When Karthik wakes up at four in the morning, all he thinks about was sleeping again. After accomplishing the goal by sleeping three more hours, he wakes up without knowing what’s gonna happen next. During the course of the day, he learns; The importance of time; The fact that denim does not cause impotence in men; There is no need to fall in love with every girl one sees; And about a 13th century Persian poet named Rumi.
Randomly ordered is a snapshot in the life of an average man. Everyday is a story as it involves so many incidents and characters. The novella is an attempt to visualize how our every day experiences prepare us for tomorrow.
Karthik Pasupathy is a blogger, writer, and photographer. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology, and master’s degree in Bioinformatics. His love for writing started during his college days where he was introduced to the world of literature. Apart from blogging and writing, he also like to travel and photography. He wrote several short stories for a Chennai based magazine.
Randomly Ordered: A Novella. An experimental take I should say. The narration flows in such a way that there are no hiccups. What works is there are no special incidents but a normal day of a guy who opens his day with the readers. Quite a short read and if you are a person who would like to read experimental works, then this book is for you.
Randomly ordered, unlike its name lead us to believe, goes in a very linear fashion. The Author takes us through the thoughts of his right from the moment he wakes up till his day ends. If it was a special day, the interest would have sagged. The narrated day is perfectly normal as any day can get but the thoughts running through the mind of the author is not so normal. I was able to identify myself with the narration in a lot of places.
This is an unique experience. If you like offbeat and experimental writing, you can go for this.
What if there was a means to record our thought process and we get to replay it in the form of a novella? Randomly Ordered is one such recording of one person's thought process that happens on one ordinary day.
As Karthik wakes up and goes around through his daily routine, he narrates what goes around within his mind. His day covers the morning hours of getting ready to office, a small glitch while traveling to his office, his observations at the office, another discrepancy that he needs to attend to back at home, his travel back home and his late evening hours with his mom at home. Pretty much, an ordinary day, as it sounds!
One can imagine the story line to be a mundane journal of one person. But, I would rather look at this work a step beyond a journal writing. Randomly ordered isn't about what happened on that one day in Karthik's life. It is more about how Karthik perceived the situations that every big and small turns of that one day had brought with it. It is about a process that happens within you, me and everyone in this world. It is about the thousands of unspoken words that go hidden behind a handful of words which we would use if we were to describe a day's routine.
Randomly Ordered is a simple, straight forward book which you can complete in a few minutes, may be, during a short bus travel. It can, perhaps, motivate you to try doing what Karthik does in the book - connect with your thoughts!
This books more like a contents of ac detailed diary of a day. The reading was quite fluid. I admired the ability of the author to create stories from every day events we go through without much thought
I should tell that it's an experimental attempt by Karthik and also new kind of genre for book readers (Neither ficiton nor Non-Fiction). Every page of the book and events connects with you personally.
