What I really liked about this book is that Tia Carmen's story was told from within her community, with a voice similar to her own. What I think could have been better is the amount of truth told, hardness and beauty described equally. Tia Carmen had a happy life, the book tells us, and it is true, but the suffering is there between the lines and the stories not told of half told, so at the end you got to know her a little, but not as much as you would have liked.
