I write novels that explore friendship, self-discovery and the challenges life brings us, leavened with a touch of humor. I'm proud of all my books and perhaps best known for my "Ten Beach Road" titles including the USA Today bestsellers, Ten Beach Road and The House on Mermaid Point, and for While We Were Watching Downton Abbey.
I was born in St.Petersburg, Florida and grew up on St. Pete Beach within spitting distance of the Gulf of Mexico. I went, appropriately enough, to Sunshine Elementary School where recess and art class sometimes took place on the beach, and the highlight of every school year was the annual fish broil.
It’s hard to be a type-A personality when you grow up in such a laid back environment, but I managed. Convinced that you were expected to know how to read BEFORE you showed up for school, I forced a neighbor friend to teach me to read at the age of five. I’ve been reading ever since.
Books, in all forms, are one of my greatest pleasures and best forms of escape. And they’ve had a major impact on my life.
I went to the University of Georgia after reading Gone with the Wind one too many times. For a while I re-read Margaret Mitchell’s classic yearly, saw the movie whenever it played within twenty miles, and could quote large passages from memory. Today I have a growing GWTW collection, and the time I spoke at he Margaret Mitchell House was an incredible thrill.last
After college I worked in radio, television, and film. Like Olivia in 7 DAYS AND SEVEN NIGHTS, I’ve done live talk radio. I hosted a show in the eighties called Desperate & Dateless, and while I was never locked in an apartment for a week with a webcam rolling as she was, I did fall in love. Happily, the man who swept me off my feet consults with financial types and understands the bottom line. Unlike Olivia’s nemesis, Matt Ransom, my husband has never, to my knowledge, advised anyone to ‘love the one they’re with.’ We live in Atlanta with our two sons.
I somehow feel cheated after reading this book. It consists of two novellas that supposedly fit in between some of the books in this series. To be clear -I LOVED the Ten Beach Road series and have read and enjoyed every book. These novellas are not new, I already knew what happened and wondered if they were just excerpts from the books, packaged as “Christmas” novellas. I didn’t enjoy reading rehashed stories.
2 short stories for the Christmas season.. This book is part of the Ten Beach Road series and are listed as 2.5 and 5.5. They were previously released separately as novella's. The ladies are all gathered in Bella Flora but Kyra is facing a major decision regarding her son and his father. The stories have the definite Christmas feel good themes and if you missed them being published separately this is a good way to include them in you collection. Wendy Wax always gives you a good read and these are the perfect length to enjoy. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
It was nice to revisit the ladies of Ten Beach Road in this collection of two Christmas novellas. They are officially book 2.5 and 5.5 of the series. I have only read book one of the series but was able to keep up. All hasn't gone well for the ladies, and we follow their journeys and join them for some Christmas cheer. Both novellas were originally published separately so be mindful of that before you purchase what you have already read.
The problem with reading these two novellas together is that you notice repetitious descriptions and humorous remarks in both of them, which emphasizes the limited writing skills of the author. Also, each story ends abruptly with no resolution unless you read the complete series in order. Do that, if you're a fan. I'm not.
If you read any of the others in this series, please don't waste your time on this one - it is a complete regurgitation of the other books - written from the perspective of the trampy, young daughter (who is also clueless about life) of the main character, which makes it all the more painful to read - I guess Wax is writing cliff notes for her books now.
This book includes two different stories of Kyra and the rest of the gang at Bella Flora. The first has them gathering together to celebrate Christmas before moving out. The second is a different type of Christmas celebration at Bella Flora and the decisions that will be made.
This book is two novellas placed in one book - Christmas at the Beach and A Bella Flora Christmas; however, I did not know this when I bought this book online, so was disappointed to find out I had read both stories before receiving this book.
Great series, I felt as though these were friends. They experienced tough times and found the resources within themselves to cope, they also grew as people and as friends.
This is really just a repackaging of two previously published (& read) novellas, Christmas at the Beach & A Bella Flora Christmas. Glad I didn’t buy this since I had already read both.
Two older books re-released as one Christmas book. Poorly written, mediocre story of the "rich and famous" smattered with profanity. I won't bother to read this author again.
After reading all of the Ten Beach Road series, I enjoyed this book, consisting of two Christmas novellas. The stories take place between the existing novels and are told from one character (Kyra's) perspective.
Read the 2 novellas in one day. Some of the same lines were used in each book. I enjoy the Ten Beach Road series...thought I'd learn something new. But I didn't.
