In short (as the stories are short) this IS a good read.

Flash Fiction, to be truly effective, depends on the twist, the turn, and the economy of word usage actually makes that more challenging than it may seem, and this writer has a fantastic hold on the form. Her stories have dark twists, thought-provoking twists, romantic twists. And each one leaves the reader with a smile, or a tiny shock, or simply saying, "whoaaaa!"

It is obvious that these stories were originally posted on Twitter. The hashtags have also been left in, which, for a reader unfamiliar with Twitter (if there are any) will find the hashtag a bit confusing, which detracts from the story. What would make this a five-star book would be a reworking of the stories for a book format: allow the writer to re-write the stories (as needed) beyond the Tweet character limit, reformat the pages, possibly even add titles, so that the eye doesn't run the stories together (one's brain may try to read them as a long thread instead of individual stories)

Again, these stories are delightful, and yes, they need to be read by many more people. This reader looks forward to a future edition of this tome where these wonderful tales are allowed a little more room to breathe, stretch, and become the best versions of themselves.

What a Treat

Jana has a rare way with words, which brings envy to the writer in me. The reader in me, however, revels in the intricacies of these tiny tales and how the end of something so short can be so unexpected.

These bite-sized stories are great for a teatime, literary snack, or a five-minute reading fix before bed as much as they can be enjoyed as a collective.

And the best thing is, once you've finished, you can be drip fed daily extras via her Twitter account, avoiding any withdrawal symptoms and satisfying what may well become an insatiable hunger.

If you're a fan of flash fiction with a twist in its tail... I can highly recommend this little book!

I originally planned on just reading a few of these a day, but I ended up reading it all in one go.
I love how each story says so much in so few words, and some of the themes were things I personally needed to hear. There are some stories that broke my heart, some that gave me chills, and some that literally made me laugh out loud. It was a rollercoaster that was well worth the minute cost I paid for such a wide variety of moments.
There's a huge variety, so there's guaranteed to be some that really hit you in the gut. Great read!

I've never read a book like this before. I only recently became aware of the VSS365 tag on Twitter, otherwise I wouldn't have had a clue why this book was formatted the way it is. It was a quick, easy read but honestly the formatting threw me off a bit. Sometimes the separation of the stories didn't mesh up and I wasn't sure if the next few lines were part of the story I just read, or a completely different story. All in all it was enjoyable to read and a great book if you're looking for something quick.

Those of us who know Jana from Twitter are very familiar with her wit, fun writing style, and especially, her love of the macabre. I expected to find flash fiction in this book that highlight these characteristics. It didn’t disappoint, but the biggest treat and surprise where the ones in The Wholesome section. Many of the tweet-sized stories in this section brought tears to my eyes. I think my favorites are the ones that start “It was his daughter’s first time to host Christmas” and “To me, grandpa was invincible.” I definitely recommend this collection of wonderful flash fiction.

A Pleasure to Read

I never had a particular interest in micro-fiction, but I am so glad I read this book. I became familiar with Jana’s writing on Twitter. I was amazed by her ability to craft meaningful stories with a small character limit. I was equally impressed with her use of language to create scenes you not only read, but felt. I expected I would read a few stories here and there, but when once I started, I found myself saying, “Just one more,” until the end. If you are a fan of surprising, well-crafted stories, this is worth a read.

I follow Jana on Twitter and am a fellow member of its Writing Community, so I was familiar with quite a few of the tiny tales in this collection. That said, they are quite enjoyable, even if more than a few go back to a similar well and thus become repetitive. If you want short, quick but well-written reads, give this a look. You won't be disappointed.
