Trusting Cassidy

Rate this book
In this final installment of New York Times bestselling author Susan Stoker’s Silverstone series, a battle-scarred assassin must rescue an old flame from ruthless drug lords.

What was supposed to be a short trip to Jamaica becomes a years-long nightmare as Cassidy Hewitt and her son fall into the grip of an infamous drug kingpin. Desperate for rescue, Cassidy risks everything to send secret letters to the FBI, hoping someone, anyone, will answer her call.

When secret operative Leo “Gramps” Zanardi sees Cassidy’s letters, he knows this isn’t just another covert mission. The two had electric chemistry back in high school, and Leo finds himself eager for a reunion—even if the circumstances aren’t exactly ideal.

After arriving back in Indiana, Leo and Cassidy think they’re free to start a new life together. But the kingpin’s goons won’t let go of Cassidy so easily: they follow her from Jamaica, leaving carnage in their wake. Before the pair can fully embrace the love they’ve been missing all these years, they’ll need the entire Silverstone team’s help to be victorious in the showdown of their lives.

Gramps aka Leo is what really made this last book in the series for me. He's the oldest of the group, which explains his nickname, and also the last one to find his happily ever after. He's the kind of hero I adore because he's very protective and really treated, not only Cassidy great but her son Mario, as well. Mario had not been treated very well my most males in his life which made Gramps care of him even sweeter. You could just see that he would do anything for these two. The only negative I have is that the book dragged a bit in the middle. However, I loved the we got an extended epilogue for al the couples and their kids. This has been a great series to read and I do highly recommend it.

This is a well-written, entertaining, steamy, fast paced, romantic suspense novel, which contains murder, kidnapping, and drug dealing. It has likable, mature characters, a heartwarming second chance romance, a sweet boy, the strong bonds of friendship, and a happily ever after ending. This novel can be easily read and enjoyed as a stand alone, but is even better when read in order, as there are references to characters and events from the other entries in this outstanding series. Ms. Stoker's loyal readers will appreciate the nod to her next series, and the extended epilogue.
NetGalley and Montlake kindly provided me with an ARC of this novel, and this is my honest opinion.

ARC received for review

Last book in the Silverstone series, and my least favorite of them.

Cassidy is the one who got away when their were teenagers. Leo/Gramps never forgot about her, and now she's in danger and needs rescued. He along with the rest of the gang get her out and bring her back home. Loved seeing all the previous couples. The epilogue was my favorite part looking at each couple going 5, 10 , 20 years in the future.

I hated everything about this book. Redundant and ridiculous. Too perfect hero, to the ridiculous heroine. The constant chit chat about the son possibly being gay repeated over and over like it is the end of the world. Just gross.

The heroine continually making stupid decisions and everyone coddling her for her stupid decisions. I ended on chapter 17 after the heroine decided to do something else stupid knowing that all she had to do was go in the safe room. Knowing she made the decision to save her son (whom her stupid decisions put in grave danger)while putting the unborn one in a dangerous situation. No.

Done.

They saved the best for last. Gramps “Leo” Zanardi gets his turn at love.

“Yup. I’m moody. Grumpy. I can’t ever remember birthdays or anniversaries . . . the important dates that women think I should. I’ve been called self-centered and selfish more than once, and they aren’t wrong.

Cassidy has gotten herself and her son into big trouble. A drug lord is holding them in Jamaica and won’t let them leave.
The Silverstone Team is one big family and I loved seeing all the characters again.
Action packed with a beautiful love story years in the making.

“Come on, mama bear. Let’s feed you and baby bear. You’ll both do great next week.”

A great ending to another wonderful series.

The wait is over! Readers waiting to binge-read Susan Stoker's Silverstone series have the green light to fall in love with all four heroes. TRUSTING CASSIDY, the final book in this military romance series, forces Leo "Gramps" Zanardi to rescue his old flame Cassidy Hewitt and her son from the clutches of ruthless drug lords.
Susan Stoker always delivers a satisfying face-paced read with fierce heroes and strong women, and this new release knocks it out of the park.

I’ve really enjoyed this series and Susan Stoker’s fast paced, super swoony take on romantic suspense and her crew of growly, protective, alpha men with a soft streak- the men of Silverstone Towing.

This final book in the series focuses on “Gramps” (aka Leo)- the oldest member of the team and the proverbial last man standing when it comes to the romance department. Through a series of serendipitous events (you will have to suspend disbelief a bit on it), he discovers his high school crush Cassidy is an unwilling captive in a drug lord’s mansion in Jamaica with her son Maria, and of course, the whole crew has to go and rescue her. Of course, he does- amidst a whole bunch of entertaining, page turning, danger, and they make their way back home to reconnect since turns out Cassidy is the one that got away, the one Gramps has never been able to let go of. Of course, danger follows, and Gramps and Cass have more than their buried feelings to contend with.

I really loved reading the heroine in distress trope with an older hero and heroine- and as always, we have a strong heroine (no useless damsels here) and a relatively low angst relationship with a couple that fall pretty naturally into each other- the drama is external, and I like that I can rely on these books for uncomplicated, lower drama relationship dynamics. The pace lagged for me a bit in the middle, and didn’t quite grab me as much as some of the others, though I still enjoyed this couple. I also really loved Cassidy’s son and that he has a meaty story to him.

The epilogue was an unexpected treat, and I loved getting snippets from all of the couples in the book and in the future in the epilogue to give us lots of great closure. I have really enjoyed this series!

A Silverstone Legacy🤩

Trusting Cassidy is the final book in the Silverstone series and boy what a way to finish the series - which in my mind is a legacy all to itself❣️

Cassidy and her son Mario are living in Jamaica but when she realises that she’s under the thumb of a drug dealer and essentially being held prisoner, Cassidy doesn’t know what to do. Over time things start to change and she realises she has to do something….so she secretly sends letters to the FBI in the US asking for help. When Leo aka Gramps shows up, Cassidy isn’t sure he’s the man she remembers and if he’s there to help her🤷‍♀️

A wonderful story that I absolutely loved and did not want to put down😍 I am sad to see the end of this series as I really loved all the characters but I’m hoping that some of the SAR characters we meet briefly in this book will form part of a new series….perhaps?

This final installment of Silverstone was at first a solid 4 rating but the more I read, the most I understood Cassidy. I like how Susan gave her the cojones to stand up for those she loved even though she was scared out of her wits. At first I thought she was okay, not a great heroine, until she made the decision that changed the dynamic of the story.

I call dibs on Gramps. He is a little older (as is Cassidy) which I love and he is super-alpha-uber-yummy. Who would not want a man who is all in (okay a lot of them are). He was extra special. A real hero.

I have to tell you, it might have been when I read the story, or it might have been just me, but this story has me boo-hooing throughout the entire story. At first just a little then all out cryfest. Sign of a good book? You bet.

A little hint of the next series? I think maybe.

Leo and Cassidy deserve all the happiness!

Realizing that her job as a teacher in Jamaica has turned into a dangerous form of captivity, Cassidy smuggles out letters to the FBI asking for help to escape. That agency turns to Leo and his Silverstone team to investigate and follow up. Leo remembers Cassidy from high school as the one that got away, so he's more than willing to do whatever it takes to rescue her and her young son.

I loved Leo's character, his quiet strength, his plain-spoken declaration of his intentions to Cassidy, and his unwavering devotion to both her and her son. Cassidy is a force unto herself, a woman who can take care of herself but is smart enough to know when she's outmatched. Their romance was refreshingly sweet and uncomplicated; their HEA was hard-won and heartwarming.

Danger follows them back to the States, of course, giving us all the nail-biting suspense and explosive action we know to expect from this author. As the last book in the Silverstone series, we're also treated to an amazingly detailed extended epilogue for all four couples. If you've read any of the books in this series, you can't miss this one. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

I've enjoyed all the various series (and there's quite a few!) that Ms. Stoker has written and I really connected with the men of Silverstone Towing and their very brave and courageous women, most especially Taylor. I was looking forward to reading Gramps/Leo's story based on the little snippets we got in the previous 3 books but unfortunately (and I hate to say that) it kind of fell flat for me. I didn't feel the connection between Leo and Cassidy and I honestly felt like the story dragged on too long. The best part and the part I enjoyed the most was the epilogue -- reading about all the couples and what had transpired after they went forward with their lives. That was a nice way to wrap up this series and give it a nice closure. I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC for NetGalley.

I started this series last year and knew I was going to finish out with this book. I was hanging with this one until chapter 17. I feel like the last two books I've read have had females that make STUPID decisions. I mean, all Cassidy had to do was go into the safe room and everything would have been fine.

Maybe I'm just being petty, but I absolutely blame Cassidy for Smoke getting shot. It he would have died (thankfully he lived) I would have totally blamed her. It was COMPLETELY her fault. And everyone just made excuses for her and didn't hold her accountable for her actions.

The extended epilogue was a nice surprise, I enjoyed seeing everyone's lives play out. I am surprised that Smoke and Molly only had one child since in their book, Smoke talked about wanting to fill up his house. I wish Susan Stoker would have explained why that was (I understand difficult pregnancies, hard child labor, changed minds, etc. it was just left too open).

Rant aside, I enjoyed the series. I did enjoy this book, I just think people need to be smarter. I gave it two stars because everything fell apart after chapter 17. If you're going to write a character that makes a colossal mistake, have her face some consequences.

Trusting Cassidy is the fourth book and conclusion in the Silverstone series. I enjoyed the series as it has some unique elements mixed in with what I expect from a book from this author. Gramps and Cassidy have known each other for a long time, and he will tell you she is the one who got away.

Cassidy’s strength to get her and her son out of a bad situation in Jamaica, and when Gramps and the Silverstone crew go in and get them back on US soil, the trouble follows. You will need to read the book from here to find out how they get out of this mess.

The best part of the book is the epilogue. It is nice to see where the Silverstone crew is in the future.

Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake for the advanced copy: this is my voluntary review.

Generally enjoy Susan Stoker’s books. The last two I feel she is trying so hard to be politically correct and woke that they are just cringe worthy. The stories seem like she uses so many stereotypical examples of racism/homophobia etc and pounds them into the story over and over—and it feels like she’s preaching at us. If the next book is like this I’m done with her as an author.

Trusting Cassidy: Silverstone Book 4 is by Susan Stoker. Susan Stoker is one of my favorite authors and she does not fail with this book. It has been a while since I read the third book in this series; but it was easy to pick up where she left off. It was a little somber reading this book as it is the final installment of the Silverstone team’s stories. That made it a little sad to read this book. However, the book was compelling and you simply had to read it and keep reading it.
Cassidy Hewitt and her son headed for Jamica for a short vacation. However, it turned into a very lengthy stay when they were taken by a kingpin of the drug cartels. For years, Cassidy tried every way possible to get information to someone to come help them. She had no luck with the FBI or anyone else. Then, Leo “Gramps” Zanardi of the Silverstone group came across her letters. He definitely had an interest in helping Cassidy and her son get free. He had known Cassidy when they were in high school and thought there had been a spark between them. However, at the time, they didn’t explore that spark. Now, besides doing the humanitarian thing and helping her, Gramps had another reason to help her. He wanted to see if that spark was still there.
Getting them out of the arms of the drug cartel and out of Jamica wasn’t easy; but they finally prevailed and brought them to Indiana. Here, Gramps had time to see if the spark was there. However, the drug cartel didn’t give up and followed them to Indiana. Gramps and the entire Silverstone team had to come together to keep her out of the hands of the cartel. Would they be successful or would Gramps once more lose the girl?

M/F Romance
Triggers: Hidden because they may contain spoilers.

Cassidy is trying to live her life while living in a prison of fear. She loves her son, Mario, and knows that if they can't escape soon, they never will. She cautiously creates a plan and hopes beyond all hope that someone will come to help them.

Gramps, AKA Leo, is the last man standing amongst his group of friends. When they receive a letter from the FBI and he knows the author, there is nothing that's going to stop him from going to her. Every job is personal, but this one is extra special.

As we watch the Silverstone Towing Company work their magic, Cassidy learns to trust and love and her son learns what true acceptance looks like.

I won't get into too much of the story, because it will give away all of the fun parts, but know that these men have a way of worming their way into your heart and you won't be disappointed. I suggest that you read all of the Silverstone Towing books in order, as you'll get the most out of them that way.

I can't wait for the next series!

Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆
This is the fourth book in the series – and I would definitely recommend you read them all, as they are really good, and whilst each one was a new romance, the men of Silverstone Towing and their missions make for excellent reading.

Gramps, aka Leo, is the last man standing in the quartet. He can see that his friends are settling into married life, but he doesn't really think that he has that desire within him. Then a call from their handler in the FBI brings them a potential mission and a very familiar name is the person in need. I really liked the set up here – each story has been so individual, even if the woman in question has needed their help. Cassidy is stuck in Jamaica, as the childminder for a drug lord, her son also held on virtual house arrest.

The plan to free them is hatched and we get to see how the men work together to do good. Both Leo and Cassidy recognise the chemistry between them, that was there when they were at high school decades ago. However, Cassidy, in particular, is worried that it is circumstances that have made her feel that way, and you can hardly argue that men have been good to her in the past. It is delightful watching them find themselves as a potential couple.

I will not reveal more of the drama, but rest assured that we get some real insight into how the four men and their families move forward with their lives – compelling reading. Thank you, Susan Stoker.

***5 Stars***

This was a fun, quick read and a great way to end this series of alpha men and the women who “tame” them.

I adored Gramps and Cassidy. Gramps is all kinds of protective alpha male, but with a totally marshmallowy center when needed. Cassidy is a force. She finds herself in a horrible situation, but holds it together for her son and does everything to keep him as safe and happy as possible. Gramps and Cassidy’s journey to their HEA was a fun one to experience. I loved that they were already friends, maybe not close anymore, but there was a connection and a level of trust they had with each other that made it easy to see that there could be more between them. While the attraction was undeniable, I liked how everything progressed between them and how Mario, Cassidy’s son, was always a huge part of their decisions and I just like how everything worked out for them in the end.

I have to admit that the ‘suspense’ part of the story didn’t interest me all that much, outside of the situation bringing Gramps and Cassidy together, because I just liked catching up with the Silverstone crew and watching as Gramps, Cassidy and Leo became a family, but it definitely kept things interesting. As for the Silverstone crew, I love how they are truly a family and everyone just gets along. And that epilogue definitely brought out a few sniffles as these characters and their friends and family got the farewell they deserved.

My guilty pleasures…

My little guilty pleasure reads. The end to this series was a solid read.

📕 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Trusting Cassidy by Susan Stoker

📙 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀: Silverstone character series, book 4.

📗 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘀: Audio on Kindle. 🆓 on KU to read and listen.

📘 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗿𝗲: Military Romance

📔 𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝘀: Second chance, romantic suspense, single parent.

📖 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀: Cassidy and her son move to Jamaica to escape a volatile relationship, only to be sucked into the drug world. Leo is part of an elite team on the rescue mission to save her.

🌟 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: Susan Stoker’s books are like my Star Magazine reads in the grocery check out line. They’re not the kind of books you brag about reading - they’re sometimes cringy - but you devour them all the same.

This one, the final book in the Silverstone series, was a great ending to the story of four Marines turned assassins who use a towing company as cover. Gramps was alpha and hot to read. Cassidy was a glorious idiot, but endearing all the same. A good ending!

𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: 3.5/5 ⭐⭐⭐

Great series wrap-up!
Leo “Gramps” Zanardi is the oldest member of the Silverstone team and the last to find a love of his own. In his mid-40’s he sees his teammates settling down with new families and wonders if he will ever find “the one”.
Incredibly, Leo’s FBI contact brings his attention to desperate letters written from Jamaica by his long-ago high school crush, Cassidy Hewitt. She is being held prisoner by a drug kingpin in his house and it’s Silverstone to the rescue!
This was the perfect finale of the series; I loved the special relationship that Leo fostered with Cassidy’s 10-year-old son. It made my heart swell ten sizes. I loved this series!

Cassidy’s trip to Jamaica turned out to be anything but the vacation that she thought it would be. She and her son find themselves under the control of a very dangerous man and she knows that she needs to get out before it is too late. When she started sending letters to the FBI pleading for help she didn’t expect that it would bring a man from her past back into her life.

Leo has watched the other team members of Silverstone find the woman they want to spend their life with, but he has been unable to forget a woman from his past. When the FBI forwards a letter that they receive from her outlining her situation there is nothing he won’t do to rescue her and son, but they are about to find out that the danger won’t end even after the rescue.

Intrigue, romance and great characters as not only do we get to see Cassidy and Leo’s relationship unfold but catch up and see a glimpse of what the future holds for the other characters that we know and love as well.

Gramps knew this mission would be personal. She. Cassidy...abd her son Mario were what his team needed to save. He knew her from high school, but now...now he had to save her.

I so love everything Susan Stoker writes. The men of Silverstone are so Alpha, protective, and loyal. And now, Gramps, is the last of them to fall hard.

If you love a second chance of love...well read this. Trusting Cassidy is full of love, lust, loyalty, and just a great story. Fyi, there is drama, danger, and a cartel. Enjoy this book. Also, you might want to read the other Silverstone books.

Last book , last story in the series.
I was looking forward to Leo ( Gramps ) and Cassidy story.
Love how the couple eventually ended up together.
Leo has loved Cassidy since a young age but something stopped him to pursue her. This story is about second chance Romance. It has action , mystery .
Leo leaves and joins the service , leaving Cassidy behind. He gets a shock when he comes back and not only is Cassidy married but she’s a mother also.

Grab it and see how they end up together

I enjoyed this one for the most part. It did suffer the same fate as some of Stoker's other books-2nd hand embarrassment with the insta-love oversharing. But, that aside, I enjoyed this second chance romance. Single mom needs saving and the team shows up. Danger follows them home. Plenty of action and sweet moments between Gramps and Mario (the son). Overall, a 3.5 star read! Great epilogue!

The last in the Silverstone series, Trusting Cassidy ends the series on a bang! I was looking forward to Leo “Gramps” Zanardi's story from the very first book in the series. He's a bit older than the other Silverstone crew and a bit of a mystery. His story unfolded in Trusting Cassidy and it was worth the wait!

Trusting Cassidy has many of the characteristics of Stoker's books - swoon-worthy, alpha, but soft hearted protector, strong (no damsel in a distress here) heroine, fast-passed suspense and action, and great connections between the protector and the heroine. I especially liked wrote Cassidy and her son Mario. Cassidy has had many blows in life - verbally abusive husband and then a drug-lord employer turned kidnapper/prison warden. With many of Stoker's books (and romance-suspense books in general) you do have to suspend a little reality. Gramps happens to find out about Cassidy and Mario's imprisonment and makes it his duty to free them.

Twists and turns later, Trusting Cassidy ends the series on a great note with an update on each previous character at the end.

Ehhh, really 2.5 stars for me, but I’ll go ahead and bump it up to 3 since it’s Susan Stoker’s, and being the last of the series it has an epic epilogue. Unfortunately this one was just too kid-centric for my tastes.

Oh, this book was so bittersweet. It’s the end of a series I’ve adored, but also brings us a glimpse of the men who will grace another series. As usual, this author tackles some of the grittier topics in such a way that I felt every emotion, every bit of anger and fear and worry and love, and adored every second. As if her handling of Leo, Cassidy, and Mario wasn’t enough, that epilogue will leave you teary and with a bit of pain in your chest. In the best way though. Trust me.

Leo and Cassidy were so good together, even with the danger swirling around them so much of the time. And Leo’s relationship with Mario was exactly what both of them needed. The best part is that no one person did all of the saving all of the time. They each had their moments, and that includes the other men and women of Silverstone. The camaraderie and clear love for this band of friends-turned-family made for such a good ride from start to finish. And the fact that none of these women were doormats, ESPECIALLY Cassidy, made it even better. As much as I’ve loved other books by this author, this may be my favorite series so far. And Leo may have one of the biggest hearts of any of her leading men. Any guy who can focus on the future instead of dwelling on time lost, who can go at the pace the people he loves need, and who can give so much of his heart without expecting anything in return will always be a winning character for me!

The heroine in this book was just really really stupid. I know most of this type of genre the heroine does really stupid things to get themselves in trouble but this whole book just had me shaking my head. I usually really love this author but this book not so much.
