It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…Merry Winters is excited for her dream-come-true moment: Being an on-site crafter for a Christmas movie. The tidings of joy are short-lived as she finds herself becoming a referee, dealing with a raging Ebenezer, participating in a bucket brigade, and finding evidence in a “murder.” Is someone trying to stop the production or is it tied to a secret someone has on Luna Carmichael, the star of the movie and the queen of Christmas? When Marie, Luna’s assistant, stumbles away from a car accident and dies, Merry believes the accident wasn’t quite so accidental. Was Luna or Marie the target? Merry finds more questions than answers, but one thing is certain: Everyone has an ulterior motive for being part of the production—including Marie. After another murder, Merry wonders if the deaths are tied to a baby born long ago and abandoned. And more importantly, will Merry live long enough to find out?

Dollycas’s Thoughts

Merry Winters has landed a great job, crafting decorations for a Christmas movie, think Hallmark. But she finds the movie’s leading lady, the Queen of Christmas movies, may have ulterior motives in a few hiring decisions for the film, including Merry. Soon after she arrives many of the movie props are destroyed in a fire. She learns there have been many pranks played already, was the fire a prank that went too far or a real crime. Then the star’s assistant dies in a car accident that Merry believes was more murder than accidental. Merry finds herself putting on her sleuthing cap again and finds much more than she ever could have wished for.

I love Christmas movies, both the new Hallmark variety and the classic ones like White Christmas and Miracle on 34th Street so this series is a wonderful gift.

Ms. Freeburn takes our protagonist on the road in Dash Away All. Merry Winters and her guinea pig, Ebenezer, go to Indiana for a dream job that quickly turns into a nightmare. These characters are so well-crafted. I love that Ebenezer got to make his acting debut.

The author also has to introduce several new characters with the movie’s cast and crew along with a few locals who have to evolve over the course of the book. Some are pretty over the top but most are true to real life.

The mystery was very well-plotted with more than one mystery to solve. For me, the second mystery would have had a greater impact if it hadn’t been mentioned in the synopsis. I like to be surprised by twists like the one in this story. Many characters looked like they could be the guilty party and I changed my mind a couple of times. Merry took some real risks to get to the truth. It was fun to tag along with her.

Dash Away All is an entertaining story with captivating characters. Great for fans of cozy mysteries and Christmas movies.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy from the Great Escapes Book Tours. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Dash Away All by Christina Freeburn is another sweet mystery that shows that just because its a Christmas movie doesn't mean it's merry and bright.
Will Merry figure out what happened to Marie before the police decide to shut down the movie?
Merry Winters
Merry Winters returns in a new mystery. Instead of being in her town in West Virginia, she is now in Carol Lake, Indiana, working on the set of a Christmas mystery movie. Merry is there as the crafter lady. Well, that is until a lot of strange things start to happen. Will Merry keep her nose out of it and just continue to do what she was paid to do? Probably not. She is excellent at solving the mysteries, no matter what ends up happening. What I like about Merry is that she has done a great job of raising her kids and doing what she wants to do.  I love that she is so into her Christmas crafts and with the naming of her guinea pig. The guinea pig is still a great touch as the sleuth's pet.
The Mystery
Dash Away All CRThe mystery starts with a wayward prank set off, and then the whole reason Marie is on the set in the first place is murdered. Let's just say that it gets to be very rocky for Merry, and she might not be all that into Christmas movies after all this. Merry ends up investigating this crime because she was the first on the scene of the so-called car accident. I love that she never gives up despite what Merry has been told countless times. It's a good thing that she didn't since who knows if the murderer would have gotten away with it. Who do you think the murderer is?
4 Stars
Dash Away All by Christina Freeburn is another fabulous Christmas themed mystery. I love the questions that Merry faces in this one since taking on trying to figure out what happened to Marie, the first victim, and if it had anything to do with the pranks. Ms. Freeburn did an awesome job and I'm giving this story four stars and recommending it to all of the Christmas and cozy mystery reads out there.

We need a little Christmas; right this very minute….We do don’t we? Christmas means good cheer. Tidings of comfort and joy. Decorations, family, and music. In Dash Away All, it also means murder! I love Christmas, so, obviously, I love Christmas movies. So does Merry, and when she gets the chance to work as a crafter on set with the queen of Christmas movies, Luna Carmichael, she jumps at it! I don’t blame her! Though I’m not crafty, I’d jump at the chance to be on set with one of the Hallmark Christmas queens! You know who I’m talking about…Candance, Lacey, Danica, etc. It would be so cool! However, I’d hope these ladies are nothing like Luna because her onscreen persona doesn’t match her in real life at all.

Dash Away All is the third book in the Merry & Bright Handcrafted Christmas Mystery series, but it’s the first I’ve read. This didn’t hinder me from enjoying the story since only Merry and a couple of other characters play a role in this book. I had no clue who the murderer was in Dash Away All. Sure, there were some hints, but so many characters had means, motive, and opportunity! I enjoyed reading this cozy mystery, and I think you will too (especially if you’re Christmas crazy!).

This is the third book in the Merry and Bright Handcrafted mystery series by Christina Freeburn.

Basic premise: Crafting for a Christmas movie isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Merry Winters is excited to be involved in such an awesome adventure but when it comes down to it, murder trumps Christmas almost every time. Everyone’s a suspect here and Merry is put on a merry chase to find out what is really going on when one of the movie assistants is discovered dead.

I thought this was a really well done book. I always love a good crafting mystery.

Just when you think you might understand whodunit, that is the moment when everything changes and you have to question what you think might be the motive behind it all. Definitely a series I want to continue with

If you like this type of book and want to read a good cozy mystery, check this one out for sure. You won’t be disappointed.

I received this as an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) in return for an honest review. I thank NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this title.

In this third instalment of the 'Merry & Bright Handcrafted Mystery' series by Christina Freeburn, Merry Winters has been afforded a wonderful opportunity. The holiday crafter has been chosen to provide her hand crafted items for the set of a Christmas film, Dash Away All, that will star the fabulous Luna Carmichael, the reigning Queen of Christmas movies. She travels to Indiana, however, when she arrives, festive spirit and joy seem to be in short supply. Luna's personal assistant, Marie is distant, and Luna herself is easily irritable and rather Scrooge-like. Then Marie is found dead following a car accident...

This is my first cosy read by Christina Freeburn and it had a rather different focus to many other Yuletide festive cosies, but that was no bad thing as it really packed a punch. Merry Winters was loyal, hard-working, had a warm heart and tried, where possible, to see the best in everyone and her furry, people-hating, guinea pig friend, Ebenezer was a novel addition to the shenanigans. The plot was terrific with many twists and misdirections and I was certainly left guessing whilst attempting to fine-tune my armchair detective skills. Christina Freeburn's characterisation was great and each had their individual foibles with many possessing their own hidden agendas, motives or nefarious intentions. I particularly liked the parts of efficient, cool and calm Sheriff Rhodes, and strong, kind and considerate Paul McCormick, Marie's cousin.

Heavy on drama, I really enjoyed reading about Merry and look forward to becoming better acquainted with her and Ebenezer in future instalments, along with catching up on the first two books, Not A Creature Was Stirring and Better Watch Out. Dash Away All is a great choice for lovers of craft or less sickly-sweet Yuletide based cosies. A wonderful and satisfying read for Christmas or any other time!

I received a complimentary copy of this novel from Great Escapes Book Tours at my request and this review is my unbiased opinion.

DASH AWAY ALL by Christina Freeburn
The Third Merry & Bright Mystery

Holiday crafter Merry Winters has a chance of a lifetime. She's been chosen to come to the set and provide hand crafted items for a Christmas movie starring none other than Luna Carmichael, the queen of Christmas. When Merry arrives in Indiana she discovers that things are not so holly and jolly. A series of pranks have been occurring on set, Marie, Luna's personal assistant who recommended Merry for the job, seems distant and suspicious, and Luna herself is more Scrooge than Mrs. Claus! When Merry discovers Marie dead, she's unconvinced it's an accident, and so is the Sheriff. There's much more going on than making Christmas movie magic and Merry is smack dab in the middle of it. The question is, will she survive to craft another day?

Christmas movies evoke a sense of tradition, hope, and goodwill toward men. The reality is that Christmas movies are a business, oftentimes filmed in the heat of the summer, and people are not always nice. Merry thinks working on the set will be a dream come true. Instead she finds a harsh reality and murder. While slightly disappointed that Christmas magic doesn't exist, at least in this book, seeing the tarnish behind the glitter was somehow satisfying.

DASH AWAY ALL looks at parental relationships and their effect on both the parent and the child. Does biology make a difference? Is it better to know the truth of your birth or would you prefer to be content in your ignorance? To what lengths will you go to find the child you gave up...or the parents who left you?

Merry and her partner, Bright, have a very unique relationship. After reading this third installment in the series, I have a theory, but, wary of spoilers, I won't share it. I hope we learn more about Bright and the veracity of my theory in future books.

DASH AWAY ALL removes the sparkle and glamour of Christmas while shining a light on familial drama and the reality that the truth will always out. It's an intriguing mystery that I enjoyed reading. I especially loved Ebenezer's antics. I just hope that when Christmastime actually rolls around everyone will have the Christmas Spirit!

FTC Disclosure – The publisher sent me a digital ARC provided through Edelweiss, in the hopes I would review it.

I was close to frustration with Merry Winters, the main character in Dash Away All by Christina Freeman, when she became frustrated with herself. Finally! Merry has been contracted to create craft items for the backdrop of a Christmas movie featuring a crafter. The job becomes bigger than originally planned when a shed holding many Christmas decorations burns down and Merry is expected to create or round up from the tiny town of Carol Lake, Indiana, the necessary items to fill out the various scenes. For someone so overwhelmingly concerned about the quantity of crafts she is supposed to make, Merry spends a lot of time going down rabbit holes. Some of the trails she follows are legitimate ones to pursue a criminal, but others are self-indulgent like her visit to a toy store. Sometimes she is just plain nosy and involves herself in things that are truly none of her business.

This Christmas movie is being filmed in a hot and humid July, so if you are looking for a Christmassy read, this is not for you. If you want a cozy mystery with red herrings, a plot with twists and turns, some danger, and a tiny splash of romance, you would probably enjoy Dash Away All. An aging and domineering Christmas movie star is making a comeback at the same time she is trying to resolve some personal issues from her past. They happen to coincide with Merry’s current crisis in terms of family. Merry’s long distance business partner Bright is somewhat helpful, but it seems we will never meet her as she, for family reasons, is not able to join Merry in her time of need. I, unfortunately, felt little fondness for the characters in this mystery, and that hampered my enjoyment of the book. Even the role of Ebenezer the Guinea pig seemed contrived.

I would like to extend my thanks to Edelweiss and Henery Press for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

I've read the 1st 2 books in the series and enjoyed them, however there are a few problems with this 3rd book.

I'm a mystery addict and love a whodunit but there are times when authors just throw too many suspects and subplots into a book. After about the 1st 2 chapters I had to use a large pc of writing paper to try to keep up with all the characters, relationships to each other etc. If you can handle a book like this you will love it!

My biggest complaint is that the whole story takes place in Indiana during the summer time. A movie studio is filming a Christmas story and needs the main character (Merry) to help with decorations and crafts. I can't understand why the author could not have used the 1st 2 books location and the story happening during the period between Thanksgiving & Christmas! If I'm reading a cozy mystery centered around Christmas I want it to take place during that period!

I also think that the author could start adding a little romance into the main character. She seems cold as ice when it comes to romantic involvement!

Most of the author's fans will like this book and I do believe I will continue reading the series and maybe try 1 of here other series! This book however was just a bit of a let down for me!

For crafter Merry Winters, the opportunity to showcase her work and meet her Christmas movie hero, Luna Carmichael, is a dream come true! She packs up her RV and her adorable guinea pig, Ebenezer, and hits the road, making the long drive from West Virginia to Indiana. But as soon as she arrives on set, Merry can tell something is amiss. Between crew disagreements, petty arguments, and some downright dangerous pranks, the set of "Dash Away All" might be the most dangerous place for Merry to be!

I'm always delighted by Ebenezer and I thought it was adorable that he gets to play a role in the fictional movie! The character canvas got away from me right from the beginning, so I found myself going back to the beginning frequently to remind myself who was who. Understandable given the twists and turns that author Christina Freeburn packed into this latest Merry & Bright Handcrafted Mystery!

A fun read to get you into the holiday spirit.

When Merry Winters arrives in Indiana in her Christmas-themed RV for her temporary job making crafts for the set of a Christmas movie, she's shocked to find a fire that damages many of the props. Merry is drawn into the mystery revolving a string of pranks on set, of which the fire appears to only be the most recent. When the movie star's assistant dies, Merry isn't convinced it was an accident.

Dash Away All is a complex cozy mystery with a fun setting (a holiday movie) and an interesting cast of characters which includes Merry's adorable pet guinea pig Ebeneezer who refuses to be ignored. This is a sweet novel about family and found family, with a heartwarming ending. 3.5 Stars

Merry Winters is a Christmas maven and a murder magnet! In Dash Away All, the 3rd book in the A Merry & Bright Handcrafted Mystery a call to work on set of the holiday movie is a dream come true for Merry but almost as soon as she arrives things take a down turn. When holiday scenery is destroyed before she even gets settled, she is expected to replace it as well as produce the ornaments that she was contracted for. Strange incidences soon draws her attention to a couple of mysteries surrounding one of her favorite stars who has written the current TV movie. Trying to keep up with her work and follow her natural inclination to investigate what is happening in the background is a big job soon compounded when she comes across the scene of a car wreck that turns out not to be an accident.
