I read about 40% of this book, and I can see myself revisiting parts here and there.
This is a good book for beginners. I just happen to be too far along in my own journey (10 yrs+ of self-employment, both full-time and on the side) for most of it to be relevant to me. I already know what type of business I'm running, how I optimize various aspects to keep them lean, and so on.
For someone just starting out, it provides a good overview of the different options and what's possible. The case studies are well-researched and crafted, and you revisit different business owners throughout the book.
Given its original publication date and references, the book might feel a tad dated to someone who's up to speed on their current, local or online small business scene. The books Pofeldt recommends in the end are all from the first half of the 2010s. Tim Ferriss, James Altucher, Chris Guillebeau, etc. They were books I read when I was starting out. I'd still recommend those books, but this one almost feels like it "graduated" together with these other books, despite being written a good deal later. Still, Pofeldt updated it post-COVID, which makes for some new insights.
If you want to start your own, potentially one-person business, but don't know where to start and haven't read any books on the subject, this one is not a bad entry to pick up first!
clear, lots of samples to get inspired and tools / websites to support for your career path changjng. Not the unique formula but options/ thoughts to optimize for your own business. Good to look.
It *looks* like it took me a while to read this book, but what actually happened is that I read the first two chapters from the library and decided that I needed to buy this book instead. It was excellent! Lots of resources at the back and in general, asks great questions and things to think about/reflect on.
Great resource for starting a business. Full of resources and stories of how entrepreneurs started their businesses, overcame obstacles, and grew their million dollar businesses.
