SEAL Team Hawaii #4

Finding Monica

Rate this book
Years of abuse at the hands of her father has taught Monica Collins she can’t trust anyone—especially military men. Since escaping her home, she’s built a successful career as a nanny, showing other kids the love she was denied as a child. But when her employer’s ambassadorial home becomes fair game for intruders during a riot, she’s forced to rely on two SEALs to get her to safety. Basically her worst nightmare come to life.

Stuart “Pid” Hall is used to people being scared, panicked, and confused during a rescue mission, but Monica’s deep animosity and distrust is a surprise…until she shares a bit of her story. He can’t blame her for hating all things military—or for being outraged when his commander demands the SEAL team escort her back to Hawaii. Turns out the ambassador’s home was specifically targeted, and Monica’s the only person who’s faced the intruder and lived.

No one is prepared to learn the man has ties to the Navy. When he decides to use Monica as a pawn for his revenge, she’ll have to overcome years of deep-seated fear…and put her trust in Stuart’s hands if she hopes to see another day.

** Finding Monica is the 4th book in the SEAL Team Hawaii Series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.

He was blown away by how the smile on her face changed her whole countenance.
And for the first time, he realized she had a dimple in one cheek.
He was such a sucker for dimples.

One of my favorite Stoker books! The fact that I read it all in less than 24 hours around sleep and work tells you how engaging it was.

To me, Pid (thank goodness the heroine called him Stuart! "Pid" is a funny, but unfortunate nickname for Stu...) was the least fleshed out of all the men on the Hawaii SEAL team in previous books, so I enjoyed getting to know him better. Still not much internal conflict for him beyond the need to prove to the heroine that not all military men are monsters like her father (Monica certainly had a horrific backstory!). But Monica had so much that needed to be overcome to learn to trust, even more than to fall in love, that it made sense that Stuart be a less angsty/conflicted character. He was so gentle, solid and supportive of her--showing her time and again that there are good guys out there. Although I love a good sex scene, I appreciated that the sex didn't happen until quite late in the story. There was certainly sexual tension, but the emotional component wasn't there for a love scene until then, and then it was a lot of fun. Plus, there was a very exciting climax to the mystery.

I also loved getting to know Baker Rawlins a little better, too. Once a SEAL, always a SEAL. There are hints of his mature romance story coming in the future.

As usual another great read from Mrs. Stoker. with all the teams and all the situations that can happen, these unlucky SEAL's always have a good fight against the newest bad guys. There were enough twists and turns with Monica to kind of know where she was leaning and then when the surprised reactions came along, that was very satisfying. The turning point which I loved the most was at the sleepover with the rest of the women.

Knowing the last books are about Carly, Ashlyn and Jodelle, seeing how long and drawn out their stories are, and how maddening it is to the men sometimes wears thin. Maybe/hopefully stories will overlap enough in the time line that even though we're waiting to read it, the characters are maneuvering in the background to get on getting together.

In this book we learn the most about Jodelle so far. Clearly she has a tragic story and because Baker knows all, and anything he can't discover Tex can, I'm sure he has his reasons for not engaging with her. Yet. This is a good tease and hopefully Baker will get to see more of Jodelle throughout the next two books enough to find out what trouble she will be getting herself into.

My heart broke for Monica in this one. From her upbringing to her keeping herself separate. I'm glad that Pid kinda forced her to stay with him and to socialize a bit. It's letting her see things in a different way. It took a while, but she fit in and found a way to be comfortable around everyone. The drama at the end was crazy! I hated how the bad guy got to Monica again, but liked how she was save. I think the bad guy's ending was fitting!

The wedding at the end was a perfect way to end things, on a happy note and we got to see Monica and Pid planning their life together.

A great read

Mo and Stuart have an unusual meeting, though not unheard of in this Alpha military world. The Hawaii SEALS are back and this story was a great addition. We catch up with all the couples, couples to be, Theo and Baker while getting to know Stuart better and of course meeting and learning about Mo. her experience is heartbreaking and her trauma is fresh. I enjoyed seeing her grow as a character and relax on the island. Baker is still my number one I want a story for and I loved seeing more of his background and personality in this book. I couldn’t put the story down and I loved the slow build of a romance while the fast pace action and team dynamics were ever present.

This book was awesome! Now full disclosure, I am a Susan Stoker stalker and read all of her books. While the stories have consistent plots I sincerely believe it is all about the characters and the way a story is told. Susan Stoker always delivers great characters who I grow to love over a series.

Monica is an excellent example of a multi-facted character from Susan. The deep emotional scars left by her father are apparent all throughout her story, but she grows to realise the impact it's having on her life. At the beginning she acknowledges the trauma but finds it hard to see a way through. Pid is also wonderful. He is supportive, respectful and sounds like a great man to build a life with. I loved their story together and was gunning for a happy ending from the first page.

Whether you are a new-to-Susan reader, or an old fan, this book is a great example of her work and I thoroughly recommend it.

Another great Installment in this series! The story is hard to listen to at times and others I can not get enough. The characters filled me with a few “wow” moments then settled into wonderful. Monica has an innate strength that she doesn't realize she has and i was super impressed(where Susan Stoker comes up with these ladies I will never know). Her story hurts my heart. I can not even fathom what she has been through. Luckily she runs across Pid. A nicer guy you will never meet unless his woman is threatened. I loved all that he did for her.

Then enter the other SEALs and their women. Those ladies are becoming a group to be reckoned with as they grow more with each story. I love all the interaction between the men and the women as well.

Overall from the first scene to the last I was completely focused on this story. It is a wild ride full of unimaginable ups and downs. I did listen to this on audio. Emma Wilder and Jason Clarke are the narrators who both do an amazing job! I can not wait for the next in the series.

another superb book

I love the way Susan’s heroines are so real and have issues rather than are just perfect. Monica has had a horrendous childhood with an abusive father but in looking after children she is giving back exactly what she didn’t get. Stuart ( Pid) is extremely attracted to the prickly , introverted, damaged woman he meets on a mission. Unfortunately the mission follows them back to Hawaii and with the help of their friend and former Seal, Baker, they seek to find and defeat their enemy.
Exciting from beginning to end, Susan Stoker does it again!

Couldn’t put it down!! I just LOVE Susan Stoker’s stories!! The love and understanding Pid shows Monica and how he insists on “trust” between them had my heart pitter pattering. It was also great catching up with the gang and seeing where they all are now. The suspense was enthralling and captivating, keeping you on your toes and heart pounding.

excellent read

I could not put this down, not for one second. Lots of twists and turns. Monica had such a trauma child hood, with her father. But she came out of it being stronger. Pid and Monica belong together. I am really hoping we get a story on Baker!

Stuart & Monica's story is fantabulous! I love that she bonds with Slate during her rescue & Stuart gets jealous. LOL

There's some great suspense, of course, but the majority of their story is about them getting to know each other, & Monica struggling with trust. She folds so well into the group, but struggles to trust that fit. Her abusive father stripped away her confidence in EVERYONE, bc the lessons he taught her are ingrained in her brain. Stuart & the women do a great job breaking her walls down, tho!

We get more glimpses at Baker, and we get to catch up with Theo a bit, too, which is nice. He's still a hero!!

Excellent installment to this series!!

Hawaii is hotter than ever

Who has a nickname like Pid? Monica certainly doesn’t know who rescued her or how lucky she’d gotten. With Stuart at her back she slowly learns the men and women surrounding her are nothing like she was raised to believe. Also getting a sneak peek at Baker puts this as one of my favorite Hawaii series books!

Finding Monica: SEAL Team Hawaii Book 4 is by Susan Stoker. Once more, Susan has written a book that is impossible to put down. Her characters come off the pages and drag you into their world. You are entertained and thrilled until the end.
Stuart “Pid” Hall and his SEAL team were helping to evacuate American citizens from Algiers which had blown up with rioting. They had the ambassador and his family at the airport waiting for the plane to take them out when their youngest son approached them and asked them if they were going to get their nanny. She was at their house waiting for them to come home. They couldn’t leave an American citizen behind so Stuart and Slate headed out to find her. They had to take detours around groups of rioters until they finally reached the residence. They searched the house and didn’t find her. As he made a final sweep, Stuart noticed a discrepancy in the master bedroom’s dimensions. The ambassador had a safe room. He approached the room and called out that they were SEALs who had come to rescue her. Monica knew she was found and came out with a gun. Stuard overcame her and told her they were here to rescue her. Only when he mentioned the ambassador’s son did she finally give up. They managed to leave the house only minutes before the mob set it on fire. Now to get to the spot where a helicopter would pick them up.
Monica was not sure they were truly SEALs for a few minutes. Just minutes before they entered the residence, another pair of men, claiming to be SEALs had ransacked the residence and stolen jewelry and money. They, too, figured there was a safe room and taunted her over the cameras; but left without finding her. This plus her abusive childhood with a father who had military training, left her not trusting any person in military attire. Upon arriving at the airport, she was informed she would be returning to Hawaii with the SEALs to be interviewed by their commander. The man she had seen and who had taunted her was a SEAL imposter who was wanted for theft and murder in various places where riots had broken out. She was the only witness he had left alive who had seen him.
Stuart was upset with his commander for the way he simply ordered her to be taken to Hawaii instead of asking her to go. He hadn’t even talked to her; but only to Stuart and Mustang, the group leader. He had promised to protect her and that meant even if going against his commander. Could he protect her from the imposter too?

The SEAL team was unsure what they would find when they arrived at the house after a little boy asked them to save his nanny. Pid knew it would be difficult to get Monica out and back with his team with all the chaos happening around them. He was not expecting Monica to aim a gun at him when they found her.

Monica doesn’t trust military men. It’s what her father taught her. When the house of the family she nannies for is attacked, and a SEAL shows up out of nowhere, she has no choice but to flee. But when the SEAL leaves and two men enter the house shortly after, saying that they were also SEALs, it convinced Monica that someone is using the name to cover up their crimes.

Together with Monica, Pid and his team are trying to figure out who that man was, but being forced to come to Hawaii might not make things any easier for Pid if he wants to show Monica that not all military men are the same.

B4-A23926-D87-F-4-A21-ABC9-8-DAD475-AE9-CD

This is the fourth book in the military romantic suspense series SEAL Team Hawaii. It has a lot of emotions and a heartwarming story that makes you believe there’s good in the world.

82-ED2-B8-B-403-A-4-B4-D-9067-8-E2492-C7-A665

I loved how different Monica is from all the other heroines in Susan Stoker’s books. She doesn’t trust military people. Her animosity is clear to see when she first met Pid. Going through a tough childhood made her depend on herself, trusting no one and never asking for help.

DAA87-BEB-F055-4-E0-E-9-C32-E54-A2-A9-F53-A9

Pid’s determination to make Monica trust him is admirable. Though somewhat annoying at first. He’s patient and protective. His love for her made her believe in things she never thought possible for her.

BCAA29-B7-9-C7-D-48-A7-99-EA-E963-DE5663-B0

I enjoyed reading this book and I can’t wait to see what the other one in this series has to offer. This one is a favourite of mine simply because of Monica. She’s the character that gives you hope for things to get better, that wounds won’t bleed forever and ruin your chances of a happy ending. I’d recommend this book to all romance suspense lovers.

Another enjoyable read in the SEAL Team Hawaii series. I adored Stuart and I loved that Monica called him by his given name (he had a seriously unfortunate nickname – Pid). He was such a great character and he was so patient and gentle and caring with her and her feelings as well as taking the time to understand her introverted nature and years of suffering. He didn’t try to force his friends on her or pressure her to get involved, just lent her his strength and reassurance that it would be okay.

Monica’s backstory was horrible and she had years of trauma-induced programming that she had to fight through and overcome in her own way to free herself ~ to learn to trust, be happy, and open herself up to love. Stuart standing strong and supportive by her side was the perfect aide to help her see and understand that all military men were not the monsters she had been raised to believe. There were good guys out there ~ dependable, strong, protective, kind, and trustworthy.

I really enjoyed the time Monica spent with the other guys’ women; finding her first friends and feeling comfortable and accepted for who she was, was heartwarming. I loved how all the women rallied around her. Oh, and Theo! The bond she formed with him was the best.

I also really liked that Stuart and Monica’s relationship didn’t revolve around a physical relationship early on. She had so much to work through and it was perfect for him to hold back and let her come to terms with them becoming more in her own way and give them a stronger foundation base than just physical interaction. The tension between them was definitely there and in perfect balance between them getting to know each other and taking that final step once everything else was in place. They had a good connection started and a blossoming friendship formed to lead them towards their HEA.

As always, the interaction between all the guys was great. I loved the way Stuart stood up for Monica to their commander and learning more about Baker. There was plenty of excitement in this book ~ suspense, a bit of mystery, humor, action, friendship, and teases of what’s to come in future books.

This, for me, is probably the most immersive read of the series so far.

I needed more of Monica's background tho... I really needed to know more of her history, I am not talking about the abuse she suffered... just more of her. And what happened with her mum? I think I just felt that what was a dramatic set-up was just sort of left... mebbe that is just me. But, I wanted to know more of her life from 16 - 30 too.

I liked Pid. I really liked what he did for Monica to give her a feeling of safety... really thoughtful and meaningful.

I love Theo... love that he plays a small but important part in this series. Will we learn more about him in books to come I wonder?

And Baker Rawlins... . He is just yummy... cannot wait for his tale!

All in all a very good read with a steady pace set!

{38} Finding Monica (SEAL team Hawaii book 4) by Susan Stoker is a 5 ⭐️ read.
Stuart “Pid” Hall is a navy SEAL he’s on a rescue mission in Algeria, he and his team are evacuating American people when a small boy asks him for help to find his nanny. Pid and Slate go to the house where she is to rescue her but he doesn’t expect the hostility from her.
Monica Collins was poorly raised by a military father who taught her some awful lessons when she was just a child and now as an adult those lessons are always there, she’s learned to trust no one especially anyone in the military. When she’s rescued by 2 navy SEALS this is her worst nightmare, she doesn’t expect to be dragged back to Hawaii to help the military, nor does she expect to open up about the abuse she suffered.
I’m a huge Susan Stoker fan, every book is an automatic one click, I might not read them straight away but they are always read and enjoyed.

Another absolute winner from Susan Stoker.
Stuart & Monica's story had the perfect blend of everything I love in a romantic suspense, and really everything I've come to know and love from a Stoker story.
There's action, romance, emotion, solid friendships, a dash of humour and on the edge of your seat suspense.
I absolutely adored Stuart, and loved all of is alpha-ness, protective-ness, compassion, patience, love and supportive nature he had towards Monica.
Stuart and Monica's relationship definitely takes centre stage in this story. I loved watching them get to know each other and loved seeing Monica who has severe trust issues learn to trust not only Stuart but also his team mates and wives / girlfriends.
Monica's backstory broke my heart but seeing her character growth and walls come down was heartwarming.

Side Characters!!!! BBBAAAKKKKEEEERRRRRR... Oh god Susan is slowly killing me with the build up to this man's story. I need, I want and I know I have to wait..... the struggle is real!!
And.....
Sweet Theo, once again a hero, and once again stole my heart.

Loved this addition to the Hawaii series!

bello e commovente!

Take my hand....

This book is an emotional KO from page one, the abuse Monica suffered, the strength she shows now, her awkwardness around adults, her huge heart when meeting Theo and the care and compassion Pid and the team show her will have you feeling like you have survived an emotional tornado, followed by a hurricane.
My heart hurts for the childhood she suffered, but seeing the funny, sweet, confident Monica emerge as Pid breaks through her walls is beautiful to witness.
We also get to see far more of silver fox Baker too, who knew a wet suit striptease could be so sexy! Add in a gorgeous wedding and you have more than you could ever hope for in a book.

You can never go wrong with anything Susan Stoker writes. She could write the phonebook and I'd read it.
Finding Monica was soooo absolutely amazing. I love that we got a deeper look into the very elusive Baker!! I know she's going to make Baker the last book of this series, well because that's the way it's done with w character I need more of!!
Monica and Pid were so good together. I love how Pid was there for Monica, never pushed her and proved that there are good men out there
Bravo Susan Stoker!!!!

SEAL Team Hawaii is shaping up to be one of my favorite Susan Stoker series! Book 4 features Stuart “Pid” and Monica. They meet when Stuart and his team rescue Monica while evacuating US citizens from Algeria. Monica travels back to Hawaii with the team to help identify a person their commander believes is inciting violence in countries during political unrest.

Susan Stoker’s superpower is writing characters who seem so real & relatable. Stuart falls hard for Monica, but she has a troubled past and doesn’t trust anyone. She carries deep emotional & physical scars. Stuart breaks down her barriers in such a loving way. This is a SLOW burn romantic suspense and I loved every minute of it, especially how Stuart goes all Alpha when it finally pops!

Damn I really loved Monica!

She had a lot to overcome but she was strong and got through her main issues!

I loved that she was so friendly with Theo, and that she found a place for herself amongst the other girls.

I can definitely see Baker backing away from the SEAL team and everyone after this book though so aim excited to hopefully come back to him soon

Awesome

Another wonderful ride bu Susan Stoker. I loved that Monica was a different type of female character. She has reasons to be the way she is and isn’t instantly “fixed” when she meets Pid. The sense of family and acceptance that permeates all of Susan’s books is especially present in this book. Don’t miss this wonderful story.

Susan Has Done It Again!!!

Monica and Pid are amazing. Monica has to overcome a past so horrific it’s almost unbelievable but she does it with Pid’s help and patience. And then there is Baker Rawlings. In this book we get more than a glimpse of him. We get to meet him and begin to get to know him.
