A big thank you to Ms. Jackson, Harlequin and NetGalley for an advanced copy to read and review.
They’re back! Those six ultra handsome brothers with the Smokey Robinson eyes who are also known as the Bad News Steeles of Phoenix, Arizona. There are only two remaining single brothers, Mercury and Gannon. SEDUCED BY A STEELE is Mercury’s story. From the first chapter, the reader is quickly engaged when Mercury, a car collector, spots his vintage car on the street that he reported stolen. What are the chances! Of course he calls the police and follows the car until the driver parks it at a shopping mall. The confrontation between Mercury and the female driver marks the beginning of an intriguing story. Enter Sloan Donahue, the driver and “thief” of the “stolen” car.
Loved, loved, loved revisiting the Steele family of Phoenix, headed by Drew and Eden Tyson Steele, that has grown with the marriages of four of the brothers. If you are not familiar with Galen, Tyson, Eli and Jonas’ stories, I recommend them. At the opposite end of the side characters spectrum are the parents and want-to-be husband of Sloan. These folks are a piece of work. However, the Boo-Hiss Award goes to Sloan’s father, the pretentious Carter H. Donahue. I’ll let you discover why. As bad as he thinks he is, he is no match for the incomparable Mercury Steele. The Epilogue houses a wonderful HEA.
The whole Steele series had a lot of promise when it first started but now its like a bad soap opera that introduces lots of convolutions hoping one of them will revive the ratings. Creating a series that is energizing and engaging is hard work but very few authors can pull it off as most of them take the easy way out with repeat characters who get dragged with their HEAs and not actually adding to the plot.
The h isn't truly a woman, she comes across as a teen exploring independence. The h here is under an illusion that she is finding her independence but its the H who has been propping her up with the car and apartment. She only learns about this in the last chapter but even know her independence wasn't hard won, she just goes on to declare her love without once confronting that she isn't strong enough to be on her own or achieve happiness on her own. The timeline for this entire romance barely spans a few weeks is ridiculously short for a book with 21 chapters and this insipid girl trying on big shoes was rather disappointing.
MERCURY STEELE LIKE THE PLANET IS HAWT!!!
Seduced By A Steele is a quite story with a sizzling punch of romance and steam. Mercury Steele is one of the last remaining Phoenix Playboys. He meets Sloan in a surprising meet cute I truly savored. No matter how much alpha vibe Mercury gives off, he is still your typical male: he sees his vintage Camaro first and a beautiful woman last.
Sloan is running from her family and embracing her new independence. She is determined to live life on her own terms. Because of her privileged past, it’s charming to see her embrace the new world of budgets and bills while falling for a handsome, smart and successful billionaire.
I’m a sucker for a unique meet cute. When Mercury meets Sloan, it made me smile with happiness. I knew I was going to enjoy a beautiful afternoon reading an exceptional story with real characters and no unnecessary angst.
If an easy Sunday afternoon with a delightful contemporary romance gives you joy, Seduced By A Steele is the story for you. Mile High Kink Book Club recommends The Steele Brothers for your reading pleasure.
Another Brenda Jackson read for 2020!
Since Ms.Jackson is the queen of Harlequin Desire, the majority of her books are available on audio. When I get a great narrator, I actually really enjoy listening to romance. Besides giving my screen-addicted eyes a break, listening to a story is a new art form I've grown to love during this hellfire year.
Mercury and Sloan's story started off great! Inadvertently stealing the hero's prized car? What a hell of a meet-cute! I really liked the Steele family. Sloan started off as a poor little rich girl but proves to be down to Earth wanting to be financially independent. I loved that the story took place in Phoenix, though I wish we got more of a glimpse of the setting. The author really knows how to create comradery amongst the brothers. What I didn't like about the story was a slow burn. I'm a reader who likes sexy times by at least if not before, the halfway mark.
Nice distraction after a very anxious few days waiting on a publisher to get back to me and now the U.S. elections upon us. Matter of fact, I think I'll be reading even more in the next few days...
A nice love story
I've read a couple of Brenda Jackson's novels in succession, and they all have similar parts: biting lips, running hand down face, and characters very sexy/handsome/beautiful. That's the only reason this story didn't get 5 stars. I know it's a formula boy meets girl, they hate each, there's an attraction, they can't fight the attraction, there's something holding each other back, they give in, they fall in love, some misunderstanding happens (which is quickly resolved), and they live happily ever after. The names have been changed, but sometimes I feel like it's the same story. The sex is hot! The men are all handsome Alpha males. The women are all beautiful and sexy. Once in a while I like to read about people with average looks who fall in love, because some of the people who read romances need to see themselves in the story. If you want to see yourself, Brenda Jackson's novels are not for you, unless you are beautiful and sexy. I still do recommend it to all her fans and romance lovers, because the story of how this couple met is interesting.
