I hate trying to write reviews because there are really only pass/fail results for me. Did I make it all the way through? Yes? 5 stars. No? There would be nothing here to read. In all fairness, if an author holds my attention from page one to the end, they’ve done their job. Anything less than 5 stars is petty criticism from someone incapable of even doing the job let alone doing a better one.
So in respect for the author and their work, I am going to start pasting this along with a generic review I found somewhere. “This was a fun book. I am glad that I read it. You should try it too.”
Now, since I have to keep explaining myself to people who don't like my reviews, I guess some clarification is in order.
1. I am 100% against criticism for works of art. Art is subjective, meaning reviews are irrelevant. The observer's opinion is only relevant to the observer. It is my belief that regardless of what others might say, I have to experience the art for myself.
2. I read upwards of 20 books a month. The $10/month I spend on K U, feels like I am cheating the authors. But since I can't afford 20 books a month if I were to purchase them directly, all I can offer is a positive review. That leads us to the final point.
3. If I get to the end of a book, then it was worth my time. I give those books 5 stars because it helps the author get exposure. That is the only reason I write reviews at all.
I understand that people are people and they are going to do what they do regardless of my stance. I know the way that I review books upsets some people. I am sorry they feel that way but as many have said, they will just ignore my review going forward. In fact, if you made it this far through my review, you should definitely read the book and completely ignore all of the reviews here. You are a much better judge of what you will like than anyone here.
I was looking for a good action story with character levelling and nasty enemies to fight. The way the author was able to keep the story moving without making the hero to powerful seemed just right. This story as it moves to the next book is going to get even better. I am looking forward to it.
Overall strong plot. Had me guessing on what was to happen next and how challenged for the MC were going to be met.
There were a couple cons I did see. The MCs progression was very slow. His defeat against one of the main antagonists was also not very believable at such a low level. The author consistently reminded the reader of the MCs skillset seemingly foreshadowing how it would help him overcome his challenges and yet they were rarely utilized. But overall it was a good book and a fun read.
Great read! Moves away from the cookie cutter edgelord main character
Such a great read! After reading so many of these "game world" booms. You start seeing a pattern or trend of what makes a main character. You get all those edgelords that somehow always get shadow powers. More than that though. You usually get a character that, when transported to their new world, has many advantages granted to them by either that works or some otherworldly god.
Yeahhhh, you're not gonna get that here. Imagine coming to a world that doesn't even want you there. Now imagine teleporting as lvl 1 straight into their hands. Read the book to find out what happens.
Pretty good story here. I've seen similar scenarios before, but this one is handled very well, and the story is enjoyable. If you're a LitRPG fan, you shold have no trouble enjoying this one, even if the emphasis seems to be on irrelevant things at times. If you're not the LitRPG type, then don't worry, there's nothing here that will force you to begin reciting facts and figures due to skills gained, stats raised, and the like. Oh sure, there's a bit of that, (It wouldn't be LitRPG if there weren't), but I believe the story would be enjoyable to everyone, even if you're not familiar with LitRPG elements.
I was drwan in by the blurb and it paid off. The writing is a bit rough (the characters felt a bit restricted in their dimensions and some scenes could habe been a tad more description) but you can tell the author had a clear vision of where he wants to take the story. The 'game' system seem solid if a bit underexplored. Overall I think this is a great first book from the author and I'm excited to see where the story goes from here.
I went in with no expectations. The novel was polished and well written. I had one minor disagreement with the mythology that nagged at me for awhile, but the author cleared it up later in the story. Will be keeping an eye out for the second book. Good story crunchy stats but not awful like that absent father or genre who shall not be named.
Feels like it was written by tween that has seen to many b rated movies. It's just cliches stacked on top of bleh storytelling..... I can't help but imagine the author wrote this wearing a fedora and pounding mountain dew while sitting next to thier knockoff sword collection.
The story was great, what I like most of it is that the character seems realistic, in the face of using powers. The way the Author mashed in bits of the characters past throughout the book give a solid foundation of a main character you can really connect with as well as engaging villains and allies.
It was a bit slow to start but the characters felt real however there were alot of typos and line breaks. The rpg elements were solid. I would give it 4.5 if I could and I look forward to book 2.
Didn't expect much picking this up, but I was surprised by how well written it is. Good story, good characters, and my only complaint is that it was too short and doesn't have the sequel yet.
A good start , well thought out plot and good charachter. The game mechanics are standard but i like the way that your experiences in life affect your affinities. Also the main hero could end up with a really dark side .
Very well done. The character development is kept at a good pace. Most of the Litrpgs I've read have their MC start out as an over-powered badass. I'm looking forward to the next book. Keep up the good work.
I'll keep ot short. I really enjoy the mitary stand point of the main character. Its how I would imagine it to be. Fast paced and definitely kept me reading. Ill be looking out for next one. Definitely give it a chance.
I enjoyed this entry into the series and game world. Looking forward to the next entry, and how the relationship between Christian and his pet evolves.
