Felt like I went back to my pre-teen years of reading wattpad romances, but this time in Assamese. This was the first Assamese book I've read in years so the fact that it was a pretty easy read was helpful. It's a good book for people who are getting back to reading Assamese after a long time.

The 3 stars are only for the moments where the author managed to make me blush. Other than that, it's a very mediocre story, though cute at times. I do have a lot of things to say about the characters.

The female lead Astha, a sweet, innocent girl, who knows nothing about the world and grew up so sheltered that she cannot open her mouth even when a literal stranger was yelling at her for no reason. Plus, she's such a "little baby" who still drinks Horlicks, calls God with baby like names, and doesn't understand anything about the real world. The character was portrayed in such a way that she really was innocent and childish, otherwise she definitely would've been labelled as a pick-me girl. Time and again she keeps repeating that she's different, she doesn't understand the real world, she's so scared yada yada. She is so dumb it is actually infuriating. If she's literally so childish then how did her parents convince themselves to let her live alone in the hostels?
Plus, sister takes abuse like it is candy. So many times the male character forcefully holds her hand and she thinks it's love💀.
Also, if I remember correctly, a senior girl slapped her once, right in front of him. What happened after? Literally any girl I know would have complained to the management or would have gone back with her own friends to beat that person up lol.

Next is our male lead, our angry young man, "misunderstood by the world", "has a dark past", Mr. Arnab. The first annoying thing about him is technically the author's fault. It was obvious that the author is not good at English, but that's no big deal (her Assamese was wonderful), she could've just let her editor help her with that. He studied in an international school so he ends up switching to english anytime he's serious about something, it's a language that comes naturally to him. Being a student from a convent school, I relate to that but bro's English is horrible💀 Firstly, he keeps saying "damn it" without any reason, in any sentence, where it does not even make sense.
"Why damn it? "
"Answer me damn it"
"Are you pretending like you care, damn it?"
"I won't let it happen damn it"
It's like he was using "damn it" as a name for the person he's addressing. No kid from an English medium school talks like that.
The English annoyed me throughout the entire book, I just imagined alternate dialogues with correct english in my head to save his character.
If I were a character in that book, I would have roasted the hell out of him just because of his english. Bad english is not a problem, but bad english with cheap attitude is.

I won't even talk about the grammatical errors and the WhatsApp level (writing why as y, you as u) writing in the dialogues.

Putting his english aside, bro has some serious anger issues to deal with. She's literally scared of him, I don't think your lover is supposed to be scared of you or feel unsafe when you're angry. He was such a red flag and even dark romance male leads aren't that cringe. Bro pretends to ask for consent and then gets mad when she denies him a kiss. That's not how consent works, brother. He has zero respect for the female lead and it is honestly such a headache to read.

The only times I liked his character were those cutesy scenes, mostly the phone conversations. Even then I had to filter out the bad english in my head.

Did I mention that he was physically abusive too? Literally grabbed her or her hand at random times and not letting go when she asked to. That's concerning. Definitely sasta Kabir Singh.

The only character I liked was his roommate. He was the only non-pretentious and sane person in the book.

I don't think anybody who's an avid reader who has read good books would enjoy this. This book is only proper for beginners who want to start reading in Assamese.

May be due to the hype it created last year, my expectation were too high. And this book falls way too short of that.
Story wise, it's like a typical bollywood masala movie.
Writing wise the Author scores some point, this being the first published book.

The thing I admire most about the book is the trend it created in social media. So many books has came up this year, from many rather unknown authors, getting inspired from various social media groups. That's a great sign for the readers and society in general. Thanks for that.
