Along with Sara’s case that she has agreed to take on as a favour to her boss, her ex in laws never seem to be far away. I have a feeling that there is more to come from this particular thread in future books. She certainly doesn’t have it easy when all she wants to do is move on with her life and be happy.
There is a lot of investigation work to do with the victim seemingly just disappearing. It goes to show just how much leg work that detectives do in trying to solve cases. Whilst this isn’t one of the authors darker books, it still makes for a gripping read with a shocking outcome.
It is also interesting finding out more about the victim. Any skeletons in the closet seem to have a way of coming out when there is a crime involved. It’s funny how you change your perceptive of them as things come to light.
The Lies She Told is yet another unputdownable read. It’s hard to put into words just how much I enjoy this author’s books. The cover perfectly depicts what awaits the readers inside and it makes for a tense and enthralling read.
My thanks to the author for an advanced readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own and not biased in anyway.
What a case of a 'Missing' person!! When checking into this person's past, hard blasts of truths place her in a bad light, making it hard for intrepid cops like DI Sara Ramsey and her partner, DS Carla, to actually feel good finding her! The things she has done to those close to her would make anyone run the other way! But Sara and Carla are all about the job, and start searching through every piece of information and every past co-worker or friend to try to find out just where she could be... Every person has things in their life that we keep hidden away from others, so in a way readers can relate to some choices the missing lady, Laura, has made BUT I sincerely hope that her cruelty level never touches anyone I know! DI Sara has a tough case, especially since it was handed to her team by her Boss, DCI Carol Price, and her own personal life is always interesting, making a difficult case and frustrations enhanced. Again this author brings every feeling, emotion and action to life, so that while you read you Live though every moment..and must take a few minutes to breathe before you can close the page...
Laura Tyler has disappeared. Although DI Sara Ramsey and her team don't normally handle missing persons cases, because Laura is a member of a prominent family ... and Sara's boss is a personal friend of the family, she and her team are called upon to investigate.
As Sara and her team dig into Laura's background, they become shocked. According to friends, co-workers, boss, ex-boss, ex-boyfriends, Laura is not how her family have described her.
When it becomes apparent that Laura has not disappeared on her own, but has been abducted, the case takes on new meaning. Who would want to take her ... why? And if the abductor means to kill her, how much time is left?
This is another brilliant crime fiction by this author featuring DI Sara Ramsey and her team of crime fighters. It's always entertaining to watch how the exact police procedures are done that usually reach an unexpected, surprising conclusion. Although 7th in the series, this is easily read as a stand-alone. However, I highly recommend starting at the very beginning... makes for some really good reading.
Many thanks to the author for the digital copy of this crime fiction. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
This missing persons case is the seventh in the DI Sara Ramsey series, and a stunning surprise. Sara Ramsey and her partner Carla Jameson are homicide detectives, but are asked to investigate the disappearance of their boss’s friend’s daughter, Laura Tyler. The missing woman, it turns out, was a person of some unpleasant secrets, and Sara’s team soon regrets taking on the case. But they are professionals, and here is where talented author M.A. Comley ratchets up the fascination by showing the painstaking legwork that involves police investigations. The pressure on Sara becomes tremendous, especially since, simultaneously, she’s trying to plan her wedding to her longtime boyfriend, Mark, as well as deal with her ex mother-in-law, a demanding, selfish woman determined that Sara mourn the death of her first husband forever.
This is a fantastic addition to a wonderful series. The twists and turns are stellar, the characters wonderful, and the kidnapper turns out to be a complete surprise. I love this author and always look forward to her next book. Highly recommended for those who enjoy police procedurals with fabulous characters! Five stars!
Sara's boss asks her and her team to investigate the disappearance of a woman called Laura who is a friend's daughter of DCI Price. This turns into a very complex hard investigation with next to no leads. Laura Tyler went missing from university. Later, Laura's car is found abandoned.
This was in an interesting, unforgettable and flawless plot.
Characters
Sara is back, and she is one of my favourite characters, and the author is still continuing to develop Sara's character. She is wonderful, smart and affable. Sara is trying to organise her wedding to Mark but this keep getting put back.
There are lots more well-rounded interesting characters, old and new. I have to to mention my dislike of Sara's ex mother-in-law; she needs a quick slap lol.
Writing Style/Pacing
Mel is one of my all-time favourite authors, she delivers 100% every single time. This was slightly different to her normally gruesome tragic murders. But although this was a missing person case, the author still wrote this fantastically and kept us gripped from start to finish. I read this book in three hours and I love that Comley doesn't pack of her books.
Themes/Settings
The setting is vividly set out and described well.
Cover
Stunning as always.
Overall Thoughts
This was in an interesting, unforgettable and flawless plot. Mel is one of my all-time favourite authors, she delivers 100% every single time. This was slightly different to her normally gruesome tragic murders. But although this was a missing person case, the author still wrote this fantastically and kept us gripped from start to finish.
Well Mel has done it again! If you're looking for a good fast paced book with plenty of twists and turns I urge you pick up any of her books. This one was no exception. Sara and her team find themselves investigating a different type of case than what they are used to; a missing person case. At times when you are reading you find yourself very confused, and wondering where you are going . Around in circles, just like Sara and her team But this is a mark of Mel's writing. You don't question it. Just go along for the ride. And what a ride it was! Her books are great and for someone so prolific you keep waiting for the quality to drop. You will have a long wait! She may not be Tolstoy, he may have wrote War and Peace, but then again he never wrote a DI. Sara Ramsey book! I urge you to pick up one of Mel's books you will enjoy it. Once you do I'm sure you'll be hooked.I know I am. Mel has several series running, even a cosy crime one. So something for everyone
This was a slightly different change of pace for this series, for a start it's not as dark as some of the authors recent books, but not only that, its a missing persons case at the heart of the book and not a murder.
We get snippets of real time of what is happening to Laura, and it's not great. Equally as the team investigate you realise we are looking into a person's disappearance where very few people have anything that great to say about her.
Yet DI Sara Ramsey and her team are professionals although they seem to struggle a lot with this case, as there just seems to be no leads at all, and Laura is just coming across as really unlikable.
I believe this book could be read as a standalone, and it was good we get to see a bit more of some of the other team members too not just Sara and Carla.
It's another fabulous addition to the series, which I devoured really quickly and was hooked on, I read the majority in one sitting, and loved the race against time for Sara and her team, to see if they would be able to find Laura alive.
I am already looking forward to the next book in the series, and can't wait to see what direction the author takes us in next.
Thank you to the author for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
Here is my review of The Lies She Told by M A Comley. It’s the seventh book in the DI Sara Ramsey series which is set in lovely Hereford.
Laura Tyler is happy. She has a nice boss, been with her boyfriend, Andy, for a few months and they are now living together. She had changed jobs, moving from the bank to the University to be PA to the Chancellor.
One night when working late. Laura left the university but didn’t get far before the car broke down. She tried Andy but he was drunk already, so she decided to walk home although it was raining hard. She hadn’t gone far when a car stopped and offered her a lift. She accepted and gave directions to her home but became worried when they missed the turning. When she mentioned it, he sneered at her, ‘It’s all part of my plan. Your car didn’t break down on it’s own, I helped it!’ He took her to a dilapidated barn, marching her to the furthest point where there was a bale of hay and some chains. He wrapped the chain around her waist and padlocked it to a loop in the wall. She was now a prisoner.
Lin Robertson, Laura’s mum, spoke to DCI Carol Price as they are friends. She tasked DI Sara Ramsey with finding Laura. She questions Andy, the boyfriend but he doesn’t seem too bothered about her missing which niggles Sara. They question her work colleagues, the bank and her ex-husband. They become more shocked about Laura the more they learn.
As Sara believes the boyfriend is involved, she organises surveillance on him. They managed to catch him in Sainsbury’s car park doing a drugs deal. Whilst searching the car, there is Laura’s hair and a piece from her blouse in the boot of the car. He puts his hands up to the drugs but denies kidnapping Laura, reckons he’s been set up. Sarah starts to believe him. If they release him, could they carry on surveillance to make sure he is not the abductor?
Who is behind her abduction? Why no ransom demand? Is the boyfriend involved? Is Laura still alive?
Absolutely fantastic read, this book had me hooked from the start and I was so surprised by the abductor, well done Mel! Cloaked in mystery, well written and great descriptive detail. I love the DI Sara Ramsey and this is a great addition.
Sara Ramsey and her team are having a bit of a break after solving some hectic murder cases, so when asked to investigate the disappearance of her boss’s friend’s daughter, Laura Tyler, Sara agrees to do so. It doesn’t take long before the team starts regretting taking on this investigation, the deeper they delve into Laura’s past, the more it seems like Laura was not a very nice person and the kidnapper could be any one of a number of people, but wow, I never even suspected the one it turned out to be. While all this is going on, Sara is supposed to be planning her wedding to the lovely and patient Mark as well as coming face to face with her mother-in-law again when her late husbands brother is involved in a terrible accident, this woman seems to feel that Sara must mourn the death of her first husband forever and never move on…. somewhat very selfish. Once again, a brilliant story full of suspense. MA Comley never, ever disappoints and I am already looking forward to whatever is next…. And knowing this author, it won’t be a long wait. Definite 5*
When a young woman goes missing, DI Sara Ramsey is called upon by her Chief to investigate. The missing girl is the daughter of a friend of the chief. Upon questioning the parents and the victims boss, Sara is left baffled as the young girl seems perfect. But all is not as it seems and further questions make the past surface and reveal characteristics of the victim that were well hidden. It now appears Laura was taken because of “the lies she told” But who is behind it? The boyfriend, Sara’s main suspect, has an alibi. It isn’t until a press conference that Sara’s determination is rewarded. I was not expecting the ending, total twist that was executed brilliantly!
Highly recommend this thriller, it reels you in and is a real page turner!
The past holds many secrets and not all of them are good memories. As DI Sara Ramsey works her way through a new case given to her by her chief DCI Price, the more she delves into it the more she stumbles on the fact that not all appears as it should be. A friend of DCI Price had phoned her to ask for help in finding her daughter Laura, who appeared to have gone missing after work. Colleagues ,family ex husband and close friends were all questioned. Finally, after a news conference with journalists Sara, and Carla her partner got the break they needed. It didn’t take this pair of experienced detectives to add all the numbers up and solve the case. I thoroughly enjoy this series because I know , I can get lost within the pages until the very last gasp.
Another fantastic read in the DI sara Ramsey series by MA Comley. Though this the 7th book in the series they can be read as stand alones but I would say read as a series as understand character development more.
Ramsey is asked by her superior to look into a friends missing daughter as she is having a "quiet" spell. The reader already knows that the missing girl as been abducted Has Sara finds out more about Laura (the missing girl) she finds most people didnt like her! But it doesnt stop Sara even though having her own personal turmoil trying to plan her wedding and still grieving for her first husband.
MA Comley is one of my fav authors and she def didnt disappoint with this book even though its the 7th in the series, so looking forward to the 8th book!
The lies she told by MA Comley. Omg. Absolutely brilliant read. I love this author. DI Sara Ramsey is back. DCI Carol Price asks Sara to look into a missing person. Laura Tyler has gone missing and her mother is very worried. The team take on the case. I loved the story and characters. Apart from the abductor. Hope there is more to come. 5*.
I read this on KU and wow!! There’s a missing person, an investigation, and things are not as they should be-she is not who her family believes! There’s a lot of action, a character of Evil that’s truly nasty with enough fabulous characters to balance it out. This series just keeps getting better. You really should download it today. You’ll want to back up and read the whole series.
Thank god this is as short as all the others. And thankfully I only paid £1 for it.. Unlike the others I've read of this set so far this is just so dull! Don't bother unless you find it very cheap somewhere.
Why has Laura been abducted on her way home from work? Sara, Carla and the team are asked to look into the abduction as a favour to their boss. All information collected seems to show a person who lies and likes nothing better than to ruin other people’s lives. The team are going to have their work cut out!
On top of this case, Sara is trying to plan her wedding to Mark, which always ends up on the back burner due to work commitments! When Sara’s brother in law is involved in a nasty accident, Sara then has to spend some time with her late husbands family.
The author has written yet another great book in the DI Sara Ramsey series. There are some wonderful characters in the story and as for Sara’s mother in law, Charlotte - all I shall say is she made me cross!! This was a great who done it with lots of good old fashioned police work.
As easy-to-read thriller with a familiar cast of characters and settings. This author is never pretentious, she just tells it like it is. Dialogue is true-to-life and earthy, and the story line rattles along at a decent pace. What more do you need on a summer afternoon to while away four hours? Apart from a cold one.
This is the seventh book in this series by one of the most prolific authors I know and, as such, usual series rules apply and I am sure you don't need me to spell them out again. Laura has been abducted. On the face of things she has a good life. She's settled in a job she enjoys and had just moved in with her boyfriend. So why was she taken on the way home from work? Personal connections mean that Sara and her team are tasked with investigating but they soon find out that only scratching beneath the surface of Laura's life displays a very different person. This kicks up a whole host of leads that has the police scratching their heads. Can they cut through all the noise, whittle down the clues and find Laura before her time runs out? As with everything I have ever read by this author, it should come as no surprise that I loved this book. Again, as usual, I cleared the decks of my life (not too hard in these days of lockdown) and settled down to read, knowing that I would probably be powerless to put it down. Several hours later, as I turned the last page, well... Everything I expected was front and centre. Great characters both new and existing. The main players continue to develop consistently with plenty of the author's trademark banter. Great plotting, skilfully executed and which kept me on my toes throughout. And, and this is important, absolutely no superfluous padding to dilute the plot and slow the pace down. There's enough description to set scenes and complement the action and the characters' backstories and ongoing development is exactly balanced to what you'd expect from a series book. And the ending, when it came, left me shocked but satisfied. All in all, a cracking addition to an already great series. Roll on next time.
I am a massive fan of this author's books and I was delighted to see that she had a new release in the DI Sara Ramsey series - which is one of my favourites!
I loved being able to catch up with Sara and the gang, I feel really invested in the characters having followed the series from book one, and was really looking forward to seeing what they had been doing!
This book was a little different as it centered around a missing person and that really controlled the pace as there was not the same rushing around to catch a murderer! Whilst it was not the same sort of action packed read that have previously featured in the series but it was good in a different way as Sara really came in to her own as she struggled to find out what had happened to Laura, and she also had the added issue that she took on the case as a favour to her boss so she also had that added pressure to deal with!
The book still held my attention throughout, it was just a little lighter and a little less gruesome compared to some of the other reads in the series, and I think that will really make it a book that appeals to more readers and will hopefully tempt them to pick up a book from this series.
It is a 4.5 stars from me for this one, rounded up to 5 stars for Goodreads and Amazon - it was an enjoyable read and really looking forward to DI Ramsey's next case - and I must say I LOVE that cover!!
My favorite in the DI Sara Ramsey series to date. It isn't often I tag a crime thriller as a 'fun' read. As I get older gruesome doesn't always fit my mood, and although chock full of suspense and mystery, this one isn't at all gruesome.
When Laura Tyler goes missing, DI Sara Ramsey and her team are asked to look into it by DCI Carol Price, a friend of Laura's mother. This adds an extra layer of stress for Sara, as she doesn't want to let her boss down, but as the investigation continues she finds herself torn by the secrets she's uncovering. It appears Laura wasn't a very nice person, and the list of suspects could be huge.
As with all good books, it's difficult to write to a review without spoilers. As I said in the beginning though, this is one of my favorites with well crafted characters and a well orchestrated plot, both making it a delightful read.
Highly recommended to those who enjoy crime thrillers as you get a view from the victim and the abductor. Chock full of mystery and whodunnit. And secrets. Every good book has secrets.
A terrifyingly gripping crime thriller you won't want to miss.
Amazing! Just when you think the stories can't get any better, up comes another exceptionally gripping novel. A young lady suddenly goes missing and although Sara and her team of detectives don't normally handle missing person cases, they agree to open an investigation as a favour to their DCI, Carol Price, whose friend's daughter appears to have disappeared on her way home from work. It transpires she had called her boyfriend who didn't answer her call because he was out drinking with friends. Nobody else has heard from her. Whilst carrying out their investigation, Sarah and her team discover all is not as it first appears and the case is further complicated as they delve into the boyfriend's past. A superb crime thriller you will not want to put down.
Love that we are back with DI Sara Ramsey, and her partner.
This time, they’re off to visit a family, who say they have lost contact with their daughter. The mom and dad say she might be an adult, but she always keeps in touch. Oh, and the mother is a friend of Sara’s boss.
They go to speak to the parents, and are told she is living with her partner. That’s where I would go first.
Sara is no fool. She’s knows what to do. Enjoy following this case, from the start, to the finish. Brilliant story!
Laura Tyler , finishing late one night from her job is abducted on her way home ..Her car is found abandoned. D.I.Sarah Ramsey and her team are having a quiet lull after the last big case they worked on .When DCI Carol Price asks for her help as a favour, Sarah doesn't think twice .At first it seems no-one knows anything ..not her friends, colleagues, her boyfriend or her boss..The deeper Sarah and her partner DC Carla Jameson dig ..they begin to get an insight into Laura's past ..But just who took Laura? and Why...? Is she still alive ...? 5 stars Another Stunning Read
What a bloody great book!!! Read this in less than 24 hours and loved every bit of it. A girl has gone missing and so the story begins. Sara takes on the case at the request of her boss and begins to unravel the story- has a crime even been committed? This case tests Sara and her team the more she learns about the victim. Never in a million years did I see the ending and the person behind it all coming, thoroughly enjoyed this addition to the Sara Ramsey series.
A girl is abducted on her way home from work. Her mother is a friend of the DCI and it's a case of who you know - the chief putting Sara and her team on a !missing person's case, although the are a murder team. Loads of pink herrings, not strong enough to be red ones, and still no joy. Press release gives them part of a number plate, which ties in with card footage, resulting in a suspect and his mobile log solves the case.
This was one of DI Sara Ramsey’s best story. Can’t wait until the next one. I know Book 8 For the Love OF... has got to be spot on!!! I know she is planning her wedding. Hopefully there will be a special place where the wedding takes place. This is the last book of the Series of DI Sara Ramsey. You did an excellent job writing this one MA!!!
Whilst I enjoyed the story and plot line, for me, the book didn't seem to flow as easily as the others have. Maybe its because it was a missing person case, rather than the usual murders we are used to reading about Sara and her team investigating. Something just felt a little off this time. Still an enjoyable read though.
Another great story by MS Comley. And a nice change from the gory stuff involved in murder. But no less fast paced, with no fewer turns than I've come to expect from this author. I mean, whoa thinks of this stuff? Seriously!!! Again , I highly recommend it this book, either as a part of the series or as a stand alone.
Sara and the team are back with another brilliant story. The Sara Ramsey series is my favourite series by this author and I always get excited when a new story is published. The characters are great and I love catching up with whats happening in their personal lives in each book. Huge 5 stars.
