Netflix and Chill takes on a whole new meaning when Posie starts dating the Reaper.

In other words, become a pimp.

It’s a cruel demotion for a reaper who just wanted to guide souls to their final destination. He is dying to return to Hell, until he meets the stubborn woman living across the hall.

Posie and the reaper next door!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💚🖤💙💜
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏
Character development: 😮🙂🥰😍
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration type: Solo Narration

The Hero: Brody - He is a grim reaper, actually a leader of the reapers in the Canadian Guild. Though Lucifer had an idea that the citizens of Hell need mates. So he tasked Brody with running a dating service between human women from Earth and the demons in order to create minions since his numbers have been dwindling lately. Brody is the director so needs to set up an office for the dating guild. There is a woman who lives across the hall from the apartment Brody moved into that is first on the list and Lucifer wants her pregnant as soon as possible.

The heroine: Posie - she ends up helping out the new tenant across the hall. She is used to the people on the floor below who always dress up for cosplay, but this huge guy in a hooded robe is a bit different than anyone she has ever seen before. When she is let go from her secretarial job, she is offered a new job at the Grim Dating Agency.

The Story: Lucifer was quite funny in this one. He was prone to exaggeration about the latest apocalypse in Hell that is always on the horizon. For instance his missing the Backstreet Boys reunion concert was one of his latest red alerts. He also went ballistic when he was missing one of his duck socks which was very important because he was required to be stylish and post often on Hellstagram and Hellbook.

The story was different than any I have read before and was a bit silly at times and whimsical which is surprising since it was about reapers, demons, the devil and more. It was cute and interesting and the narration was perfect. I have to say I also loved the way his cloak swirled around him all the time, sort of like that one Dr. Strange wears. And the way Posie talked to the angels was pretty great.

This book was told in solo narration and was narrated by Troy Duran, my all time favorite narrator. I totally don’t mind solo narration when he is the narrator. He has a deep and sexy voice which I could listen to all day and he is great at putting emotion into his voice acting. He always does a terrific job and I look for audiobooks specifically with him as a narrator.

3 VERY TEPID STARS

Reaper Brody is the leader of the Canadian guild, bored he wants something to do
What he doesn't expect is for the Devil/The Dark Lord to give him the task of establishing a dating service on Earth that will help get citizens of Hell and humans to get together have babies, who one day will be super powerful and thus a valuable in the Devil's army.

I was really excited to see a series by Langlais that I hadn't read, especially as the author's books are usually quirky and funny but this book didn't have me laughing or smiling as it should have.

The Angels in this are douches.

More sizzle and spark needed between the MCs.

This is more com>rom, but I didn't mind so much.

This author's humor is... weird. The best comparison I have would be Gintama.

(yep, those are samurai on a scooter and somehow an umbrella g*n? 😭🤪)

Not that the humor is the same but the nonsensical mismatched style is similar.

My Thoughts: When I finished this audio book, I was adamant in my OMG I loved this book so much! 4 Stars! Totally 4 stars...maybe even 4.5! Once my finished book satisfaction (i.e.: frenzy) wore off a bit I recognized this short book wasn't maybe as fantastic as I initially thought. Sigh.

The Good, The Bad, and Everything Else: So typically, I discuss the plot (although briefly) and the characters before spending a line or two about the narration but Imma strike that, reverse it, and state upfront...I think Troy Duran's narration stroked all my buttons and boosted my book euphoria into "This is the best book I've ever read!" proportions. So, our black robe shrouded Grim, Brody Reaper, has a deep voice. Thanks to Troy Duran, Brody has a melt your panties off voice. Of course, that probably is just Duran's natural voice and, in that case, the next 3 books in this series are going to have male protagonists who are sure to create panty puddles as well. I'll keep this in mind when I read them and won't fall for the book euphoria that each one will surely create. Am I done talking about the narration yet? Nope, but here is my last thought on the subject. I might even go so far as to say I would seek out a book just because Troy Duran is narrating. Of course, it better be a spicy romance because if it's a thriller him narrating a series killer's thoughts might just ruin things for me.

Now for the regular part of my review.... Character wise. Neither Brody nor Posie are very fleshed out. Posie is Canadian who apparently has agoraphobia maybe anthropophobia (fear of people for those who don't want to stop reading this long enough to open up another window to google) and potentially a fear of not being able to apologize enough but then that might just be a Canadian thing (according to the book anyway)(oh and Eve Langlais is Canadian so I'm thinking she should know)(Can my Canadian friends please let me know if this is true...are y'all predisposition to apologize for everything?) Other than those things we know about Posie we don't know much more. We do learn why she is the way she is but other than that Posie might have just been plopped down in somewhere Canada a fully formed if not mildly cracked human being (with only one facet of her past life being told to us because I'm assuming this one factor is the only thing, we need to know about Posie's past.) Brody is as much a mystery as well. We only get one part of his past life and that was the part that led him to his death and his subsequent life of a Reaper. So why did I like this book so much with characters not even fully dimensional characters? Troy Duran. No! Didn't mean to mention him again. Maybe it was the way the book was plotted out? Maybe.

The Plot or the premise of the story if you will. Lucifer is pissy because the number of his ranks are getting smaller. He blames the humans and their medical science with birth control and the Plan B pill being at the top. He needs higher numbers, so he decides to start a pimp service. Not really. it's a dating service where he matches humans up with his current ranks (reapers, demons, minotaurs, whomever happens to have a penis and is team Hell) to make evil little babies to join him on his quest for chaos and evil fun. What I found I liked about this book as a whole was Hell wasn't all bad, Lucifer wasn't all evil, and angels were kind of assholes.

There were a couple spicy scenes and a couple really fun scenes where Posie got a backbone and told off a couple of angels.... well, an angel and an Archangel, Raphael, to be precise. The ending, although quick, was good as well leading to my end of book euphoria belief this was an epically great book. It's not but it's fun, short, and spicy (especially if you listen to it!)

In a Nutshell: See all the above. If you're still not sure if I'll be reading more...um listening to more of these books maybe reread the first paragraph in my The Good, The Bad, and Everything Else section.

A reaper gets the challenge to start an dating agency for citizens of hell and humans for the end goal of babies. Decided to try and listen to a Eve Langlais book to see if I enjoy her more this time around and eh I didn't really like it. Her concept of books sounds so fun and silly but I haven't enjoyed the book I've picked up by her. Maybe I'm just picking up the wrong ones.

What can I say about this quick quirky read ? I had forgotten how silly this authors work could be and this was both fun and pretty bonkers at times ! Posey was an absolute hoot all stiff and starchy but very sassy when riled and tiny heads up here but her interactions with those ahem slightly more heavenly were the best part of the book ! Ok perhaps the romance with Brody when it happened didn’t feel that right but I still had a good time reading this .

Spin off from the Welcome to hell series. Lucifer needs more minions and that means babies. A celibate grim reaper and a woman in her late thirties. The dating business was interesting, Although Bambi and Brody trying to run it when they don’t believe in love was entertaining. There were a lot of fun lines and Luc popping up. For a moment I was worried there would be a love triangle, still didn’t like Raphael. Favourite part was Posie putting everyone in their place.

Lots of shenanigans abound from the large cast of characters living in Hell and Heaven. This book secretly stars Lucifer - naturally. 👹 Our H/h are really just side characters with a larger feature; in an ensemble cast that is quite entertaining. I look forward to reading more Grim Dating and Welcome to Hell stories. 3.5 stars.

Nice little start off for these new series! A quick read, I didn't fall for the Main Characters but then I don't have to love everyone, the bad guys are jerks for sure wish we had more indepth to build on disliking them. Lucifer is his interesting self as always.

Pushing Up Posies begins the Grim Dating series, which is connected to the Welcome to Hell series – so don’t be surprised to see a familiar face here and there. If you haven’t read the Welcome to Hell series, no worries, you can dive in and enjoy yourself with Posie and Brody. But you will be tempted to go pick up the earlier stories.

It seems Lucifer doesn’t have enough minions in Hell. What’s the devil to do about that? Well. Open a dating service between humans and those who reside in Hell, all those babies that are sure to be a result of this mastermind plot are certain to be enough minions to fill those empty spots. But… a dating service run by a reaper? Now that’s something you don’t think about too often, if ever.

I had such a good time with Pushing Up Posies. Brody is delicious and Posie is, well, not quite what she seems since as a human she shouldn’t be able to see through the glamour to the real creatures it masks… but she does. Although, she doesn’t believe in anything supernatural at all, even though she’s interacting with them constantly. The banter between Posie and Brody often had me in chuckles and Lucifer is… well, does he ever really change? No, not really. Watching this couple figure out what they’re feeling for each other (beyond lust) was a fun adventure. But watch out for twists and perhaps a surprise along the way because that’s just how Eve Langlais rolls… expected the unexpected in any of her stories.

I had fun here and even though I have a bit to catch up on with the series, that just makes it easier to do a binge read. Problem solved. If you love a good Paranormal Romance with irony, humor, sizzling chemistry, and some very interesting characters then Pushing Up Posies would be perfect for you.

I own a Kindle edition of this story.

Ok, I really liked the idea of this concept but so far the execution is just ok. If you haven't read at least the first few Welcome To Hell series books I think you'll be even less impressed. I have read several from that series but didn't finish it so there seem to be a few spoilers in this book and also it's a little confusing with the prologue if this is your first intro to this entire world. Anyway, that said, I felt the prologue was a bit long and felt it took a bit to get to the point of the story. I felt the two main characters were a bit cardboard cutout with no real depth (it's a shorter book but still felt there could have been more) plus Posie's character is a complete contradiction. She's supposed to be this super polite and shy person and then is snarky to her new neighbor - ok she's got a little backbone, that's fine, but then she's like all "in your face" to an angel and it just didn't seem to mesh with who she was supposed to be at all.

I also understand that in this world the guys in hell are actually the "good" guys while those from heaven leave a bit to be desired but I feel she went over the top with that concept as the angels aren't just "sanctimonious pricks" as described in the books they're condescending and rude at the minimum and villainous/murderous at the extreme. I just wish there had been more even competition between the reaper and the angel than reaper = best choice and angel = horrible choice. Too black and white and simplistic.

I also wished we'd seen more of what a Reaper is and can do. He has a cool cloak that protects him, he can seem to phase in and out of this world and shepherds souls to Hell (what about heaven? those undecided?). And why are reapers associated with Hell? Shouldn't they be more "impartial"? That's never explored.

So it was an interesting concept and an ok story and has more potential so I'll see if the next in the series plays out better.

No Games!!!

Brody Reaper, a Grim reaper and the leader of the Canadian guild, he and his crew were not getting as much work of the other guilds around the world. Well all that changed when the Dark Lord gave a new task. They were to build a dating service that would allow the humans and the citizens of he!! to come together in order to procreate babies.

He wasn't excited about his new assignment, all he wanted to do was guide souls to their final destination. He wanted to head back to his realm but when he met the beautiful, sassy and fierce woman from across the hall, Posie, all bets were off. His boss wanted Posie mated but the stubborn woman wasn't having any of it. What was a reaper to do!?

Posie Ringwald, a secretary for a small law firm who loved spending her evenings reading paperbacks instead of going out. She never imagined what fate hadvin store for her when she met her new neighbor. The sexy as sin, none chatty, mysterious man, Brody.

She had the ability to see through their facade. The Dark Lord wanted her mated to one of his demons but he never expected his loyal minion, Brody to be the one to win her heart. The way Posie handled the truth about everything was beautifully written. So glad they both found happiness.

It was great to catch up with the Dark Lord and his daughters. Bambi and Muriel were too funny, loved how they were pulling their father's chain. To have the both of them watching over the Grim Dating Service was well done.

PUSHING UP POSIES is the first book in Eve Langlais's newest series, GRIM DATING . Oh my! what a wonderful, interesting and oh so fascinating way to kick off the series. Mrs Langlais did a mind-blowing job! 5++++

I had high expectations for this story because of the concept, but it not only failed to pull off the concept, it failed as a romance. The heroine has no personality. Supposedly she's a polite-to-a-fault Canadian, but she came off as brusk and wooden. The beleaguered hero is pretty normcore for a grim reaper, but the author doesn't seem to be going for any kind of effect with it. It feels more like she didn't do any characterization work at all. The love story made zero sense--hero and heroine have a few stilted, dull conversations, and the hero slowly decides he's in love with this extremely unpleasant, uninteresting woman. Weirdly, the sex scenes are decently written, but they feel disconnected from the narrative because the leads have no chemistry and never get to know each other.

The paranormal aspects didn't work well, either, because they were only used as window dressing. The hero is a grim reaper. We don't get to see him do any reaping. He also runs a dating agency. Grim reaper running a dating agency sounds HILARIOUS as a conceit. I was so excited to read about it. We don't get to see him doing much of the dating agency stuff, either. Nothing particularly interesting or paranormal happens. When he finally tells the heroine what he is, she asks for proof, and the proof takes all of two short, vague paragraphs.

It sucked and I'm sad. I'm glad I requested it from the library instead of spending money, but I'm sad it's now going to sit in the library holdings where other unsuspecting paranormal romance fans might check it out and suffer through it.

I usually really like these Hell books, but I didn't find this one to be as enjoyable. I think the first couple of chapters were much too long and way too sexual. I'm the type of person that prefers for a couple to get together and stay loyal so I was already always not a huge fan of Lucifer and Gaia, but I thought they had worked it all out despite him being the devil and were a true love match (since that is a common theme in these books). I get that he's supposed to be the devil and his sexual comments and stuff are supposed to be funny but I think it's funnier when he's the devil in this domestic role of father and husband not when he's sexualizing his daughters and reminiscing about all of his past lovers and wishing his wife would morph into another woman during sex because all of those things are so expected with a devilish role. Also, the amount of sexual encounters Bambi was supposed to have had seemed a bit much, it was a funny idea but went too far with the number of times the word "slut" was used and how it seemed to be her entire personality to the point that she had slept with almost every being she encountered. (And the masturbating reapers stuff was wayyyyyyyyyyy over the top.)

I love just love Eve Langlais. She is such a great writer she draws you in. I was so happen with I realized that Lucifer was going to continue his matchmaking skills in this series. I loved seeing him and I loved the times when he just popped up just to be seen. The fact that Eve describes every outfit about him to a tee is just glorious.

I loved Brody and I loved Poise. The two of them had this tension that would not let. I also loved the fact that Poise give not one fuck about seeming all of the paranormal beings. She was not impressed from the being and she continued not to care. Not even an angel was going to make her give a fuck.

I cannot wait to see more of her within the series and I cannot wait to see what outfit Lucifer has next.

This is only the second book I have read by Eve and I loved them book. Brody is the leader of the Canadian Grim Reapers. But now he is being assigned to open a dating agency. The idea is to pair citizens of hell with humans with the goal of babies. Brody doesn’t want to do this but when the Devil tells you to do something you do. The Devil really wants someone paired with Brody’s new neighbor, Posie. Posie wonders what is going on across the hall. She keeps seeing people in larping gear going in and out. Then she learns about the dating agency. She guesses that everyone wants to find someone to be with. Brody finds himself attracted to Posie. Then there are the angels, who are horrible. This book was funny and I like the paranormal aspect of it. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

I received the ebook for Free to Give My True & Honest Review but Had to but the audio & was I glad I did.

Here is a new type of 3rd world beings well in saying 3rd World but we're starting in hell where Lucifer decides in needs more minions to reproduce & that's where in decides to send Brody his Grim Reaper lead of the Canadian Guild, especially getting Posie impregnanted by any shifter/reaper.
So in this humorous book Brody says up a percific dating site, which he starts in his apartment RIGHT ACROSS from Posie, but Posie can SEE each of these different species as they are & NOT with the 'veil' that they put on themselves, but she ALWAYS been told that it was her over exaggerated imagination & put on medication to block her visions.
Anyway it's a lighthearted hea in what in normal circumstance wouldn't be a hea. A good light read & the narration by Troy Duran is quite sexy 👿😘👿

I loved this book!

Well Lucifer is at it again. Lucifer needs more minions in hell and since nobody’s having babies he out sourcing his problem. Brody the head grim reaper for Canada is in a slump. There’s been no need for reapers like in the old days. That’s doesn’t mean he wants to run a match making service heck he doesn’t even believe in love. Poise has been different her whole life. Told she was seeing things and made to believe she’s crazy. So when who she thinks is a cos role playing reaper moves next door she doesn’t blink an eye. The things she sees aren’t real right. When those do gooder Angels get involved Brody will have to choose. Can he save Posie before it’s to late. Or will she be pushing up posies? I absolutely loved this book.

This one surprised me! I wanted to DNF it SO BAD in the beginning because I thought the humour was too forced. I pushed through because I didn’t want to waste my last instant borrow on Hoopla and I’m pretty glad I did.

The humour eventually made more sense and got pretty funny, the love story was a little too insta-love for me (I need at least a little bit of buildup), and the world building was pretty good. As a Canadian I did appreciate having actual decent representation, which makes sense seeing as how the author is Canadian. Also, Troy Duran as the narrator is just *chefs kiss*.

Is it my favourite book this year? Yeah, no. Will I read the others in the series? Not likely. Did it pass the time in an enjoyable manner? Heck yeah.

Fun idea and great to have a side series from Hell.
But it just fell flat, even with Lucifers antics.
I’ve never been a fan of Bambi, DNF her book and she is annoying in this as the boss of Grim Dating.
Though I loved how Posie could SEE everyone and her telling off the angels was brilliantly funny.
I would have liked a bit more explanation of her childhood. Did the medication make her switch of from the world? why did she suffer from anxiety? those were important factors in who she is now.
I hated what happened to her at Raphael’s meanness, what a ratbag he was.
But the missing conjoining words, and there were lots, was truly annoying. Something a good BETA reader would have picked up.

A fun read!

Ah, trouble in the Underworld!
After realising that there aren't enough babies being born to replenish his Armies, Lucifer establishes a Dating Service pairing humans and his minions - Grim Dating, and places Brody the Reaper to run the business.
Brody just wants to go back to guiding souls to their final destinantion, until he meets his neighbour on Earth, Posie.
He soon realises that there is somsthing wrong with his sassy, straightforward neighbour Posie, because she seems to be able to see him, and all his Underworld coleagues, for what they are, and believes they are cosplaying

Absolutely fantastic!!!

I love everything Eve Langlais writes. First off, this book is hysterical! I love Lucifer's character, he is fabulously written. Posie has a weird, new neighbor that keeps inviting even weirder people over. Brody is drawn to Posie especially since she can see through the glamour. There is a part in here that made my heart drop to my stomach, but there is a happy ending. Several characters from the Welcome to Hell series are mentioned or show up and Muriel, Lucifer's daughter also appears.

This was cute! My first book by this author. I was confused in the beginning because it felt like I walked in on another story that was clearly before this one. It sets this series up and it got better from there.

I really liked the h and how she could see through the glamours but assumed they were cosplayers.

This was lighthearted overall and a cute read.

The H starts out trying to set h up with others per his assignment but she rejects them. Then no one is good enough for her because he’s accidentally fallen for her himself. It’s safe. Mild OM drama but he never stood a chance.

Eva Langlais's "Pushing Up Posies" is the beginning of the Grim Dating series. This is the first book of Eva's I have read and boy am I glad I picked it up! This was such a light hearted, quick read! Such a great book if you want a brain break.

"Pushing Up Posies" starts with Lucifer and his plan to bring more souls into Hell, and so begins the Grim Dating Service. Brody, a high ranking Grim Reaper is tasked with paring a particularly difficult human. This slow-burn was light hearted, funny and mildly spicy. I can't wait to read more of this series!

Isn’t it all cos-play

Hell he decided it needs more soldiers. Decides to take some of the Reapers and turn them into match makers. Brody finds himself as the head guy of this. First assignment was to find a woman names Posie. Come to find out she can see them though their disguises they show humans. Will hell get the soldiers they want or will heaven stop them? Will Brody and Posie realize they love each before it is too late?

Posie LOL

Oh, I have been anticipating this book for a while and let me tell you it was definitely worth the wait. Well Lucy is at it again. Lucifer needs more minions in hell and since nobody having babies he decides to take matters into his hand. I had a hard time liking Posie at first, but she definitely grew on me especially when she try to show that Canadian spirit but failed miserably. It was hilarious!!! Overall a great read

Decent, but too short, leaving the story feeling ridiculously rushed. The beginning was too long, which meant EL smooshed the love story together. No chemistry or time to get to know the MCs. Had great snark, but I felt lost at times. Apparently a lot has happened in the Hell universe that I'm not familiar with, even though I read the Welcome to Hell and Lucifer's Daughter series.

I forgot how much I enjoyed reading Eve Langlais novels , this book was so good ! I couldn’t stop laughing. I think that the match making aspect of the book was a bit underdeveloped ; HOWEVER, it was made up with the humor. I think I was more invested in Bambi’s and the daughter’s stories than the main characters though. Over all it’s was a great book and I can’t wait to binge read the rest of the series! 😅
