Rhea can’t believe her ex-flame Varun has shown up in her life again as her new boss! He was her first love, the man she gave herself to body and soul, thinking they would be together forever. But then, without warning or explanation, he dumped her and she was left with broken dreams and a broken heart.
Now he wants Rhea in his life again and won’t take no for an answer. But the hurt and humiliation of the past still rankle and Rhea is not ready to forgive and forget.
Can Varun convince her that his promises are for real? Should Rhea believe him?
An intriguing romantic plot! What will a girl do if the man who jilted her badly six years ago comes back in her life as her boss? Rhea does just what any other girl would do in her position. She puts down her papers and ignores Varun without compromising their professional relationship. But Varun is tenacious and persistent. He wants to make amends, explain and get her pardon but Rhea doesn't have the time to listen to him.
Flitting back and forth the background story of their early relationship is told in flashback. I loved the interactions between their gang of friends who stand up to Rhea when she needs them most. And the chemistry between Rhea and Varun simply sizzles!
So why does Varun jilt Rhea despite loving her passionately? You will have to find it out yourselves!
Rhea holds a senior position in a hotel chain. To her shock, the chain has been sold out to Varun and his father. She had never thought she would set eyes on Varun, ever again. They had been so in love a few years back – until Varun had betrayed her in the worst way possible. Now it looks like he wants them to get back together. Is Rhea ready for her heart to be broken once again?
A cute love story with a five star hotel in the background! Then there are Varun’s friends Ajay and Kirpal who also become Rhea’s friends. A very typical Indian scenario with the parents of both main characters in the background and a lot of back and forth between the two in the form of dialogue throughout the book, keep the reader hooked.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Only a Dream by Jazz Singh. I look forward to reading another book by the same author which is called Against All Odds.
I have to mention here that the cover by Mariyam Iftikar looks delicious.
Only A Dream had an interesting summary, enough to pique the interest of a casual reader. And it was a decently written tale of friendship, love and a woman’s pain of being cheated. Rhea is a successful employee of a large chain of hotels. She is efficient, understanding and pleasing. The story opens with Rhea meeting Varun, a handsome rich business tycoon who is now buying the hotel she was working for. But Rhea and Varun have a past.
Rhea is still not able to get over the pain of having loved Varun a few years back and getting cheated by him. The relationship is portrayed as a slow build up and with a very strong foundation as Rhea befriends not only Varun but also his two childhood buddies, both of whom stand by Rhea when Varun decides to drop his commitment to Rhea (with all the mushy promises and steamy scenes included) and marry someone else where he went to study abroad.
Understandably, Rhea is shattered and detests anything to do with Varun. But she manages to keep a straight face and a professional demeanour even when he comes back into her life a few years later. Rhea appears to have moved on to better things but still unable to reach any success in the love/relationship department. Varun, on his part, seems very persuasive and for reasons of his own, wants Rhea back into his life.
The story has an underlying suspense about the credibility of Varun’s character and the real reason for him to marry another woman when he seemed so committed to Rhea. There is also the small confusion and disbelief when all of Varun’s friends and even his parents, who were equally shocked in his marriage, now supporting him. Rhea manages to maintain a cold, stiff veneer but finds herself falling for Varun all over again, her only problem being his marital status.
The plot is fairly simple, with only the confusion being the true nature of the lead man. The characters are written with a bit of confusion and seem too liberal to suit Indian sensibilities sometimes, (but maybe that is the reviewer’s opinion) the lead woman, though is portrayed extremely well. Her cold demeanour at first, her belief in love, her shock, and her inability to hide her obvious concern for the only man she loved are extremely relatable (even if it makes the character humanly weak). The plot has no holes and the climax is predictable (and therein lies the thrill of the genre).
Read this story if you have a nice, warm summer afternoon with the intention of a reading a short book that provides just the right amount of suspense, drama, romance, steamy scenes and an added dose of ‘it all ends well’ feel.
WHAT I LIKED:
Character of Rhea, The characters of friends.
WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER:
The predictable climax, and the sudden disclosure of the knot of suspense. It felt like a slight letdown after all the anticipation.
VERDICT:
Read this book both for the story and the fun quotient. Jazz Singh never keeps a moment dull in this book!
When I had Jazz’s this book is for reading – I was actually beaming with expectations, because I already have read his ‘Against all odds’ . So expectations were high! Now I know that how this writer can serve a story like a palatable dish, with crispy style of storytelling.. It is absolute fluid reading that will give you absolute delight-no pain, no headache, no boredom, only sheer enjoyment! To be honest-this book didn’t make me feel disappointed. Rhea –the charming young lady met Varun-a tall dark handsome lad in an educational consultancy firm where she was working as a councilor for some extra bucks in a parallel rail with her studies and where he had gone for a Hotel management course in Switzerland. It was not exactly love at first sight for them but something that closely resembles that idiom! She was readily accepted to the circle of friends of Varun and he was readily accepted by her parents. Everything seemed so perfectly matched that their love affair got first paced and soon she started to discover a new feeling of voidness when he was in his classes at Switzerland. But destiny sometimes plays cruel joke-that’s why human is a mere puppet to the wishes of that supreme commander. The love birds got separated and to her all shades of life turned out to be gray! But destiny again completes the circle of life, too and this story is no exception! What fate awaits Rhea and Varun-where the destiny will lead them to? Read to discover this romance novella! At the begging I have praised his style, so I don’t like to make you bore repeating it again. It’s Jazz’s signature all around.
I read this novel few weeks back. I thoroughly enjoyed the twists and turns in the novel. I was trying to second guess why Varun had ditched Rhea. I like the fact that Rhea is an independent woman who holds a good job and has a mind of her own. I started reading it on my mobile and was glued to my mobile so much so that I didn't want to put it down and switch to the tablet. And turned down calls too as I wanted to know what would happen next. What I didn't like was Varun's lack of fidelity. It is not just marriage that requires a faithfulness. But anyway that is my pet peeve. I thoroughly enjoyed the novel. It is a light and amusing read. Definitely recommend.
The story is simple, short and sweet. The author had created very realistic characters and the relationships have been portrayed well. The feelings of the characters have been described beautifully.
I enjoyed the book and am looking forward to another book by the same author. More on http://wp.me/p3cEWT-lz
Every time something unbelievable happened I had to reduce the star rating. Without giving a spoiler, I'll just say there is an elephant in the room and the characters ignore this elephant. So much it becomes ridiculous. Would say more but then I would need to add SPOILER ALERT.
It was really an amazing book. All the emotions of Rhea was really displayed well. Even I started crying for what happened with her Varun. Really enjoyed reading dis book & would like 2 really read more book like dis by Jazz.
Only a Dream by Jazz Singh is a sweet romantic novella.
This is another jewel from the Jazz- Indireads duo. The striking feature of this novella is a beautiful book cover. It is bright, attractive and carrying a charming magnetism that compels you to read the story every time it passes in front of your eyes. This is one of my favourites from the lot.
The story is as mesmerizing as the book cover itself. Rhea meets Varun after they had separated a couple of years back. Read the story to be a companion of Rhea as her life takes a U-turn, as she bumps into Varun, one fine day. Will she be made an emotional fool or is Varun there as a mere coincidence or is it a planned strategy? The worst fear - Is it a dream in itself or a reality?
Workplace romance is a tricky genre and needs to be balanced to provide it an influential aura. Indireads and Jazz are the true warriors who aim their targets at bull-eyes. They never disappoint their readers and this story feels like a dreamy hand-in-hand walk with your beloved. It has softness of first love and spice of separation, a dressing of reunion and tinge of some private memorable moments.
Read it to enjoy and cherish your first love and love that knocked your doors twice in your lifestime. Read to explore how Rhea reacts when she encounters him again. Will she be blessed with love of her life or will she be forced to forget him as a dream? Rhea and Varun await you…
I am going to split this book into two parts. Read the first part for the sweet, toe-curling romance of Rhea and Varun and the second part for the story of talk-to-my-hand-attitude of our very cool heroine,Rhea. Somewhere, between the book you will find yourself standing by Rhea! This is the sign of a good book. Here, the reader gets emotionally affected by what is happening to the characters. 'Only A Dream' is a very interesting romance.
