Two White Pills

Rate this book
Some days are good. Really good. But then there are the bad days. The days I dread. The ones that make me wonder if life is worth living.

That’s why every day of my life begins with two white pills.

Molly Taylor is a college student trying to keep up appearances.

Adam Hoffmann is a local police officer who just wants to forget.

Against the backdrop of their idyllic seaside town, their darkest fears are constantly looming just out of frame. For Molly, it’s the two white pills she takes each morning to keep the obsessions and compulsions at bay. For Adam, it’s the impending anniversary of the death of a fellow officer he was responsible for.

As Molly and Adam’s paths collide, it becomes harder for each to hide from the truth. But amid all of the chaos and the lowest of lows, Molly and Adam will have to make a choice: will they be brave enough to choose life? And willing to live with the consequences?

Is it possible to find hope when you’ve hit rock-bottom?

Kelli Thalman is looking for a way to change the way the world views mental illness. Struggling with OCD herself, and living in a household with a husband and four sons who all have some diagnosable form of anxiety, this fight is not one that she takes lightly. A graduate from UC Santa Barbara, Kelli spends the majority of her time homeschooling her kids, supporting her husband, and trying to squeeze the joy out of every moment. When she’s not trying to figure out how her house is in a constant state of chaos and where all of these never-ending piles of laundry come from, you’ll find Kelli sneaking away to write while shoveling peanut butter M&Ms into her mouth until her stomach hurts. TWO WHITE PILLS is her first novel. Follow along with what she’s doing at kellithalman.com.

I realize that no book is going to do justice to someone's experience, but with the Author's inside look, I felt like I was experiencing with the characters what mental illness felt like. It was a narrow glimpse, but as someone who is a counselor and works with people experiencing mental illness, this was an important and essential read.

While no book is going to give the depth of what is experienced by people going through something like this, I felt like I was on the journey with them. It was life, pure and simple. With the inside perspective, my eyes were opened like they haven't been before. The depth of the self-blame and the focus on being the problem would be excruciating.

I want to thank the author for allowing me to get a glimpse of the journey so that I can offer more perfect empathy without being on the inside of that myself. In the end, it wasn't about happily ever after it was about healing and hope.

Real and honeat

I received a promotional copy in exchange for an honest review.
I really liked that thi book took such an honest look at mental illness. The constant mind struggles, the fear of being found out, of not being normal. I liked the two main characters and their struggles. I also really liked that everything wasn't magically right in the end.

Not a bad read. It’s a good way to look into the eyes of someone with mental illness. There were some glaring grammar/punctuation issues that probably wouldn’t bother anyone but me, just because I’m an editor trained to see it. Other than that, it’s a nice, easy read. There is some language, but nothing worse than a PG-13 movie.

This author did a wonderful job of portraying both main characters through their own eyes. She had me really feeling like I understood their thoughts and feelings. A very good and entertaining look at mental illness and the prejudices seen in our current society.
