No records show how it happened, though everyone has their beliefs as to why the golden age of man fell seven hundred years ago. Since, humanity has managed to rebuild a modest civilization from the ruins. Now a medieval war begins to ravage the land once known as America. The lives of six young men become ensnared in the violence as they serve the Eastern army. Chief among them are Tavin, the son of a respected general and Seneca, a physician drafted away from his studies. Loved ones left at home are threatened when Kayzitt, the zealot Western officer, leads his marauders behind enemy lines. His cruel methods devastate every community he encounters and the East seems doomed to fall under its own weight as he makes a name for himself in the legends of the militaristic West. But the six heroes notice that something has changed inside themselves. Their minds are subtly connected in a way that cannot be explained but lends them increased prowess on the battlefield. Inevitably, their skills place them on a collision course with Kayzitt that will shape the future of the nation. Age of Rust is a tale of displaced youth, the struggle for life, and the peril of love in war-time. It is an ode to masculine vainglory and the valor in conflict as it bridges with the feminine witness of human corruption and loss of innocence.
I love future based stories so I had to read this book y’all. This book starts a few hundred years in the future in the US, specifically Kentucky. There are a few characters in this book and Tavin is the main character we hear most about in the book. There are a total of 6 characters in this book we hear from throughout the book.
The writing was good in this book and was very engaging for the readers as they read. As the characters go through the story you get the idea that the characters are connected in a weirdly telepathic means. This helps the characters with fighting through the battles and fights through the book.
Also the setting of the book, is a war between the entirely of the US and the world that we currently know is gone. They live in a very small village or small group of people that live together. The characters are all men in this book and I like that about the book, It is refreshing to read books told from men’s POV’s and to not have women in it that don’t belong there like too many books in the market today. This is such an action packed read and I can not wait to see where the story goes next!
Over 700 years ago, the world as we know it failed and civilizations crumbled. The history of this catastrophic event was either destroyed or never recorded, bringing us to the 2770’s from the point of view of several men drowning in a war. Our main characters are 6 men with a special power linking their consciouses brought on by poisoning they experienced during their training. This connection gives them a major advantage during battle and will help them change the course of history for their nation.
The Age of Rust is a thought provoking novel presenting moral questions on the length men go to during war and one’s desperation to survive. I found the use of changing POV well done and didn’t feel any confusion during the story telling. I did, however, resent the absolute lack of any women present in any meaningful way; it was disappointing and stereotypical. I think this book would’ve greatly benefited from some more diversity but I do appreciate and recognize the autism representation through Oil’ib.
I received a gift copy of this book and I’m leaving this review voluntarily.
The plot centres around the bond of these 6 soldiers, the which develops between them after they are poisoned during their training, even since this their consciousness seems to be linked whenever they are in battle. But it also takes a deeper look at the effects and sacrifices of war on these young soldiers, and on the communities left behind. Although it’s set in the 2700s, the post-apocalyptic world makes it feel set in the distant past, adding a vulnerability to the group.
It’s a lengthy book at 400+ pages, and somewhat of a slow burn, but it never lost my interest. With the multiple POVs switching between the protagonists, antagonist and supporting characters it keeps the story developing at a good pace.
The only thing which let it down slightly for me was the female supporting characters, they really lacked personality, development and adding anything substantial to the plot.
‘Age of Rust’ was a bit of a slow burn for me, taking a little while to get going. I found the story interesting and the world building to be good. The six main characters were intriguing although I would have liked a bit more detail about where they came from and what their backstories were. I like the idea of the six of them being sent out to try and save the East and the whole story really had me gripped. I wasn’t too keen on the female characters in the novel and they were very much written through the eyes of the male characters, I would have liked them to have had a little more depth but overall, this was an interesting look at the effects of war and an intriguing science fiction take on a future world.
I received a gifted copy of this novel. This review is my honest opinion and written voluntarily.
Think a fantasy version of THE THINGS THEY CARRIED by Tim.
There were a lot of fight scenes in this book. They were well written and intriguing but I don't really enjoy any fight scene really.
The characters were fun and opened up conversations about God, and the reasons people to what the do.
The setting of this story was the most interesting aspect of the whole thing. It was set in America but past and present was mixed together to create this future that is set 300 years in the future. (I think. My math is almost always wrong.) I really enjoyed the descriptions of the ruins of Nashville and the history and Lore behind the fall of the old world. I just wish I knew the reason or the war and why the East and West were fighting. That wasn't very clear.
If you like fast paced adventure stories with complex character relationships than you skuId give this a try.
This book really took me by surprise - I mean, as I often do, I went in without any spoilers and not having read the blurb at all. From the front cover, I'd expected this to be more of a historical fiction novel, but as soon as I started reading, it was clear that this was set in a dystopian future where a savage war raged between East and West.
This took me a little while to get into at first - possibly because of the change of genre - I needed to shift my thinking and perspective - but it didn't take long for me to be raci g through the pages.
The world building was really well done and flowed nicely into the storyline without feeling too clunky. The descriptive writing was immersive and I could clearly visualise this new world.
Our heroes were well presented and I loved their development throughout the book - becoming connected with each other and coming to terms with their new power on the battlefield made for an exciting read which was full of action and adventure.
An unexpected but enjoyable read - I'd be keen to see future works by these authors.
Such an action packed tale, with an immersive almost apocalyptic tale of war. This takes place in an alternate timeline where the world as we know it ended 700 years ago. It’s a slow burn, with a BEAUTIFUL cover that I simply had to make an ‘extra💅🏻’ digital graphic to show it off. It has so many moral implications, tied in with multi-pov chapters. At first, the sheer amount of characters were startling, but never confusing. I loved that this was a PURE adventure and action, with a lot of grit and hard-won lessons. I was actually surprised that this was a debut novel, because its style is so well practiced and self confident. The relationships in it were multi-faceted between each of the 6 characters. And they end up going through a WHOLE LOT, so you have plenty to lose yourself in and enjoy while you enjoy this.
This is book 2 in this series and I feel like this book just started off with a bang and I was just gripped I couldn't get enough. I mean the way these authors write together is pure genius. I absolutely loved it. I didn't really have a favorite character I loved reading the multiple POV I really feel you get a giant picture of the story and I mean the twists and turns gripped me and I couldn't turn the page fast enough. I really love the time frame too I thought was really fascinating. Ilove the super natural vibe this book brings to the table. Like it has so much to offer anyone really and the battle scenes wow!! I felt like I watching it all unfold on a tv !! Was so real and descriptive I couldn't get enough !!! In need of more from these authors cause amazing is just not a good enough word!!!
I thoroughly enjoyed Age of Rust, although I did find it to be somewhat of a slow burner for me, taking a little while to get going, that’s not to say I didn’t enjoy this novel, as I certainly did.
I found the story line to be interesting and the world building was great.
Age of Rust definitely kept me on the edge of my seat, it being action packed with a thought provoking plot. Add in some brilliant character development and I found myself being immersed in the world of Age of Rust.
I found this novel to be a real page turner, which I flew through in two sittings. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a riveting story and can't wait for Thaddeus and Conrad's next novel.
Age of Rust is a fast paced action packed story of a post apocalyptic America. It is a story that highlights the battle for survival which takes each character past their breaking points. I’m a huge Multi POV fan so I appreciated that we were able to see the different perspectives of our cast as they navigated this trying time.
I’m so glad the cover caught my eye, admittedly, I’m new to sci fi reads but with the world building the plot and ending I was left questioning why I hadn’t picked up this genre before. Looking for a quick read possibly out of your comfort zone, I recommend Age of Rust, and will look for further works from these 2 authors.
Age of Rust by Thaddeus Yeiser is a gripping tale set in a post-apocalyptic world where a medieval war rages on. The lives of six young men become intertwined as they serve the Eastern army and confront the cruelty of the zealot Western officer, Kayzitt. The novel beautifully explores themes of displacement, the struggle for survival, and the complexities of love in times of war. With a blend of masculine vainglory and feminine witness, the story delivers a powerful narrative that will keep readers captivated until the very end. Very well written and worthy of the 5 stars I’m giving it!
This was a very interesting read from the start. After reading the first couple of chapters, I was intrigued on what this book was going to entail. I was excited as I was reading, I loved reading about the characters, and seeing hoe they developed throughout the book. The characters went through a lot throughout this book which helped the story. The way in which the book ended was something in which shocked me. It was something I didn’t see coming, even so I really enjoyed it.
I thoroughly enjoyed Age of Rust, it certainly kept menon the edge of my seat. Not only is it action packed, but it has a though provoking plot as well and wonderful character development. I found myself being immersed in the characters' struggles. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a riveting story. Can't wait for Thaddeus and Conrad's next novel!
