Pelican Bay #2

Sanctuary Found

Rate this book
Coming home should be the easiest thing in the world, but I've never felt more lost...

When his stellar military career comes to an abrupt and terrible end, thirty-two-year-old Maddox Kent returns to the town he never planned to step foot into again, hoping to mend the rift he himself caused with the brother he left behind. But coming home means facing some hard truths about himself and his actions. When he has the chance to start making amends by helping his brother with the wildlife sanctuary he runs, Maddox is thrown another curveball when a stranger appears...

As long as we keep moving, everything will be okay. That's what I keep telling myself, anyway...

For twenty-one-year-old Isaac, Pelican Bay is only supposed to be a stopping point on the trek from San Francisco to New York. With his little brother, Newt, in tow, Isaac is just looking to make things right by returning something of value to a person he wronged. But "getting lost" in the next big city proves to be a problem when the brutal Minnesota winter claims Isaac's car and strands him and Newt at the animal sanctuary. When the owners of the place offer him a job, a desperate Isaac agrees, despite the presence of a man Isaac instinctively knows could be his downfall...

It should be so easy to let him go, but I can't. And not just because I want to protect him...

Nothing about Isaac makes sense to Maddox. Not his piercings or makeup or flashy clothes. And most certainly not the snarky mouth that doesn't match the vulnerability Maddox sees in the younger man's eyes. But one thing does make sense to the hardened former soldier. Isaac is running from something, and Maddox's gut is telling him not to let Isaac and little Newt go until he can ferret out the truth.

But having Isaac around means trying to make sense of something else Maddox isn't expecting... his own body's response to the beautiful younger man. Aside from their explosive chemistry, nothing about the straitlaced soldier and the secretive misfit works.

But maybe that's exactly why it does...

NOTE: Can be read as a standalone (no cliffhangers) but more enjoyment may be had by reading book 1, Locked in Silence, first.

Hot damn but this was good:

✔ enemies-to-lovers (Maddox assumes Isaac is a criminal hiding something, and Isaac gets all in Mac's face),
✔ possessive ex-military man with demons of his own,
✔ femme guy who has a secret penchant for the soft and frilly,
✔ comfort & healing,
✔ opposites attract,
✔ age gap,
✔ sizzling UST,
✔ family-is-what-you-make-it trope,
✔ cute kid,
✔ kittens . . . all that AND
✔ manties!

The best surprise? This book isn't overly angsty, but while the angst isn't OTT and never sinks into melodrama, it's not a sparkly rainbow either: there are

There's plenty of steam (Maddox worships Isaac's body), but the focus is very much on the emotional aspects of the relationship.

Maddox and Isaac are just perfect together! I liked seeing Dallas and Nolan again too.

There are many potential future pairings (oh, hello, Sheriff McSexy!), and I'm greedy for more. I'm particularly looking forward to Jett's story. I love wounded heroes and hurt/comfort.

My one complaint is that Isaac's little brother, Newt, is a near replica of Matty from the Protectors series, except instead of a Spidey action figure he carries around Lightning McQueen from Cars.

Even though this series is a bit different, than what I was used from Sloane Kennedy, I really enjoyed reading the first book. Now this second one I loved even more !

https://www.google.com/search?biw=1366

I was very intrigued with Isaac and his little brother when I first met them in "Locked in Silence". Little Newt stole my heart the moment I met him and he continued to do so throughout this book.

https://www.google.com/search?q=you stole my heart gif

The way Sloane wrote this book, I think it would be possible to read it as a stand alone. My advice however, is to start with book 1, because a lot of characters from the first book,  reappear in this story.

Isaac and his 4 year old brother Newt, have been on the run for some time. The plan was to only return Nolan´s violin and then to set of to New York. But Isaac hadn't counted on The Sanctuary to be such a wonderful place, and on Nolan and Dallas to be such amazing people. I mean the place does have bear, an awesome wolf, and an ornery zebra.

https://www.google.com/search?biw=1366

He certainly hadn´t counted on Maddox.... Big and broody Maddox, who has so much more going for him, than meets the eye. Isaac is about to find out how much more ...

From the moment Maddox sets his sight on Isaac, he knows something is different. Maddox has never been one for labels, and even though he has only been with a few women (except for one kiss) he isn't really worried about having feelings for a man.

https://www.google.com/search?biw=1366

I could really find myself in Maddox' way of thinking. Labels are for clothes after all....not people...

It takes some time for these two to finally get together and when they do, they certainly set the sheets on fire..

tumblr_static_tumblr_static_b5z797da40g8kgkk0ok4gkc4k_640.gif (493×278)

Isaac also has a little kink going for him, that Maddox can't get enough of ;)

But I am gonna be completely honest here..... The one that really stole the show for me was Newt !! That kid was freaking adorable !! Next time someone makes me a promise, I will make them spit and shake on it !!!

https://www.google.com/search?biw=1366

I really loved this second book in the series and I can't wait for Cam and Ford's story. Highly recommended !!

This book definitely had its moments, but it didn’t manage to hold my interest during all of it, and I ended up a little bored on more than one occasion.

The romance between Maddox and Isaac ends up being sweet and warm, but their road to getting together wasn’t all that great to me. Something felt a little off.
What should have been a great opposites attract love story with lots of hurt/comfort, ended up feeling slightly dry. Thus, I can’t say I felt truly invested in their relationship.
The romance just wasn’t great to me even though I do like these two together. They gave each other affection, comfort and respect, but yet something was missing for me.

I also think the plot in this book could have been developed a lot better. Especially considering the beginning of this book just rehashed what we read about in book 1. That definitely bored me. Eventually we strayed from that, which was good, but I still wouldn’t say we truly got a super well thought-out plot.

Without a doubt, my favourite part about this book was Isaac’s 4-year old brother, Newt. He was so adorable and so sweet, I genuinely wish he existed in real-life, just so I could hug him forever.
His relationship with Isaac was so endearing; it made me feel so much love and respect for Isaac because he not only managed to raise his kid-brother this well within such dire circumstances, but all their interactions were simply just amazing. He truly took care of him in a very loving way.
I also loved the family bond Newt developed with all the other adults. I actually wish we could have seen Dallas and Nolan's POV whenever they played with and took care of Newt: I just know they loved him so much as well, and I wanted to see more of that!
But seriously, I love Newt so much. It reminded me of how much I love little kids in books if they are written well. They can really create such wholesome vibes in a story, and I adore it every time. Newt was honestly a little ray of sunshine in this otherwise rather bleak book.

~LACY PANTIES FOUND~

The second book in the Pelican Bay series and what I like to call the hating ass town. I was kind of iffy about reading this one since the first book pissed me off so much and I didn’t want to deal with that kind of emotion again. Luckily, this book was most focused on the couple and I didn’t have to deal with inhabitants that spend all their days drinking haterade. But, while there was less about the town it didn’t mean there weren’t snippets that pissed me off, and Maddox that guy he pissed me off, but we cool now.

We first met Maddox and Isaac at the end of Locked In Silence and from the get go you could tell their story was going to be interesting and sexy as hell. I can honestly say I was not disappointed. Isaac who is running from something with his little brother get taken in at the animal sanctuary and begin to build a little family with the guys from LiS and of course Maddox. While sparks fly between the two men their coming together is rather tumultuous and there’s a lot of preconceived notions that have to be thrown out.

Maddox is dealing with PTSD and his very first attraction to a man and it’s messing with his head. Also mans doesn’t know how to use his words so he finds himself in a lot of situations where Isaac is jumping to conclusions and he’s doing nothing to diffuse the bomb. Isaac, was very defensive and could not differentiate between help and pity. His redeeming quality is being able to put it all on the line to keep his little brother safe and his willing to do it all to make sure they have money to survive.

An incident in a motel room leads to a clash between the men but it also begins their love story. Isaac understands Maddox like no one else could, and Maddox finds himself caring deeply for the young man and his little brother. They begin to burrow themselves within his heart and he starts to think maybe he isn’t such a waste man and maybe he can begin to heal from old hurts and right the wrongs of hurts he’s caused especially to his brother and perhaps he can have some form of redemption. Because the sanctuary isn’t just for the animals, it’s become a place of refuge for him also.

Alright, the story was good. The writing was good, and just everything came together really well. I was hella annoyed in the beginning with Maddox rehashing the hating ass town of old, and his involvement in isolating and hating on his brother and let me tell you folks it did nothing to help me go over to his side of things. I will never forgive that a town isolated and hated on a man who did nothing wrong, and Maddox knew how problematic his parents were and still acted a darn fool. The town melodrama then melts into the background (hallelujah) and our love story rises like a Phoenix from the ashes. Isaac and Maddox start to heat things and melt all the snow they were surrounded by.

The plotty device, while very sad didn’t really add any meat to the story. I could have done with more of Maddox’s PTSD , and less of Isaac hooker boy ways but I understand the need in creating a backstory for Isaac hooker ways, but there would have been nothing wrong if he was just doing it because he wanted to. I absolutely adored Newt, Issacs little brother he really created a nice balance in the story and was an important part of the story. Children can just be backdrop in stories, providing no real presence but Newt was very much a part of Sanctuary Found and its as much his story as it is Maddox/Isaacs.

Overall, a great addition to the series. It had the right amount of heat with sweet and while it didn’t “wow” me it didn’t disappoint me either. Sloan Kennedy is becoming an author I enjoy reading. Her stuff, some formulated but still very entertaining and I always find myself unable to stop reading. Looking forward to reading more about this town and hating ass ways, who else will succumb to love in Pelican “town haters” Bay??

I just love Maddox and Isaac together and Newt is to adorable for words.
You just want to hug and protect Isaac and Newt and it's such a relief that they found Maddox, Nolan and Dallas.
Even if Isaac doesn't trust easily he just can't deny the attraction between him and Maddox. And Maddox may be surprised that he has those type of feelings for a man but he quickly realises that Isaac is the one that is suppose to be his.

I had so many feelings reading this book and Christmas and the dog tags had me crying.
I'm really looking forward to reading more about Cam and Ford and from what we've learned about Jett I really want a happy ending for him

And one last thing, I want a Loki!

I am loving this series so far. I love the way S.K. does small town settings. Needless to say, the Finding series was my favorite. Now there's Pelican Bay, and I'm looking forward to all the future books. Is it just me, or is there less crying going on? What a relief!

Newt was too cute! OMG! Classic S.K.

I highly enjoyed it but I didn't loved it. A story about an ex-military guy suffering from PTSD and a teen and his younger brother on the run. Said characters collided in Pelican Bay and sparks were definitely there. Nothing really new but I must say the emotional moments gutted me. The biggest letdown, I guess, in this story was how the author spent like the first 30-40% of the novel with nothing but rehashing the events from the first book. I get the appeal that we have to experience the said events through the present mcs' eyes. But I was like I already knew this what the hell. And can we talk about the sex? Hot! Wish there were more.

3.5 stars

This had everything I want in a book. Age-gap, lots of hurt/comfort, a cute effeminate guy, and a tough veteran with PTSD. And even though I liked it, I sometimes felt as if this book would never end. I’m not even sure why that is.

I’m still going with 3.5 stars because I did like it. But I’m not sure if it had that something special I’m looking for in a book.

I would recommend reading the first book before you start this since the story kind of starts there.

Isaac is on the run with his 4 year old brother Newt. He got roped into stealing a violin from someone by a boyfriend, but it turned out the boyfriend was lying. And that’s how Isaac finds himself on Nolan Grainger’s doorstep, to return the violin.

Maddox came to the animal wildlife sanctuary his brother owns to make amends. He treated his brother terribly in the past and knows he can never really redeem himself. But he can at least try.

When Isaac gets offered a job at the sanctuary he knows he cannot accept it, but he doesn’t really have a choice, since he has to think about his little brother too. And that’s how Isaac finds himself surrounded by kindhearted people. Dallas and his boyfriend Nolan, and Dallas’ brother, Maddox. Although Maddox kind of scares Isaac. Not because he thinks he will harm him, but because Isaac fears for his heart….

As we are used to in Sloane Kennedy’s books both Maddox and Isaac had some issues they needed to overcome. Isaac was used to men using him, since he prostituted himself to get by, and Maddox suffered from PTSD and lots of guilt from his army experiences.
I’m always amazed how SK can balance these hurt/comfort moments with both men without it feeling too much. These guys kind of took turns with the hurt and the comforting and it always feels so natural in SK books.

I do have to admit despite all these ingredients, I’m still a bit hesitant about this series. It has so much potential, but for some reason there seem to be something missing for me.

But I still enjoyed it a lot, so 3.5 stars it is.

(And can I say that even though I loved Newt, I have a 4 year old myself and I cannot imagine my kid saying the things Newt said. I guess my 4 year old is pretty oblivious to his surroundings and rambles a lot about nothing instead of understanding all the grown-up talk Newt seem to understand. But okay, I just went with it here.)

***FANTASTIC ! *** We met Isaac in the last book, as he and his little brother Newt arrived at the Animal Sanctuary to return the violin to Nolan.
Isaac, 21, is slim, goth,

with eyeliner, piercings and dark hair with some blue tint.
He is trying to right a wrong, and then be on his way to stay on the run.
Maddox, 32, ex-military,

has come to see his brother, Dallas, Nolan's partner, and owner of the sanctuary. Maddox is tough, hard as nails, and suffers from PTSD, as he is set on righting a wrong with Dallas.
There was a situation with Dallas's wolf/dog, Loki,

and it's settled at the town meeting.
We see the progression of these complex men, Isaac and Maddox. Maddox is drawn to Isaac, when he's never been with a man, so, GFY, means Maddox just needed the right man to come along and capture his heart. Maddox wants to protect Isaac and Newt. Their sexy times sizzle, and Maddox gets intense first times.

The men talk, each one's secrets are revealed, and a super secret of Isaac's is exposed to Maddox.

We see a medical episode, and Isaac's past brings serious trouble, but no one is alone anymore.
This is another glorious story by Sloane Kennedy, and her fabulous writing. Each tale can stand alone.

Loved this glimpse of opposites, GFY, action, rescue and hot romance.
Simply divine. Highly recommended.
ENJOY !

Well shit, in hindsight I guess reading this book right away after finishing the first was not my brightest idea. But how could I have known that Sloane would rehash the whole story of Maddox and Isaac from the first book only from their POV? Gawd I was bored. So yeah, with a few months apart my goldfish brain and I probably would’ve appreciated that.

Anyway, don’t get me wrong, I loved Maddox and Isaac, and Newt, but this first half of the book was just a waste of my time. And on top of it I got ALL THESE NEVER ENDING INNER MONOLOGUES!! Sweet Baby Jesus. I was not a fan. And also, the story was rather predictable. That’s not in general a bad thing but here it only added to my annoyance and boredom. I almost didn’t finish it.

Not sure I’m coming back to this series, although (ofc!) the blurb of the next book kinda has me intrigued still.

All the effing feels!

“I want to punch Sawyer every time he looks at you. I want to hunt down whoever put those bruises on your throat and the marks on your face. I want to never see the fear I saw in your eyes the day the sheriff showed up here and you thought he was here for you and Newt. I never want to see another tear roll down your cheek for as long as I live, and I want to kill any man who thinks it’s okay to use you and throw you away like you’re nothing. And I want to know how the fuck it’s possible to feel so much in so little time. So tell me, Isaac, what does that make me? Gay? Straight? Bi?”

I loved this one more than the first. This book had two of my favorite things: A damaged hot alpha and a femme guy who is independent but can't stay away from the man he should run from.

Isaac has had a hard life and only wants to protect his brother. But he also wanted to do the right thing by making amends with Nolan.

Maddox broke my heart as he tried to repair his relationship with his brother while dealing with his own ghosts. But I loved how he didn't really question his attraction to Isaac and didn't try to make Isaac into something he wasn't even when he got a "lacy" surprise...

Holy hotness! 🔥

I'm definitely going to read the next one after a small break because, man...I can only take so much of downtrodden characters at a time.

True to this author : she knows how to write about characters that are so endearing, despite their flaws and their traumas. She’s very prolific and her writing works very well with me. I guess it’s because there is always a lot of emotions pouring through it.

This is the second instalment of the Pelican Bay series. Not really a standalone imo. The previous MCs and all the circumstances that leads toward Isaac and Maddox’s story are very present. A touch too much for me as the first 20% is a rehash of the ending of the first book, ie the arrival of Isaac and Newt, his little brother, in the animal sanctuary owned by Dallas, Maddox’s brother. Isaac and Newt are on their way to New York but finally stay a little bit longer than anticipated in Pelican Bay.

Isaac and Maddox are total opposite and their encounters are quite rocky. But they can’t help gravitate around each other. And the tension between them is quite delicious : from cold to hot until they give in. The ending was quite rushed and a bit unrealistic, but I didn’t care : I wanted a nice HEA and I got it.
And they are surrounded by great secondary characters : Newt, the little boy so loved by Isaac but in need of a family, Dallas and Nolan, still so much in love, and so many others like the new sexy sheriff or Sawyer, the laid-back veterinarian, or Jett, the wounded soldier. This will make for quite a good series.

And for the readers who like that : make-up and manties !

But as much as I always enjoy Sloane Kennedy’s books, I didn’t click with this one as much as with others. Nothing in particular, I liked it but didn’t loved it. But still, I read it in one day.

An Off-Balanced Read....

The first third of this book was a mirror of book one, just told from Maddox and Isaac’s points of view. While I suppose this is a good feature for a standalone novel, I read this as a sequel and found myself bored and annoyed by the different POV retelling of a just I had just finished reading. I was soooo ready to put this book aside because I was getting none of the feels of the first (which I loved).

But then, things started to pick up as Isaac and Maddox’s storyline diverged from that of Dallas and Nolan’s. Was it enough to get the story moving again? Yes. But now you’ve made a cranky reader out of me, a less forgiving one.

It’s true, I ended up liking the last third much more, and I even came to care for the MCs—Maddox in particular. The tension came and went, but it was good. Maddox has never really been with a guy before, but he wants Isaac. He gets Isaac. Isaac is hiding his past and running from it. He feels too safe with Maddox. There is a huge push and pull between them that works for the most part.

The sex is hot....manties level hot! And there is an HEA...a solid one. SPOILER AHEAD....I just wish that Kennedy would have written up the proposal scene for us instead of telling us about it.

Would I read the next one? I rushed to read this one after I finished book one and I was disappointed. I might let this all settle for a while before I revisit this northern corner of Minnesota again.

Another superb story from Sloane

I don't care what she writes about, Sloane Kennedy just meets my book reading desires easily each time.

Her invariably flawed men always have some past trauma which defines their character and they invariably meet someone with the perfect set of personality traits to help them move on.

Her men are also never cured by magic dick either. If they've suffered trauma, then they continue to need to deal with it either through therapy or physical actions and they remain affected by it.

The second in her Pelican Bay series is a real beauty, dealing as it does with an ex military Lieutenant dealing with PTSD and a young man who's had more to deal with in caring for his brother than anyone should have to.

But together, they provided the strength and the structure to allow their family to start healing. I loved Isaac and Maddox and little Newt was cute without being overbearing in his abilities and he very much acted his age.

Sex is hot but there's a really lovely slow burn frenemies vibe for a long time before the two finally get down to things and it worked well.

Maddox's sexuality, or lack of any overwhelming interest until Isaac, is handled well without hitting the reader over the head with it and it felt believable.

There's an element of suspend belief towards the end but I really didn't care and I adore the cover!

I loved this, Isaac, Mad & Newt - this book had me absolutely consumed and I spent the day thinking about this little family. Isaac’s love for his little brother Newt was beautiful, he was protective, kind and genuine. He taught Newt little life lessons and brought him up to be a caring kid. So in steps Maddox, PTSD and barely managing the reconnection with his brother, finding out he’s attracted to a lithe gay goth boy. Mad figured he wasn’t attracted to anyone but out of the blue comes Isaac. Not sure who he loved more, Issac or Newt but I’ll say this, the three of them and their extended family made this little group perfect. I adore this series... just beautiful ❤️

Liked this one even more than Locked In Silence...I'm an absolute sucker for stories with kids, animals, big buff ex military men with PTSD who are not afraid to show their gay side [even when they didn't know they had one, go Maddox!!] and young, frightened mantie wearing femme guys who love their brothers to bits and will do everything they can to protect them!! Another reason I liked this one so much was that there was hardly any sex...I know, don't faint you guys 😊...well, for a Sloane Kennedy story anyhoo 😉, it was plot-line and character driven, and it was bloody wonderful!!

 photo rainbowlovedogtags_zpsa7ab0876.jpg

All the ends were brought together, and Maddox and Isaac were just...sighs. Lovely to catch up with Dallas and Nolan and their wildlife sanctuary, great that Dallas and Maddox talked out their problems and were happy just being brothers in the end. The new sheriff Cam, and Jimmy Cornell's little brother Ford are up next. When is something going to be done about that complete tool Jimmy Cornell eh??

Of course, the real star of the story was Newt...closely followed by his very close friend and protector Loki.

I wish I could have given this book more stars but I just didn't feel it. Neither Maddox or Isaac I really cared for, both holding out secrets till the bitter end and Isaac would rather prostitute himself than except money from Maddox 🤨🤔 The only reason I finished was because I adored Newt, he made the book for me!!!!!

Loving the family dynamic that is growing in this series. Kennedy gives such good hurt/comfort reads and this one is no exception.

Dallas and Nolan are still my favourites, though lil' Newt is in a league of his own. That kid is just too cute.

A few thoughts:

I'm used to Sloane penning a book with amazing characters and great plots. This is true here. What I think, though, is the writing is maturing very, very nicely. It was always great, and now it is outstanding. The sex scenes (in particular) are not formulaic and feel authentic to the characters. The standard formula (hand jobs >> blow jobs >>> anal) gets thrown out the window thank goodness because I am getting bored of it. The sexual tension was there and the encounters were not only sexy but fed your understanding of the characters.

Having the drama be "hit you over the head" is also gone - and the plot tension flows along w/o ever being pushed. Of course it's a romance so you know at some point the past always catches up with the people. BUT it didn't feel contrived.

One thing I am always amazed of is how Sloane interjects this feeling of family in all the books. They all contain, but not in a stereotypical way, what makes a family. I think that's why they tug so hard at your heartstrings - because knowing someone has "got our back" and cares about us - and is willing to stand behind us - is something everyone desires. Even the most loner out of all of us wants that. It is delivered in spades here.

Cannot wait for the Cam/Ford story - this is nearly the only author who I have read EVERY single one of his/her books - I just never miss any if I can help it. Bravo!

4.5 stars rounded down because still no 1/2 stars here on GR and while I liked the story a bit better than the first one the audio wasn't working an better for me this time around than it did for the first story and again hopefully I'll get a chance to right a better review one day soonish!

Update: January, 2020 - basically the same update as I noted for the first book, while I enjoyed the story a lot, I think this one is actually my favorite. I'm still not overly enchanted with the narration but it's not what I would consider to be 'bad' either. The voices just don't quite work for me...so it's all about the personal preference and nothing more. Still a solid and enjoyable story from my perspective.

4.5 stars.

“I learned that silence doesn’t mean a person’s got nothing to say. Just means sometimes you have to listen harder to what they aren’t saying.”

This book.

You guys. Sanctuary Found is one of my favorite Sloane Kennedy's book to date. They're usually a hit or a miss for me but I actually really loved this one. Oh and I actually haven't read book 1 and I wasn't lost at all. So this can easily be read as a standalone.

Maddox, Isaac and especially Newton stole a piece of my heart. There was enemies to lovers, military men, age gap, and a cute kid in this book. There was everything I wanted in a story and I was in heaven!

I’d thought I’d needed a label for what Maddox was, but gay, straight, or bi, I just didn’t care anymore. What he was, was mine.

When Isaac and Mad finally come together, it's like BOOM. It was sizzling hot.

I'm going to have to go back and read the first book because, I need to see what happens to Maddox's brother and I'm definitely hoping for more books in this series. Sloane is fast becoming a one-click author for me.

“But you’re the only person I’ve never wanted to stop kissing. You’re the only one who keeps me awake at night as I imagine what it would be like to be inside you. You. Not Isaac the man or Isaac with the makeup or Isaac, the guy who wears women’s underwear. Just you.”

life literally is not complete without finding someone who fully accepts, cherishes, and loves every part of you

it doesn't even have to be with a romantic partner.

buuuuuut obviously in this case, it is. i fucking loved this book. romance and erotica can be really tricky for me. it's often times hard to find that perfect balance of sexy, sweet, and depth of relationship building. and while for me, the first book in this series didn't have that, i was pleasantly surprised to find that this book.

the characters were really sweet, and had a little more depth than the previous books'. upon meeting maddox and isaac in the first book i knew there was going to be something sweet there. maddox had previous trauma from his time in the military. and isaac was running from his past. together they were able to help each other through it. and not just the "love conquers all" type shit you see in all romance novels.

but like i mentioned previously, the icing on the cake for me was really how deeply and innately these characters knew each other. i don't want to spoil anything but isaac is kind of non traditional. he wears makeup, he wears women's clothing, but he's firmly male. and maddox never questioned it. never made isaac feel bad. embraced him, loved him, DIDN'T FETISHIZE HIM. so. here. for. it.

ALSO NEWT WAS CUTE AF AND A LOVELY ADDITION.

if you're looking for something new or want a nice emotional MM to dip your toes in the water of MM with, give this a go.

Maddox and Isaac intrigued me so much in the previous book that I decided to read their story right away. And now I have mixed feelings.

On the one hand, it confirmed my belief that Maddox and Isaac are very interesting characters, and together they make an amazing couple. On the other hand, something was missing here. And it is definitely not a good idea to read the second book right after the first. Mostly because the second book does not start where the previous one ended. It starts earlier, with Maddox and Isaac meeting the first time. The problem is that we have already seen this scene from Nolan and Dallas POV before. Now we are following the closing events of the first book, but from the point of view of Maddox and Isaac. So a complete repetition of what we already know for about the first third of the book.

But also, as I said, Maddox and Isaac are fascinating characters. They are complex and multi-dimensional. On top of that, I really liked Isaac’s little brother, and that is really something! I usually hate children in books. This author can write good characters without a doubt. Probably if the next book had been about Jax, I would have read it as well as soon as I finished the second one. He already seems intriguing to me.

And probably one day I will read another book in this series, because the story of Ford and the sheriff can also be interesting. Although I hope the Jax story will come out soon. I'm not sure if I will remember this story for a long time, but who knows. These characters are so interesting that it is possible.

Well. This is Sloane Kennedy so of course I loved it.

I was very intrigued with Isaac and Maddox in book 1 and they delivered...

This story was beautiful. We reconnect with Nolan and Dallas and we find what I love with SK's books:
A family built out of men who were broken, lonely and so lost and they find each other with love and acceptance.
Very cheesy said like that but yeah... This author can write and her words and men always work on me!

description

So. Isaac. 21 in charge of his little brother, Newt, 4.
He's basically on the run and find himself stuck in the sanctuary held by Dallas & Nolan.
He was NOT helpless. He was strong and very mature. Very stubborn too. He didn't have it easy until now but that's all going to change...

Maddox. 32. Dallas's brother is a military. He left it after a terrible incident happened that, of course, caused severe PTSD. He want to try and rebuild a relationship with his brother that he himself broke several years ago.
I honestly thought I would feel more for Isaac story than Maddox but he just broke my heart. His emotions were so intense. The guilt he feels...

Still a winner for me. I have to say, I am NOT a children person and she's one of the few that can make me love them and not be annoyed by them. Just for that. Thumbs up!
