Will The Book of Love find a way to bring these two souls together?
Honey Farthingale has a devastating secret that could destroy her chance of ever finding love. For this reason, she has sworn off marriage. But if she is to live out the rest of her days as a spinster, what harm can there be in stealing a kiss from the season's most sought after bachelor, the handsome as sin Earl of Wycke? Yet, she dares not get too close to him, for he has the power to steal her heart and make her wish for things that can never be.
Thomas Halford, Earl of Wycke, is determined to discover why Honey Farthingale keeps running away from him, when every other debutante is throwing themselves at his feet. She claims she will never marry, but when she asks him for a kiss, he is more than willing to oblige. However, he wants more from this beautiful girl who has stolen his heart. Despite his family troubles and Honey's reluctance, can this jaded earl find love?
Meara Platt is happily married to her Russell Crowe look-alike husband, and they have two terrific children. She lives in one of the many great towns on Long Island, New York, and loves it, except for the traffic. She has traveled extensively, occasionally lectures and finds time to write. Her favorite place in all the world is England’s Lake District, which may not come as a surprise since many of her stories are set in that idyllic landscape, including her Romance Writers of America Golden Heart award winning story.
Beautiful, thoughtful, emotional. Three words that spring to mind when I think of this book.
There are issues that we all may have to deal with in here, that our Lord and Lady also have to cope with. The main being Dementia, in our time we specialists who we can turn to. In theirs they were virtually on their own and it was looked down on , a madness in the family, not understanding it they didn’t cope very well.
Meara deals beautifully with this issue as does our beautiful lady Honey Farthingale, a lady with such love and compassion especially for Earl Tom and his mother that she takes it all in her stride, and instantly finds solutions to any problems.
Tom is dealing with so much . Never knowing if he’s going to be playing himself or his father, whenever he comes across his mother. Honey helps him deal and cope with her, and its at this time they cement their love in place. They were always meant for each other , such chemistry.
Unfortunately not everyone is happy, and they have another force at work to keep them apart.
Loved the book , characters, story plot, in fact everything about it was excellent. This really was an enjoyable book to read even with the elements that you’d think would make it a sad story . It wasn’t , it was inspiring to be honest, the love and affection that poured out of the pages was wonderful. Congratulations Meara , I loved how you wrote this.
I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review

My review :
Will her secret and shame be the end of their burgeoning romance ...
I’m kind of a Dory at time, but after a few pages, I remembered what secret laid between Honey and Society’s conventions as it was revealed in the previous book. Honey is like all the Farthingales, a sweet and caring miss. That she decided to never marry because of the circumstances of her birth is a bit stretching things. She would not be the first nor the last. Yet it was well known during these times that most things were decided upon someone’s birth. And as there were the many ranks in society, there were also the context of everyone’s origin. So even if I thought she kept her secret for herself a bit too long, I understood it could be a life’s altering event if it was acknowledged. Thomas for a Wicked Wycke, as he is known, is more honorable than it was expected. Sure, he was stalking the one woman who does not fawn at his mere presence. But like all the men when they encounter a Farthingale miss, he was instantly caught up, and unable to stop thinking about her. Thus their courtship is an easy one, they do not really fight their attraction, only stands between them Honey’s secret. And Thomas being a knight in shining (or not) armor, it will not dim his interest in her.
A special note about Thomas’ mother, her affliction, slowly drifting toward dementia, was even more a cruel turn of fate at this time, as it was ill-seen, misunderstood and not treated as an aging disease.
It is always a pleasure to see again all those Farthingales and their spouses and the chaotic world they all live in. Why I am forever eager to put my hands on every Farthingales and their associates’ stories. 4.5 stars for this sweet tale of acceptance and persistence.
I was granted an advance copy by the publisher Dragonblade, here is my true and unbiased opinion.
There is also the suspense of wondering if Honey’s secret will be revealed to London society to keep readers turning the page. For a delightful and entertaining historical romance, "The Kiss of Love" hits the target!
Honey Farthingale kind, beautiful & compassionate but she has a secret that, if found out, could ruin her & damage the family's reputation too. Even though, she is a romantic, she has decided to become a spinster for the rest of her days & therefore; her secret will stay safe as she won't be forced to tell a future husband her secret. Since she will be a spinster, Honey wants to experience a kiss but not just any kiss, a kiss from man that had attracted her, the handsome Thomas Halford, Earl of Wycke - the most sought after bachelor in society.
Thomas Halford, Earl of Wycke or Wicked Wycke as nicknamed by society & has earned being called a scoundrel and rakehell but he is also powerful, handsome, a loyal friend & a loving son & brother. He has debutantes falling all over him and has tired of it and the one lady he wants keeps avoiding him at all costs. He must discover why Honey Farthingale is hiding from him and then she asks him to kiss her. He is happy to grant her request but the more time they are together the more he wants from her and she is changing her mind about the spinster business. I loved both Tom & Honey & the journey to their HEA wasn't easy but I loved it. I also loved how characters from other books featured.
The road to happiness was not an easy one - her secret kept them apart & she did not tell him until close to the end, Tom's Mother was experiencing Dementia & there were some very emotional scenes. We met some new characters, we re-visited some from previous books and most importantly, JASPER (Ewan's looby Old English Sheepdog from My Fair Lily, Book 1 in The Farthingale Series)!!
I highly recommend this book and the entire series - Meara Platt knows how to create hunky heroes, lovable ladies and magical stories to bring them to life!
I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher via NetGalley. This in no way impacted on my view.
The Kiss of Love is the sixth book in The Book of Love series, this time following the romance of Honey Farthingale and Thomas Halford, Earl of Wycke. Honey has a secret, and she knows that as soon as it is revealed, her budding romance with Thomas will be stopped. However, she still finds herself going to his house party, on his insistence, and he won't accept that they can't be together. Thomas has had feelings for Honey from the start of the book, and knows that once she reveals her secret, everything will be okay, but he's coping with his mother's debilitating illness, and hosting guests, both welcome and unwelcome. By reading the 'Book of Love' together, Honey and Thomas start to understand each other just that little bit better, and soon it seems like their happy ever after might just be a possibility.
I hadn't heard of this series before this book became available on NG, nor have I read the other books in it, but I found myself wanting more with this book. I don't know what it was, but I just didn't enjoy it as much as I could've done. When it starts, it's in the middle of a scene, and we have missed a lot of the past between Honey and Thomas, with none of it really being explained at all. Honey and Thomas are alright characters, and their romance is good, but, personally, I found the whole 'Book of Love' plot line a bit of a bore. Also boring, was the whole mean-girl attitude of Lady Sarah, who fully deserved a slap, and honestly, was a horrific person. Her getting her comeuppance was one of the best parts of the book. All in all, an adequate book, but I won't be rushing to read any more from this author.
This book did have charm and a certain sweetness about it. Honey Farthingale and Thomas Halford, the Earl of Wycke, are two nice, likable, genuinely good characters. Their relationship is basically love at first sight, and may be one of the quickest insta-love romances I've ever read. There's a heartwarming subplot about the Earl's mother suffering from dementia, which was handled by the author with great care and grace. There were large scenes involving many characters, these were fun and well done and definitely makes me want to check out the author's other books.
Unfortunately, at times, practically perfect and characters aren't always interesting, and I felt that the H/h lacked some depth. Honey and Thomas spoke a lot, and talked about their feelings, but the lengthy conversations often felt a bit forced. There wasn't much conflict in this story.
The "villains"weren't really much more than immature "mean girls," and Honey handled them well. I like the set down Thomas gave the Duke about his daughter's bad behavior, but we never heard anything from the Duke. No reply, nothing. This is just one example where the tension in the book could have built a bit.
The "secret" that Honey was keeping really wasn't that big of a deal, even for the time period (considering she wasn't part of the peerage or the ton).
If you're looking for a nice, sweet, insta-love, easy, no angst read, then this is the book you need. And there's nothing wrong with any of those things. We all need a little love and goodness in our lives.
I received this book from NetGalley, the opinion is all my own.
What can I say but that I am old at heart. These new "period" romances are devoid of the period, which diminishes any pleasure I derive from the reading in it. The behaviors are far fetched, and not in keeping with the times. He wouldn't have called her by her first name, wouldn't have secretly met with a young woman in her room repeatedly unless he was an idiot or a dastardly cur. Lady Sarah's behavior and conversation was beyond the point of being forward and she would have been given the cut direct. Being a Duke's daughter would not have saved her. The references to economic theories and evolution were unlikely to be held in great stock by anyone less than a scholar or an otherwise extremely learned individual, which we have no reason to believe either the hero or heroine were. The plot was sweet but pretty unbelievable. Sarah's revenge plot was obvious to the reader from the moment the "secret" was revealed as it should have been to the hero and heroine. I found myself puzzled that at no time did the earl consider calling a physician for his beloved mother whose capacity was quickly diminishing. The reactions to Honey's secret was so out of touch with the period. All in all these flaws are fatal in this genre assuming a reader cared at all. Many don't, but I do. I require authenticity in my reading. With respect to the writing, it simply lacked depth: characters underwent significant changes with no explanation other than a book. They might as well have resorted to fairy dust as a plot device. It wasn't the book in and of itself, it was the elementary way in which it was used to puppeteer the behaviors of all who encountered it. There was little sophistication in thoughts and contemplation of the characters. They all seemed to be occupied by drivel. Then there was the needless introduction of many characters apparently for the purposes of connecting the other novels in the series. The only reason I gave this 3 stars was because i thought the hero and heroine were sweet characters. But I'm not compelled to read another in this series.
Honey Farthingale has a devastating secret that could destroy her chance of ever finding love. For this reason, she has sworn off marriage. She claims she will never marry, but when she asks him for a kiss, he is more than willing to oblige. However, he wants more from this beautiful girl who has stolen his heart. The sixth book in this lovely series, it could be read on its own but if like me you love series I'd recommend reading from the beginning. I loved both Tom & Honey & the journey to their HEA wasn't easy but I loved it. I also loved how characters from other books featured. A lovely heart warming romance My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
The Kiss of Love by Meara Platt is book 6 in The Kiss of Love Series. This is the story of Thomas Halford, Earl of Wycke and Honey Farthingale. I haven't yet read the previous books, so for me this was a standalone book. Thomas's mother has health issue that has created issues within him and his family. Wishing to give his mother some enjoyment he host a house party. This leads him to get closer to Honey who is the only debutante that runs from him. Thomas is highly taken with Honey and he just becomes more smitten with her each day. Honey has learned a devastating secret that makes her settle into becoming a spinster along with settling down to help with her family. But it doesn't stop her from attending one last house party and a chance to enjoy Thomas before taking off to her spinster life. I really enjoyed this book and the handling of each of their secrets.
Thomas Halford, Earl of Wycke, is not ready to settle down. He enjoys his bachelor life, that is, until he invites Honey Farthingale to his house party. He's intrigued by the sweet young woman, but she tries to avoid him and vows she'll never marry. The more she resists Tom, the more he wants to get to know her and find out her 'terrible' secret.
Not having read any of the other stories in this series, I was a little lost with all the characters that were introduced in the beginning. I'm also not a fan of the 'insta-love' aspect of stories and wasn't impressed when after only 2 days at the house party, Tom is willing to give up his bachelor life to marry her. Honey's terrible secret did not end up being all that important in the end even when the mean girl Lady Sarah announces it to everyone at a ball. Beside this one thing, there wasn't much conflict in the book at all.
I voluntarily read this advanced reader copy and all opinions are my own.
The Kiss of Love by Meara Platt is another in the Book of Love series. I love, love, love this series. The book always plays a role, usually relatively minor, but there it is, none-the-less. Thomas Halford, the Earl of Wycke, also known as Wicked Wycke is mightily taken by this girl, Honeysuckle Farthingale, who is no different from other young women, and yet supremely different. It is now is task to convince her to attend the house party at his country estate. The house party is primarily for his mother, Lady Wycke, who has recently been drawn further and further into her own world of dementia. It is his hope that being in the surroundings she loves will help her re-establish her good health. Honey knows better than to get anywhere near this man. Her secret precludes her from ever marrying and he is a danger to that resolve.
Honey is a kind, gentle, pleasant girl with a positive outlook on most things. Tom is a confirmed bachelor and a rake of the highest order. He has gotten to be an expert at avoiding marriage, woman interested in marriage, and mothers interested in him as a son-in-law. He is smitten and he can't understand it. This has never happened before. But, there is his mother to worry about. Being in the country hasn't helped at all. It seems she is getting worse. Sometimes she knows who he is; sometimes she thinks he is his father. He won't have her ridiculed by unfeeling guests, or see himself ridiculed, for that matter. Honey is so able with his mother, he can barely fathom it. How could he be in love after three days? His sister would never let him live it down. He had made her wait six months. Then there is the matter of Lady Sarah and he little following of "mean girls." They were a thorn in his side. Something must be done. It's a terrific story with good characters. I love this series. I recommend it to lovers of romance.
I received a free ARC of The Kiss of Love from Dragonblade, through Netgalley, in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions and interpretations contained herein are solely my own. #netgalley #dragonblade #thekissoflove
I'm not sure why I haven't read any of the other books in Meara Platt's The Book of Love series before now, I've read most of her other books but these ones somehow passed me by. It doesn't really matter though, although this is book six in the series, it's really a standalone novel and while it does mention characters from previously in the series, it also mentions characters from other series too. Honeysuckle Farthingale has a secret, one which means that she fears that she will never be able to marry. She has fallen in love with the Earl of Wycke and thinks that if she can share just one kiss with him, it will give her memories for the rest of her life. This is quite a cute love story. I wasn't completely convinced about her secret, but as this is what I think I would be more likely to call a 'fantasy regency' rather than one that is historically accurate, then that doesn't matter. In fact, Meara Platt specializes in fantasy regencies and very enjoyable they are too. The really interesting part of this story is that Thomas (the Earl of Wycke) is dealing with the declining health of his mother. I thought that the way that this part of the story was dealt with was very good. The book of love which the series is named after is a book that seems to help each woman who has it find their true love. It's clear that this is a series with more to come as the book is passed on to it's next recipient by the end of the story. Overall this was an enjoyable romance and one that I would recommend. I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
The Kiss of Love is the sixth book in The Book of Love series but can be read as a stand-alone. I haven’t read the entire series, but I always enjoy this author's books. The characters are always so charming, and the Farthingale family is always fun and entertaining! This series is based on a book the cousins are sharing that tells of courtship. They believe that whoever has the book and is reading it will find their true love. This was a fast-paced book to read and full of charm. Honey Farthingale didn’t want to take the Book of Love when her cousins gave it to her. She just learned something about herself and believes it will make her unmarriageable. She is trying to come to terms with it, but Thomas is too tempting for her to deny. Thomas Halford, Earl of Wycke, has admired Honey from the time he saw her across the room at a Society event. He has been watching her all Season but can’t figure out why she affects him so much. His mother’s health is fragile, and he decides to have a house party at his estate to help her. He convinces Honey to come and his admiration grew as he watched her assist his mother. Can he convince her to confide in him her secret as to why she won’t marry? I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I've read all the books in this series and I am glad the author changed it up for this one. If you read them all, it got to be repetitive in going over the Book of Love. The same parts were rehashed in each book. This one only a few mentions of the book and I appreciated that. The stories can be stand alone, but it is like going to a family reunion and meeting up with your beloved family. I enjoyed meeting the character's from the previous books.
I thought the h held onto her secret too long. Why wait to tell the H and have your hearts already engaged? There is lovemaking, outside of marriage, heat level 4 out of 5 and described several times.
There are several villains in this story. Even though you knew what the one villain was going to do. I would like to know how the villain discovered something she announced.
I liked how the story of the H's mom getting dementia was handled. It shows how the illness effects everyone.
We have no cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, romance and spice. The story ends at the 95% mark and the rest is a blurb for the next person to hold the Book of Love. It sounds like another hit. (ljb)
This is the first book I have read by Meara Platt. I LOVED IT!!! The story is filled with love and compassion, lust and heat and of course the nefarious person. Ms. Platt's writing is unique. I found that the book does not contain fluff or fillers to complete the story. It is the main course all the way. I really enjoyed the main characters Honey and Tom. They both were dealing with heavy burdens in their lives. Somehow, they gave each other hope and peace. I like the way Ms. Platt dealt with Tom's mother's declining health it sounds like it could have been Alzheimer's disease. Ms. Platt wrote realistically with feeling, sensitivity and understanding how it affects the patient and the family members. This is a wonderful emotional and at the same time fun to read book. The dynamic relationship between Honey and Tom made me smile. They playfully teased each other which lightened up the story. This is a must read. You will not be disappointed. I highly recommend it.
I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This novel was another enjoyable read in the series, bringing back some of the Farthingales and introducing new characters. Each novel builds into the next lady and gentleman destined for love. Honey has a secret that if exposed would ruin her, so she has decided never to marry. She helps to run the family business of perfumes. Thomas Halford, Earl of Wycke, has wanted Honey since he first laid eyes on her but she was constantly avoiding him unlike the rest of the debutantes trying to ensnare a husband. He has a reputation as a rake, but is a good man. Convincing Honey to attend his house party, they get to know each other better and read The Book of Love to understand what is it they are feeling towards each other. Still, they have to overcome some obstacles to get their happily ever after. I received this novel as an ARC from net galley and the publisher. Thank you! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is the sixth book in the Book of Love series. I have not read Meara Platt and the other books in this series, but now I’d like to! Family members from the other novels are involved, but it did not distract from my enjoyment of this story.
Thomas Halford, Earl of Wycke, doesn’t understand why Honey Farthingale keeps running away from him when every other debutante is falling at his feet. Honey is holding in a family secret that she believes makes her unmarriageable. She tries to hold Tom at arm’s length even though she just wants to draw him closer. During a house party, Honey sees more of Tom’s protective nature as he deals with a mother in deteriorating mental health and Tom falls deeper for loving, compassionate Honey.
This book was exactly what I needed right now! The characters were so warm and likable, and the writing compelling. (4.5 stars)
* I received an ARC and this is my honest review. #TheKissOfLove #NetGalley
Honey Farthingale has convinced herself that she cannot marry, yet when she meets Thomas Halford, the Earl of Wycke, she begins to rethink her life. For Thomas, Honey is like no other woman he has ever met but when she swears that she does not want to marry, he begins to wonder about the secret that lies behind Honey’s decision. Both Honey and Thomas are two likeable characters whose romance, is instantaneous. The secondary characters also add to this sweet romance, as does the health issues of Thomas’ mother. The story draws in several of the characters from previous stories, adding to the enjoyable romance. I must admit that I times, I found the dialogue between Honey and Thomas, a bit gushy, especially from Thomas. An enjoyable romance, which at times, could have been a bit less predictable. I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
What can I say but wow! This series just keeps getting better and better! The Kiss of Love, the sixth installment of Meara Platt’s Book of Love series, is the beautiful story of Honey Farthingale and Tom, the Earl of Wycke. Tom and Honey get to know one another at the house party at Wycke’s country estate, while struggling with personal secrets and demons. The author has written these characters with such depth, they have strength yet are vulnerable. Tom dealing with his mother’s illness, which made me cry, as I know that feeing of hopelessness he had and could relate. Honey, proud and honorable, yet not trusting in her happiness, and the target of the jealous and petty debutants also in attendance at the house party. Will the Book of Love help them find the connections they need to overcome the obstacles and find their happily ever after?
The Farthingales are a quirky, mad bunch but Honey fell short of the mark for me, she was just too nice and a tad ordinary. I know not to expect ‘real history’ and that’s part of the fun of reading this series, interspersed with inappropriate conversations and verbal sparring. The first meeting is always whimsical and a little crazy but Honey and Tom’s was spectacularly ordinary for a Farthingale. There’s all sorts thrown into the mix of Honey and Tom’s story - gossip, spite, early dementia, bed hopping at the country party and it was a bit of a hot potch for me. I know I will have to suspend belief but this couple lacked the magic spark to carry it off. Meera Platt’s writing is true to form; its still a quirky, romance read but not a winner.
Honey is in love with Tom the Earl of Wycke, but she has a secret that was revealed in the last book and she is determined not to marry. Tom convinces her to come to his weekend house party with a number of his friends, debutantes and his mother. They get together and end up anticipating their marital vows. There is plenty of heat in this historical romance. The Book of Love is bringing couples together at a breakneck pace. I think I liked some of the earlier books in the series better. This seemed like it was written to bring out the steamy side of things. The conflict faced from a jealous and vindictive debutante felt minor and didn’t add to the story. In other stories in the series the problems the couples faced seemed to have a bigger bearing on the story. This one may have been fine with just the problem of Tom’s mother’s mental deterioration.
Honey Farthingale has recently learned a devastating family secret that has made her decide she can never marry. Before she hides herself away and concentrates on the family business she will enjoy a weekend party.
Thomas Halford, Earl of Wycke is holding a weekend party at his country estate. He hopes being there will help his mother, and he wants to get to know the one woman who hides from him.
A very emotional historical romance that has fascinating characters. That pesky "Book Of Love" is at it again. Weaving it's magic for those who read it. A vicious woman is intent on mischief and an illness that was not well understood in those days causes heartache.
Each book in the series can easily be read alone, but be warned you will be tempted to buy them all.
Honey Farthingale has sworn off marriage but is very attracted to the Earl of Wycke. When Thomas starts paying attention to Honey she sees no reason why she could Steel a couple of kisses after all it is just a kiss. Thomas Halford has not found a woman that he was interested in. Looking to find someone that is intelligent and interested in more than what to wear to a ball. He finds that in Honey, but she has a secret that she does not trust him enough to tell him. He more Thomas chases the more Honey pulls away. Honey has been fighting her attraction to Thomas and is definitely falling for him. This was such a sweet story. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and the book of love! Definitely recommend reading this book!
Sigh. These stories keep getting better and better if that is possible! A heartwarming, lovely story about Honey Farthingale and Tom Halford, Earl of Wycke. The book of love makes an interesting appearance in this story and ends up being read by Honey and Tom. Tom had held a house party at his country house with the hope it would help his mother, who had been experiencing dementia. Of course it was not called that then but it was evident she was getting forgetful. Honey is such a compassionate, beautiful soul, who helps watch out for his mother and Tom is just drawn to her. She is determined to live her life as a spinster because she knows he secret she holds will make her unmarriageable. But she does want to experience a kiss. Tom cannot figure Honey out. Women love him, mother's stalk him for their daughters and those daughters do everything to get his attention. When Honey asks him for a kiss, he is eager to fullfil her request! Delightfully charming story that I could only sigh several times as I followed their journey to their happy ever after.
Thomas Halford, Earl of Wycke is attracted to Honey Farthingale, but he can’t seem to figure out why she keeps avoiding him. Honey knows with her background and secret she is above the lower class and a class lower London’s society and the Earl Thomas Halford so to avoid heart break she keeps hiding from him. Tom continues to peruse Honey in an effort to see why all the other woman are flocking to him, and she’s not and finds himself even more intrigued by her. As they spend time together he sees her patience and kindness to his mother who has early signs of dementia. Love grows between them and Honey confesses her secret afraid it will ruin her chance of marriage. I have voluntarily read and reviewed this amazing story.
Ecstatic to see the exuberant, smooth talking rogue, Tom, finally fall besottedly under love's spell and their is no one more perfect to beguile in all her irresistable allure and innocent honesty than the lovable Honey Farthingale. The pair are simply magnetic in all their yearning sweetness. A wonderfully joy-filled romantic story packed with sizzling chemistry, wit, charm and a spot of angst and emotional turmoil to hold you addictively captivated. This series is a must read - each addition is just fabulous in it's own deliciously enchanting way especially when the Farthingales are involved as every member just springs to life off the page, melts your heart, holds you astounded and never fails to put a smile on my face!!!
Honey Farthingale has been given “The Book of Love”, hoping it would help her find a true love. But Honey has a secret that most of her family does not know and she feels that she cannot share it with anyone. The Earl of Wycke, has invited her to a weekend party at his estate and offers to take her in his carriage along with his aging Mother. The characters in this book are wonderfully described and brings the book with her to read. As the Earl and Honey become to know one another, they find that they are very well-matched. However, there are spiteful young women that have their eye on the Earl and will do anything to keep him to themselves. I enjoyed reading Book 6 of the series and believe that Meara Platt did a great job in creating a page turning adventure.
