About the author

Dr. S. Revathi (pen name: Kutti Revathi) is an Indian lyricist, poet, activist and a doctor. She has published three books of poetry and is the editor of Panikkudam, a literary quarterly for women's writing and also the first Tamil feminist magazine. Post several literary meetings and reviewing poetry collections by fellow students, she began working on some of her own pieces. Following school, she studied Siddha medicine and got a bachelor's degree in Siddha medicine and surgery, one of the oldest medical systems in the world that derived from her native Tamil Nadu. She had been pursuing her doctoral research in medical anthropology at the Madras Institute of Development Studies in Chennai. Revathi received the Sigaram 15: Faces of Future award for literature from India Today and was awarded a travel grant in 2005 by the Sahitya Akademi to meet leading litterateurs from India. She is a contemporary Tamil poet and has published numerous poetry collections.

The book has short stories of people we see with various impacts on psychology

விரல்கள்-
இந்த புத்தகத்தை நான் இந்த ஆண்டின் புத்தக கண்காட்சியில் வாங்கினேன். எனக்கு யாரும் சிபாரிசு செய்யவில்லை, ஒரு வித தேடலின் நிகழ்வில், இதை நான் தேர்ந்தெடுத்தேன்.

எது என்னை தூண்டியது என்று என்னால் சொல்ல முடியவில்லை தெளிவாக. ஆனால் இதன் அட்டை பட ஓவியம் ஒரு காரணமாக இருக்கலாம். மற்றும் இதன் எழுத்தாளரின் பெயர், குட்டி ரேவதி எங்கேயோ கேள்வி பட்டதாக உணர்வு. மன்னிக்கவும். என் அறியாமை காரணம், அமோக எழுத்தாளர்களை நான் அறிந்திருக்கவில்லை. சீக்கிரம் அது மாறும் என்று நம்புகிறேன் ஓர் அளவாயினும்.

அதுவும் பெண் எழுத்தாளர்களின்பால் மீது எனக்கு பெரிய ஆர்வமுண்டு, பெண்களின் மீதுள்ள ஓர் விருப்பமான மற்றும் ஆழ்ந்த உணர்வும் ஒரு காரணமாக அறிகிறேன்.

இந்த புத்தகம் பல குறு கதைகளின் தொகுப்பாகும், ஒவ்வொரு சிறு கதையும் என்னை ஈர்த்தும், தமிழ் புத்தகங்களை நான் மேலும் வாசிக்க வேண்டும் என்ற உணர்வை மேலும் வலுவூட்டுவதாய் உணர்கிறேன்.

ஒவ்வொரு கதையின் மாந்தர்களும் அவர்களின் எண்ணங்களும் கதைகளும் அவர்களின் ஆழ்ந்த உணர்வுகளும் ஒரு பெண்ணின் வாயிலாக அறிவதில், வாசிப்பதின் இன்பமே இனிமையாக உள்ளது. இது என் எண்ணங்களை மேலும் விரிவு படுத்துவதாக அறிகிறேன்.

இந்த கதைகள் நிஜமாக நிகழும் கதைகள் ஆயினும் அந்த கதைகளுக்கும், சில கற்பனை மிகுந்த மற்றும் கற்பனையை தூண்டுகிற கதை சொல்லல் விதம், என்னை மிகவும் கவர்ந்ததாக உணர்கிறேன். மிகவும் எளிதான நடையிலும் மற்றும் என் தமிழ் அறிவை சிறுது மேம்படுத்த உதவியதாகவும் இதை கருதுகிறேன்.

கண்டிப்பாக குட்டி ரேவதி அவர்களின் மேலும் பல கதைகளின் உள்ளே உட்செல்ல விரும்புகிறேன். இங்கே தொடங்கி...

This book is a collection of short stories that deals with serious issues like abuse, trauma, child sexual abuse, honour killing etc. All the stores are written very well. The tamil was poetic and beautiful. Coming to the content of the stories, it was a bit difficult to digest. Almost all of them had a bad ending. Every story had a deep foreboding in the form of dreams or fantasies. Especially the very first story stood out for me in the way it is told. The fate that befalls segar is gutwrenching. Then the girl who lives in a huge house all on her own, the girl who wanders as a ghost along the river, the nun who experiences severe PTSD, all of them have experiences that choke us. It made me think of the varied kind of experiences that people have and the horrifying markers of abuse. I reduced one star for the incredibly morbid endings. Almost all of them have either a murder or suicide or someone goes mad. The preface tells that the book is about relationships between a man and a woman. But they were all fraught in one way or the way. They were torn down by the society or by themselves. It was almost dystopian in that sense. Anyways, it is a very good collection and would highly recommend it.
