Mitch Walker's week starts strangely enough when, half drunk, he finds himself intervening in an armed robbery. The bizarre outcome of this encounter does nothing to prepare him for what lies ahead in the coming days. Heart breaking events lead him down a dangerous path into the ruthless LA underworld, where his chances of survival are slim.

Prior Violations is the prequel novella to Brazen Violations by Aussie author Jonathan Macpherson and is fast paced and full of action, with Mitch Walker getting himself into more and more trouble as the days go by. When he loses his job through no fault of his own, then needs to raise money fast, his decisions lead him into the worst situation he could possibly imagine. How did he find himself in the dark underworld of Los Angeles? And how is he going to get out β alive? A quick, entertaining read which I recommend.
With thanks to the author for my digital ARC to read in exchange for an honest review.
I was provided with a free audio copy via the author/publisher through Netgally in exchange for my honest review.
This prequel novella is filled with action. The plotline follows a drug heist that goes wrong and how the criminals, (both high and low on the totem pole), and the cops respond. This had a very "Reservoir Dogs" feel to it in my opinion. Overall a quick enjoyable read, I'll definitely read the next book in the series.
Having been lucky enough to be offered a copy of PRIOR VIOLATIONS for review I was intrigued to see it come with it's own curated Spotify music list. Made for a particularly unusual reading experience although the music would probably mean more to fans of American TV and movies, nearly all of which I've not seen.
PRIOR VIOLATIONS is the prequel novella to BRAZEN VIOLATIONS, both of them are high-octane, action based thrillers in styling, dark and violent with a believable, sympathetic central character. Given the restricted length of a novella, there's no mucking about with PRIOR VIOLATIONS, right from the start you're knee deep in some very dodgy goings on.
Not that Mitch Walker is a dodgy character, he's just down on his luck, jobless, and a bit lost; when his sister and his desperately ill nephew are involved in a hit and run, at the same time that a mildly pissed Mitch intervenes in an armed robbery in progress, and he goes from hero, to a heap of trouble in a very short space of time.
This novella leads onto a fuller story around Mitch in BRAZEN VIOLATIONS, where Mitch is still stepping in to help his family, generating a world of pain and complications for himself in the process. It's a nice balance of high-octane, big bad guys against one good guy in a fight for right style of storytelling. More than enough action, with a touch of a cinematic feel to it, there's also some human compassion to offset the "what the" moments. Not enough to make it a movie script in the reading, just enough to make you think about who would star in that movie should it ever come to pass.
PRIOR VIOLATIONS is a great read if you're a fan of big action, big threat, big everything styled thriller, especially if you don't mind your hero a bit on the flawed but good bloke side of humanity.
With a dying nephew, a man has no choice but to drive a dealer to a pickup in order to gain an introduction to a crooked doctor. Trying to get black market cancer drugs is a bitch, as Mitch finds out. With bodies dropping, will he get out alive? Let alone save his nephew?
Prior Violations is the prequel novella to the authors Brazen Violations book.
I really enjoyed the novella, it was fast paced and gritty, and it eas really interesting that we got to 'see' all of the main players rather than just from one point of view. I'll definitely pick up Brazen Violations now, just to see what happens with Mitch after that ending!
Thank you to the author for providing me with a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
I would like to thank Johnathan MacPherson for my gifted digital copy, in exchange of an honest review.
My intentions with Prior Violations was to just read a few pages to get the jist of the story, I didn't realise it was a novella until I started it. An hour later and I'm sat here finished the story and wanting more. Luckily, Brazen Violations is out to buy on kindle and paperback. (Already downloaded my copy)
Ok, so because it's a novella there's no fluff or padding out. It's just straight out action and drama. And, I loved it. One minute you're knee deep in some criminal action with a gang of men intent on robbing a pharmaceutical van. This gang is headed up by Doc, he is a master mind of the ultimate proportions. He has more tech and wizardry than the police force and is always one step ahead.
Then we follow the story of Mitch. He's a bit down on his luck, and his day just gets worse and worse. Sacked from his job, caught up in an armed robbery, becomes a hero, finds out his sister is involved in a hit and run... And, that is just the start of his story.
Prior Violations is a fantastic set up story for what's to come. I'll be honest and say I was purely gutted with the ending, just because I wanted more right there and then. So, a tip for you! Make sure you have the next book ready.
Prior Violations is jam packed with action. If you want a super quick read that will get your heart racing then this is perfect for you.
This is a great suspenseful collection of two books by a newer author for me. I enjoyed the twists and turns that had me sitting on the edge of my seat just waiting to see what would happen next. This is a well written story where the author's use of details brought the story to life on each page. His characters are relateable and kept me wanting to know more. This is a fast paced story that is full of action, suspense and hard to put down. An engaging story that is worth the pick up for sure. A story full of evil criminals that will make you question how far you will go for those you love. I enjoyed being pulled into the story by the characters as well as the growth of the plot throughout. This is a great collection of suspenseful books that I highly recommend.
I really enjoyed this novella. It flowed very smoothly and was extremely engaging. I thought there was good character development even in the short time we had with Mitch. I am not a big fan of the use of FBombs in the novels I read, but the writing was good enough that I was able to look past my discomfort. Iβm looking forward to reading Brazen Violations.
I received a copy of this novella through Voracious Readers Only.
Buckle up, because you basically need a seatbelt as you careen through this short, and fast-paced read! Leaves you panting in anticipation of the reading the novel, Brazen Violations. Highly recommend for those people who enjoy a good good guy/bad guy story. Brace for whiplash!
This is a very fast paced story, following the activities of several people in the same time frame. Police, drug dealers, and innocent bystanders, are all caught in a snatch and grab, followed by the a couple of situations the fleeing crooks cause. Yes it is exciting, dramatic and terrifying. An excellent series prequel.
I enjoyed this prequel. Although short, this fast paced story introduced us to all the pertinent characters and what will be their driving motivations throughout this series. I look forward to reading the next book.
Prior Violations is the prequel to Brazen Violations and is a fast-paced, action-packed quick read. This book introduces us to Mitch Walker, a man on the edge who ends up in the LA underworld in an attempt to save his nephew.
I received this novella through VoraciousReadersOnly and it was a fascinating read. The fast- placed action of the characters really kept my attention and I completed the novella within a few hours. I am definitely hooked and desperately need to continue my reading of the next novel.
This book was gripping and I really wanted to know what came next, it ended in a cliffhanger, leaving me wanting to know more. From VRO, a great story and well drawn characters, wish I knew how it ended.
This is a short story - the audiobook is around 1.5 hours. It is a good introduction to the characters. If you are looking of a short suspense read, then this would be a good one to pick up. Full review soon.
Prior violation by Jonathan MacPherson. This is a prequel novella to brazen violation. A very good read. Action and suspense. A good start to a series. 4*.
I received a complimentary copy of this book via Voracious Readers Only. From the first page I was hooked, I finished it in one sitting. Can't wait to continue the story in Brazen Violations. I would highly recommend this author.
TW: blood and gore, violence, death, strong language, child illness
Mitch Walker has no idea that stopping an armed robbery is about to send his life on a tailspin. Events after take him down an increasingly dangerous and deadly path. Is he going to make it out alive? Side plots include a crime bossβs deadly activities and the life threatening illness of someone close to Walker.
I absolutely loved this short prequel. The book is nonstop action from start to finish. Thereβs a lot of characters to keep track of but they are all incredibly fleshed out and realized. I read this in a day because I just couldnβt put it down. You really feel for the main characters and for their plight. The villains are threatening without being too cartoonishly evil.
Overall I really loved this and I canβt wait to read the story that this is the prequel to.
I received a free copy from Voracious Readers Only in exchange for an honest review. This was an extremely fast read, not only because of its novella length but because the action did not stop, it moved along at a breakneck pace. There was zero filler. I appreciate that. It read like an episode of a TV show, but not in a bad way. Lots of violence, a little humor, and some pathos in the form of Pete, the protagonist's dying nephew. Even though it was very short and there was not much room for character development, I felt immediately invested in them and their outcomes. I'll check out the next book, for sure.
