“No killing Goblins.”

So reads the sign outside of The Wandering Inn, a small building run by a young woman named Erin Solstice. She serves pasta with sausage, blue fruit juice, and dead acid flies on request. And she comes from another world. Ours.

It’s a bad day when Erin finds herself transported to a fantastical world and nearly gets eaten by a Dragon. She doesn’t belong in a place where monster attacks are a fact of life, and where Humans are one species among many. But she must adapt to her new life. Or die.

In a dangerous world where magic is real and people can level up and gain classes, Erin Solstice must battle somewhat evil Goblins, deadly Rock Crabs, and hungry [Necromancers]. She is no warrior, no mage. Erin Solstice runs an inn.

She’s an [Innkeeper].

12/25/2020 Final Notes:

Rating Raised from 3.5 to 4 Stars

The wrap up for Volume 7 was the Solstice Pt 1-9.

While there is no story blurb for Volume 7, it finally has a page count of 8,000 pages. lol There is also a really great book cover. I guess the cover will be updated when the ebook is released. Not sure when that will happen.

A lot happened in this volume. You'll get a full range of laughter, sighs and yelling at the screen. I admit, I teared up a few times.

The writing is still rough. There are still awkward errors along the way but the story is good. The foundations for an amazing epic are there and I think it will be realized. Tons of interesting characters, several plot lines that bomb into each other, more than one world and engaging events that will keep you going when the latest mini-arc may suck. It's a grand adventure full of ordinary people and extraordinary jackasses. I can't believe I got suckered into this webserial but I'm glad I did.

Pirateaba said that Volume 8 will start on January 9th. I'll probably be there to read the first post. After that? Hopefully, I will put TWI8 on hold until more than a few chapters are out. That way I can enjoy a lingering visit vs a passing wave.

12/17/2020 Notes:

Ch7.46k-Solstice Pt1 is 557,800 words (About 2,231.2 pages)

Solstice is the wrap up for Volume 7. Pirateaba plans to write 3 parts but it may be more and she won't go on break until it's done. Which is pretty amazing and nice of her to do for the readers. I totally appreciate that!

Rating for Vol7 will probably be 4 Stars because there were some AMAZING parts throughout this installment. Have your hankies ready.

09/30/2020 Notes:

September: Vol7: Ch7.43G-7.46K

- At first, I was reading the chapters as soon as they were released. I slowed down though because I like reading the chapters in a row vs waiting for each one.

08/20/2020 Notes:

08/10-20: Vol7: Ch7.00-7.42M

- Vol7 is not finished yet.
- Stopped at Ch7.42M
- 4.5 Stars for Characters
- 4 Stars for Concepts & World
- -2 Stars for usual errors in grammar, spelling, formatting
- Didn't want to wait on updates & paid to read up to most current release.

*fingers crossed* Titan & that Human may be meeting in Vol7! That would be awesome.

Well that opened up a hell of a new plot arc.

But seriously -- they should have let that nutjob die or go undead like Khelt -- his objectivity is shot.

Zaudējums kaujā starp Lēdijas Magnolijas savākto un ģenerāļa Zela Šiverteila, turklāt vēl šī leģendārā karotāja nāvi, pāršalc visus šīs fantāzijas pasaules kontinentus, bet sensacionāli traģiskā ziņa neskar nevienu citu tik smagi kā Zela tautiešu sugas dreikus. Šāda tik liela līdera un vēsturisku kauju varoņa nāve nevar būt kas tāds, ko var viegli sagremot un atgūties, lai uzreiz saņemtos un sagatavoties bez šīs personas gaidāmajai cīņai, jo visi var būt droši, ka tāda būs, ka Goblinu Lords bez tādas tā vienkārši kaut kur miermīlīgi nenolīdis. Turklāt vien retais zina, ka Goblinu Lorda rīcību diktē kāds cits kungs un saimnieks – Nekromancers Az’kerash.

The 8th Volume has come to a close. Pirate Aba. Is looking to start Volume 9 fairly soon, after a very well deserved rest.

Volume 3 had to be broken up into 2 parts due to it's size at 580,400 words approximately. Volume 4 part 2 (book 6) has only recently been published. Volume 4 has 722,100 words approximately.

Considering Volume 5 is around 1,058,200 words long, Volume 6 is 1,602,500 words, Volume 7 2,118,000 words and Volume 8 has just closed out at around 2,863,ooo words, don't be expecting to read\or listen to any parts of volumes 7, or 8 for that matter, for quite some time to come.

But it will be worth it if you like the first 4 volumes.

Merry Christmas your friend is dead.

12.08.21 Hey you know what's a great idea? Read it again but know what's coming so the feeling of dread can really sink in over the ~8000 pages.

8.12.22 I definitely like Ryoka less as a character, because of her... indecisiveness, I think.

It's hard to distinguish between books, not just because I read the whole series at once whenever I feel like getting into it but also I think because the story isn't cut into regular pieces; the chapter length varies so much and the books just keep getting longer. I think of it more as one continuing story.

The grammar is beginning to disturb me. It's clear, on rare occasions, that what the author says is not what the author is trying to say. Again, I'm reading the free online version, the edited ebook might be better. It's disturbing because I wonder if I don't catch everything and am missing some nuance. Also, commas used in a list incorrectly bother me, as they make it seem like there are more when really it's just a description of an adjacent list-object.

The inconsistent hyphenation of terms is another problem, along with the use of 'less' instead of 'fewer'.

There's at least one occasion where I think the wrong name has been used.

I can't stand Aaron I'm so glad there are more Wistram perspectives.

I've noticed... that even when people are using forms of shorthand, when money is paid per word, when space is at a premium, for example in the mages guild, sending texts, communicating on the boards, that character still are fairly wordy. Is this the characters or pirateaba? It's not as extreme as you might think from the outside, if you were to judge from the word count of chapters and books, but there's a definite tendency towards belabouring the point and dragging out situations. Not by a lot, most of what's written is relevant and entertaining and necessary to make the book what it is, but there could be a bit of editing there.

My understanding of autism is fairly flawed. I'm not really qualified to discuss it at any length. I like the inclusion of it, even if I disagree with some things.

I wonder about Khelt and the idea that seems to be put forward, that a welfare state breeds idleness and... a lack of fulfillment. That, though, is all tied up with an examination of the levelling system.

Why does Mavika fail to rhyme sometimes? The depiction of the witches bothers me, not just because of the cribbing from Pratchett but the idea that emotions can be transformed. If she's pouring all darkness and guilt into a brew then how does it become beneficial? Can you take too much? Does taking affect the person taken from?

Can pride be used up? I'm not sure that I agree with that. Unless it's InnWorld-specific?

Hail Satan and have a nice day.

This web serial was instantly one of the best I've read, and I spent right around 2 months binge reading the entire thing. I do have some criticism of this volume, but overall the series is still a high 5 star and it has been a great ride reading it.

All previous volumes were 5 stars for me, but this one is 4 stars because of a certain event that happened near the end. It was just poorly executed, came out of nowhere, and wasn't really necessary with everything else going on. It isn't a deal breaker, and I'll come back for volume 8, but it is a small blemish in the wonderful writing up until this point. Since this is a web serial and people can comment, others seemed to feel the same way, but many people either weren't bothered or loved it, so that's just my personal opinion.

All that being said, there is a lot to love about this series. The characters are great, and despite there being tons of them, each one is fleshed out and feel like people for the most part. There are some characters I hate, but only because they are written as believably hateful people.

The world building is absolutely amazing. Maybe it's because the series is so long, so there's room to talk about it, but I really love how fleshed out every little aspect of the world is. There are some things that you might find in a generic fantasy world, but also lots of creative new things added in. Even the generic things are usually made into something unique to the story.

There's a lot of slice of life mixed in with world changing plots, and I really appreciate the variety. Again, that's probably because it is so long that there's room for everything, but it's nice to have a chapter or two of silliness or crazy innkeeper shenanigans mixed in with action and adventure and even a bit of horror in some places.

Overall, I have to say this is now near the top of my still new but growing list of web serials I've read. I'd recommend this to LitRPG/secondary world fans as well as general fantasy fans, as long as you have a lot of time to spare. There is a ton of heart here and the writing is extremely polished, especially since it is a twice weekly updated web serial with minimal editing.

I feel so much about this book. It was truly a rollercoaster. This was the first book of the series that I was reading as it was written instead of in one go, so I have been invested in it a lot longer than the others. There were chapters that made my whole day brighter, and chapters that broke me. There was so much that was so thoroughly unexpected, that I can't help being excited for what comes next.
Volume 7 starts at with Erin coming back from vacation, and definitely not in the middle of a major incident involving frost Wyverns and magical fire. A lot of minor plots progress, and we end at the summer solstice with Ryoka's party and the Gnoll's Meeting of the Tribes. These arcs are not exactly done, but the ending is a good place for an ending, and somehow I have read 8000 pages with no real idea of how that happened.
Reading with each update means I am not as sensitive to between chapter transitions, but the ones within chapters are smooth. I mostly care about each new perspective, and now that the focus of the story is more about the World that the day to day happenings of characters, they all fit together more. I love when the perspectives interact, and that makes it more satisfying even if I do really like the calm day-to-day happenings bits. I'm looking forward to the next volume!

Loved. Loved. Loved. So rare for an author to weave with so many strings and never forget any as we keep going through so many THOUSANDS of pages. The end to this one was strange... but I like it overall! And per usual I can't wait for the next volume.

Wow. This is a very long volume, clocking in at around 2 million words. (For reference, the whole Harry Potter series is "just" around 1 million words.) It's really amazing pirateaba wrote this epic in just a year.

This volume was full of changes and challenges for the story and the residents of the Wandering Inn. I enjoyed every major plotline, and was consistently surprised all the way through. I was shocked over and over again, often in ways that made me feel deeply emotional. I am embarrassingly invested in the lives of these silly characters. The biggest shock for me was the author's decision to

While I may not be reading this like a traditional web serial, I totally get it. I feel like I'm binging a 600 episode show, complete with a vast cast of great, interesting characters in a fantasy world. The balance between comfort-food, humor, progression, humanizing the big bads, and epic freaking battles is putting this right at the top of my lists for great stories.

Here's the thing: what it lacks in being special in writing craft, it more than makes up in being accessible and truly vast, interesting. I like just about EVERY single character, even the ones I'm supposed to hate. They all have their rough spots, but damn, I'm simply having a great time.

If I were to be honest, I'd give this a 3.5 for writing, a 4 for ideas, and a 5 for pure enjoyment. Obviously, I'm weighting my review on enjoyment. I'm just excited, heart-warmed, and amused all the time.

To my synesthesia, this book is like a gigantic cupcake with red frosting and tons of really delightful sprinkles. It's special, too, because I never get full and it doesn't put on weight.

I do feel sorry for my bookshelf, though. These books are HUGE honkers. :)

Personal note:
If anyone reading my reviews might be interested in reading my own SF, I'm going to be open to DM requests. I think it's about time I get some eyes on them.

It's just so nice to slip back into The Wandering Inn-verse again! Comforting even. I would even state that it's pirateaba's best book to date!
The Rains of Liscor takes place right after bk6 The General of Izril and the world is still, reeling over Zel Shivertail's defeat! Liscor is still in morning as is everyone in the Inn, especially little Mrsha who had a special connection to him!
Pirateaba is genius though, within moments of starting The Rains of Liscor I found myself overwhelmed by my own emotions and teary eyed sadness, but that was quickly followed up by one of the funniest scenes that I've had the pleasure of reading... yes, you can chalk that up to the doings of Erin Solstice! Oh, and monsters keep up the pressure and attack!
Ohhhh yeah, pirateaba's genius really shines, as they continue to ratchet up on the reveals and every section of the story has it's secret 😳 reveals as you get to each of 'em, and I expect that those reveals to blow yer mind... As pirateaba quietly weaves the story-threads together. I was even surprised by the threads left undone by the story's end! But don't get me wrong The Rains of Liscor is a full course buffet, not a cliffhanger... and yet you'll still hunger for more guaranteed! Don't bother looking the next book it isn't listed for pre-order yet, I've looked 😆!

The best written chapter of the gargantuan series is in this volume, 7.61...and it should have ended with 7.62, maybe. A tremendous world-builder, a superlative character-driven writer, that's who Pirateaba is. I respect her talent and effort immensely.

The volume is so huge, and I have been reading it a VERY long time as mostly my bedtime reading (depending on the chapter, I sometimes only read about ten minutes at night). But every Erin chapter was fantastic, and then I would snatch reading time whenever I could (I usually have at least one other very active book). I don't like the creepy, evil characters, and I absolutely didn't enjoy the fae world at all, no matter how important they might be. I will listen to them carefully when the audio book comes out, but I confess I sped read the Solstice chapters. Really did not like the creepy and surreal aspects one bit that pop up ever so often in the epic story. It's not why I read The Wandering Inn. But I cried so hard at the climax of this volume, 7.61, despite a jerk on Discord spoiling it months ago. Overall, has to be five stars.

This volume started and ended strong but honestly the middle felt really lost and meandering. I feel like this volume more than most could have used an editor to really clear off a lot of chaff. I started volume 7 very excitedly since it started with a bang that promised a lot of progress this volume but it quickly petered out. Generally I like slow burns and slice of life moments but after a few million words I expected more and this volume more than the rest I felt a bit of a dip in quality compared to some previous volumes for me personally (probably due to more of a romantic focus which I don't think is pirate's strong suit) so sometimes I felt pretty frustrated. However, there were definitely a lot of great moments sprinkled throughout the volume. Definitely think it was worth reading just needed and editor to be a bit more even throughout. Of course this is just my opinion as I know plenty of readers absolutely loved this volume.

I've been lost in The Wandering Inn's world for the last 3 weeks and I love everything about it. The characters are flawed and do stupid things that you want to hate them for, but can't. Even ones that you think are evil have some trauma or past and aren't truly awful like you think.

My only gripe is that the romance-building is so terrible to the point that I wish everyone was asexual. There's no chemistry or passion in any of the relationships. You'll be reading a chapter and out of nowhere, you get a few sentences like "oh, btw they went out for drinks and are now a couple". Then you don't want to read that characters story anymore. And it's not only one relationship, its multiple people who you suddenly find out are together even though they barely know each other after 7 volumes... >.>

Can't believe you broke my Ryoka x Erin ship. I hate you! :(

Probably the longest volume, by far.
I still do not understand why but this series has become an obsession. I've had many sleepless nights just finished finishing chapters only to get sucked into starting the next one!!

However - without giving away any spoilers - I do believe the author has written himself into a corner without escape.
Either the saga ends in a most unsatisfying way or some sort of ex machina will be injected. Either way it'll probably means quits and disgust for me.

I need to take a break and catch up with life for a while ... So, if you have already read v.8, PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO THIS REVIEW WITH ANY SPOILERS!!!

I need to write this review. Even though the story is still ongoing, I have to say reading The Wandering Inn has been the best decision I've made in the year of 2020.

The very emotive writing, the fleshed out and deep characters and the expansive (and gigantic) cast and storylines are some of the aspects I would like to exalt in this review. There are fan favorites and characters people like less but I love them all and reading their perspectives.

It's a titanic undertaking to start reading this web serial, this book series, but I whole heartedly recommend it.

Erin stops acting like an idiot! Well kindda…

I'm glad I came back to the story after a long break. Book 6 was just too much for me but this one is balanced with all the stories and interesting stuff actually happens, and you don’t need to read chapter upon chapters of characters crying and whining about stuff.

It's a book 7 review so if you are reading this you are probably considering if to keep going, so I recommend you do.

Just don’t binge read this, it gets way too much very fast.
