Retired Navy SEAL Oswald “Oz” Morgon assembled an elite team of men with skills far surpassing those of ordinary bodyguards. To save and protect is a creed that goes beyond simply guarding their wards—it’s a way of life. And these guys are his heart and soul, his brothers…and the family he’ll never have. Now, his next call is to find the one woman who always had a grip on his heart. Eighteen years ago, he walked away from her. But she’s thrown back into his arms—and under his protection.
As a JAG Corps Officer, Rose Kilbourn never expected to be kidnapped for doing her job. And there’s only one man who can save her. Back in the day, she believed Oz was the man for her. Then he vanished, leaving her with a secret she can’t confide to another soul on Earth.
If Oz had chosen a different path, he might have Rose now. But a man who’s lied, cheated and killed to save those he guards doesn’t deserve the sweetness of a woman like Rose. Still, he can’t help but steal moments while he can, and Rose can’t bring herself to walk away from the happily ever after she always wanted. Now she must decide whether or not to share her secret before it’s too late. But she doesn’t want to lose the man she loves, the man who must protect her or die trying.
I grabbed this off Booksprouts as soon as I realized I was taking part in the Book Blitz hosted by Xpresso Tours. I had zero expectations because I’d never read this author before. After I finished, I was so super stoked. The writing is really good! It was a short(ish) so I was able to read it in just one sitting. The characters had a superb connection and chemistry that just leaped off the story and the plot was intense and captivating! I am very excited to move forward with not only this series, but maybe get some of her books from her back-list read really soon!
Rose Kilbourne and Oswald ‘Oz’ Morgon didn’t part well close to 20 years ago. Neither was far from the others thoughts in all those years but Oz was certain Rose wouldn’t fit in his life and Rose was sure she wanted him more than he wanted her. In the interim Oz started The Guard to help those globally that had no one else while Rose became a JAG lawyer.
Rose is certain her latest client is innocent but things do look bleak for him. Clearing her head after hours of research, Rose is snatched off the streets of DC and transported to the coast of the Carolina’s where she was to be crated to board a ship for parts unknown. Thankfully, Rose’s dad, Oz’s former CO called and asked Oz for help.
Dropping everything and getting on it immediately, Oz was able to rescue Rose in the nick of time but for some reason they’re unable to shake her kidnappers. Meanwhile Oz also has to deal with one of his employees possibly becoming a traitor. Delving into the case while reconnecting and trading secrets Rose and Oz find disturbing similarities.
Though this foundation tale isn’t really new for the genre, the characters and tale itself are definitely worthwhile, Rating: 4stars
I received a complimentary copy of this book and I also purchased a copy.
This is the first book in a new series. The series revolves around a group of men and women called The Guards. It starts slow as it is laying the foundation for the series. I was a little confused in the beginning and trying to keep it all straight as this is a much different type group of alpha former military type of heroes. How they operate is totally different from anything that I have read before.
Oswald “Oz” Morgon is a former Navy SEAL. He founded The Guards and they work out of a church. Yes, a church. That really threw me. They also call him "Father" as he is the founder. That just took some getting used too. He receives a call from his former CO that he daughter is missing. Rose Kilbourn, is a JAG officer and his one-night stand eighteen years ago. Oz locates Rose before she is loaded onto a ship bound for a life of unknown.
The book does pick up after Oz get the call about Rose. I was then entrenched in the story. Rose has a secret that she wants to tell Oz but doesn't. Oz is keeping secrets as well. His life is far from ordinary and he and his group live and operate in the shadows.
I loved getting a glimpse into the characters' mind to see what they were going through in the different scenes. Having a dual POV format really helps me to connect to the characters.
If you love a second chance romance between an alpha ex-military male protagonist and a strong female, then you may want to give this a try. This author writes spicy stories so I can only recommend this to someone over the age of 18 as it may offend some.
I really liked Rose and Oz’s second chance! Military romance is one of my jams and this author knows how to write compelling alpha male leads and the strong, capable women who they love. Oz and Rose’s story started many years ago but flared and flamed before it even had a chance to start. When danger brought them back together, all the cards were eventually laid bare, giving them an opportunity to get it right…
This read had everything I expected it would – great storytelling, interesting characters and steam galore. So why the middlin’ rating? Well, for me, how the group addressed Oz, how they dealt with strife within their ranks, just the verbiage used, was off-putting. A personal thing, definitely not a reflection on the overall story and characters, probably something you may not even notice. For me, though, it colored what was an otherwise suspense and love-filled read…
Saying that, this author always entices me with eye-popping covers with stories that back them up every time. I’ll be looking for more – including more these off-the-books, alpha heroes…
*I happily reviewed this story *Thank you to Booksprout
Oz Morgon and Rose Kilbourn- star crossed lovers from 18 years ago whose love never diminished and they never forgot each other. She ended up being pregnant from the encounter but realized he did not want a family so she kept it a secret. Rose is a JAG Officer now who is kidnapped and Oz is sent to rescue her. This book keeps you on the edge of your seat - there are so many twists and turns and secrets. One rush after another. It has sizzling emotional sex, major government secrets, arms dealing and human trafficking - all in one book. There are strong characters that make the book raw and readable. It is a must read with a kick ass female and a great passionate past lover. At the end a great lead into the next book in the series - you want it NOW! I received an ARC of this book from Booksprout and I voluntarily chose to review.
Get ready for an action-packed, glued to your seat, romantic suspense that will blow your mind! Em Petrova’s first book in her brand new The Guard series is all this and so much more. His to Shelter introduces the men and women of an elite group of seasoned operatives who have seen, and in some cases, done it all. Skills that are definitely off the charts lethal are a must when being considered for recruitment into Oswald “Oz” Morgon’s congregation, and knowing that the consequences of betrayal will be fatal; but all of Oz’s “parishioners” are more than willing to heed the code and risk life and limb for not only each other, but their fellow man.
His to Shelter starts off as it intends to continue, and that’s explosive! From the very first page readers are swept into this secretive world and quickly realise the ramifications if Oz’s unique collective were discovered by the outside world. Called upon when needed, these extraordinary men and women, accept that their lives will be solitary, and no one can be exposed to their world without risk of harm or danger. But what happens when history walks back into your life and the “one that got away” is very much available and in need of your special talents?
Combustible chemistry can’t be denied, and when things go pear shaped, Oz will be forced to re-evaluate his directive and all that he’s built in the years of separation from the one woman who owns his soul. Ms Petrova has penned strong, dynamic characters and a storyline and plot that are gripping, fast-paced and heartfelt. I was thoroughly engrossed in this book from start to finish and can’t wait to see who’s next to surrender to temptation and risk their heart, and their life, on the road to happiness.
This exciting story grabbed me right from the start! I loved the intensity that Oz wears like a cloak, how he runs his organization with religious fervor, how he will stop at nothing to complete his mission. Rose was a wonderful heroine in her own right, stronger than anyone expected and more capable than any man could hope for.
The writing was perfectly balanced between heart-stopping action sequences and equally heart-stopping romantic scenes. I appreciated that Oz demonstrated appropriate remorse for his earlier decisions, yet I completely understood why Rose let him off the hook for it all, knowing what he's been able to accomplish instead. The emotional depth of both characters shone through in every passage, making it easy to fall in love with both Oz and Rose and cheer for their triumphant HEA.
As the first in a new series, we're introduced to several of Oz's colleagues, and the epilogue seamlessly hands the story line off to the next one in line. I've enjoyed this author's previous military hero series, and this one is shaping up to be the best one yet. We've got futuristic high-tech goodies, a wide array of both male and female operatives, a code of honor that itself is worth swooning for, and a mission focus that opens the door to many more thrilling adventures. I'm looking forward to reading each and every one. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
“His To Shelter” is a raging thunderstorm of emotions with hair-raising suspense, edge-of-your-seat action and fiery, passionate romance that keeps you turning pages until the happy forever. Character interaction is superb and vivid scene descriptions are astounding.
Eighteen years ago Oswald (Oz) Morgan, now a retired Navy Seal, had one night of passion with eighteen-year-old Rose Kilbourn, now a JAG Corps Officer. Commitment was not in his plans, so he bid her goodbye. Oz started an elite bodyguard team to protect and save wards assigned to the team. These special men and women are a force. They are knights and guardian defenders of the ones who need saving when no one else can do the job. When Oz receives a call from Rose’s dad that someone has kidnapped her his sleeping heart awakens. Rose’s social life is quiet and her work in JAG leaves no time for dating. Together they face many hurdles before reaching their happy forever.
Outstanding well-written read with praise worthy characters. Rose is feisty, intelligent and full of surprises. Oz is a tough alpha male and his protective nature shines. I loved the concept of the team, and the romance is believable. Backstories give the reader insight into the character’s personas. Relished this read and I look forward to the next team story. (This is a Kindle Unlimited review.)
I really enjoyed reading His To Shelter . Ozwald (OZ)Morgon has an Elite team of people with the best skills imaginable . He has rules they all live by especially save and protect . They are definitely the best of the best . He receives a call from General Kilbourne the father of the only woman he ever cared for and walked away from after one amazing night eighteen years ago , Rose Kilbourne . Rose is a JAG Corps Officer and has been taken . The General knows Oz and his people can find her . OZ and his man Gilly get the intell they need to find and rescue Rose before she is moved onto a ship . Unfortunately Gilly is killed during the rescue . Rose never dreamed she would see or hear from the man that broke her heart eighteen years ago not to mention be rescued by him . OZ will do everything he can to keep Rose safe while they find who is behind her Abduction then he will let her go . Only it will not be that easy . They both have secrets and Roses will soon put them all in a dangerous situation . OZ has kept an eye on Rose from time to time but he is not sure how he missed this secret and it will change all their lives . This is a Sensational and intriguing suspense romance with great characters and we'll written . I highly recommend taking the time to read .

I loved this book!! I could not put it down. It was full of action and drama and steamy hot sexiness. Em has done it again. She absolutely knows how to put out an entertaining story that you can’t put down. I absolutely can’t wait for the next one to come out. I think Lars story is going to be really good.
This is book one in the new The Guard series. It’s Oz, the creator of The Guard and Rose’s story. Oz is a retired Navy SEAL who has gathered the best of the best to create what he calls The Guard. They do all the things that the average bodyguard can’t do. These men and women are the only family Oz believes he’ll ever have. Eighteen years ago, he walked away from Rose, the one and only woman to own his heart.
Rose is a JAG officer and is kidnapped after she dug around into something that someone would rather keep buried. Her father contacts Oz to find her and bring her home. Seeing her brings back all those feelings he thought he pushed away. As he’s trying to protect her, they get involved again. Can Oz walk away from her again? Will Rose’s secret break them apart?

Retired Navy Seal Oz left Rose eighteen years ago and disappeared into the underground world of making the world a better place by any means necessary when he started The Church which recruits only the best. Rose loved Oz but when he left he told her he never wanted to marry or have a family so when she finds out she is pregnant after he left she stepped up and raised her twin sons herself while going to school and is now a Jag Corps Officer. While working on a big case she uncovers some things she should have left hidden and now she gets kidnapped so Rose's father contacts Oz to get her back not knowing that he is the father of her sons. This is their story eighteen years later when Oz rescues her and in the process attracts some bad guys and just when they think they are clear they find out that the sons that she has kept hidden all these years are the target of the bad guys and also Oz knows nothing about her son or that he is the father. Loved this book which has some hot romance and sweet surprises.

The blurb for this book did not appeal to me – 18 years is a heck of a long time for a second chance romance, which is already not a trope that I usually like. I took a chance and bought the book because I am a tremendous fan of Em Petrova, and have never not enjoyed one of her books.
Oz was a selfish, colossal jerk at age 28. When he finally owns up to that ugly truth nearly 2 decades later, Rose is incredibly forgiving. There is deep meaning in the secret organization he founded being in some ways run as the Church it is called. Oz is the Father of his Church, and in taking on that vocation for himself he made a conscious choice to deny himself a wife and children. Yet he ends up needing a massive amount of forgiveness and redemption from several key people in his life.
Rose is a brilliant lawyer in the Navy JAG corps, and a loving single mother to her twin boys. She is no wilting violet and nobody’s fool. When fate violently throws Oz and Rose together again, their lives will never be the same. The plot is intriguing and intense, fast-paced and action-packed. I’m glad I went ahead and bought the book – and Em Petrova still has a perfect record with me!
First off I enjoyed the concept of The Guarda and Church but I wished we had more of a backstory of who is who in the Guard. We are given a few names Oz who is the male lead and the man who started the Guard. Roman his Deacon or second in command, Lars, North, Madeleine, Frisco, Gilly and Archer. The Guard is a group of retired military/bodyguards/full tactical agents serving the greater good at all costs. Second this is a second chance Romance Oz male lead and Rose the female lead had one steamy night eighteen years ago but they both fell in love, he walked away be was being a Navy SEALs. Rose was young and still had her life ahead of her. Now eighteen years later, Rose needs to be rescued and Oz and his team of clergyman will be the one to save her. The author has 2 different backstories happening at once. I kinda of wished Lars story was pushed to the side or was in the epilogue. The two different missions at the same time were confusing at least for me. Third I enjoyed the characters and the main storyline that I can't wait to read the next story in the series. Happy Reading!!
Oswald Morgan (AKA Oz) ran a protection company called The Guard. They protected those who had no other options and was not affiliated with any government agencies such as CIA or FBI. He and his operatives had several locations where they could hide people away, all were microchipped to enable the members to know if one of their own needed assistance. Oz was called by his former commanding officer from his Navy days to say his daughter was abducted. Oz knew the daughter in question, Rose, who he had a brief affair with when she was eighteen to his twenty-eight. She was currently a JAG officer who was defending a Navy pilot accused of treason for selling weapons. What she discovered, got her kidnapped...so Oz and team went after her...finding her before she would have been put on boat leaving the country...what he didn't know was that their brief dalliance led to twin boys that he never knew about...but you will need to read this tale to see what happens...I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is a wonderful book that is a little different to Em's normal work I am not sure what the difference is but it just has a different feel to it Believe me this isn't said in a disparaging way the book is still full of drama and suspense it is more just an observation.
Eighteen years earlier Oswald (Oz) Morgon walked away from the one woman he could ever love He knew that his career as a navy Seal meant that he could never be the man that she needed so he felt it was best for her He never married anyone in fact all the women in his life after that never matched up to her. Rose Kilbourn is JAG officer whose latest case leads to her been kidnapped and she is stunned when a man from her past is the one to rescue her Years earlier she had fallen for her father protegee in fact he was her first and she has never allowed another man into her heart What she doesn't know is that now Oz is the leader of a secret group a group that keeps people safe when no one else can What he doesn't know is that she has a secret all of her own What will happen wen that secret is revealed.
All I can say is WOW!!! The first book of author Em Petrova's The Guard series proved to be an epic read! I devoured this book in a single sitting. The book contained everything that I require in a phenomenal read- vivid detail, sizzling suspence, never ending drama, and romantic longing and angst. The chemistry between Oz and Rose was certifiably palpable! Even the cast of secondary characters was so well developed. All have a mysterious and rich background. I can't wait for each man to receive their own book so that we, the reader, can get to know each of them better.
Currently we live in a time where a virus is running rampant throughout the world, bringing much uncertainty to all. One thing that I know with 1,0000% certainty is that this series is an absolute MUST-READ!!! 1-click buy this book today and you will be magically transported away from your current reality into a world of intrigue and romance. You will NOT be sorry that you did!
This is a new series from Em Petrova and it starts off with a bang. It's short, which I love; but action-packed and fast-paced. It has the passion and steam you expect but the story is about so much more as well. It's eighteen years that have passed since Oz and Rose have seen each other and there are so many secrets in between that the tension is high. I love that there is time in between that has passed and they are different people. They have both grown and they have learn about each other and see each other with fresh new eyes. There's danger and mystery and suspense but their love and chemistry can't be denied. I just would have loved to see the conversation with Rose's dad and Oz. I am loving how this has started and I can't wait to read the other books coming in this series.

I have such high respect for Rose in this book. She is the perfect mix of strong and vulnerable. There are times in this book that she should/could have wilted but she didn't. She stayed strong even though she was scared and fought. Not only for herself but for her sons also. I loved that she was portrayed as smart also, that she can be a real asset.
Oz was a character that right at the beginning, I really didn't care for. He was so cold and argumentative with his team that I just wondering if I would be able to root for this man. The part that made me think this was the flashback to his one night with Rose years ago and how cold he was to her after. However, I am very glad that I kept reading because I not only grew to like this man, but think him book boyfriend worthy. I know that I just need to trust this author, she won't steer me wrong.
Looking for an action packed, fast moving suspense filled read with lots of steamy sex scenes, this may be the book your looking for. A secret group called the Guard ran by Oswald Morgon and a General's daughter, Rose Kilbourn are the main characters, and they have a sexual chemistry as a couple of dynamite. They cannot be around each other without something happening. You will set on the edge of your chair as the Guard attempts to solve each new case that comes their way. Treason, kidnapping, illegal arms trade in the military, human slave trade, and hit men. Rose was kidnapped and the General called Oz as an old friend to rescue her. She was the girl he never forgot even after eighteen years. Emotions ran high throughout the entire story, as Oz tried to keep Rose safe after her rescue.

Wow, what a fantastic start to a new series. Ms Petrova has done it again, she never disappoints her readers. Rose had a huge crush on Oz when she was just 18 years old and vice verse. They had one incredible night together and then he crushed her heart by saying “ he didn’t want a wife or children ....ever and if something came of their interlude he expected her to take care of it. Then he left. Now, 18 years later, her father contacts him to rescue Rose who was kidnapped. Oz has secrets, but so does Rose..... two actually. A suspenseful and captivating storyline and wonderful characters. It captures your heart from beginning to end. An action packed and fast paced read that has kidnapping, drama, suspense, sizzling chemistry and a love story that never died.

This is book one in The Guard Series. Oz is a retired Navy Seal who has created a team of former military men turned bodyguards. These men are not only his coworkers but his family, they are a tight knit group. Oz receives a call that someone from his past, eighteen years to be exact, needs his help. Rose, she is a JAG Corps officer, has been kidnapped. Of course, the only man that she believes can help her is Oz. Wow, what a story! This book truly has it all and it's all wrapped up with a perfect read bow! If you have a soft spot for former military men, strong women and amazing storylines with a roller coaster of emotions to be experienced, this is your next series. I cannot wait to read more, enjoy!

Rose and Oz had a secret romance when she was young. But he had plans and they didn't include a woman at home or children so he ended things between them. However it wasn't quick enough because Rose was pregnant when he left. Now years later she is working on a case that has gotten her into some trouble. When she goes out for a jog men a van kidnap her. Oz gets a call from her father asking for help. Will Oz be able to get to her in time? What will he do when he learns of the boys? Is this their second chance to be together?
This is a great story once I started it I couldn't put it down. The chemistry between them is blazing hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

I was grabbed from the start and did a single sitting, cover to cover read. There was lots of action and intrigue. Rose, a Jag Officer, researched a case a little too deep, alerted an international ring and got kidnapped for her trouble. Oz , former Seal and leader of a covert group to defend our country, unidentifiable and works way outside the military protocols. He is called by Rose’s father the general and his former CO, to find and rescue his daughter. Flames from many years is rekindled and has him questioning his life plan. She has a big secret. I enjoyed reading this book and was disappointed when it ended... but it’s a series with more to come! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book
Second chances do not get any better than this. Well written, with brilliantly charismatic and enticing characters, this book is another Em Petrova success. The setting, military backdrop, and the interplay between leads and support, make the book easy to read. The enticement of the story begins from the first page. Although the blurb for the book gives and outline of the story it reveals non of the detail that will bring smiles and tears to your reading experience.
A lovely way to escape from real life. I can happily recommend this book and provide four stars to show just how good the book is.

Retired Navy SEAL Oswald “Oz” Morgon put together a team of men for his bodyguarding business. Now there’s only one thing missing in his life. He walked away from a woman 18 years ago, and he is ready to get her back in his life.
Because his team is the absolute best at what they do, General Kilbourne contacts Oz to find and rescue his daughter, Rose Kilbourne, the JAG Corps Officer he had fallen in love with so longer ago. They get the information they need, but one of Oz’s men is killed in the rescue effort. Unfortunately, Rose is keeping secrets which put everyone in danger when they start to track down who is responsible. If they come through this alive, will guilt and secrets keep them apart? Or can they be honest about their feelings and look for a second chance for love?
Oz Morgon is a retired Navy Seal that started his own business using elite people with serious skills. He considers them his family since he left the only woman that could have been his 18 years ago. He and his teams do more than just bodyguard duty. Each person brings something to the family. Rose is a Jag Corps officer and is investigating her latest case and is kidnapped. She has never forgotten Oz and still loves him. The two never expect to see each other again. Oz receives a call from a former general about his daughter being kidnapped and asks for Oz's help. Oz feels sick to his stomach and is determined to bring Rose home safely. An emotional and intense story.

Rose uncovers information while investigating a case, and is kidnapped shortly thereafter. Her father contacts Oz to bring her home safe. They have a past together, one that they both think is ancient history - he doesn't know about her... their sons. But together again for the first time in 18 years, they explode into each other. The action/suspense in this story begins right away, and never lets up. Rose is just wonderful. She has a terrific high-powered career, and has raised incredible twin boys alone. I wanted to not like Oz so much, because of his attitude with her years ago. But he grew on me anyway. This was a great book to read, and a wonderful opener to this new series.

This is an amazing story. I couldn't put it down. I love that Oz and Rose got a second chance. I couldn't wait to see what happened next for the. I was caught up in the action from the first page. I can't wait to read more from this series.
Oz has come up with an organization that will do what needs to be done to protect the world. Rose is from his past. When he is called to find her after she is kidnapped, he does everything he can to keep her safe. He thought he wasn't meant to have a family but now he is thinking differently. Rose is surprised to see Oz again but knows that she is safe. She has a secret from him that she knows that she needs to tell. Will they figure out who is after her?

His to Shelter is the first book in what appears to be a fantastic series. Oz is the head of a covert organization, known as The Guard, whose members operate outside of normal rules to protect their charge, each other and their country. With access to the best in technology and no limit on funds, they travel the globe using their skills to take care of what others can't. When Oz gets the call to protect the one woman he could never forget, he's almost too late. Rose also has a secret of her own and she is definitely no shrinking violet when faced with adversity. This book has plenty of action, intrigue and romance. It also introduces great secondary characters for future books.
