Once upon a time, in a land far, far away...

Okay, maybe it's not a long time ago, or even very far away, but present day Chicago has it's fair share of heroes and villains. Unlike the tales of old, they don't wear shining armor, golden crowns or even dragon scales - they're human. Gloriously flawed and dangerous humans with an appetite for both blood and lust.

A twist of fate brought Cole Ryan and Elle Laroux together in an orgasmic first encounter, but all too fast their futures became deeply entwined. Being forced together wouldn't be such a bad thing if a dark web wasn't being woven around Cole and Elle - simultaneously taut and tenuous - leaving their very lives to hold on by the thinnest of fate's strands.

****This book contains graphic sex, violence, uncomfortable sexual encounters as well as M/M/F, M/M and F/F sexual relationships. It's intended for mature audiences, over 18 only****

Ace Gray is a best selling author, self-proclaimed troublemaker and connoisseur of both the good life and fairy tales. After a life-long love affair with both books, she undertook writing the novel she wanted to read. Ten books later, she's gotten to live in the world of billionaires, twisted murders, and sweet small towns. When she's not writing, she owns a taco truck in a ski town in Colorado even though she can't cook a lick (that's all her husband). She loves paddle boarding, snowboarding, camping, basically anything outside... and hosting dinner parties (though she's only in it for the drinks). Oh, and of course, writing more words.

Ace is the author of Strictly Business, Bad For Business, Family Business, Twisted Fate, Twisted Death, A Twisted Love Story, Twisted Secrets, Of Smoke & Cinnamon: A Christmas Story, Pretty Young Things, All The Letters I'll Never Send You and All The Letters I've Ever Read. Sunshine and lollipops, this book absolutely is not. Overcast and cherry fucktarts is probably a more accurate description. If you're looking for a fucked up fairy tale, then your search is over.

This story starts off hot and heavy, and I was nearly drooling. *let me wipe that up* Cole and Elle are two people who know how to get down and dirty, but is that all? Hell no, just when I think I'm reading an erotic smutfest this book turns into something completely different. In the best way possible of course. It turns into this deep and dark love story. These two people fall quickly, and it's actually heart clenching the things that they are willing to do for one another. There's blood, there's sex, there's even more sex, and then more blood, and love... that's right, there's some love. Blood and sex too though! Ok I realize this is very vague, but I think this is one you should go in practically blind. If you disagree, move on and look for a spoiler filled review. You won't find it here.

This is my first actual Ace Gray read, and I can not sing her praises any higher. The writing is AMAZING, the story she weaves is so detailed and it pulls you in so deep you're burning through pages so quickly, so that you can find out what the hell is going on with all of these characters. If you like dark romance with triggers, this book is FOR you! I'm serious, one-click right the hell now! There are tons of triggers, and stuff that's taboo, and things that will make you uncomfortable... but it's amazing and worth the discomfort!

I've been pondering for a couple of days now how to best write a review that would accurately summarise how I felt reading this book... but here I am, still staring off into mid space like an over botoxed cast member on The Bold & The Beautiful.

I've even considered simply making this the shortest review I've ever written & say just this:
If you like your romance dark, twisted & delicious, then
READ THIS EPIC FUCKING BOOK!

Simplistic & true AF - but it doesn't really do it justice.

So, I've decided to go the dot point approach - middle ground if you will - it's punchy, effective & I don't need to try to unscramble my tumultuous thoughts and feelings into sentences.

Twisted Fate by Ace (The MthrFkn Queen of Unicorns) Gray

* it's gritty, gripping, raw & fearless
* you will not be able to put it down - it will own your ass and it will not care that it does - oh, and neither will you
* it will steal your breath from your lungs as if are unable to remove your hands from the safety bar on a poorly maintained rollercoaster-ride that you're sure is going to derail any moment
* you will be so turned on (and if I'm honest, it will sometimes be against your will) that you will be at risk of sliding right off your chair and your body will heat to temperatures normally reserved for cremation
* you will be so repulsed & horrified at times that your stampeding emotions will demand you take a breather... or at the very least, a large shot of hard liquor - but you won't - it would mean putting the book it down - and you're no quitter
* Cole Ryan is EVERYTHING and I do mean EV-ER-RY-THING
* Elle Laroux is the perfect heroine - smart, feminine, sassy and she grows sharper, stronger and more resilient as the book progresses
* now don't even get me started on Horse - JFC... that man... that man...
* the bonds, the dynamics and the connections between the characters are palpable
* the power plays, the manipulations & the savagery are unapologetic in their brutality
* the one liners & sarcastic remarks are epic - and TF, they come just when you need them the most - when you need to breathe
* the good guys are bad guys - broken, tarnished & and haunted
* the bad guys are nightmarish - vile, repugnant harbingers of death and destruction
* the story is so full of HMMoG moments, that it will upend your centre of gravity & I doubt you'll be able to determine your ass from a hole in the ground
* now, as for the ending... I can't even... I know it's book one - so you kinda prepare for it, but FMSwinging... you aren't prepared for this...

You know what - maybe I was right earlier - I should probably just keep it short and simple:

READ THIS EPIC FUCKING BOOK!

*I was provided an ARC of this book, with no expectation on the part of the author that they would receive a positive review in exchange. My review reflects my genuine opinion of this book.*

I have never read anything Ace Gray before so Twisted Fate is my first from her. I usually share a plot summary but I have to make an exemption here. Well, all I can share with you really is the hero and the heroine starts a sexcapade while they're taking the same plane. It started REALLY (like REALLY REALLY REALLY HOT) and the rest was even hotter!

I want every reader to jump into this book blindly because that's what I did. I read the blurb and the warnings but they gave me a vague idea of what this book's about. So you can just imagine my surprise when I started reading! If you have reached the reviews section, I suppose that you have read the blurb and the warning too. Still, I must say that there are some scenes in here that could make some readers feel uncomfortable. This is a dark read at its finest. I am not much of a dark reader and I just usually go to the "lighter side" of dark, but Twisted Fate is nothing like what I have experienced before. It flustered me, it made me blush and crave for cold shower more than I should because... whew... (zips mouth) it confused me, thrilled me and saddened me.

I guess the only thing that made me rate it between 3.5 stars to 4 is the beginning was overly loaded with sex scenes. It just confused me a bit as to where the story was going and I was wishing that Ace didn't really give all the juiciest scenes in the beginning that there won't be much left to excite and surprise me in the next chapters. In all fairness though, as I went further, my questions were answered and the author actually gave me a tidal wave of a story that I wasn't really prepared for.

All in all, it's an awesome read and it took me to a ride I don't usually risk my sanity for. Ace Gray has a great potential in writing dark reads that could drive her reader nuts! I really can't wait for her to write more and show the world how crazy her stories could be.

Would I read the next book? Of course I would. I NEED IT!

3.5 STARS!

From the moment I read the description of this book I thought–I really want to read this one. The warnings were there, but I'm a sucker for dark reads so I ignored them.

I should have followed the advice. LOL.

The story follows Cole & Elle. A twist of fate brought them together in an orgasmic first encounter, but all too fast their futures became deeply entwined. What started out as casual sex, ended up being a run for their lives.

What I liked:

1. The villains.

Mickey Maloney. Such a motherfucking bastard. A character you definitely need to meet.
Siobhan. WRONG! So wrong but so so GOOD!

2. The gory scenes, plus said villains. Disturbingly addictive.

I think I need to find a local support group for this shit. LOL.

3. The characters.

I did like Cole & Elle but Horse and mainly Conrad had my heart.

4. The concept for the story.

While there were definitely things I didn't like, I will get there soon I promise, the story was really good. I reached a point in the book where I couldn't put it down. I was desperate to find out what exactly happened to Elle's mom. Or what Mickey was going to do with Elle? And then that ending, gawd! I'm warning you now... this is a HUGE cliffhanger so if you don't like them, you know what do to.

What I didn't like.

1. The M/M/F, M/M sexual encounters/relationship..

Yes, I read the warnings but I wanted to give it a try. No one can forbid me from doing it, right?
And yes, I realize that maybe this is an unpopular opinion to have and that these are completely personal reasons to dislike something, but this is just an opinion and its mine.

2. The insta-fuck-lust-love.

While I did love the fuckfest between Cole & Elle, Ace Gray knows how to write scorching sex scenes, I would have loved a little more background before their decide to get down and dirty.

I'm all for the blood and crazy-wild hot scenes, but I think it's important that you enjoy the book as a whole, which I didn't, so thats why I'm giving it 3.5 stars.

If you're looking for a crazy bloody ride with explicit M/M/F scenes, stop right there, because this is your book.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4 just for the last 25% alone.

I'm not usually a fan of covers featuring bare-chested males, but there is just something about the look on his face that makes me love this one. I could be fooled into thinking this is full-of-feels romance but the blurb makes it pretty clear that this is quite a dark read - and the author isn't exaggerating.

This was a book that I considered DNF'ing quite a few times. The story doesn't get going until somewhere between 25 and 30%, whilst the pace continued to stutter along until the last third of the book. It contains a lot of sex scenes, one whole heck of a lot. As in, a good third to half of the book must be sex scenes of some description. Remember how I just said the story didn't take off for a while? That's because the first 20% was almost entirely composed of sexual activity. I love a good smutty book but sex is no substitute for storyline and I was left with the impression that a thorough edit would not have gone amiss.

On a positive, things very much improved from that point onwards and whilst I still had to skim verbose descriptions and further sex scenes I did feel much more engaged by the story and its characters. It took me quite a while to get to know Cole, Elle and Horse. For rather a long time I knew much more about the talent of Cole's tongue than I did about him as a person. And if you think I've already mentioned sex quite a lot in this review, I don't hold a candle to how much the author mentioned it 😉🤣.

The final third of the story very easily held my attention and it was in this part that I fell totally in love with Cole, Elle and Horse. I kind of liked Conrad too though his character was rather underdeveloped. Whilst we got early glimpses of danger, this was where the book truly unleashed its dark side. This was nail-biting, stomach-churning and emotion slaying in equal parts. It sprang surprises that slapped you so hard around the face it left your head spinning before finally leaving you teetering on the edge of a soap opera-esque cliff-hanger ending. *sob*

5 sweet cherries! We were first introduced to Elle and Cole in a newsletter and it was hot hot hot, I never would of thought that they would develop into the story they have. The attraction these two shared is thrilling but as time goes on it gets they only get even intense in the most dark and dirtiest ways you can imagine that will leave you aching. Cole has a dark past and as much as he tries to escape it he can't and Elle gets up getting herself wrapped up in everything without even knowing it. Horse is Cole's best friend and has always been by his side since they were young, he is hilarious and his nickname for Elle will leave you in stitches. I don't want to give anything away but holy f*ck when these three come together and form a bond that can't be broken, damn you'll need to change your panties (yeah it's that good) There's so much more to this story then sex, we have an edge of your seat story being told and discoveries being revealed throughout, let's just say things are not always what they seem. I can't believe how things ended up with everyone, Ace you're killing me but damn what a story. Without a doubt a MUST READ! This is my unbiased and voluntary review.

where to begin?

Cole and Elle might have started as a little newsletter smutty short story but Ace has taken them and turned them into an EPIC rollercoaster ride of a novel.

This book IS dark. it does push boundaries and it certainly challenges what i would consider relationship norms.

but you know what? its fucking beautiful. The relationships and the friendships. The battles and challenges they face? all written with an undercurrent of love thats so strong you cant ignore it.

on the surface its a smutty, instalove fuckfest with a ton of action thrown in, but dig just a little deeper and what you're actually getting a story about love. Love in various forms. Its about putting your life on the line for the ones you love. its about fighting for them, and not just with guns and knives.

Ace is a fantastic storyteller. She weaves a story that you will never forget. She gives you characterS that are beautifully flawed and you will love unquestionably.

Not just one of my favourite dark reads, one of my favourite reads ever.

5 stars arent enough.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Twisted Fate is a dark read. It contains some scenes that may be disturbing or triggers to some people.

I went into this book blind and that is the way I think everyone should go into it. I just knew that it was dark and dove right in. Holy wow. Your going to fall in love with Elle, Cole, and Horse. There is just no way around it. It will take you a few chapters of exceptional steamy scenes to find out what is really going on and it was so much fun pealing back the layers of this book. Your also going to be put through the ringer at times and beyond the edge of your seat. You might just want to start out in the floor because your going to wind up there in the end. Just buckle up and enjoy the ride. Don't try to figure it out. Don't even think you have it figured out because it will twist and turn and slap you in the face a few times.

I loved reading this book. I'm so glad I got the opportunity to read and review it. It was my first Ace Gray book ever but you can bet it won't be my last. I love discovering new authors and now have a new one to be on the look out for at the top of my list.

THIS BOOK! This Story! AHHHH These characters! This book is so crazy sexy. Like no joke hot hot hot. But it was so much more. When you dive so much deeper into the book, when you truly engulf yourself it the story. Its a story of LOVE and FAMILY and LOYALTY and COMPASSION. Its so beautiful and honest and raw. The characters are so fiercely loyal to one another and I just felt that to my core. I loved this book.

3.5-4 stars Buddy Read Dark Erotica Group June 17, 22

It was pretty good. Kept me hooked till the end although as we got close to the end, I started to waver a bit.

There were a lot of awesome things about the book:

The beginning of the book hooked me and I loved the interactions between Elle and Cole. It was intense and a bit shocking - like I would never be able to pull something like that off - but I was also completely delighted with their actions and over the top behaviour.

Cole, the MMC, was who made the book for me and kept me interested. He’s damaged of course and he’s done a lot of bad things but he’s a good guy under it all. When he’s made to do things he hates - he feels remorse and I really felt for him during the scenes where he’s forced to do things he doesn’t want to do. It was heart breaking. I felt similar to when I read scenes in “the Tied Man” by T McGowan. I loved how he cared about Elle - to the point where he sacrificed himself to get her out. Elle is OK but I like her more because she’s the object of his obsession, rather than her character on it’s own.

Horse, his best friend, also adds to the story. He’s totally in love with Cole and it’s interesting to see how Cole handles him.

Other things I liked less:

This book has a lot of super detailed sex scenes. I actually got confused at several parts where I had to go back and figure out where his finger was that he had to move it, or if he was still choking her or if he’d stopped. It was pretty depraved at parts and I liked how dirty it was. I’ve read books where it’s sex nonstop and it was really TOO MUCH and actually had to stop because the story lost all meaning. This book didn’t do that. I do think that I skimmed because otherwise I wouldn’t have been so confused but overall I didn’t hate it and appreciated how much Cole loves Elle.

They made stupid moves near the end that had me eye rolling. There were a few things I was confused about. The writing was a bit messy at times and I caught a few typos but I appreciated the author’s willingness to “go there” - so I was more tolerant.

At about 70%, I wanted to know how it ended but started looking for my next read. The ending is a cliffy where an addicted reader would drop everything and open book 2 immediately. This book didn’t make me feel like that. If the buddy read does book 2 - I’ll probably join - but no desire to move on right now. I was a bit annoyed at the events that brought them to the situation they find themselves in. I’m sure I’ll get over it and might pick up book 2 sooner than later as it’s been hours and I’m still thinking about it.

Overall - I liked the book. I liked the initial shock and delight factor. I also liked the MMC - who made the book for me. Although I’m not sure everyone will like it as much as I did or for all the reasons I like it, it’s definitely worth a try as there were enough good parts to keep me reading to the end.

Crikey. Ace Gray is a new author to me. I've seen the hype about the second book in this serious being released so I had to jump right into this to see what was going on and wasn't I in for a great surprise.

The story starts with a bang and the author just keeps throwing the twists at us. I seriously could not read this quick enough. When I wasn't reading it I was thinking about it.

Jump on this rollercoaster ride if you like the darker and twistier kinda reads. I'm so glad I waited to have book two before I jumped into this one. See you on the other side :)

Labelled this under DNF and giving it just 2STARS for even reading four chapters and then realising that I just couldn't carry on. I know this book is pretty good and some of you more but for me it's just not connecting with me but I have no problem connecting with Cole though lol, but who knows I could read this at a later date. We'll see.

Twisted Fate took my breath away. Quite literally. I found myself having to put the book down because I could not breathe. I became so enraptured by the story that I was forgetting to do basic human things, like breath. Cole and Elle are unique and like nothing else I have ever read. Twisted Fate is dark and twisty, constantly walking the tightrope of going too far without stepping over.

Ace Gray’s writing is flawless and smooth. Like a sip of expensive whiskey that going down easy but will still give you a zap at the end. The story will take you to another place entirely and leave you hanging at the edge of your seat. You will feel like you have gone for a run by how fast your heart will be beating. The adventure, danger, mystery will leave you begging for more like a junkie looking for you’re next fix. I can’t fully express my undying love for Ace Gray and Twisted Fate because there aren’t words for it. This book chewed me and spit me out bleeding out from the feels, in the best possible way of course.

I do have to disclaimer though; I don’t think this is a book for everyone. The darkness and uncommon themes run deep here so the squeamish should stay away. I found myself cringing at times even. But for those of you brave enough or daring enough or curious enough you must give Twisted Fate a chance. This read is something truly special, a once in a lifetime read and like nothing else. These characters will scare you, piss you off, make you fall in love, sicken you, make you fall in love again and at times make you question your sanity; but in the end it is so worth it!

I loved Twisted Fate, I love Ace Gray, and I am rather impatiently waiting for book 2!

I DNF'd around page 30. Everything was just too jumpy and oddly worded. The flow was off. I wasn't connecting to the mc's at all.

I also thought the sex scenes were bizarrely worded. Strange. Weird.

What I read was steamy. Sort of. And definitely very adult.
But they just didn't flow well. It was like reading hiccups. You start to get into it, there's a Hiccup and your at a different place than you should be.

Anyway, some of my other GR friends and group Buddy Readers enjoyed it. So this one is definitely a 'Taste' thing.

There is a TON of sex. To the point you kind of get over it.

Some of my friends who finished the book (which I definitely did not) said the plot got better and there was more story later in the book.
Oh, it ends on a cliffhanger as this is a duet.

All I know is this book isn't for me. I like a nice smooth flow to my books. And this does not have that.

This book made me...
Intrigued.
Hot and bothered.
Angry.
Hurt.

This book pulls you in from the beginning. The chemistry between Elle and Cole and the wonderful way that this book was written just sucks you into the story and you can’t help but want to continue and find out where this story will take you.

This book consumed my thoughts. My heart. It’s been days since I finished it and I’m still thinking about it.
It was dark, raw, complex, sexy, messed up, at times disturbing and it was FANTASTIC!

This story gutted me. There were times that I wanted to scream at the characters; “No, don't do it!” Other times I was just like, “Wow. That was hot and amazing!” I just love books that make me FEEL.

I love Cole and I think a huge part of that reason is because this story was told from both Elle and Cole’s perspectives. As a reader you can’t help but fall in love with him. There’s no denying the love and chemistry between Elle & Cole.

I was so invested in the story and its complex characters. I NEED book two so badly!

I highly recommend this book if you are looking for a dark romance but be warned Cole & Elle’s world isn’t for the faint of heart. I wish I had the right words to say how good this was but you just have to read it for yourself to feel the impact of this well written twisted story.

First off I never heard of this Author until I found out about a recent book of hers called Pretty Little things. Once that book went live I devoured that book. I fell in love fast, so I knew I had to buy more of Ace's books.

This book is FREAKING CRAZY!!!! THE BEGINNING WAS VERY INTENSE WITH THE SENSUAL ATTRACTION, THEN IT GOT SCARY AND MORE DELICIOUS YES THESE ARE ALL IN CAPS BECAUSE IM YELLING HOW GOOD THIS BOOK IS MY GOD I'M STILL TRYING TO CALM MY NERVES!!

Please go into this story blind if you think you can handle the darkness. I'm so excited to read book 2 that was one heck of a cliffy.

I'm not usually one for instalove, and I honestly thought it wouldn't work for me, but when you put Cole & Ladyface together and add a horse!....then I'm on board!.

Horse....read it, you'll get it.

Micky & Siobhan are pure evil....but very addictive to read.

The story flowed, oh so well. It was seamless.

That cliffhanger KILLED me!. But I'm very much looking forward to book 2.

Wow...seriously killing me with this one!!!

...In the greatest way possible, of course! It's been a couple days since I finished this book, and yet, I still can't quite figure out how to say just how freaking amazing it is! I knew when I read the blurb and skimmed over some of the reviews that it was going to be a wild ride, but it still surpassed all of my expectations! Ace Gray is a damn genius and completely blew me away with this dark, sexy, mysterious, HOT, and super intense book! I can't say enough about it all so I'm not going to even try. I will just say THANK YOU for this amazing story, Ace Gray, and PLEASE HURRY UP with book 2!!! I'm dying to read more!!!
Also, make sure to read the warnings given by the author. If this kind of subject matter isn't for you, don't read and then give bad reviews for that reason only...that's why the warnings are given. You can just give it a honest shot...read it with an open mind and see what happens. You may like it more than you thought! :) Point is, don't knock it til you try it!

5 Bloody Amazing Stars!!
Oh. My. Goodness. What just happened?!?! I can't. The ending.. what?!

Twisted Fate started off with a bang! Literally. And then it sucks you right into Cole and Elle's Twistedly fated, dark and dirty relationship.

I LOVED it! Their story was told in such a way that just worked and it was so well done!!

I was HOOKED on every word, action and emotion the characters were feeling. It was so good I don't have the right words to describe how intense and equally beautiful their love was.

Just one click this bloody amazing twisted fairy tale to see for yourself! It is a definite must read!!

It's been a few days since I've finished Twisted Fate and I'm still at a loss for words. I don't think I can do it justice with my review but I'll try....
Twisted Fate starts off with a bang. It pulled me right in and I never wanted to leave. This book was everything to me... I felt love, lust, anger, hope, sadness, extreme hate... EVERYTHING with this book.
Cole and Elle (gah these two!) I had so much love for them both, as individuals and as a couple. Throw in Horse and Conrad and I was gone for this group of twisted fuckers. As far as Mickey Maloney and Siobhan... I hated them with a passion like no other. But that's what I love about this book, it made me feel.
Twisted Fate is dark, very dark. It pushes boundaries and by pushes , I mean shoves them over the edge at times. It's not for everybody. I don't want to give too much away, so I won't. I will say that I love this side of Ace Gray's writing and I can't wait for book 2!
